Got these issued to me in miltary school and I still wear them 7 years later. There's a ton of quality combat boots out there. Tactical Research, Garmont, Danner, and Oakley all make a quality boot.

I know that there was a period when southern european armies (italy, spain, maybe france) wore leather boots without socks, but this practice was generally considered inferior by more northern armies, even for hot weather. Also, modern leather contains things you don't want touching your skin. Search for veg tan leather if you're so inclined on this. (Also, I've worn my soft leather lined boots without socks a few times and it feels disgusting and makes a pumping sound as if I was constantly farting. Not recommending it.)

If your feet are super sweaty or something, you can change socks, that will take some moisture out of the boot. (Actually pls don't. Imagine the smell...) Back in the days, it was often suggested you wear two pairs alternatingly so each pair can dry out completely inbetween uses. Also fucking wear socks, seriously. It's unhygienic and may cause superficial injury to your foot if you don't - which is actually a risk factor for trench foot.
