I know the BB58 is a great watch on paper and i really like the blue. But fuck, I have such a major case of vintage diver fatigue. I find it hard to get overly excited about another vintage-inspired-over-sized-crown-faux-rivet offering.

It doesn't have fauxtina which is a massive plus.

I don't really have anything bad to say about it, but its so fucking safe and pedestrian that u struggle to give a shit. Id definitely struggle to give 3,000 pounds sterling worth of shits.

That's just my jaded opinion.

I could see a tank working casual with a really simple strap maybe on a grey seude or something.

>Does anyone just start to feel like watches are almost pointless? Like why am I spending so much money on a stupid chunk of metal when I could be spending the same money on things that would enrich my life?
i have this problem very badly
i admire the craftsmanship & engineering but when i actually spend a decent amount of money I start getting thoughts of "did you seriously pay that much money for no functional purpose" after a few days
i try to tell myself it's like an art piece or treating myself or whatever but I still get these thoughts really badly
i think it's because I grew up poor it's impossible for me to spend money on something purely for enjoyment, even though i can easily afford it now I can't bring myself to do it.
probably not everyone's like me though i think this is some kind of mild mental illness

There are a couple of G-Shocks that have it, it's amazing. I call it mirror negative. On the G-Shock DW-5035E at least the display looks very reflective and the digits look sunken in depending on the angle. My best guess is that there it has a polarizer that is very reflective so it's technically a negative display but it looks positive until you use the backlight. I think some cheaper G-Shocks have it but I can't be sure and it's not advertised. It's the best display I have seen on low end G-Shocks.

>>
>>16643718
Get a DW-5600E for under $50. The F91W is great but the strap might not last if you work out with it. The negative display on the G-Shock you posted will be hard to see. The whole watch has poor legibility. If you really need something other than the DW-5600, maybe something a bit dressier get the A168 or look for an MDV106 for under $50. If you are in the US you can get the watches I mentioned cheap right now.

If you want the Rolex, save up and buy grey market. The black bay is a poor substitute, and you won't be happy unless it's actually the watch you dream about.

>>16643352
I understand it, and I agree with you, but the mental illness part of it is down to simple genetics and biology. Humans always want 'more'. Watches are luxury; if you're bombarded by them, then you want to be part of the club. If you didn't come to /wt/ or see pics anywhere on the net, you wouldn't care about watches.

>>16643368
Watches are a luxury, pure and simple. The 'hobby' aspect is just attempting to justify consumption of luxury goods. I hope your fakes go up in value.

>>16643385
It has been both. When they first came out, they were huge, so people wearing them were at first the 'big watch' crowd. Now, that fad has gone, but Omega still produces it, so you tend to see it on people who are in the water a lot.

>>16643508
Try not to cut yourself on them edges, son...

>>16643555
Dealers do this now, so you don't have a choice if you buy it from an AD. Also, stickers have been forged, so it's not a failsafe.

>>16643619
You too.

>It devalues that watch and is usually considered bad taste.
Why is it considered bad taste? I understand people keeping it on but why do people care if I remove stickers meant to be removed from my watch. Sounds like the people who keep stickers on their hats.
>>
>>16643735
If someone is obsessing over the sticker it's because they don't actually know much about the watches, anyone can reproduce a sticker and put it on the back of a watch.
>>
>>16643729
>I understand it, and I agree with you, but the mental illness part of it is down to simple genetics and biology. Humans always want 'more'. Watches are luxury; if you're bombarded by them, then you want to be part of the club. If you didn't come to /wt/ or see pics anywhere on the net, you wouldn't care about watches.
i meant mental illness not really as in "more" but as in inability to spend money on myself for pure hedonistic enjoyment
i have no problem spending on an expensive shoe for example because I can write it off as "well this is going to last much longer than a cheap one and make my life better"
if it's a watch i can't tell myself these things, my only rationale is "i like it" so i feel guilted and unable to spend on it, it feels like mental illness because it's like a compulsion to me
>>
>>16643723
I am not concerned about the stra of the F91W because I won't wear it when I workout because I prefer not to wear a watch while I workout, I just need it to time my rests so I will just put it aside when I am done resting and starting the set.
I might get the A168, heard good things about it, very durable and I can get it+the F91W for 34$.
where can I get an original DW-5600E for under 50$?
>>
>>16643352
>when I could be spending the same money on things that would enrich my life?
If I had something else to spend my money on I would. Watches enrich my life more than anything right now. I have no problem spending $1000 on a watch but when my friends want to take a trip that will probably cost $500 I don't want to do it. Heck my PC is old as fuck I need to update it but I don't want to spend $800+ when I'm not going to do much more than I do now.

If watches are not making you happy don't buy them. I literally wear my watches and feel so happy I would pay even more for them. "This watch makes me $XXXX happy."

>>16643770
>>16643776
People get fake stuff direct from Amazon all the time. It should be real but they have a good return policy. They have a problem with fakes because they have no way to check, everything gets dumped together. It doesn't matter to them because their volume of sales is so big that less than 1% being fake and the buyer being able to tell is not worth the expense to check for fakes.

