What are the most obviously ill-fated, dangerous, comedically unsafe DIY youtube videos you've seen? Not gore, but machines that are definitely bound to CREATE gore.

Some of my favorites are the wood-splitter "machines" that people like to make:
https://youtu.be/Uz7FdvuVjB8

Or the angle grinder "hacks" like this nauseating stump-grinder:

That wood splitter is pretty based, reminds me of old school punch presses...not forgiving at all but not terribly risky if you stay hyper focused and work smart.
That stump grinder is insane, hard to decide if the grinding discs or the open chain is the bigger danger...as if that's not enough, running it in sandals is the chef's kiss.

Makes picrel look sane by comparison.
>>
Anything from pakistan/afghanistan where they rebuild asbestos brake discs by hand or have some fat grandpa dipping his bare hands into battery acid to rebuild batteries is fun.
Then you also have the tiny factories run by 5 guys in some bombed out building or they've got some rube goldberg setup that turns regular old rebar (probably from other bombed out buildings) into nuts or bolts. 5 guys in dressed and sandals flinging around white hot slugs of metal while chain smoking and breathing in all the rust and fumes from god knows what.
Example:

Yes, mother of god that infuriates me more than anything about those pakistani videos... It's like they try to make it even more difficult for themselves.

Some people say it's either a caste thing or some sort of hierarchy shit, like how experienced workers anywhere sometimes shit on the new guy. As smart as the guys in these videos are it's impossible to believe they think it's efficient to dump parts on the floor.
>>

I was thinking about how they couldn't figure out what to do with the foot long piece that was too short to feed in. Like they don't have a follower for it. But I'd use it to for the batch size samples he did at the beginning
>>
>>2526265
It's because it's a miserable chore that must be done whether you are in the mood for it or not. Usually when you need firewood you are not in the mood to chop it so losing a limb doesn't seem so bad as is normally would.

>>2526149
That was my same reaction when I first saw that splitter too. There are just so many things. Splitting and having the chunks fly out uncontrollably, the giant blade of death, raising the chunks on the platform by winding a rope onto the exposed shaft.
>>
The wood splitter is fucking hilarious. His generally depressed demeanor and nonchalance towards the logs bouncing off his crocs really says a lot about why he's built this death trap.

>>2526018
Good video. Makes anything dangerous I've seen in metal shops seem outright OSHA approved.
>>
>>2526122
The funny thing is that the guy is talking about the safety problems with sharpening this way in the first half, talking about looking out for the blades catching and flying off into your face, and making sure you don't have gloves, sleeves, or hair getting wrapped up in there, etc. It's also why he just bumps the switch and grinds as it coasts. He acknowledges that it is the less safe way, and not as good as refining the edge compared to going through the grits on manual stones. But he just does it anyway for speed.
>>
>>2526243
It's like that in multiple steps of the video. Like, put the sieve below the tumbler when you empty it out. Put the bowl at the discharge of the punch press, etc.

I didn't want to make my own thread so I'm just going to post it here. Why do all youtubers eventually get retarded? I remember when Wranglerstar did actual homesteading, instead of posting /pol/ memes and complaining that his wifi is killing him and how he's grounding his bed by sticking coppers into the ground terminal of his electrical sockets like pic related.

Is it just the curse of popularity? Where he needs to continually make more and more shocking videos to get views? Every fucking video he makes now is:
>Why I eat firewood
>The craziest splitting axe!
>you wont' BELIEVE this professional homeowner hack!
>reject modernity, embrace tradition!

The secret is that those wood pilings are submerged all the time. Without any oxygen able to get to the wood they last perfectly well for decades.
Other examples are the pilings houses stand on in the Netherlands or those supporting the Speicherstadt in Hamburg Germany.

For wood pilings it is vital that they're submerged all the time. The oxygen starvation prevents or heavily delays the decomposition processes.

Best example is now in the Netherlands those same wood pilings. Due to the heavy dewatering of the low laying areas for pasture the soil itself drops down exposing the pilings themselves at the top causing them to rot right under the brick walls.

Because they learn that they're "content creators", not "The thing im meant to be doing while videoing it", YouTubers these days will basically do anything the algorithm rewards, 3 views from retards looking at someone doing retarded shit pays more than your 1 view looking at not retarded shit. The algorithm promotes this kind of behaviour too to make everyone stupid.
>>
>>2527834
>Is it just the curse of popularity?
Wranglerstar in particular was always an idiot. The only good videos he made was him talking about his brush fire kit and fighting brush fires. The rest were trash even before he revealed his /pol/tardation.

