Continuing from last thread, what's a good alternative for a 41mm perpetual. Want something with a big face that's not ostentatious and could be for everyday use. Already own a Datejust, so would getting a Perpetual be redundant?
>>
>>17013318
What size DJ? An OP would probably be very redundant with a DJ unless there are some days where you don't want to know what day it is.

That's the problem with really versatile watches. They end up being the daily go-to and everything else ends up sitting in the drawer. Since a DJ is so versatile, to avoid redundancy, I would pick something that's completely different like a full-on sports watch, a luxury sports watch, or a complicated dressy piece.

Looking for something similar to this. It's a Gucci Pantheon automatic Swiss-made and my first watch purchase when I was young and didn't know Gucci watches were shit. I really liked the design of it though, I've misplaced it somewhere and I have the money to get something a bit better. Any suggestions for a similar style?

>>
>>17013351
The Zenith Defy has a similar shape, as does the older, discontinued IWC Ingenieur 3239.
Depending on your spending level, the Bvlgari Octo Finissimo takes that angular look and ramps it up to 10.

Believe it or not I managed to knocked someone up! I've always worn either Seikos SKX or Gshocks all my life but now I kinda want something that I can pass onto my son on my deathbed. Something that he can use to sell/barter to get him out of a sticky situation. But also something that I can wear everyday or at least on days I am not working.

I am thinking either Railmaster or Pelagos FXD, I know I want something without a date with a strap.

Neither the OP41 or the DJ41 are particularly rare watches. Unless you're looking for an extremely unusual dial color or bezel/bracelet configuration, you're going to be waiting a couple of months, tops.

The long-ass waiting lists are for the popular sports models. Rolex makes hundreds of thousands of DJs per year. It's their single best-selling model.
>>
>>17013374
Don't take this the wrong way, but if you leave your son anything, it should be a Rolex or a Patek. Omegas aren't really heirloom quality and Tudors especially aren't.
>>
>>17013370
Not OP but I think the Gucci one looks better than that. Cleaner face.

To be fair, it's a pretty clean looking watch, especially for Gucci.
>>
>>17013381
Anon believe me I agree 100% but right now Rolex as a brand is incredibly overinflated. If I can get a 114060 at MSRP I'd jump on it, but right now only brands like Tudor/Omega/Tags can be had for MSRP.
>>
>>17013388
Sure. There are minimalist watches that are way worse. Personally, I would have either gone no-date or put the name at 9 and the date at 3 so the dial has some symmetry.
>>
>>17013374
>Something that he can use to sell/barter to get him out of a sticky situation.
You're retarded dude. Nothing gets you out of a sticky situation because you can't fucking tell a fake from a real watch in a Vietnamese snake pit, and in every other situation, you just give people actual money.
>>
>>17013393
Yeah, but your kid isn't going to be born for a while yet and you'll have plenty of time for him to get old enough for you to pass something onto him.
Go to the AD and put yourself on the list for something.
>>
>>17013395
>fake from a real watch in a Vietnamese snake pit, and in every other situation, you just give people actual money.
The fuck are you going on about? If my first born is stupid enough to get his ass captured in some Deer Hunter like Vietnamese prison then chances are he's fucked and I can't help him. I'm talking about him falling on hard times and needing money for food/rent/car repairs.
>>
>>17013396
Thanks anon, I think I might just do that. I was honestly close to buying the Omega/Tudor since you can basically buy it online, but now I think if I were to spend money might as well spend a bit more and make it a Rolex.
>>
Meh, I'll just try to find my Gucci automatic watch than get a Perpetual. It's served me well even if it's probably disrespected by watch elitists.

Hello /fa/ im looking to buy a watch:
>300-500€
>Automatic and open heart
>5 atm water resistance
>42-44 mm

I have found Ingersoll The Jazz (pic rel) that fits the requirements but i don't know much about the brand. Shoud I get that one or do you have any recomendatios?
>>

so I am contemplating between these 3, I tend to prefer the SUR309, its basically dark blue\black when not under the sun\light and turn blue when its under light and I kinda prefer it that way desu. it costs 200$ (40$ more than the other two).

Just get the watch you want to wear. Think of it as a gift to yourself to commemorate your son’s birth and nothing more. And over the years invest in real estate or a business, something more practical than a watch if you want something to hand down to your kid. The Railmaster is cool imo.
>>
>>17013974
>The Railmaster is cool imo.
Except, like most Omegas, it's too fucking thick. 12.6mm for a no-date watch with only 150m water resistance is just lazy, especially when a little company like Nomos can make a 200m WR no-date watch that's 9.2mm thick.

What's worse, they fitted it with the inferior 8806 movement instead of the 8912 that you can find in the Seamaster 300. The 8912 has an independently adjustable hour hand, which is one of the best features you can get in a no-date watch, since it turns it into a handy travel watch.

