Who's your favorite obscure x-men character?
Is Legion still considered 'obscure' after multiple solo titles now and his own TV show?
>>133134844I don't like the X-Men.
>>133134844I've always liked Armor's appearance in the anime version.
>>133134844does marrow count? the last time I saw her I think she was repowered somehow
>>133135573I think so...
>>133134844I don't like the xmen anymore
Pixie might be too mainstream, so I'll go with Nocturne
>>133134844Huh most of my favorites are pretty vanilla, but obscure i guess i really like mercury? Does she count?I think she was pretty good in new x-men.
I just think she's neat.
>>133136620I didn't know he was obscure
>>133134844I'm afraid to say because I think that writer will read this and ruin that character.
>>133136733I’d sure like to have sexual intercourse with her, if you know what I’m saying.
>>133136733Dust is cool too. Honestly the whole new x-men generation was pretty sick.
>>133136769There was a pretty good porn drawing of her.
>>133136891That’s fucking hot.
>>133134895Man, her ass is pretty chunky
>>133136891Now I wanna see her rival from the Brotherhood of Mutants.
>>133134844Loa is the coolest character who barely gets any use. She's got a good design, cool power, nice personality and managed to get tied into Namor's area in a sensible way. She's great whenever she shows up but that tends to be rare and done with no real plans. She would've been a better addition to Avengers Academy than Laura if that book lasted longer. Last time she showed up Ewing or one of the other interchangeable Brits made her bisexual and dating Mercury out of nowhere.
>>133134844That one guy whose power is everyone forgets him when he's out of line of sight. Ironically enough I don't remember his name.
>>133136733Her being roommates with Laura during her edgy slut phase was pretty fun.
>>133137714He's Spurrier's pet character and gets used in every X-Men story he writes, including Legion of X. He should've been a one off.
>>133137740Tag had a nice personality of being a total bro who was content to be the guy who helped his friends achieve their dreams rather than a major player. Plus he's got a decently useful power like the House of M arc where he mad Laurie's father want to run away from himself which led to him throwing himself from a high-rise window.
>>133137073>Cafe Zorro>Pees Hot Coffee, and he feels it, everytime.
>>133136959Who's the girl in the mask?
>>133134895That's just Hinata
>>133137714>he’s just like me
>>133136713I like Mercury a lot, and I'm convinced she could easily become a popular B-lister if they actually did something with her.She has a striking appearance and unique powers that a creative writer could develop in countless ways.
>>133134844Surge is peak 2000 American perception of anime
>>133137492That Utopia era Namor series was pretty good, shame it got canceled so fast
Love me some Elixir and was sad that his stint in the Brotherhood was cancelled before it really started for Krakoa.
>>133134866Yes, because I am at best aware he exists, and something something bunch of powers or whatever and multiple personalities and who gives a shit. The only thing I think I know he's done is be Xavier's son and get locked up because he was a danger to everyone in the 90's X-men cartoon. What the fuck does legion bring to the table beyond being another obscure mutant without a good story to their name?
>>133139501Legion had an acclaimed 24 issue series not too long ago
>>133139559Ok, but I didn't hear about it. Didn't even see enough to put it on my radar. So what, acclaimed for comics? What even happened? I mean I didn't read much of immortal hulk either, but I at least got the gist of it that the hulks were all going weird monster mode and the gamma folks are all basically immortal which doesn't mean much because everyone is these days. The only legion thing I'm even aware of was the netflix(?) show, and that got written off as another probably low budget attempt to bring some c-lister in to the lime light like maybe they'll stumble onto the next Iron Man.
>>133139737>I don’t read comics
>>133139767Yeah, that's the point. I read comics I find interesting, and am tangentially aware of general happenings based on how much people want to praise or shit on some book or other. Legion never comes up. Sorry your favorite corner of x-men mythos barely registers on the public zeitgeist? Hell, look at this right here. I'm the only person who gave enough of a shit to even respond to you.
>>133139998You realize the entire point of this thread is to talk about obscure xmen characters you like right?
>>133137740Tag is the most boring of the lot, but there's nothing particularly bad about him either. Biggest issue is having no real internal motivation.>>133137755Well more like edgy socially stunted Laura (which is really when Laura stood out).>>133138900She also was something of a nice chilling precense both in the hellions and new x-men and you couldnt help but feel bad for her a lot of the time. Despite everything her being a cheery girl was very nice.To be honest i feel that most of that generation could have been more popular, but i feel the utopia stuff and the pushing of generation hope (anyone even like those?) kneecapped them hard.
>>133139998>Legion never comes up. Sorry your favorite corner of x-men mythos barely registers on the public zeitgeistso you don't look things up? you only follow surface level pop culture?
