I got some criticism about Ongezellig, which should be addressed, when the show hopefully transitions from the pilot to a proper episodic show. 1. Why is Maya socially anxious, when she‘s alone with her own sisters, who she grew up with? Even extreme Introverts have no trouble hanging out with their family and close friends. She is afraid of Coco like she is a popular Stacy, she has never met before. 2. Mymy asking Maya who she hangs out with and who her friends are, feels more appropriate for a Maya, who goes to a completely different school and gets visited by Mymy for the first time in months, who is genuinely curious. 3. I understand why Massa did what he did. He wanted to clearly characterize Maya as anxious and depressed and in many ways Coco as her complete opposite, but sooner or later he would have to retcon how he portrayed the three sister in the pilot, because it feels like they barely interacted with each other before. 4. Coco is my favorite character, but it’s interesting how some anons interpret her actions and behavior. I have seen her described as autistic, because of her extreme lack of social awareness, which gets contrasted with her social intelligence in deel 4-6, where she involves Maya in the group, shields her from Mymy‘s prodding and admits she knows she doesn’t have friends and doesn’t want her to be lonely. I think stuff like her showing tentacle porn to class is just her innocence, ditziness (which might just be an act) and computer illiteracy dialed up to an extreme for a joke. I don’t think Massa genuinely intends her to be autistic or whatever. I think just more slice-of-life episodes would help with that. And maybe he should make sure the jokes aren’t too out-of-character. Except with Mymy, she can do whatever she wants. Just a note, I think it’s interesting how Coco broke more laws of physics than the dedicated joke character in the show. That’s a funny detail.

Massa is a huge perfectionist and has stated he has entertained the idea of redoing Deels 1-3. That might present an opportunity to redo some scenes and such to help with congruency. I am responsible for the Ongezellig threads being more lively, because my posts are always interesting, sometimes divisive, sparking active discussion. Criticizing media instead of just being a reddit-tier consumer approving of anything in the end is better for discussion. Like when discussing Coco‘s apparent shift in character for example. Or Maya‘s personality being too one-note to be interesting, if nothing is done about her. But yeah, I very much doubt that Massa has anything planned for the show.
