Is there any way to make my own. Maybe from a 4x4 ATV or something else.Is there any benefit to sitting on a mower than pushing itAre ride on mowers really worth it anyway or should I strap 2 normal mowers together?
How much do you have to mow?
>>1627871You can find a not-too-fucked-up riding mower on craigslist or something for around $100. I did.
>Is there any way to make my own. Maybe from a 4x4 ATV or something else.Stupid and unsafe, you won't be able to turn off the blades unless you stop the atv and then go shut the mowers off. A lot of mad shit can happen in that time. Plus turning will carve out trenches for sure and the middle of the two mowers won't get cut.>>1627871>Is there any benefit to sitting on a mower than pushing itYeah idiot, it's called "not walking".>Are ride on mowers really worth it anyway or should I strap 2 normal mowers together?>Should I buy two decent mowers for $600 and an atv and spend weeks adjusting a niggerrig that will never work right instead of getting a rider on Craigslist for $500-800?
>>1627879You never answered the last questions
>>1627886did you miss the "stupid and unsafe" part? that applies to about everything moron OP wants to do in his bait thread.
Pull-behind gang reel mowers exist
>>1627892I hope they have auto-cutoff switches connected to the main mower.
>>1627909Cheap reel mowers from China do not have the safety cutoff. Buy from that finland place if you value your toes
>>1627909more like this, real mowers actually do an excellent job on smooth ground and nice sharp blades, thats why you still see them used at places like golf courses that need perfectly smooth grass.
>>1628406Are these non motorized? How sharp are they/effective compared to horizontal spining mowersI never used and old fashioned ones which look like this>>1628408No you cant...
>>1628443>Are these non motorized?the reels are geared to the rotation of the wheels, they stop moving when the wheels stop moving.>How sharp are they/effective compared to horizontal spinning mowersyou can sharpen them by hand with a file or grinder and they have a huge cutting surface compared to standard mower blades so they dont need sharpening as often.old school mowers all used reels, gas mowers popularized rotating blades because its easier to power them with a vertical shaft coming down from the engine and a fully enclosed blade deck is safer for residential use with a big spinning death blade right in front of your feet at 2000rpm.you still see hydraulic powered reels used on high end ($30k+) commercial mowers at golf courses because they do a better job cutting close on perfectly flat terrain.
>>1628476>you can sharpen them by hand with a file or grinderunless you have some sort of precise machine you will ruin a reel mower if you use a file or a grinder. the ones I am familiar with recommend that you disassemble the drive mechanism and re-assemble so that the reel turns backwards, and then you apply valve grinding compound and push the mower on a smooth (non-grassy) surface to lap the cutting edges perfectly to the other piece.
>>1628476They look like a good solution.. didnt know much about reels at all, thanksI looked them up and they are quite expensive.. even for old fashioned ones. Seems the cutting depth might be an issue to adjust. Definitely interesting but seem very focused of wide distance and no shaped gardens. What I cant figure out overall is..is a sit on mower better than a good self driven one. Is the seat thing a gimmick.
>>1627871Find a junk ass mower deck. Fix it. Mount a motor to it. Find a cheap electric wheelchair, 4 wheeler, etc... and just pull it around
>>1627879Kek. You could run a remote kill switch or actuator for a clutch bubut you are right. I ruined a 300 doller push mpwer dragging it around.Troy built piece of shit anyway
>>1628443Yes faggot you can Litterally just go to the scrap yard and pay to dig out a handful of mowers and drag them to some old mans house with a yard full of mowers. I mow with a 20 dollar mower. 40 dollar new carb and nattery and its lasted 3 years
>>1628484>is a sit on mower better than a good self driven oneyou mean a riding mower? if you have a large enough area to cut (1-2 acres+) riding mowers are the only reasonable option, using a walk behind mower to cut that much grass with a 21" blade is just a waste of time and energy.
Break your piggy bank and buy a Walker. Then make money back by mowing neighbors lawns for cash. You'll want to anyway because they're fucking fun to ride
