A lot of shit threads lately. I was into gold and black but then I grew out of that and got into silver and grey. I like the look of a silver ring and silver watch on a hand.
I've thought about pairing em with a silver chain but idk. Thoughts?

Very nice serpentine matching man's gold chain and bracelet.

Is the square stone, set in the gold ring, onyx? The carving on the sides of ring give a vintage feel. Is gold ring a vintage / estate piece?
>>
>>16639014
The chains are Cubans. The onyx ring happens to be gold plated silver but I got it for free. Everything else is solid 14k gold. I believe the ring was made in the 80s

I wear my cuban necklace and a smaller rope chain everyday, I only put on rings and the cuban bracelet when goin to fancy and nice places.

i got my door hammered (search warrant) in berlin because 3 days earlier i got involved in some random unrelated thing as a witness, and the police offers thought i was a drug dealer because i was wearing '' too much gold '' dressed in full black in a long vintage coat.

so yeah, even if you dress fashionable (no dc shoes) gold can make you suspicious apparently, lol

you know what stone a lot of male jewellers wear that i think looks good, certainly a lot better than just onyx?

star sapphire, lab created or not.
>>
>>16640049
>star sapphire
>more fragile stone
Star sapphires are definitely cool and have that deep smoky layered look, but they're alot more fragile than onyx. They will chip on impact, so you've gotta be more careful with them.
>>
>>16640135
star sapphire is a 9 on the mohs scale.
onyx is a 7.
onyx is also more brittle than star sapphire.
>>
I dont wear gemstones but I've noticed with jewelry it's all contrast.
I wear primarily dark colours or white and wearing silver/steel/titanium with dark colours provides the best effect I feel.

Especially with simpler jewelry.

14k is the standard in the west, 18k is the standard in Europe like Italy.

14k will let you have "bigger" pieces for the money, 18k is more towards an investment piece.

22k is extremely popular in Asia and that's more for wealth/investment you can basically fit more wealth into a smaller piece

based silver guys bracelet and ring anon
>>
Jeweler apprentice here ama

If you guys would like to save money my advice is to buy a used piece for as close to spot (spot: $ value of the gold) as you can find, ebay is great for this, if you are patient you can even sometimes get it for below spot. Another option is to ask pawn shops of they have anything for spot price, for some things they buy they are just going to send it to the refinery so they will be ok with it since its faster for them.

If you buy brand new jewelry from a retailer there is usually a very hefty markup sometimes as high as 300%+ for the big retailers.

I would say anything higher then 20% over spot is a bad deal, yes there are costs to actually making the jewelry but its not that much, most jewelry is mass produced by casting which makes it into the ready shape, for stone setting it costs them 1-2$ per stone for labor.

Nothing wrong with buying used becayse theres no such thing as "used gold" if it has scuffs if can easily be polished to look brand new.

Silver usually has a much higher markup, I've sold stuff for 1000%+ over the melt value.

I once sold a 5 gram cocaine container pendant with snuff spoon for 400$.

in the future I plan on buying gold bullion and making it into Cuban link chains and bracelets and doubling my money

is it a bad idea to get a 24k cuban link chain in 9mmx30"? Obviously 24k is a lot softer than an alloy but I can't see that mattering with a 9mm chain.

Secondly is 9mmx30" too much? I'm not trying to look like a rapper but I want some weight. Finally, is there anything else to know about chains, like a superior link style or something? I did some basic research and liked miami cuban links the most but if anyone knows of a based esoteric style of chain i'd love to hear about it

Oh cool, I'll ask you but any anons feel free to reply too;
I've decided on either box chain or rope chain for a crucifix I'm interested in getting here>>16641019
Out of these two chain types do you know which is the most durable? Particularly from random bumps to my chest (work in a parts store on a minesite) which is somewhat common when picking heavy stuff up.

Also how noticable is the colour difference with different gold purities? Like that is 18k, what might it look like on a 9/10/14k chain? I have complete 0% experience with this stuff
>>
>>16647648
Color difference between 9 - 10k gold chain and 18k gold crucifix would be very noticeable. Advice is go for 14k chain, in rope as far as visual appeal is concerned.

As for durability difference between box and rope chain, maybe another anon has jeweller knowledge.

another question i have is do you guys prefer the newer style box latches or the old clasps for a cuban link?
Honestly i like the look of a box clasp better but the old clasp style seems more sturdy / timeless
>>
>>16647179
With 24k its not just about it being weak, it would end up with a shitload of big dents and scratches especially since its worn on the wrist.

You can take a 24k 1 oz bar and bend it with your hands that's how soft it is
>>
>>16647450

Real vs fake is quite obvious once you are familiar with how the metal looks.

