This thread is for the well dressed man and those seeking to improve their dress by exploring colors, patterns, textures and other styles while appearing more mature, elegant and refined.
>What is “sprezzatura”?

Required reading: https://parisiangentleman.co.uk/2017/02/24/how-obsession-with-sprezzatura-can-kill-the-sprezzatura/
>Do I have to be European to wear this style?
Absolutely not. Anyone can wear this as long as they are confident and don’t care what people think. You should be dressing for yourself, not for others. Is this style more common in Italy and other Mediterranean countries? Absolutely. But you could wear this wherever you are.
>How is this different than Trad/Ivy/Prep?
Whereas the /TIP/ threads favor classic styles and tailoring, wider fits and more drape, Mediterranean and modern menswear favors slimmer cuts, tailored closer to the body to accentuate and flatter your body. Slim fit is allowed and in many cases encouraged.
>Where should I start?
Start with sport coats and mix and match with trousers. Experiment with colors and patterns. Don’t be afraid of color. This isn’t business style, where bland conformity is the norm. We want to be colorful, and experiment with fabrics. Wear linen, wool, cotton, anything you want.

I bought some new moccasins and they look really good, I've been receiving multiple compliments on them

Thing is, wearing them without socks is giving blisters to my toes

They're not meant to be worn with socks, and no-show ones ALWAYS slip off my feet within minutes

What the hell do I do. Do I just live with the pain?
>>
>>16547090
They'll break in nicely if they’re decent mocs. In any case, you’ll still build up callouses assuming you’re not a bitch. No shows are best just to wick moisture. Don’t need to fit. Still, don’t be afraid to throw some white socks into the mix with jeans, although that’s a very casual look
>>
>>16547090
All leather shoes need to break in before they are comfy. The better the leather, the longer is takes to break in, generally. (Leather heel counters break in quicker, though)
>>
I've been setting aside dose for a nice sports coat, but id like some advice on the material. I tend to heat up easily so I wanted to get something that will breath and its between Fresco or trying out Ring Jackets Balloon Wool jackets. Color will be Mid or Charcoal grey or Navy.
>>
>>16547453
You could also look at linen or linen/wool/silk blends. For sport coats I like the linen blends best. They don't have the linen issues, wear cold and have the best texture.
>>
>>16547090
Try out women's no show socks in unisex colors (decent quality and made from very thin synthetic fabric). Other tricks include using tape on your ankle/toes until the shoes are broken in,
>>
>>16547463
>You could also look at linen or linen/wool/silk blends.
I seen some of those, and considered one or two but I'd ideally like this jacket to wear most of the week, year round, and I'd rather not wear linen in the fall; Just doesn't work visually, I think.

Something I did not mention earlier but a lot of the breathability comes from the lack of a lining and the full canvas construction. Both of those can be hard to come by with OTR jackets.

Since you live in Dallas, I would say linen blends should be fine all year. Their texture generally does not look 'linen' unless you want that kind of look. It's just easier to get a 'sports coat' with that kind of fabric.

Fresco or Hopsack weaves are generally used for blazers. There is nothing wrong with them but you asked for a sport coat.
>>

>Something I did not mention earlier but a lot of the breathability comes from the lack of a lining and the full canvas construction. Both of those can be hard to come by with OTR jackets.
I was planning to go the MTO route to go without lining or canvasing, should have mentioned that.
>Since you live in Dallas, I would say linen blends should be fine all year. Their texture generally does not look 'linen' unless you want that kind of look. It's just easier to get a 'sports coat' with that kind of fabric.
Fair enough. Its more of a half/half split. I'm mainly in Oklahoma/Missouri during the fall and early winter,
>Fresco or Hopsack weaves are generally used for blazers. There is nothing wrong with them but you asked for a sport coat.
Frankly I havent paid much attention to fresco so im not familiar with its popular uses, so thanks for the heads up
>>
>>16547567
Not recommending this specifically but I think this is a good example for inspiration. https://hespokestyle.com/product/navy-blue-hopsack-suit/
https://hespokestyle.com/product/light-grey-fresco-sport-coat/

If you don't have anything like this, get a navy/grey suit in the right fabric. Even if you 'never' wear the trousers. You can always wear it as separates. Get it with a full-canvas. Completely unlined is something I would only do with seasonal garments and if I knew that the fabric in question would drape well without interlining.