>>133139737>he doesn't have a good story>actually he does>well I didn't know aboutit with my surface level pop culture awareness, so it doesn't count
>>133141214But legion did appear in evo and he got a full show to himself. He's hardly obscure.
>>133141292Laura's one of my favorites...but she's hardly obscure. Her teammates from new x-men do qualify far more desu.
Sad thing is that most of those Academy X character won't get to do much because they aren't as iconic as older student characters like the new mutants or generation X, and they aren't the youngest batch anymore because of Bendis and Aaron post AvX OCs
>>133141788Well it did take a while before the generation x characters got used more so who knows in the future.
>>133136733She's just sandman but a girl
>>133142616Is she obscure? She does get used a fair bit, the most out of her generation (discounting laura ofc).
>>133142641She's mostly just a secondary mass-teleporter when Nightcrawler's unavailable.
>>133142653Well true, but that does put her a step avobe a lot of other x-characters sadly. She also fills a lot of the same niches magik does.
Cecilia reyes, most underrated female character of the x-men... at least she has become the supporting character with most appearences in the Krakoa era
>>133139460I found the fact that he started as a reaver intresting.
Emma really dropped the ball with these poor kids. If I remember correctly, she even threatened one or two of them.
>>133143814Only Laura cause she felt she was too dangerous to have around.
>>133143855Didn't she treat the poor kid who kills everything he touches really badly too?
>>133143880Well she at first treated him better than dani did, but then he left after the lauirie thing and selene groomed him.
>>133143895She also pushed out that native American lady teacher even though all the students loved because she lost her mutant powers. Why was Emma allowed anywhere near these kids again?
>>133143934She pushed out Dani and the depowered students because she thought they'd be safer away from the school. They could pass as humans and the school was about to become a giant target for everyone who wants to exterminate mutants
>>133143771>Joins up with reavers just because his friend is a reaver>Join up with the misfits just because they'll accept him>Turns himself gold just to feel special>Family completely disowns him and Dani has to adopt him so he has a legal guardianHe had all the misery hallmarks of mutants being outsiders that people meme about
>>133134844Pixieeven in her bimbo phase
>what's your favourite obscure x-men character>entire fem cast of new x-men posted within 20 postswe've been done dirty, brothers...
>>133143814>she even threatened one or two of them.she threatened hellion for being too much of a wild card iirc.hellion sorta became her protege later', but she dropped him after he went postal on sentinel x>>133143880no, he got literally executed after selene... basically got him to kill for sex.>>133143736woefully underused>>133142641pixie (my wife) hasn't had a lead sole since the greg land era.
>>133143934As >>133144033 said with dani it was since she didnt have powers and she'd be in danger. Do think its funny that its emma's hellions (mercury, dust and hellion) that are the ones that grow close to laura who emma doesnt want around. Irony or something.>>133144191Hey i like the dudes from new x-men too. Hellion, Rockslide and Anole are all pretty fun characters.>>133144316True, i suppose.
>>133136734no movie appearances is basically obscure
>>133144418Wrongslide and the fact that Anole has done nothing about his best friend getting killed still annoys me.
>>133144123Yeah it is funny. Defintely one of my favorites.
>>133144435Right they killed Rockslide. Honestly most of the characters from that generation are consitently either done dirty, or they ignore their dynamics with their age-mates.
>>133144435>Anole has done nothing about his best friend getting killed still annoys me.oh nonono you CANT force writers to read comics that are over 10 years old! they NEED to spend all their time shitposting on twitter.
>>133144598Xorn pre magneto reveal was geniunly really good
>>133144191Except for windancer and wallflower. Guess no one cares about those two.
>>133144576I'll stick with reading Mackay books and having organizations referenced once a decade ago be the antagonists of major arcs.
>>133144877>reading Mackay books and having organizations referenced once a decade ago be the antagonists of major arcs.one died early, the other, no idea
Tempus. She hasn't appeared ever since, did she?
>>133144932She's one of the five m8
>>133144917Nah i know windancer was used in that new warriors thing, just saying those two are the only ones not mentioned here.
>>133144951I don't know what that means, this entire current continuity of X-men is annoyingly stupid and I'm skipping it until they retcon them back to a school who occasionally fights Juggernaut or Magneto on his space station while he is giving a speech about how THE HUMAN ERA IS OVER, THE MUTANT ERA HAS COME.
>>133145001She's one of the ones responsible for bringing all the dead muties back
>>133145001>I don't know what that meansthey are the reason mutants are coming back to life, literally at the center of the krakoa timeline.
>>133134844This soft good boy.
>>133145084I wonder if x force is gonna have an arc about wade realizing they are not bringing him back
>>133145128I miss remender's wade.
>>133136891>tfw rule 34's "no exceptions" is the biggest lie on the internet and we'll never get porn of Soft Serve pooping on Eye-Scream
>>133145067Can we not talk about this shit? Some of us are pretending the timeline isn't real.