Real gold will always be extremely heavy and dense for the size, non magnetic.
Real gold is usually hallmarks ei 14k or 585.
It would be best to get a piece of real gold and just look at it compared to somethig gold plated, gold plated stuff always looks off, real gold is extremely bright it has a glow or luster to it.
Another giveaway is just the build qualitu for example real gold jewelry will never have unsoldered links.
Only thing which can be tricky to tell by eye is gold filled stuff, because it actually has a layer of real gold pressed onto the outside so it looks the same as gold.
Gold filled usually has a hallmark something like 1/20 14K GF which means that 1/20 of the weight of the item is real 14k gold.

There are simple methods to tell mainly acid test kit, magnet test and there is also what's called specific gravity which is testing how much water is displaced and comparing it to a chart of metals, every metal and purity has a specific gravity which is impossible to fake.

Stones are a bit more tricky for noobs, real diamonds will have inclusions and flaws when looked at with a loupe, there are cheap diamond testers. Most jewslry now will use lab grown stones because they are much cheaper and are chemically identical

>>
>>16648607
Well it may lose the shiny mirror finish due to getting scuffed. Idk what your thing is with pure gold.
22k and 24k looks the same but 24k is way softer.

It may be hard to find 24k jewelry because the jewelry industry generally doesn't like to use it due to how bad it is for that purpose.

India does traditionally use pure gold tho so you may have luck from some Indian sources

Yeah 22k is more of an investment piece. Some people prefer to have gold in jewelry form rather then bullion. It has some benefits such as being able to go to countries without declaring it, immune to gov confiscation, can wear / store it on your body. Can sell for a higher premium.

You daid you want to spend 10k but you don't want it to be obnoxiously large? That might be hard depending on what you consider huge,
Because 10000$ worth of gold is over 5 oz

Pic related is an example of the size it would be, this chain is 5.8 oz of gold.
You can check on ebay most of the 2wk stuff will be coming from India custom made. Shouldn't be a problem if you find a legit seller and then have it checked out when you get it

Any tips for not getting scammed buying on ebay? So far I've been contacting some jewelers from Miami that I've seen on Youtube like Daniel Jewelry, CMG Links, Lirys etc. I assume their prices are higher but I'd feel confident I wasnt getting scammed although I'd be happy to buy somewhere else as long as I knew I had recourse if they ripped me off.

My fiancee wants to buy me a ring for christmas and I really like this style. Im going to get our aniversary date engraved on the inside of the band.

Should I get it in sterling silver or white gold? (no rhodium). White gold is more than double but I want something that will hold up to everyday wear. Could I get away with sterling or is gold definitely the way to go?
>>
Hi guys I'm new to jewelry and I want to get a nice ring for myself.

Can you recommend rings similar to this one in style/look? The price can be around 400 dollars or lower than it.
>>
>>166490481

I would def recommend to make sure it has a box clasp with the locks on the side too rather then a lobster clasp. The lobster clasps usually are held on with a tiny ass loop. Would suck to lose a chain that big.

Id say on ebay just make sure to check out the feedback and find a business that has a lot of feedback. Its hsrd to get scammed on ebay as a buyer because ebay will always side with the buyer in disputes. Maybe film yourself opening the box when you get it, shouldn't be needed if dealing with a legit business
All you got to do is get it assayed by either your local jewelry district or a refinery to make sure its the right karat.

White gold and sterling are both fine for every day wear. Just depends on your preference and budget.

Only thing you should be aware is that sterling jewelry gets a black patina over time from oxidation

I meant having anything less than a pure metal. Don't believe in the kike jewelry makers they don't like making pure jewelry because they have to charge more in total
Its better for them to charge $1000 on a ring that actually costs $500 in gold so they profit 100% the rings spot price.

Chill schizo. Its not some conspiracy 24k is genuinely shitty for jewelry.

If you have a thin (like dainty girl jewelry thin) 24k necklace it will get completely deformed after the slightest pressure.

For gold teeth no dentist would feel comfortable putting 24k gold because it would be full of problems it will get deformed from chewing.

Some people also want and have preferences for different color gold.
24k all looks exactly the same, some people want whiter or greener gold, or pure white and rose. I think rose gold looks nice.