There are many good content creators on YT. The thing is, you have to look for people who are doing what they like and filming it. People like Jimmy, Bernadette, Tony, Matt, Abom, Anna are still doing good content. What those people have in common is that they have a day job and YT is just something they do on the side. That means they aren't required to placate the Algorithm to the degree that full time YTers need to.

These retards building homemade waste oil burners. They hook up,an old leaf blower motor to a drip feed and light it with a torch. No safety controls, no refractory, no blower to disperse heat. You know before Lean, we just had the "lathe dept", "mill dept", "grinders dept", etc. Lean and all that other office people fap material is gay, but having some effort into grouping things by product is still better than just by machine type, which many factories used to do. It is important that your office people understand the differences between theory and reality when conflicts crop up, and accept that things will never be arranged 100% perfectly to the plan.

He built this abortion out of a biscuit tin and a dog food can. No power vent and no spill safety so if the exhaust starts rolling out he's in for a treat. The burner is so hot that the flue pipe is glowing cherry red and the dumbass is bragging he can get it to 1000 degrees (which coincidentally is the max temp for that pipe). If you actually used this thing indoors you'd be taking your life into your hands, if it doesn't start a fire the CO will kill you. There's an old dude on Ambergris Caye who's the last remaining fisherman in the area permitted to harvest live conch from the reefs. Every day he goes out and gets a haul of conch, then putters his boat over to the same spot where he's been cleaning them for decades. He pops them out of their shells, and tosses all the shells overboard, to the point that the spot is a shallow area from the tens of thousands of accumulated conch shells.
He makes middling money from selling the meat to restaurants, but the wild thing is that he could set up a 20 sqft stall in San Pedro and sell these shells to tourists for $50-100 apiece, easily. Could probably make 10x his current income, even accounting for the retail space rent and the cost of hiring someone to staff it full-time, but he just throws the things away. My mom traded him a cold soda for a shell the size of her head.

I made a thread about this Wintergatan guy a few years back (>>1936686), talking about how his marble machine project was doomed to fail and his precision was a fucking joke, and I got a lot of whiny crying from kids who mistook the guy being entertaining for competency.

Anyway, it's been a few years, and after his project crashed and burned like I said it would, he's finally back again with a "better" design showing a bunch of the same basic failings again. On the plus side, at least this time he's doing it all in CAD first, so maybe the parasites around him will try and explain to him how materials work BEFORE he starts cutting (although I doubt this, he seems to have closed himself off into a discord hugbox which I assume is just filled with yes men). I highly recommend this channel, it's a very enjoyable look at a man with a dream running into his own limitations and failing to make any sensible decisions. His latest idea is a massive programming wheel made out of plastic with what looks to be essentially no internal support, and individually manufactured programming pins which I'm pretty sure would make any grown man start crying if they were tasked with changing out dozens of them during a live show like he seems to think is a viable idea.
>>
>>2541802
there's a book called earthing that lists a number of studies
I remember it reduced mostly inflammation from what I remember.
It ties in to the old chinese meridian system which is backed up by studies originally by the North Korean researcher Kim Bong Han who was investigating dye stains on rabbits and discovered a lot of bizarre swirly patterns, he had to study live rabbits because the pattern disappeared after death.

As I understand it it's mostly about charge normalisation we're somewhat designed to be in contact with an earth point and since nowadays we're heavily insulated while being exposed to more distorting electric fields than ever.
You can probably achieve the necessary effect by staying in contact with grounded metals like your copper pipes for long enough.
>>
>>2541812
He never said he was going to change the pins during a show. It was like 8 plates of the drum that the pins would be pre arranged on. He'd have a set of plates for every song.
>>
>>2541977
I'm talking about the new design. This one has 2 drums, and requires manually changing every single pin. The old design was better in this regard.
>>
>>2541979
Oh huh. What a strange step backward.

