I'm gonna buy a Sugess edition

This thread is about the appreciation of watches and their design, their history, and the engineering and materials that are required to make a functioning timepiece.

Should I get it on a leather, black rubber or orange rubber band? I'll likely put it on a rally strap eventually, but until I do I need to make this choice.

considering buying an 80s 16013 Rolex from Bob's Watches online. Anyone got any advice for or against, and what servicing an old but fully functional Rolex is like?
>>
What's a good first watch to gift a younger family member? Ideally <$300 but definitely <$500. They start exams soon and they mentioned wanting a watch to keep track. My first choice is a BM8180 and then maybe spend extra on a nice strap. They do outdoorsy things so I guess they need something decently rugged.

>>
What's the point of Chronos? Do you actually use them to time shit? What are you fags timing?
>>
>>16550638
Show them pics of a gshock. a ga2100 has a lot of appeal, it's rugged but also looks sleek for a gshock, he could also mod it with an aliexpress bezel if he so chooses. Be like you want to buy it for yourself and ask them what they think of it. if they like the look of a rolex you could buy them a san martin or heimdallr homage, though I would get them a quartz watch, I had a mechanical as a kid and always ignored it because I would always have to set the time on it.
>>
>>16550645
Holy fuck nigger are you retarded?
>>
>>16550645
Anything. I arrive to a shop and it's closed with a sign that says they'll be back in 5 minutes I turn on the timer to see if it's true. I make some tea I turn on the time to remove the tea bag within 3 minutes. I cook BBQ I turn on the timer to keep track of the cook time. I drive my car down a back country road I time myself to see if I can beat the time I drove down it last time.

The driving makes sense but a stopwatch isn't a timer. And are you really fiddling with your own watch while driving?

It just really looks like a complication that looks cooler than it actually is useful unless you're really a passive observer to something that requires ~seconds precision in which case a digital instrument seems more reliable.

Has it been shipped?

If not it's perfectly normal for grey market watches to take a bit of time aus bro. They usually don't keep all watches in stock but keep them listed as "in stock" if they're available on the market. When you make the order they track down the watch and buy and ship but sometimes since they're not authorized dealers and especially now with Covid it can take a bit of time until they're available in their supply chain. It's really no different than if you were to walk into your local dealer and ask for a watch that wasn't in stock.

Normally if they can't find it within a reasonable amount of time they contact you for a refund, but I'd give it about a month plus shipping time and then I'd ask for a refund and try somewhere else.

Grey market dealers don't buy their watches on Ebay, you stupid fuck. They might buy them from the same supply chain where the Ebay guy gets his from though. But obviously you're not eliminating a middle man by buying it from the Ebay guy directly. Your math, like your defective brain, is all messed up.

Again, this is normal grey market watch stuff due to how unauthorized supply chains work. It's like as if you go into your local watch shop and is like, "Hey guy, there's this watch I've been keeping my eye on..." and the guy is like, "Yeah I obviously don't have it in stock but I'll see if I can find one, I'll give you a call..." except this is the internet and they need the cash upfront because otherwise people could pre-order a fuckton of watches that they have no intention of buying.

Idiot...

Depends. If you want a rugged watch that is very hard to break the sub, gmt is rugged as well, just a little less. It's nice if you like a little colour, also a bit thinner than a sub if I'm not mistaken. Had a 16610 and liked it, but it was too rolexey for my taste and traded it for the little handwinder I posted earlier. Coke bezel gmt is the best gmt for me, kind of understated as far as sports rolexes go.

Literally everyone who participates in "watch media" is an unrepentant faggot with no redeeming qualities. There's a reason so many fat, old, forever alone and/or angsty losers get this into watches. It's not because they are decent people. Take a large portion of this general, for example. There's a line between appreciating watches and being an autistic shitlord and far too many ITT and on media platforms left that line in the dust a long time ago.

14060 is really the best choice. No loupe so somewhat more undercover for most normies. Looks as good on the bracelet as on basically any other strap. You really need to try hard to break it, service it for a couple hundred bucks every ten years and you're set for life. It'll most likely also never lose value, so that's a nice extra. Don't buy the cheapest one and buy the seller. Box and papers are a thing if you buy from the original owner or if the seller can 100% show you provenance of the first owner's purchase. Otherwise the premium is not worth it.

Not picky, 2nd time zone might be nice though since I work with teams across the country
> Preferred strap option, e.g. leather, nylon, bracelet
Leather for occasions but easily swappable with nato straps for every day use
> Wrist size or desired watch size.
6 ish inch nerd wrists so 38-40mm

Looking for something that dresses up nicely but can be dressed down by swapping out the strap for casual wear

its hard to put into words sometimes how a man with a 200 dollar watch is projecting something different than one with a 2k watch than something different than a 20k watch.

not a fan of g-shocks they're needlessly big. Nowadays the electronics could probably be half the size of a microSD card so why the hell are they so huge
>>
>>16553881
Why are citizenfags always like this? The only way they can validate their purchase is to say Citizen has the cheapest watches and nobody should buy anything over $XXX. I have never once heard someone who owns a Citizen say what they actually like about their watch.
>>
>>16553884
The electronics inside a G-Shock have always been tiny. The size comes from the extra space for the module to "float" inside the case and the rubber bezel around the case. If you don't want shock protection they have the same module in other watches. The only thing that can make G-Shocks smaller is material technology like carbon fiber. They have been using that for a while now to save on weight and make the watches thinner. It's not a huge difference in my opinion. The squares are small enough in my opinion and I'm fine with big digital watches. The problem is the analog watches which look huge on small wrists.

The re-issued ones with a more modern mechanism were pretty cheap a couple of years ago but a quick look at ebay suggests you're SOL the prices for the reissue are greatly inflated now

I think its because 4chan attracts poor losers in their mothers basements that cant afford anything else, why would anyone that knows anything about watches go on this site?

It's a mechanical chrono for only $8-900. The fact that it's a cheap-enough-to-not-care beater makes up for some of its aesthetic shortcomings.

The way it works is pretty neat. I'd like to get a vintage one on eBay but they're of course, pretty expensive. I'm starting to look for '80s chronographs similar to this one. Don't know when I'll actually get one, though.

A $4.5k vintage datejust is only going to give you headaches. Most likely over polished. It still not as good looking as the GS, sorry. Go $5.5-6k and you'll get a good example and had a leg to stand on.

Just do you research and call your AD the best price they can do. Tell them you only want this specific watch and you don't come in to browse or take pictures for instagram with Submariners or Daytonas. This works for the most sold / standard regular models. LE will be harder/impossible.

Also keep in mind that you will not get the lowest price ever, but the service if needed and being a local shop is worth something too. Don't try to haggle anything extra, just be honest and tell them it works for you or it doesn't.

(For reference, got my black on black on steel Seamaster 300m P for 18% off just by a phone call)
