Everything points to him definitely not being ok when it's time for Anne to go. There is a resistance to change here, which is something that also played a role in the deterioration of Anne's friendship with Sasha and Marcy. The lesson Matt was trying to impart is that it's okay if you're not together, because all of the good things remain with you forever. Sprig is going to be ok. At least I think that was his intention, and something something intention something execution.