24k is stupid for jewelry here's why: the main reason for golds popularity is the shinyness, that nice reflective mirror finish.
24k gold is so soft that that mirror finish is impossible to maintain, it will become very dull due to all the tiny scuffs and scratches

Np you should also be aware that many times depending on the seller white gold is rhodium played to make it pure white like silver, this is common on wedding rings and the playing wears off over time. White gold is like a subtle tinge of yellow it looks different to silver and yellow gold

>>16651210
Jewelers sell whatever karat people want they don't care they will always charge more for higher karat. You get what you pay for

They like this because you will get much more variety of customers with every price range. Usually its easier to sell 10 things for 100$ each then 1 thing for 1000$

any tips for going about a custom made engagment ring? i wanna get my girl something that nobody else in the world ould have design wise. its gonna be saphiree aa the main stone with pearls (and diamonds?) around it? something like that. sum i was thinking is could one talk to a ring designer and give a sketch?
>>
>>16654606
>pearls
far too soft for daily wear, especially on the hands
>>
>>16654870
i see, so theyd likely fall out or break eventually? any good alternatives? she unironically dislikes diamonds. she loves saphires, emeralds, moonstones, pink moonstones, pearls. my idea was that sapphire would be the main gem and then it would be held or surrounded by the others. her birth stone is saphire
>>
>>16654606
Yeah it's possible but like the other anon said its not ideal for wedding rings, same thing as opals they are beautiful but get damaged easily and water and soap fucks them up.

The other thing is that pretty much the only way to set pearls is glueing them in which seems cheap design for a wedding ring.

Diamonds are just popular for daily wear ringa because they have a mohs hardness of 10,
Rubies,emeralds sapphires have a hardness of 8 or 9.
I have a ruby in my ring and the edges of the table have been scuffed down around the edges.

May be check out old Victorian wedding rings for design ideas.

Mist diamond rings now are just thin bands with one big diamond in the middle

You could do pink or yellow sapphires, there's even white sapphires that look like diamonds.

A good tip for my savvy /biz/ inclined bros for wedding rings is to get moissanite instead of diamonds, they are very similar and moissanite actually has a higher refraction rate meaning it sparkles better then diamonds.
It also has 9.5 hardness vs 10.

You could either just be honest and tell her its a "fair trade" equivalent and doesn't support blood diamonds and slave trade.

Or you could just not tell her and say its a flawless diamond or VVS that you spent a lot of money on. Girls couldn't tell the difference
Normally the only way to spot a diamond for normies is it having small inclusions on the inside, with cheap diamond testers moissanite shows up as diamonds too.

I know I'm personally not spending 5000$+ for a little rock that won't hold its resale value. Roasties are always shocked after their divorce when they take their wedding ring to the pawn shop and they offer them 300$.

It would be better to just get her 5000$ of pure gold like Indians do at least it would be more valuable in the future

>>16655123
thanks a ton bro, ill look into moissante as an alt for the diamonds on the side if i go w that. its weird bc her not liking clear gems or diamonds in a way makes it harder to shop but itll probably be cheaper ig. but yeah as you said im not laying down thousands, and shes even said for me not to. not even that “lol dont buy me this” but like actual sincerity.

Thanks. I got it at an antique auction for a steal (£225). It didn't have a hallmark, only a date stamp (common on Victorian jewellery), and bidding on unknown carat gold can be iffy so it was just me and one other guy who wanted it. I had it assayed and fully hallmarked; it's a a little over 8g of 18ct gold.

I really like it. It is very versatile. I also wear a lot of blue and black, so the dark red (it oxblood red IRL) of the carnelian contrasts nicely and the deep warm gold pops against the black. I'm really happy with it!

Here's another photo.

Pretty much you are always gonna overpay for silver. Unless you buy some used piece at a flea market or ebay auction.

The markup on silver is much bigger then gold because it takes the same labor to create but silver is vastly cheaper

Gold stuff is usually 100%+ over spot whole silver is commonly 1000%+ over spot

Hey I was trying to Redpill them on used gold.

Nothing wrong with buying used gold. The gold will always be static, just might have scuffs which can be polished to new.
I understand not wanting to buy some items used, but gold is a no brainer.

If you buy for spot you can literally buy 2 chains for the price of 1 retail.
Yes there is some labor cost involved in creating jewelry, but it's quite low unless its hand made which most jewelry isn't nowadays. The difference between spot and retail price pretty much just goes to the jewelers pocket as profit.

Paying 25% or less over spot is a fair deal.
Paying 100%+ is just rape

It’s a cross, not a crucifix. A crucifix includes Christ on the cross. Protestants generally favor the bare cross (representing triumph over death through Christ) whereas Catholics favor the crucifix (representing Christ’s suffering for the sake of man). It might seem insignificant but the difference in iconography speaks to a difference in ethos, Catholics have stronger doctrinal preferences towards works, discipline, and the inherent sinfulness/guilt of man.
