The only people who hold onto things forever are unironically poorfaggots.
The only reason people bitch about "consoomers" is because they cant afford to buy all the things they actually want.
>>
>>2407024
No, you turbofaggot. Engines require maintenance. You change the parts that need changing and it lasts for a very long time. Or you embrace being a pathetic manchild that can barely figure out how to get his waste out of his home. How the fuck are you even on this board?
>>
>>2407071
lol
You are making my point for me anon.
Look at you getting all up in arms about a basic bitch ~15 year old Lawn Boy.

You are acting like they threw out a one year old Honda mower because they didnt winterize it, when in reality its an old shitty big box store mower that wasnt very good the day it was made.
And the sort of people who pride themselves on rummaging through the trash to pick up said mowers are unironically poorfaggots.

I mean hey, you can be proud of all sorts of stuff.
Im sure still driving that 1991 explorer is a badge of honor based upon your mechanical prowess, and not the fact you cant afford anything else.

>How the fuck are you even on this board?
This board is /diy/, not /poorfaggot/

There are 2 distinct types of people here.
Those who build things because its a fun hobby (a quite expensive one at that)
And those who are utterly poor NEETs who /diy/ because they unironically couldnt afford for someone to fix a problem on their trailer even if they wanted to call a pro.

Its not hard to figure out who is who, especially when salivating over something like that lawnboy
>>
>>2407085
You would fit in great in California.
>>
>>2407024
>The only people who hold onto things forever are unironically poorfaggots.
>>2407085

I fixed shit like that for rental machines where i can get a pro to do it for free. It takes close to zero effort.

I'm kind of seeing it as a duty of fixing other peoples mistakes. They buy garbage and throw it away for mundane reasons. Using their trash until it's absolutely done for is the only option to at least kind of offset their dumb consumerism and pure waste of resources.

I aspire to have enough money some day so i can actually buy or make things that don't need to be replaced in at least my life again, if possible for the next generations.

People mindlessly consuming and "buy all the things they want" disgust me. For most people and most things "want" means some marketing team tells them to give money to corporations. People have so much useless shit in their garages and basements. I had roommates with boxes full of kitchen appliances we had to carry in while moving and i have never seen them used in years. The boxes weren't even opened. I don't even care that much for the environment but that is just retarded. I want a more efficient society and i want people to be less mind controlled.

>>2407108
This.
>>
>>2407108

>>2407185
Sounds like a lot of cope to me.
You are on a philosophical journey by pulling consumer goods out of the trash to use them, while on the other hand admitting you don’t have lots of disposable cash?
Kek, talk about some greenpeace tree hugging hippy California shit right there.
>>
>>2407203
Making good stuff yourself is the most expensive option in most cases. I know very few people with that kind of money laying around. Not having to work anymore definitely has priority.

California is probably as anti tree hugging as it gets. A lot of fake hippie ideas where people can make a profit of people who want to feel good but still live as wasteful as possible at the same time. Like buying a new Tesla every few years or some super expensive custom carbon fiber bike which takes so much effort to manufacture and market that you need to drive it 7 million miles to even out with a standard Diesel from 1997. But riding a bike is "carbon neutral" of course. The best thing BY FAR still is to use shit already in existence and it will stay that way for at least a few decades.

That's 3 distinct types. Some of us are capable lifelong professionals who do better work than the tards who claim to be mechanics etc and typically began because we're tired of their shit. We fix, upgrade and maintain nearly everything we own to get immediate, quality results impractical to obtain otherwise.

When you get on our level DIY transcends "hobby" and job skills to become a unified way of life that incidentally saves so much money it's a wallet force multiplier no matter your income. At that level it's also inherent disaster prep which costs little extra because we're already geared up.

DIY beastery slashes life costs, is insanely convenient, and enhances the granular control we prefer. Instead of new vehicles I easily keep beater work trucks on the road for twenty years or more (trucks are for hauling not posing) then spend the discretionary income that frees on my vintage motorcycle collection and machine shop. The shop paid for itself surprisingly quickly and I can make any part I wish. DIY home renovation saved gobs of money which helped pay off my mortgage. I could buy a new dually for cash because I would never buy a new dually for cash.

I retired in my forties with trivial overhead and owe that freedom to DIY.

they hated him because he told the truth.

I love trash pickups just to save a few bucks and keep stuff out of the landfill. However, that guy's getting all worked about about some old ass mower but if the previous owner can't figure out a pull cord then he probably did minimal/reactive maintenance on the thing for 10 years and it's going to be 10x the time to get it working good again. People are stupid. The pull cord could've ripped because the blade is embedded in the side of the deck because he hit a fuck huge root or something. finding a great pick up is like winning the lotto but most stuff thrown out or going cheap is legitimately trash. It's about the thrill of the chase. But yea, if you're poor, your time is cheap. If had the money to park a car on the curb and buy a new one every 3 years; I would.

I'm working on rebuilding lawn tractors and really getting into the weeds with home car repair because the economy is so shit and i can't afford anything anymore not because i'm sooooo smart and loooooove the environment. I'm fucking getting poorer every decade. Everything else is cope
>>