Is there a quick change mechanism for the drum? Maybe he just never plans to go on stage with it, to make another major revision
>>
>>2541990
There's a quick change, at least as a concept. It uses a big helical gear on the edge of the drum, so in theory you can swap them out painlessly. In practice? Those gears are going to get shredded.
>>
>>2541796
Maybe this?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lead%E2%80%93acid_battery#Plates
>In 1880, Camille Alphonse Faure patented a method of coating a lead grid (which serves as the current conductor) with a paste of lead oxides, sulfuric acid, and water, followed by curing phase in which the plates were exposed to gentle heat in a high-humidity environment. The curing process changed the paste into a mixture of lead sulfates which adhered to the lead plate. Then, during the battery's initial charge (called "formation") the cured paste on the plates was converted into electrochemically active material (the "active mass").
The "clay" looks like bits of metal. So they burn it to produce lead oxide I guess and mix it into a paste and apply it to their plates. Pretty wild they're doing all that shit by hand.

Like get se better fans for circulation and ppe.... you mean just lose like $400 a month? So what? So we don't get lead poisoning?

Get some more efficient machines get a real building, raise some capital and do this for real. So Pakistani battery co.Co., which is partially owned by the military and doesn't like any competition comes in and sees them and literally drops a bomb on them?

>They just cant afford to buy it, so they stick with old factories and paying people just enough to survive.
This stuff is really more expensive because whatever machine they use this for is going to break and cost more in loss of profits due to downtime than they initially saved.

Maybe it's an issue of low IQ making it harder to think more than one step ahead, but it's also self-perpetuating since constant fuckups in industry is going to drive up interest rates, which is going to make corner cutting even more attractive, which is going to further increase the rate of fuckups.
>>
>>2542456
Literally the opposite.
They complain the capitalists use their capital to buy capital machines and factories. This is bad because the workers see how incredibly productive they are with the new tools and think it's their own hands accomplishing it, when it's a combination of capital and labor.

How many people do.you need to dig a hole as deep and fast as an excavator can? There's actually no solution, you can't get enough shovels in the ground to do it, but say like 200. That's a lot of fucking manhours. Or you need 1 guy and an excavator. The hole is only worth $5000 that's all you can pay. So you can pay 200 people $25 for 8 hours of work, or you can lay the one guy with an excavator $5000 but he needs to pay the loan on his excavator off too, but he's fine with that, he has a payment plan he's comfortable with. Someday it'll be mostly paid off and then he just needs to worry about maintenance.

The 200 guys could go murder the guy with the excavator and steal it I guess. Then they'd still have one $5000 hole to dig and still 200 workers to pay but then they wouldn't be in the shit at least. 199 of them get to relax and they'll still get $25. The guy running the machine has an easier job than with the shovel, but he still only gets $25

And then it will break because none of them have the skills to run it properly, and they won't get a loan for a new one because the lending institutions saw what they did to the first guy.

The only design I've ever liked was one built around a simple lever. The Splitting head was a giant heavy maul, probably a couple hundred pounds, on the end of a boom. On the other side of the lever there was a counterweight, heavy enough to just slightly overpower the maul and raise it up.
To split, you'd place the wood on the splitting bar, and give a gentle tug on a rope hanging from the maul. It would come down at a moderate speed, but the inertia would be so fucking massive it would pop the wood instantly.

You should really give it a watch, it's entertaining as fuck. It goes from "okay these solutions aren't very good but they look cool guise!" to "alright as long as I just make this one part 99.99999% accurate I can save the project!". The comedy of errors week in, week out, really brightened my day.

The new one doesn't seem that interesting yet because he's finally learned that it's probably a good idea to make a 3D design first BEFORE you start wasting thousands of dollars in materials and hundreds of hours manufacturing shit that doesn't work and could never work, but he still seems just as adverse to sensible solutions. I hope he just gets a burst of "inspiration" and starts burning money, but it's equally likely he just realises he isn't equipped mentally to create the thing he wants to build and gives up in the design phase. Either outcome should be fun, but I guess there's a tiny chance he stops being delusional and hires competent people instead of yes men and builds something that actually works. Given his ego, it's a very tiny chance though.

His whole concept for the MMX2 was live stage performances. First, he thinks he has enough widespread appeal to sell out venues worldwide because he had one viral video once. He did do some of it in CAD, I can't remember if he started with it and then got some "inspiration" so he started welding together the frame, or the other way around. Towards the end of it he had a "great" idea of having his autistic community do the CAD work for him for all the countless parts he'd made by eyeballing it, using the videos as reference and maybe messaging him to put some calipers on a part when they couldn't work out the dimensions.

No, the machine came from the exploited labour of others, then was transferred to another industry. It's a self-reinforcing cycle of workers being induced to participate in the exploitation of other workers.

