If anything, that obsessiveness is a sign you'll get really far in art. Sticking to art when the going gets tough is one of the big hurdles to get over.

I can only hope. I want to like, draw one thing for fun, then look at it and determine what fundamental study to do next. Problem is deciding what to work on when there is a thousand problems.

While I was in the middle of backing everything up, accidents happened and I ironically ended up losing 3+ years worth of unpublished sketchbooks and art files. I've been able to salvage about 10% of it from various DMs, e-mails, and uploads to /co/.

This is for me 5 years from now when the accident eventually happens again.
>>
>>124575342
Damn dude. What were you backing up to that caused this?

Also, I'm not overly familiar with your work, but I recognize you for those knight comics from Star Vs. Those were really entertaining. You have a good grip on character dynamics/interactions.

I was moving everything from an HDD to an SSD after building a new computer and re-installing Windows 10. I dragged everything over, walked away, then came back later and saw that all my video files, music, art inspiration collection, my work art folder, and etc. all got backed up. I even looked inside the folders for most of them, but I just happened to stop at the very bottom few folders that were at the end of the alphabet ("Sketchbook"), so I didn't notice they didn't fully copy over. There was no error on-screen, so from my POV, it just looked like everything copied over.

Then I was doing a deep format for the HDD because I had been using it for almost a decade and wanted to use it as a secondary back-up, but try to clean it up a bit since it's been slow as of recent. Then only halfway through the formatting process when I went back into the Sketchbook folder and saw 90% of files were missing did I realize it never copied over.

Why it didn't copy over, I can't figure out. My only guess is that after I re-installed Windows, it fucked up all the security permissions because it changed EVERY file to "Read Only" and made it so I couldn't touch them. I had to manually change all security permissions for every folder, and I must've missed it or fucked it up for the Sketchbook folder, causing it to not drag over.

It's been about a week of me trying to do hard drive recovery stuff and even sending it to a lab, so now I'll just have to get over and probably share my art online more instead of hording it for years.
>>
>>124576012
Do you also have a cloud backup? I keep everything I make both on a back-up Hard Drive and on Dropbox. It's a pain in the ass at first, but it's definitely reassuring to have a back-up for your back-up. Just in case there's volatile weather, burglary, etc.

No, unfortunately the program I use (Storyboard Pro) saves things in elements similar to After Effects. So it's very easy for a file to balloon over time if you keep drawing on the same canvas. So it's one of those things I figured I would eventually put onto a private hosted server as a back-up, but kept putting it off due to laziness and since my old computer was quite slow, I didn't want to wait for 7 hours for 25GB of oversized files to transfer over.

Now after it, I'm just start doing three back-up processes every month including external back-up and cloud back-up.

About 70% of it were sketchbook files that I probably NEVER would've finished, and I managed to recover PNGs of the incredibly important art files I needed for future career-related things. But it just sucks that a lot of that stuff is lost and I can never look at some of those sketches since I never uploaded them anywhere.

Well, it's a personal tragedy that can be chalked up as a learning experience. Those tend to be the most effective lessons. In fact, I think something similar happening to me is exactly why I'm willing to pay for Dropbox.

I don't usually make faces these simple, but I've been on a stint lately where I've fooling around with it, since it's easy to make something cute-ish.
Here's a crude sketch of a barbarian I made earlier where I tried to make the face a little more defined but still keeping some of the "softness" I like to use. Not sure if it qualifies as semi-realistic but I didn't have many examples on this new computer!

You should learn about depth, your drawing looks rather flat. You can do this through a variety of means, including lines and colours. Anatomy too, as the other anon said. Maybe try drawing less complicated figures? A superhero you like with a skintight costume is a good place to start.

Having a fetish is a double edged sword.
On one hand it's beneficial because it gives you something to draw, to practice with. I've improved volumes drawing my sick fuck little fetish.
On the other hand if you get too absorbed into it you risk losing sight of more productive things. Now if drawing fetishes is your main goal then you made it, but if it's more of a side thing instead of your "actual" stuff then try not to take precedence over your true passion project. Think about drawing your fetish as fucking a cheap whore and working on your true project as fucking your wife. Or alternatively, see fetishes as an addiction you need to keep in check like you would cigarettes or alcohol, at least that's the way I treat the matter. Identifying the problem is the first step to solving it

No probs anon, also HTF stands for Happy Tree Friends aka peak cute gore
>>

Ohhhh right! I'd forgotten it even existed, I watched it all the time when I was like 10. That and Celebrity Deathmatch, good fucking times

Looks better if you emulated the show's design

Cartoons back then we're so much better, I wanna go back dammit, or better yet, hoping that the creators today would get the hint and go back to making cartoons like they did back in the day

Character design's nice anon, gotta work on your anatomy tho, arm and hand's too small
>>
Did this recently.

Hehe well she is supposed to be somewhat of a gross obnoxious nerd so being a mood killer is in her character description.

Coloring could be less smudgy otherwise it looks good, also practice more on anatomy the lady looks off

Feels like I'm in a rut (not sure I'll ever get the hang of digital) so trying to have fun drawing.

Character concept I just drew (heavily based on on Marina from Splatoon admittingly) for a superheroine OC. Constructive critique is welcome.

Looking good anon, nice bod, face looks somewhat disconnected with the rest of the body, otherwise keep on practicing for improvement

Top tier coloring anon, really sets the mood, character design could use some work

5 keyframes at the moment. I wanna fix up these keyframes a bit before I start adding the in-betweens.

Dang, wish I can animate as smoothly as you someday, thanks for sharing~

Lol, least you tried anon

Guess I can practice drawing heads ala construction and figure drawing, at least to get the face proportions down.

Wanna get the level of ''thicc'' just right, but that requires alot of anatomy knowledge and thats scary at the moment so I just did guesswork. Thanks!

No probs anon, just glad I could help even a little bit heh, and yep it's all about practice
>>

Thanks anon. That makes me feel like wasting 80K going to school for it wasn't a COMPLETE mistake haha.

This is my /co/ related art when I am not doing stuff for /a/, /v/ or /trash/. I really need to iron out my muscle anatomy and He-man gave me the opportunity to do so. I am confident with my frontal body musculature but my back muscle anatomy needs sharpening hence the practice. Just need to clean his boots and add his body straps before I can call it finished.

I've been drawing this Porky Pig. Not sure if I wanna finish it.

I was wondering, is it okay to draw character designs while practicing fundies and anatomy things as well? I know i probably should get the basics down first since i still screw up basic things like drawing hands and other body parts. But i also love drawing fantasy or comic based ideas.
