this was a company laptop that was in a car driven by an employee. The laptop was smashed when a depressed mexican decided to commit suicide by driving head on in to the car of the employee it was assigned to.

he failed to think his cunning plan through though as his air bag deployed and he survived.

The woman in the car he hit was killed instantly (and violently) she had children.

I wish I had a picture of a job done by a US West contractor many many years ago.

We requested 12 dial up lines to be installed near the demark. All the guy had to do was come in terminate on the punch down blocks and leave. I would have taken care of the rest.

This guy ran the wires down inside the wire then installed 6 dual gang phone RJ11 sockets in the wall at random location and not a single one was level or even in line with it's neighbor.

I call US-West and they send out a supervisor. She comes out and in front of me and my boss looks at it and with a total deadpan expression says.
>I don't see a problem.
WTF.jpg

My boss escalates because they damaged the wall and her manager comes out walks around the corner, looks at it and says.
>well take care of it.
looks at the supervisor and says
>a word outside please.
they went off and only he came back.

If you find that scary you're probably not cut out for IT. It's just rote crimping. Crimp all one side, crimp one cable on the other side and plug them all into a switch. There's probably only around 20 cables cut there, I could probably fix it in under 2 hours and I'm slow as fuck.

>>2097250
This looks better than some of the places I've seen. At least they have labelled patch panels instead of cables coming out of the wall directly plugged into switches with giant coils of excess surrounding the rack so that you can't even stand beside it.
>>
>>2097925
I strongly suspect someone was cutting something else and overcut into the wires.
>>
>>2099717
>It's just rote crimping.
Then you have to figure out which cable goes to where.
>>
>>2099720
I was going to agree with you, and then I thought of a cheap trick - there are most likely length and other markers on the cable and there's a good chance they don't all line up perfectly. You can probably estimate which end goes to which pretty easily by the markings.
>>
>>2096692
Impressive. Very nice.
>>
>>2099720
>>2099724

That's actually the easy part, you just note which computers broke when the cables are unplugged, then plug them in and note all their IPs. Then run a constant ping on an IP and unplug network cables from the switch until the ping dies. Then do that 20 more times.
>>
>>2097306
Was this in a hospital? The only time I've seen someone else spec this cable in purple was at a hospital.
>>
>>
>>2099728
You are assuming those cables feed into computers, not some wall plug that may or may not be used at some point. And that the other end of the cables go to the same switch and not some mission critical piece of equipment that no one is going to notice is down for a few weeks.

There's a reason why people spend a long time combing and tying up large bundles of cables.
>>
>>2099758

You can make up any scenario about where and what 20 or so ethernet cables go to, but generally in a giant batch of twist tied cables they are going to go in the same direction and you can make a logical assumption about what part of the building they are feeding. Majority of the time it will just be devices connected directly to the network that only need a connection to a main switch to work. The first thing after getting the cables reconnected is to ask the employees to all to go around and test that the most important shit works. If you still can't account for a few missing cables you breakout a cable toner and do a bit more work. The point I'm making it it's a relatively easy fix when only 20 cables are cut.
>>
>>2099787
>you can make a logical assumption about what part of the building they are feeding
fair enough

>>2096692

That was from a fun thread about a year ago. Dude found a dead hummingbird and designed to encase it's rotting, non-preserved carcass in epoxy to give to some friends as a housewarming gift or something like that. The consensus was that the thing would putrefy in there and turn to goo before gas pressure finally cracked the epoxy.
>>
>>2099717
>i dont understand why pairs are twisted
>>
>>2099717
>putting some random fucking switch in a wire tray
what the fuck over.
No, if you absolutely cannot pull new cable, take back all damaged cables as far as you can go, ideally to a wall or something, and terminate them onto a patch panel, then run new lines between. Only stupid niggers crimp on ends and use couplers or try to re-splice them in the tray.
>>
>>2100136
I understand why they are twisted but I don't understand what that has to do with anything I posted. Maybe if you actually formed a sentence instead of greentexting like a stupid faggot you'd make sense.

>>2100270
It's not meant as a permanent solution, it's meant to get the business going again as quickly as possible which is all the people there are going to give a shit about. If they want to re-run the cables after things are working again I don't give a fuck because I'm not going to be doing it, that's why people like you exist.