>>133145200Be the change you want to see in this world
>>133145128Wade is getting kicked off the island for his new run don't know if it applies to X-Force as well.
>>133134844Wish surge had more porn.
>>133145256I understand, but the had me the second they announced New Mutants.
>>133134844Transonic, Maggott, Teon, Dr Cecilia Reyes if she would actually do something, Dark Beast, M/Penance, Douglock, Danger, and that one guy that looked like a roly poly. had armor like an isopod but i forget his name or what comic he's in, but pic related is from the comic he's inalso, OP's character looks like the front of an Eve 6 album, and i wouldn't doubt that's what inspired the character
>>133146986pic also related
>>133142653You now remember that time they tried to push Pixie up to the main X-Men book as the main teleporter, and even killed Nightcrawler.
>>133136959What was that for!?
>>133144033>>133144418That's a very charitable take on how Dani got pushed out after Decimation, the actual story was absolutely Emma taking advantage of the situation to force a rival out, it wasn't done out of concern for her safefy.
>>133147162Hmm, i did get the impression that it was done a bit out of concern, but its not as if she doesnt have bad blood with dani.
>>133138900Unique powers? She's a T-1000.
>>133147162The whole reason she wanted Kitty and Dani around in the first place was to a) torture them and prove herself better than them, but also b) to have someone who didn't like or trust her who would push against her and protect the students from her worst impulses
>>133145084He's still banned from the island for being a clone, right?Fuck man, he's still on the run from Axis isn't he?
>>133148512he died in an age of x-men mini
>>133148512>>133148969He wasn't banned from the island itselfThere's just a rule about Resurrection where they don't want 2 of the same person running around at the same time so they need to confirm death before bringing someone backAnd the Quiet Council felt that applied to clones like Evan, Madelyne Pryor and Honey Badger. But Hope Summers and the Five overruled them and decided that the lived experiences of these clones made them individuals who should be resurrectedGabby and Maddie have both been rezzed but we haven't see Evan yet
>>133149135Fuckin' Krakoa pricks. Oh yeah let's rez Apocalypse but not his cooler clone. That makes sense. Fuckin' Muties.
>>133149135>Gabby and Maddie have both been rezzed but we haven't see Evan yetThey haven't brought Joseph back either.
>>133149293well if Magneto doesn't want to come back anymore
>>133149293Jospeh was gonna be my pick. They keep trying to "rehabilitate" Magneto but forgot they already did it and did it right 25 years ago
>>133142641She's not obscure but she's not a huge name, she's like a C-level character. A lot of that is because she got used a LOT during the Messiah/Utopia era being part of Uncanny, showing up in that terrible Destiny game, cast member in NXM, was on the adjectiveless team I think at one point, and had her own miniseries. I suspect that Alonso had a boner for her because her time of biggest use came when he was X-Men editor and her appearances started to drop off after he became EiC and was replaced by Lowe.
It's always fun when a writer has one or two weird/obscure characters that they just really like for whatever reason. Remember Carey taking every opportunity he could to use Trance in his books? Given the popularity of JJBA I'm honestly surprised nobody bothers to use her more given her power basically amounts ot having a Stand.>>133144877Wallflower was my favorite character from that group and her getting her head blown off completely killed any good will I might have tried to give the Yost/Kyle run.>>133147162Yost/Kyle New X-Men is such a garbage series. They really just wanted to make it as dark as possible and that involved a lot of characters acting like assholes, pointless deaths, etc. It wound up completely ruining them because they basically just got seen as expendable failures.
>>133145001The Five are in charge of resurrection. What it means in practice is that they're characters who the writers don't actually have any idea what to do with but are also too powerful not to be accounted for, so the solution is to just make them living props to explain the resurrections/clones.
>>133149575It's worse than that, they brought Joseph back twice in the 2010s, as a villain. Kwannon just cut his head off in the run before Hickman.
>>133149759>Given the popularity of JJBA I'm honestly surprised nobody bothers to use her more given her power basically amounts ot having a Stand. It feels like most writers are incapable of doing any superpower that isn't punching, kicking or blasting energy out of your hands.
>>133134844none i don't like diviants
>>133149919Fuck I didn't know that. He was my favorite from that era.How about Maggot, did he get dicked over too?
>>133149893Fun fact she almost got to star in a defenders book but nobody wanted to pick up Bunn's pitch for it and then it got the boot for the AvX status quo change, he even used the team he wanted for the book in his Fear Itself Tie-In.
>>133150806An image of the team would be relevant.
>>133146844she was 15 during that arc...
>>133146986ei maggott god an issue this year>douglocksome characters are best forgotten.
>>133151034I didnt know, just saw the fanart.