>>16643771
Yeah they don't even do it any more because the people making fakes just started reproducing them because it's just a sticker, the whole thing is stupid and not a good way to determine if a watch is real.
>>
>>16643766
I'm pretty lucky that I have family to mooch off of if everything goes to shit. I have small saving in the bank and only spend "disposable" money. I'm not wasteful on other stuff. I basically have one hobby at a time I rotate between. I'm also very picky so I'm selective what I spend my money on.

Sitting on your money is perfectly fine. It can cause stress when you don't have it.
>>
Why do people be like, yeah I'm gonna spend thousands on a watch then cheap out when buying aftermarket straps?
>>
>>16643793
>It can cause stress when you don't have it.
yeah exactly
i remember how stressful it was when i was young, didn't know if we were going to be able to pay rent, is electricity or internet going to get shut off today, getting evicted at one point, it was a horrific feeling
now i have quite alot of money available whenever i need it feels like i can actually breathe easy, i never want to spend any of it because it enables me to feel free
>>16643789
>People get fake stuff direct from Amazon all the time. It should be real but they have a good return policy
well there you go
me personally i never had an issue and i've ordered tons of stuff from amazon, and like this anon said it's like 1%
if i were you i would just order because it's almost guaranteed to be genuine, and this is the lowest they've had it in over 6 months, and you can return it for free in case it's not genuine which is probably not going to happen (or if you change your mind even)
and also i would hurry up about it because amazon will probably increase the price very soon
>>
>>16643805
i think maybe people struggle to see the value in a strap, compared to a watch where you can see all the craftsmanship, it's easier for people to just write it off as "it's just a strap"
also for leather straps specifically people will sometimes use the rationale of "well belts are much more product and the same price so i'm obviously being taken for a ride here" but fail to realize it takes just as much effort to create leather band as a belt, i think it might take even more. i forgot i watched a video or article about it a few weeks ago
>>
>>16643555
Keeping a sticker on is pleb tier just like keeping a tag on your boots or a sticker on your baseball cap.
At this point, the Rolex tagline should be "You never actually OWN a Rolex, you merely look after it for the next flipper"

Radio weather does quite a lot of things to very-long-wave transmissions, such as DCF in Germany. So you might not receive it if it's foggy, or the watch isn't on a window sill. Source: located in a marginal reach of said signal, oceAnus catches it almost every night on a southwest-facing fourth-floor window.

Not sure how amazon goes about it, but ebay takes counterfeiting pretty seriously - there us no way they'll ask you to send the item back. I bought an skx that turned out to be fake, contacted the seller and ebay, explained why I though it was fake and got a full reimbursement from ebay, who asked me not to send it back
>>
>>16643961
There are worse Richard Milles
>>
>>16643958
The crown is always in.
You pull it out and let it snap back; and now you're in hacked time setting mode.
When you're done setting the time, you push the button and the movement starts again.

This helps keep dust etc. from entering the case during setting, is less stressful on the crown stem and connected parts, and is more accurate since you're less likely to nudge the hands out of alignment as you push in the crown.
>>
>>16643961
It's hilarious how mad you are
>>
>>16643972
Yeah i thought so, makes more sense. Interesting and useful feature i must say, especially the nudging part happens quite often on 'normal' watches. Thanx for the clarification, anon.

Yeah, on regular mechanical watches, pushing the crown back in after setting the time is always one of those occasions where you have to hold your nose right.

I'm looking for a new watch to replace my Timex Expedition, I got it several years ago and it was a great watch but it's very worn down and something finally died or something as it was loosing about a half hour a day before it stopped working entirely.
I'd like something relatively similar in terms of overall design, maybe a little bit nicer. I'd like a date function, and the water resistance and indiglo function where both quite nice though I could make do without the latter as it died a year back. The glowing hands where nice as well.
I'd like to keep it under 100 bucks but I could go a little bit more. The one i had before was a 40mm outer diameter with a 20mm band size and that seemed to fit my wrist well.
Is there something on sale for BF?

if you're trying to stay under 100 it's tough to top what you already had, I will assume you had the expedition scout version as that one is 40mm with a 20mm band (pictured)
casio marlin (MDV106-1AV) or citizen BI1041-22L are nice option and fit your needs. citizen bm8180-03e is a higher quality piece but is a bit more expensive but you might find it on sale for black friday or cyber monday
the new gshock GA2100-1a is not as offensive as most gshocks and even has a backlight similiar to indiglo but you have to be ok with that style. it's essentially unbreakable though
if you want automatic it's hard, most models under 100 are too small like snk809 or annoying to purchase and have terrible lume like vostok amphibia. invicta 8926 is your best choice if you don't have moral objections to an obvious rolex ripoff
all of these will have lume (glowing hands) but none have indiglo, that's a timex proprietary technology, if you really loved that feature then another timex is your best choice

i think 30m of water resistance is just barely splashproof cause they only test it in completely still water, in real life with water that's actually flowing and rushing the water pressure exceeds the resistance at much shallower depths than 30m