>Rolex or patek
Why is this phrase so common in this thread? The cheapest patek costs double most rolexes, is it because of resale? A base aquanut costs 10x a sub secondhand. They occupy wildly different tiers of watches. Rolex belongs with omega, breitling, iwc, cartier, GO, and entry level jlc.
>>
>>17014209
Those brands are both obscenely expensive and unobtainium to the guys in this thread who harp on about them.
>>
>>17014209
>Why is this phrase so common in this thread?
It's short-hand for either the de facto "best" watch in the entry-level luxury sphere or the "best" watch in the high-end sphere and it covers a really wide range of spending.
It's not meant to be taken literally that someone should buy one of those two watch brands' pieces.

>Rolex belongs with omega, breitling, iwc, cartier, GO, and entry level jlc.
Rolex is the standard, they belong only with themselves. Think about it: when a new Seamaster comes out, the first question is "How does it compare to the Submariner?" but when a new Submariner comes out, the first question is "Is it an improvement over the old Submariner?"

No, not at all.
Wait a year, once the hype subsides. Even at MSRP, the Tudor is expensive. You can get Black Bay GMTs for under 3k USD now. Those things had waiting lists less than two years ago.
>>
>>17014209
>Rolex belongs with omega, breitling, iwc, cartier, GO, and entry level jlc.
That's just price-wise, though.

Rolex, Omega and Breitling certainly occupy the same "Tough watches for tough men" LARP market segment. Cartier unapologetically makes jewelry and doesn't care about Rolex. IWC doesn't know what the fuck it's doing.
GO and JLC don't compete with Rolex either. Their niche seems to be more for people who like the engineering of haute horlogerie but don't care about precious metals.

Of course used. With hype watches like this, the market floods with inventory pretty predictably and you'll always easily be able to find an example that some guy bought because Instagram told him to and realized he didn't actually like the watch so he sells it at a loss.

>Week 1:
It's basically brand new, so I'll ask a couple hundred less than MSRP
>Week 2:
Will listen to all _reasonable_ offers, no lowballers please.
>Week 3:
Willing to trade up for any steel Rolex plus cash
>Week 4:
This is where they start to get desperate and realize they've made a huge mistake when they check eBay and C24 and realize the Japs are selling the same watch in the same condition for half MSRP. The seller lowers his price to the Japanese sale price.

Here's where you wait a week and offer him 10% off what he's asking. He'll say yes every time.

See if he will really tell you what his list looks like and what kind of shipments he expects. When the bb58 hype train got going even that had a waiting list for the bracelet version. Maybe with the economy cooling off things will back off a bit but it seems to be on it's way to being one of the most hyped tudor releases ever. Then again rolex doesn't really limit production on tudor, so there is a good chance demand will slow eventually

>>17014584
>So is solar worth getting over the regular battery version?
>Does the solar battery not eventually need replacing?
Solar batteries do need replacing, but whether or not they die depends on how they are charged. If they are kept at H all the time they will last longer than if you let them drain to almost-empty and recharge back to high.
They are considerably more expensive to replace than a regular battery.

It also depends on how you use the watch. For example, I never use the backlight so I have a G-Shock with a "10 year" battery that's currently on its 14th year of running.

Personally, the increased cost of the solar models doesn't really make it worth it.

Well that depends on what kind of battery is in. Back when mobile phones were new tech their early Li-ion batteries were said to be best kept at 40% charge to last the longest. I'm sure the tech has advanced since then so i doubt that still holds true but still it's not as simple as that.

It's a capacitor, so yes, it does theoretically need replacing eventually. But at the same time solar appeals to me much more than battery, it's technologically quite interesting, and how a solar G-Shock conserves its power is pretty nifty. I've also had an AL-180 for about 10 years now and it's a very basic solar model but it still keeps its charge without any issues.
>>
>>17014671
The rechargeable batteries that solar Casios use are pretty primitive. There's no sophisticated power management beyond going to sleep if it's dark. You need to keep them topped up.

Right? It's only a quartz movement but it's designed after the big clock on the front of the building. Look up Union Terminal it's an icon of art deco design and is one of the last remaining buildings kept in such good condition.

This is /wt/, we're not here to discuss interesting watches, just LARP.
There's a quite a few decent things in that box, a bullhead, a jumbo, a UFO. I've only got one 6139, I can't imagine how much it costs to keep all of those 6138s and 6139s in working order, plus it looks like they've all been reset, which isn't recommended.

Tissot PRX, PR100, Courtier, or generic Powermatic.
But no shut up and spend $550 on a fucking Hamilton.

My Lineage has 2 different power saving modes, first it just stops the seconds hand and turns off the display, and after a day or two it stops the other hands at 12 o'clock as well. It still keeps time internally and as soon as it gets some light the hands will whizz around back to the correct time.