Thanks for the links and ideas, anon, I really appreciate them. Thanks lads.

Thanks. Any opinions on darts vs. pleats on shirts? I made a shirt with a back pleat and got asked why I also added darts. I thought the pleat provides shoulder mobility and the excess fabric should be removed by adding darts in the back and/or taking in the side seams.
However, there seems to be an opinion that you should have either pleats or darts: pleats if you want a baggy fit, darts if you want the shirt fitted.

From what I understand pleats are more American and English while a clean back is more Italian style. It does seem a little odd to have both pleats and darts on a shirt.
On the topic of shirt details pic related is something I've never seen before but looks cool as fuck. I think it's a vintage thing, I'm not even sure what it's called.

a button down collar??
>>
>>16551604
That's really cool. Sometimes a collar can stick out a little bit at the back, and when a jacket is on top, can make it uneven. Seems like that is the solution.
>>
>>16551648
No look closer at the angle of the collar
>>
>>16551604
I have a few older shirts with a button on the back of the collar, if I remember correctly it's too prevent your tie from peeking out when wearing it loosely
>>
>>16551604
I've seen a few people walking around with buttons on the back of their collars like that.

Imo it's a feature that shouldn't need to be there. Your collar should stay day without any aid.

Grey trousers probably work too. Sport coats you have to test in the mirror, parkas work, waxed cotton jackets work, down jackets work, leather jackets work. It's really not hard to pair this type of shirt with stuff. The only issue is that the blue fades after you wash it.

The issue with this jacket would be looking like a tryhard. If you want to wear shirt + tie (like the pic), you'll need to wear a sweater, elegant shoes/boots and make everything look sharp.

That shirt isn't very good anyway. Wine red is hard to pull of especially with white buttons, and I personally hate pockets on shirts

To be honest anon, there are MORE things wrong with that image than there are things wrong with you

The most obvious is how uncomfortable you look, but the greenish shorts (?) with a red shirt make you look like you just escaped Santa's factory. The yellow chilean-grandparents-house style tiles, the third-world power socket holes, the terrible lighting, the unkept beard, the fact that that shirt was obviously folded and not ironed, all these things combined make for a terrible picture. If you were at least wearing some decent pants and not in such a terrible stance, that shirt would look okayish on you. Confidence too can go a long way, friend.

That exact shirt is made by Bryceland's and Ascot Chang. Drake's of London have a similar collar and make great ocbd's. They are all expensive.

Thanks. Unfortunately they don't have back shots of the shirts. Anyway, I am going to make a shirt like this, just haven't decided on the cuff style yet.
Most of all I want a double cuff, but I also want to be able to roll my sleeves up. Is a barrel cuff better for this then, or should I just put less layers of fabric into the cuff?

I used to have a bookmark of an Italian website where you could custom order clothes, in particular I was looking at linen safari jackets and the likes. When i recently reinstalled windows on my computer I lost the bookmark. Does anyone have an idea of what that website might have been? Thanks.

this is supposedly a 50s waistcoat, i think its made of melton fabric judging by the weave but im not too sure. its a little tight but its workable, especially if im actually stood up in it. will probably size up on waistcoats next time.

Looks fine, but I don't like the whole outfit. Nothing really matches. You should be going with a more neutral color for the pants, and silver ties pretty much always look bad
>>
>>16569944
desu i think my mistake is going with tan pants, i can see stone looking much nicer but someone i was going to go out with today was also wearing a blue shirt with stone pants so i opted for khaki. i do regret buying the silver tie, but i got it stupid cheap so i cant complain too much.

think ill also flog the waistcoat along later, after i replace the buckle and repair a small tear in the lining.

