The only thing I didn't like in here is the art. It's not "bad" it's serviceable, but I wish Cabal was here instead, or someone less... Eh, you know. But that's basically the only flaw to me, in terms of the story. However, I feel this is going to be a short crossover event, which really blows.

>>124576681It’s about the message. Hala was just attacked so he has to show that he’s there for them.
You know, for a galactic war event called Annihilation this is incredibly limp-dicked so far. Annihilation started off with Xandar and Nova Corps annihilated, Annihilation: Conquest had Hala completely under control of the Phalanx, what do we have here? Everyone just waited around until Dormammu showed up. There's no weight to the whole situation whatsoever.
>>124577753yeah, it really doesn't have the intensity of those two.
>>124577753Considering this is a smaller crossover event compared to these two (which have full omnibuses to cover), it's kinda obvious the scope wasn't going to be as big. Even as Ewing controls relatively most of cosmic, the truth is they won't give him complete control and there are no other cosmic writers right now with which he could divide some content for a miniseries.I mean, this would the perfect time to launch that one Darkhawk miniseries they mentioned months ago, tying it with this event to generate hype. Or to have Bowers & Sims work another obscure cosmic character as a tie-in the way they did with Darkhawk and Sleepwalker in Infinity Countdown/Wars. But nope, they're having Oliveira once again writing another Wiccan & Hulkling one-shot like he did in Empyre and King in Black, and Ewing himself is writing one of the one-shots of the event (Cable). It kinda feels like current writers just want to do more X-Men shit but all the places are taken so they don't even consider doing something for the cosmic side.
>>124576872does anybody even like alt phyla?
>>124569935>every single male character is shirtless and unrealistically mascularGood
>>124576872It's the shitty jacket that everyone on the team has to wearThe ponytail is cute though
>>124578077>It kinda feels like current writers just want to do more X-Men shitEwing himself is guilty of that, using GotG's pages to prop up SWORD. Honestly, at this point it feels like he doesn't have a strong enough core concept for this series, compared to Hulk or SWORD. The writing's jumping from one quippy character interaction to another with nothing in between. And even then the character writing doesn't feel solid enough to carry the comic.
>>124578680>Ewing himself is guilty of that, using GotG's pages to prop up SWORD.I don't think that's it though, since both SWORD and GOTG are interconnected and if you read the former, you'll find characters of the latter just as fine. I this case both books work together similarly to how Nova and GOTG did back in the day, and that's fine. SWORD's only crime is that it's attached to the X-Men office, and even then it's mostly separate from their overall narrative, not using it as a crutch.>Honestly, at this point it feels like he doesn't have a strong enough core concept for this series, compared to Hulk or SWORD.I'll have to disagree with that specially with the stuff that happened in the previous arc, compared to *anything* previous writers have done with the GOTG in the last decade. No, I just think the only way an event like this can work is with collaboration and expansiveness, which they clearly didn't allow here. 7 issues doesn't make an "Annihilation" event work, less so when there's only three one-shots to support it, one of them feeling ancillary by default (Wakanda). But before blaming Ewing I would blame editorial for always being all over the place with cosmic, the same shit happened when Cates was writing: Paired with his trash writing, no editor ever told him no and nobody cared to prop up any of the other minis that came out, letting "Nebula" die and barely doing anything with the Gamora mini, half-assing it all the way.
>>124578077>Oliveira once again writing another Wiccan & Hulkling one-shot like he did in Empyre and King in BlackTini Howard wrote the Wiccan and Hulkling one-shot for King in Black.
>>124578869My bad, I stand corrected It's probably because it was actually good and didn't feel like her doing
>>124577753The whole point is that the guardians are now at the peak of their power and preparation, with backing from major galactic empires. They were ready to attend the call the moment it happened. Plus we just had the attack from Knull, the Olympians, empire. There's so many times you can destroy everything to show how serious things are before things get stale. Just look at the reactions to the Green Lantern central battery getting blown up recently.
>>124578835>specially with the stuff that happened in the previous arcYou mean the "contrived way to bring Peter back with some fights along the way"? That arc? It was just as disconnected from everything else as every other arc on current GotG. I get that this is a monster-of-the-week type of book but that doesn't mean it has to shift gears every month. >But before blaming Ewing I would blame editorial for always being all over the place with cosmicMaybe so, but I feel like blaming Ewing since this is currently his weakest ongoing (Gamma Flight not withstanding since he's sharing the writing credit with a fucking tabletop writer for it).>>124579119>There's so many times you can destroy everything to show how serious things are before things get staleWell that's sadly a problem with the long-running universe as you can't continually raise the stakes. Doesn't mean you can't try, doesn't have to be a major player to get blooded.
>>124579223>You mean the "contrived way to bring Peter back with some fights along the way"? That arc? What, are you going to blame Ewing for King in Black's existence? Not his fault he was forced to tie into it. Many issues on the early run focused on specific characters and that was Peter's turn, explain me what's so "contrived" about it when it was a hard reset on the character?>I get that this is a monster-of-the-week type of book but that doesn't mean it has to shift gears every month. But it didn't? The overarching enemies were still the Olympians.
>>124574243I hate to defend Aaron, but how exactly were they "fighting each other" in the Konshu arc? Moon Knight wasn't an Avenger, the Avengers saved the world from Konshu.
