Serious discussion: Why do Americans dress so badly? Why do grown adults think it's acceptable to wear cargo shorts and flip-flops in public? Why do they care so little about their appearance?
>>
>>16643725
because american men are homophobic and caring about your appearance is considered "gay"

>t. american

>>16643725

>>
>>16643728
Very true. If you dress well in the US people ask "why are you dressed up?" and people tease you
>>
>>16643725
>>16643728
Actually, Americans care far too much about their appearance. As >>16643732 points out, you get singled out by other people for "dressing up." This has combined disastrously with the massive profit margins attainable by fast fashion and simple clothing (t-shirts, athleisure) causing clothing manufacturers to shill dressing down.
Americans were sold the idea everyone's dressing that way in order to capitalize. It became true, and now everyone's too afraid of judgment to break away from the inferior clothing.
Nobody actually likes it, but this is why consumer pressure on markets are so useless in this country. Everyone's so concerned with seeming normal they can't afford (in their minds) to go against the grain.

Indians dress much worse in my experience. Fucking sandals everywhere and obnoxiously branded tshirts/polos. And don't get me started on the muslims who basically just throw a hoodie over their pakistani garb.
>>
>>16643728
Stupid statement, you can still hate fags and dont dress in cargo shorts and flipflops.

Dressing like a redneck is 100 times better than that, and you can still be homophobic or racist clasist by dressing up in a non foggy way: sleazy being an excellent example.
>>

That's just a third world thing. No one can afford nice things and it's too hot anyway

90% of Americans are functionally retarded. Go outside have a conversation with a random dude and they won't know shit other than mainstream media and marvel movies

Disneyland for vacation and never leaving the country....since most Americans don't even have a passport
>>

I live in Maine and my socializing activities (even before 2020) was just going to the Church or the park (next to the Church) or the beach down the road.
In my experience, people dress well. Especially when I go to Church.

So my conclusion is that you just visit shit places, where shit things happen and people who go there are shitty and dress as they are - shitty.
Stop being a degenerate faggot, is my precise point.
>>
Something I find to be true is a lot of people in America don't know where to buy clothes from. I see people wearing shit from Walmart when you can get much nicer clothes for the same price 90% of the time. I think it just stems from a general lack of self awareness or critical thinking. GOD I HATE AMERICA AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH

Liberal culture. Nihilism. "There's no point to anything, maaaan. Beauty, self-presentation, self-expression, taking care of yourself doesn't matter, man, it's worthless!" It's such a depressed, stupid way of thinking. Everything should be pleasant and beautiful. We take care of things better when they look nice, we feel better when things look nice. Mental health issues individually and on a societal level skyrocket when no one cares about their clothing.
>>
>>16643725
I think the Japanese are the most fashionable people in the world but that lead me to think how if they dressed poorly the would be judged poorly in their society. In the US people only care about what they want to do so they dress however they want. You can walk in certain areas of NYC and you see people who like to dress well or are dressed for work and they look great. Then there are people next to them wearing athlete-leisure wear. People just do what they want.

The average American is poorly educated, fat, poor and proud. It's not just fashion, it's all symptoms of a larger problem. They will engage in the most self destructive behavior believing it's their personal choice, despite the fact that all their actions are controlled by profit margins and decades of corporate brain washing. You can't even try to break the cycle in a lot of places, because others won't let them.

I've never seen shit like this on such a mass scale, where large portions of the population literally look down on you for not being a dumb fuck troglodyte. No wonder there is such a cultural divide in the US right now.

Unironically the US would greatly benefit from a massive educational reform and clamping down on corporations being able to fuck the whole country for a few cents gain on their stocks.
>>
>>16644401
>people dressed poorly compared to 90 years ago
Everyone literally dressed the same 90 years ago. There was a socially accepted uniform and everyone wore it, they didn't think about it.
>>
>>16644427
>There was a socially accepted uniform
and t shirt and jeans or cargo shorts are not the ''socially accepted'' uniform now? atleast that one actually looked aesthetically appealing.
>>
>>16644081
Movie extra core. Literally nothing fun or unique about it. Wearing this fit just advertises that you're "sensible" and boring
>>
>>16644446
Most people don't care or think about clothes. They kind of just put on what everyone else around them wears. T-shirts, jeans, cargo shorts are inoffensive, simple, comfortable and practical. When people stopped being so strict about attire, this is what people naturally gravitated towards.

>at least one looked aesthetically appealing
Maybe, though I doubt aesthetics is very high on a priority list for most people. I bet those factory workers wearing a 3 piece suit every day would swap to shorts and t-shirts in a heartbeat.

I doubt it, central heating wasn't really a thing then and it's britain which is generally cold as fuck most of the years, also people in general had different attitudes then.

you saw old man in the 70's and 80's who were young in the 30's pretty much wearing the same outfit as when they were young so that doesn't really add up, people were generally wearing jeans and a t shirt in the 80's too.

But if you went back in time and lifted restrictions, I bet a lot of younger people would change to something more comfortable or different. We don't generally look to old people for fashion trends.

It's just a difference in culture, same reason why europeans might not be as interested in trucks and guns. Fashion as a whole rarely crosses the mind of most american males as a thing they should care about - clothing is more of just a mundane necessity to them, like brushing your teeth or taking a shower. This culture is somewhat changing amongst the zoomers, but unfortunately it manifests in the form of streetwear and sneakerheads. There's also a location aspect to it, what I just said is true for most of rural and suburban america but if you go to NYC or LA there will be a lot of nicely dressed people on the streets (although thats about it)
>>16644186
Regarding exercise specifically, completely untrue. There is a huge gym culture here, but there's just an equal amount of lazy fatasses.
>>
buy-and-discard culture.
Why buy a 50 dollar shirt that might last 5-10 years with proper care when you can get 10 for 50 from target that you can treat as disposables.

>>
>>16643728
It's the opposite - americans are so non-homophobic that they're too quick to view each other as gay because tolerance and inclusivity of something naturally makes people more open to thinking that each other are that thing. They need to be more homophobic.
>>
>>16643725

Europoor here who's been to the USA a couple of times and to several countries in the EU and beyond.

The vast mayority of people in any country dress pretty normal (read: casual) and don't look like they put much effort into it. This means pretty bad by /fa/ standards. You can find cities and places where there is a greater percentage of effay people, but this holds true anyplace. It's all about averages, and the average is pretty low anyway, again, according to /fa/ standards.

USA? No cultural identity and therefore developed taste and sense for aesthetic. Look at Italians, Scandis, French or Japs. And no, I am not speaking about Ahmed and Jamal leaving there dressing like shit.

>>
>>16643725
>Why do Americans dress so badly?
It all started with casual friday.
Things got out of control.
Then gen Xers and millennials started wearing pajamas in public
Cargo shorts happened.
Then you have the vast majority of poor fat plebs buying cheep shit at walmart, usually involving novelty T-shirts, sports team regalia, and NASCAR shit.
Rednecks having camo on the brain.
Parents not teaching their children how to dress properly because they themselves were never taught the basics.
We may never recover.

>>16643741
You can dress casually and not look like shit. The problem is that Americans can't even do that. They just have no taste or sense of aesthetics, and as a few anons have pointed out, having taste and a sense of aesthetics makes you one a them faggits round these parts

Another issue of course is that you can only look as good as your body; if you have a corpulent body that resembles melted cheese more than it resembles a healthy human being, no amount of dressing up will ever fix it. Lots of dudes in three-piece suits still look like ass here for that reason