if youre around tailoranon, what would you recommend as a "one and done" sewing machine? i tried learning on a cheap thing and wound up frustrated by the machine just not being able to do certain things, or needing babying through tasks that it should have no difficulty with.
>>
TRAD IVY PREPPY
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE *TIPS* THREAD???
>>
>>16572035
Whenever it gets posted it gets ruined by spergs.
>>
>>16571994
I use a Singer machine from the 80s, but modern ones aren't expensive and are more comfortable to use. No idea what brands you have available, but function wise I use: straight stitch, zigzag stitch, stitch length from 1mm to 5mm.
Some other basics are manual operation of the needle, stitching backwards, winding up the bobbin thread, changing needle position. Those are so basic, I can't imagine that there is a machine that doesn't have them.
Button hole functions on the machine seem nice to have at first, but they don't really work on my old machine and the newer ones have problems with button holes, too, from what I heard: it seems to be hard to grasp where the machine starts the hole, so it is in a different position than you intended.
This doesn't concern me as much, because I just sew them by hand.
>>
i promise you if i ever see someone dressed "trad" and "preppy" irl im stealing your fucking wallet and phone
>>
>>16572094
any suggestions if i want to be able to work with literally any fabric with 4+ layers? my current machine cant even sew waistbands back up on twill pants
>>
>>16572174
Spoken like a true subhuman nig
You won't do anything and anyone that makes these retarded posts is a high schooler
You won't give a shit if someone is dressed nice or not because no one on earth cares how someone else is dressed. If I'm in the grocery store and someone is wearing a suit I'll assume they just came from their professional job or something, or if they're dressed nice I'll assume they like to take care of themselves
If your first instinct is to steal the wallet of a complete stranger simply because of how they're dressed then you are the textbook definition of a "nigger" for that is exactly how blacks behave
I know you're just trying to act tough on the internet, but you sound like a complete idiot
>>
>>16572035
>>16572061
Yeah, I remember that now. Damn those anti-trad anti-tips spergtards.
>>
>>16572266
I had no problems with that, so if the bobbin thread makes loops with too many layers check the tension setting. Otherwise get a sharper needle or operate the wheel manually if you have problems getting through the fabric.
My machine can handle roughly 6 layers of heavy cotton canvas if I do it manually, but it's too much for the motor. Likewise, I imagine that all of the known brands, such as Brother, Husqvarna, Pfaff, Singer, Yuki can handle that, they are competing with eachother after all. What about the price? I'd recommend machine in the $200 price range, mine probably would be in the $300-400 range nowadays
>>
>>16571743
is this for real?
>>
>>16572290
price is whatever it needs to be, ill be viewing this as investing in a tool that ill likely have and use for decades.

you sure any machine in that category is good for heavy cottons and woolen fabrics like say doeskin or moleskin?
>>
>>16572300
I'd ask in a sewing forum or in the store, if I were you. Really, I only have experience with this old machine and a modern one that I used for some light fabric, most of my advice so far was just guessing.

The guys there were so obsessed by minute details that if you posted any fit no matter how good it was, they would find issue with it and call it shit.
So people just stopped posting fits, and then it became a dead general

This needs to be a lesson to /sprezz/ too. I don't see many fits anymore because people are afraid their outfit isn't sprezzy enough.
Rebrand it to /menswear/ and anything that involves a tucked in dress shirt is fine to post

Just get a tape measure and measure yourself or a pair of your best fitting pants and then compare those measurements to theirs. Ignore their sizes like small, medium, large and instead focus on the actual numbers
Get the pair that is closest to your body or your best fitting pants
>>
>>16573973
I find my current pants are snug against the thighs but some gap from the legs and waist is loose. These are belt loop pants fyi.
>>
>>16573338
>waist
tape measure arouond your waist at the desired height (or whatever height the mtm place is offering you - ie high rise, mid rise, low rise). The measurements are usually in inches (unless they're not) Waist 40 means 40" waist
>inseam/leg length
Tape measure from bottom of the crotch (where the inside seam of the pant leg begins) to the bottom of the pant leg

These are the two major measurements for trousers. most sites online will have a sizing guide that can help you.
Not all sizes are the same though. clothing makers are sloppy and sometimes two items of the same measurements are actually 1 or 2 inches out... it's just how it is. Always best to try things on if you can