I did quite a bit but I found it fun and pretty easy for seamasters. Seamasters and seikos are good places to start for vintage because theres lots of info about them, spare parts are still relatively easy to come by and they arent crazy expensive. Id stay away from vintage constellations and tudors since those are way more of shitshow when it comes to frankens and old tudors in particular are hard to find parts for since they often have rolex winding systems on old ass fleurier movements. The eta based ones are less problematic. Stay away from chronos too because they hard to find parts for and expensive to service. It can turn into a money pit quick so save those until you're more experienced. The vintage watch forum on omega forums is a really great resource if your looking at seamasters but I havent really looked for seikos. Hope this helps

30m of static water resistance is the equivalent of over 40 lbs of pressure per square inch. There is no way you'll create that much pressure splashing around or swimming and I guarantee you aren't strong enough to move fast enough under water at sea level to create that much pressure either, so no worries

DHgate, but you're going to end up with a shitty DG movement. Getting a decent fake isn't easy right now, you used to be able to get them with Miyotas and ETAs but now its all chink shit unless you feel like getting overly personal with some commie triads and spending $500.00+.

Getting it through customs can be a process too. If they bust you, you get your watch confiscated - or the make you pay import duties on a real Rolex.

A DG2813 movement is a shitty Chinese clone of a Mioyta 8215.

Those reptime faggots like to pay thousands for their shitters - if you get a Noob factory or some other "well known" faker, even if its a DHgate factory second (rejected due to some minor flaw) you can swap the DG movement out for a real Mioyta and get a passable fake for under $500.00

Luckily for you, explorers are easy to fake because they don't have date windows (no need for a custom rolex datewheel) and they don't have a complicated bezel mechanism.

Those rep time guys try to apply the Rolex elitism to fakes, its really sad.

Like my new gshock square , only owned a 5600 before so its my first solar/multiband model.

I think i got a JDM color/model, same module as the updated 5610 but the strap design and resin seem slightly different from my old 5600 and GA-2100.

I think i prefer the old green-EL backlight to the new white LED, but I'm sure its more energy efficient or some bollocks.

Paid 135 shipped from japan, could have gotten the regular red model locally for probably £50 cheaper. Not exactly the best value for a solar square.

Thanks for reading my blog.

If he had removed his bracelet this wouldn’t be a concern and he wouldn’t have to show his shame on reddit.

This grey crocodile strap I think is decent although it takes away attention from the watch. I think a chocolate brown would be best.

What are the odds he is a prissy Mac soiboi. Think wouldn't have been an issue if he here a Thinkpad chad.

honestly this is my first visit to /fa/ and I thought you guys having no taste was a meme. how wrong I was. you should never ever wear a watch. you make watch wearing look like fedora wearing or awkward review brah suit wearing. God. I'm genuinely so angry at how little you seem to understand about the basics of what looks good. this is not a pasta. fucking kill yourself.
>>
>>16645179
Of course, the basics would call for a gmt sports watch to be on a nato strap. Much better
>>
>>16643037
is that a painted housing or did these come from the factory also in all black? i have only seen them in silver. great looking watch btw

>I was thinking about doing this but i feel like the nft market is all a twitter scam. You need to be in their circle to get any sales
From what I understand you get free money for a NFT only if you're already internet famous so it's like opening a Patreon basically, it's not something an anonymous can do.
>>
anon when are you going to tell us the story of being raped by a rolex owner

I got this from intime I think. Was like £150 which isn’t that good a deal when you consider the modern explorers are £200 and are insanely good quality for the price. The 1016 rep seems pretty gnarly but saying that I’ve never held a real one.
I aged it myself by scratching it and staining the dial and hands with coffee. It runs a bit fast too.

I’d buy this and wear it every day if it was 38mm or smaller.
Hamilton are useless and make watches for obese Americans.
>>
>>16645316
do you guys really have discussions on "aging" your fake rolexes?

kinda kino desu ngl

Agreed. Fuck simple 3 handers that are 42mm.

Looks as good as a current year rolex. I wish they would drop the tag branding. They aren't even owned by them anymore.

>perpetual battery
like any watch, there is still a service interval for an ecodrive movement. apparently, there is a capacitor that burns out eventually. but it is still a far greater interval than replacing batteries every couple years.
changing the strap is cheap and easy. most owners of bm8180, including myself, do this because the stock strap has really dorky-looking grommets on it.
>>
>>16645052
if you wear that in public, you really are brave
>>
>>16643076

I just bought a BB58 about a week ago. Original (black) on the bracelet. It's an awesome watch and absolutely beautiful. I have 6.75" wrists and the 39mm size looks great.
>>
>>16645817
Hmm. Definitely something to consider. What did you replace yours with?
>>
Can anyone give info on this watch? type of movement, how much its worth? etc Seller gave no info other than 10k gold rolled plated and that its automatic / he didnt even take photo of inside