Gg comrade. Surely the workers will rise up and support your right to not do anything productive and be a piece of shit

Yeah the guy is a typical grifter. His standards were simultaneously too high and too low on the second machine. Made retarded design decisions only to undo them then do another retarded idea. It became far worse when he started the discord. Discord autism made his standards get far too high, refused to settle on a design for 5 minutes or test many designs, then became so autistic he scrapped it and now is trying to make a physical synthesizer.

My old man taught me to rip the guard off an angle grinder and chuck it right into the scrap bin. He also bought a shit ton of 7" grinder wheels at an army surplus auction which we ran on 5" grinders. Would also wear down 14" abrasive chop saw blades and then finish using them on the angle grinder. Based old man...

"Voluntary" is doing a lot of work here.

If you have a choice between death by fire and death by water, and you choose water, was that voluntary? Does that make it okay? Are you not still a victim regardless of your participation in the system of domination surrounding you, both prisoner and guard?

But, you probably can't answer that. Perhaps you actually bought into the SWEAT stuff like a perfect little cog, or you just have a deep fear of understanding that your sense of security and control are illusions, or... whatever, it hardly matters, because you don't think that you matter.

I don't even know what point you're trying to make other than "capitalism bad" but you're not really explaining where the machinery and tools would come from otherwise. Maybe fall from the sky where there's no "exploited labor" to speak of, I guess?

Like in communist russia?
You can take you material dialectics and freestyle semantics and shove it up your ass. I would rather have the shit choices of capitalism than the shit choices of the dictatorship of the proletariat, at least capitalism is corrupted by greed and my gaoler doesn't think he's on the people's divine side when he's told to fuck my life.

>Is it just the curse of popularity?

the algorithium rewards you for making certain kinds of content. those rewards become poison, and force you to follow particular trends. The unthinking machine algorithium doesnt just effect what you watch, but it also influences 'creators' to make stuff that caters to it. Flat earth is a great example of this effect. Nobody believed in flat earth until 2014-2016ish, but then google algorithium heavily favored that kind of shit and now its a whole fucking movement with diehard believers. Google wanted you to not notice real stuff, so they tricked people into noticing fake stuff, and now theres so much fake stuff people think its real and take it seriously.
>>
>>2554859

You're fucking insane. Stupid content trends because the world is full of stupid people. There's lots of decent content, and it's not because of the algorithium, whatever the fuck that is.

>complaining that his wifi is killing him and how he's grounding his bed by sticking coppers into the ground terminal of his electrical sockets like pic related.
Holy kek
I was never an avid viewer but swore him off after his videos turned to shit 2-3 years ago.

I cant believe he has went THAT crazy.
Usually something prompts it, is he faking for views? Looking to get the crazy people views now?

People start with the grounding stuff, and then slowly move into the radio waves controlling my mind, into the "im being gangstalked"
Its pretty common.

Check out this dude who has a thread on WSG who thinks the government zaps him with radio frequencies to hurt and control him.
Its a bit unsettling, but its the same exact path that Wrangler Barn the scammer is going down

a...are you saying you believe algorithms are a conspiracy theory? That an entire field of tech doesnt exist? that the massive, widely reported on abuse of algorithiums during the 2016 election is something i made up in my head? That big data and survilence capitalism is a schizofrenic fever dream I imagined!?

You geninuly believe that the front page of a website like youtube, that the things recommended to you, are based on some kind of democratic, unadulterated metric nobody can change or influence

YOU THINK THIS IS FUCKING ORGANIC ACCORDING TO GOOGLES OWN METRICS?

There was a brief period early on when youtube and google video search were largely ranked by popularity/views.

The top of the charts was always a mix of cute/silly/funny videos like "baby panda sneezes" and hardcore redpill antisemitic content about how the government is part of a globalist agenda run by long nosed bankers. Needless to say, ranking videos by popularity didn't last long

I can't understand why everything has to be so filthy and why everything is laid on the dirt floors. Doesn't matter with a lot of things but sometimes i see them disassembling a gearbox or something and they just spread it on the ground. Then they barely clean the parts before reassembling. Because that is what i want to have lubricating my gears; CLAY, METAL SHAVINGS, AND PAJEET DROPPINGS
Although i guess it might not matter since the replacement gear was probably made out of a fishing vessel from 1929

I'm going to guess billions.