>>133150155>How about Maggot, did he get dicked over too?Killed in a Weapon X death camp in the 2000s. I think he came back in the 2010s just because Bendis didn't know he was dead.>>133151047Douglock was better than Doug
>>133151047>one issuein the middle of krakoa bullshit. not much
Zero, he deserved better than what the X-Men gave him, and died mostly in the right objecting to literal mind control by another fucking red haired super-powered mutant.
>>133152205Boring ass edgelord>Woah! The guy who called himself Judas and is a misanthrope betrayed us?!
>>133150806Bunn is a mediocre writer but I did like that he would actually try and use different characters instead of the same old shit. I mean Hippolyta is a pretty deep cut.
>>133136769No, I don’t understand. What does he mean by this.
>>133137714>>133141724This, as deliberately obscure X-Men go he's pretty neat. Also I find it funny that aside from his power he's literally just a regular balding, pot-bellied 30-something in an X-Men jacket
>>133152205Oh look, a Tetsuo clone
>>133135719Why's her head so small? Jollyjack school of character design?
>>133137762If he were a martial artist he'd be totally badass.
>>133149782The lynchpin of the resurrection process is Goldballs. Who is only there because they retconned his power into menstruating on command.
>>133138900Marvel doesn't like shapeshifters as superheroes for some reason. Elastic like Reed Richards, they're fine with, but full-blown shapeshifters are almost exclusively villains. I mean, Kamala Khan started as a shapeshifter on the level of Plastic Man (but not as broken), but then got nerfed hard within her first year into her BIG HANDS meme.
>>133155768They seem to love symbiotes, though, so maybe she could get a gig in a Venom book.
>>133155662He's the real exception but the others are Hope, Proteus, Tempus and Elixir so my point still stands.>>133155768The funny part of that is that Wilson hade her as a shapeshifter because she wanted to show that a character like that didn't need to be pigeonholed into being a villain, then quickly decided that it was a villain's power and dropped it.
i love darwin. a shame they don't really do anything with him
>>133157764I'm wondering if it was fully Wilson's decision to nerf Kamala, since Marvel in general still tries to downplay and remove her shapeshifting as much as possible.
Remember Venus Dee Milo? Or any of the X-Statix mutants?
>>133149592Fair enough.>>133149759First time i saw someone say that about wallflower. And while i do really like the yost/kyle run yeah that was pretty shitty to wallfower in particular.
>>133149759>They really just wanted to make it as dark as possible and that involved a lot of characters acting like assholes, pointless deaths, etcthat's just the entirety of 2005-2009 x men
>>133158800>basically persona non-grata in anything X-Statix since the end of the original series>Zeitgeist tries to bring her back but it'll take years in-universe for that to happen>U-Go Girl, who she replaced, is brought up constantly and now her daughter is part of X-StatixAlso, X-Cellent is kind of shit honestly. The same spark just isn't there.
>>133152205To be fair, his solution was "I GET TO MIND CONTROL EVERYONE!" unless I'm misremembering. Also he gave No-Girl a banging Geiger body
>>133158800Pretty sure they only use Doop consitently.
>>133159648>First time i saw someone say that about wallflower.Laurie I think is kind of the core character of the DeFillipis/Weir run. Her general character and her relationship drama I feel basically best represent what the book was about. Also, her father was intended to be the big villain of the series prior to House of M and the writers getting booted.
>>133159881Eh, the Defilips/Weir run constantly was changing focus and Laurie herself mostly had the elixir thing in the book itself. Yeah there was the set up with her dad being not-purple-man but it wasnt something that had yet happened in the book. I also think that in general her personality and design were less memorable than the others.
>>133159946The book was primarily a teen-oriented soap opera so in that respect Laurie and Elixir's relationship best represented that. And I was reading the book and part of its fan communities when it was coming out so I know for a fact that Laurie was very popular with the people who were reading the book. Laurie's shtick of being a shy girl trying to find confidence in herself understandably hit readers well: girls could see themselves in her as the girl drawn out of her shell by the handsome golden boy. Guys could waifu her because she's the cute, shy girl that they can make feel confident.Admittedly, since I'm a guy and was in high school at the time, I fell into the "she's my waifu" camp.
>>133159783Generation hope had fun characters.Where's Transonic, dangit.
>>133160175I more so mean that when the book started the focus seemed to be on sofia before it started to shift over to elixir (the ad for the new x-men relaunch even said josh and his friends for cying out loud). I dunno, in general it seemed like the book was wayy to subject to whatever the bigger books were doing (emma in one issue saying that the hellions are over before giving the team name hellions in the realunch).I do see what you're saying tho, just kinda struck me as rather boring actually reading it. And its some type of popularity that doesnt seem to have particularly stuck around (and by the way you're describing it seems like it would have been temporary by its nature). Most boring one was jay tho. I dont think there was a need for "angel with red wings".
