What are /co/'s candidates for "worst South Park episode"?
I remember staying up late to see the "Chef returns" episode and Comedy Central played this instead. It wasn't until halfway through I accepted Chef wasn't coming back this episode.
>>122174426The one with the fleas is pretty shit too.
>>122174426I remember the Blockbuster Halloween episode falling flat
either Jakovasaurus or the one about women queefing
Sarcastiball was pretty shit outside of "this is cum"
>>122174426This episode was pretty weird.
>>122174803No that one was pretty fun. The point was that everyone and their mother knows cigarettes are bad for them, but since this is America people have the right to make their own choices. Rob Reiner represents smug pricks trying to conform a singular lifestyle, which is wrong.
>>122174426the Pip episode
>>122174766>Tfw everyone hates Jakovasaurus but its genuinely one of your favorites from S3
>>122174766>JakovasaurusI haven't watched the show in years. Since Gerald was the troll and walked away with no repercussions to his actions. South Park has always had this odd equilibrium of great to horrible episodes. When they are great, everyone loves them. When they are horrible people forgot about them.>Royal Pudding>Taming Strange>Mister Hankey, the Christmas Poo>City on the Edge of Forever>Prehistoric Ice Man>Stravin' Marvin in Space>Are you there God? It's Me, Jesus.
>>122174982A big part of it is that they're missing the context of Jar Jar. Most viewers are looking back on it.
>>122174426Yeah this one existed just to address a topical "controversy" that literally nobody cared about. But then again that's 95% of the show's plotlines.
>>122175425even with the context it's not funny. "Jar Jar sucks" is such a low hanging fruit it barely qualifies as a joke but Matt and Trey tried to stretch that premise into a whole ass episode.
The tobacco episode
>>122175045Every season seemed to have at least one really shitty episode. Apparently Matt and Trey will run a job that never lands into the ground and when it isn't working then the whole episode will suck because of it. Until around 2014, then it turned into only 1-2 funny episodes per season and mediocre shit for the rest.
>>122174766SCHOOL SCHOOL I LIKE SCHOOL
Sarcastaball, the Jakovasaurs, 'Stanley's Cup', 'Pip', 90% of season 20...
>>122174766>>122174982>>122175425>>122175481I somehow for a decade missed this episode and didnt know it existed and one day saw it and enjoyed its stupid ass simple premise because I was nostalgic for old southpark.
Still, as bad as the Jakovasaurs are, I have a soft spot for the game show scene with Barbrady."Damn, he's fast!"
>>122175425>>122175439Yeah I get the joke, it's just that they were not funny. And every episode has a joke that they repeat over and over and over again the entire time, it makes for a shitty episode. Like Britney's New Look, I get what they are doing, pointing at how people love it when a celebrity fucks up and self destructs, it's just not funny. And the same joke is repeated over and over again. If you don't like the one joke then the episode sucks. Like hearing the word "Shtoyle" over and over again, it wasn't funny the first time, it won't be funny the 40th time.
I don't like the Human CentiPad and Britanny Spears episodes
>>122175893>N-NANDA... NANDA KORE?!?It has its moments.
>>122174426The ones you like, of course.
>>122175893The CentiPad episode is good for Cartman's B-plot. "Mom, can you at least go across the street to KFC first? I like to at least have dinner before I get FUCKED!"The Britney episode was so bland I honestly can't remember any of it.
>>122175425It's not funny when you make it as annoying as fucking Jar Jar.The joke doesn't work when you're the same shit you're trying to make fun of
>>122175893>Human CentiPadThe Cartman plot was gold
>>122174426The entirety of season 20 since it is one gigantic episode
>>122174426In general, most of the pre-movie episodes just reek of "late 90's edgy cringe".Chinpokomon does not age well. It just comes across as Gen X writers who don't understand this new thing (Pokemon, Anime) the kids are into and that judge them as being naive and easy to manipulate.
>>122176127Counter point: Alabama Man and Wild Wacky Action Bike.
>>122174730Screw you, Bruckheimer lice were kino.
>>122176127t. gotta buy em
>>122176127More like it showed how amateur Matt and Trey were when they started. South Park was their first real gig and they were in charge of writing everything when they never wrote much at all and were kind of bad at anything other than edgy insults. The first three seasons had a lot of misfires like trying to be wacky and spontaneous and it was just bland, or when they tried to make fun of a celebrity it was someone third rate and long forgotten like Patrick Duffy or Sidney Poitier. How many middle school 90s audiences knew who either of those guys were?
>>122176328I knew Patrick Duffy because, God knows why, I watch Step By Step as a kid.
>>122174982Same. I love that episode. A big reason probably being because I watched a lot of South Park in middle school and that was the one episode that stuck out in my mind as the years went by and became an adult (along with the spelling bee episode and the rainforest one)The jakovasarus are annoying but there’s still some solid jokes in there.
>>122176127>Chinpokomon does not age well. It just comes across as Gen X writers who don't understand this new thing (Pokemon, Anime) the kids are into and that judge them as being naive and easy to manipulate. To be fair, a lot of adults had that exact same opinion of Pokémon when that episode came out.
>>122176328Well, he got relevant again when Grey’s Anatomy came on in 2005.
>>122176127>Chinpokomon does not age well. It just comes across as Gen X writers who don't understand this new thing (Pokemon, Anime) the kids are into and that judge them as being naive and easy to manipulate.Except their main point is that while some fads may not be overtly negative to your child's well being, a fad that has nothing behind it at all besides perpetuating its own existence can also be damaging in its own way. Their appraisal of Pokemon as a merchandising racket which preys on a child's need to keep up with their peers by having all the latest bells and whistles, is totally accurate. Pokemon's central premise of always looking forward to the next catch, never being content, is reflected in the motto "Gotta Catch 'Em All" which is a fallacy, because with constant new species appearing, no one will ever be able to catch them all. The running gag of Kyle always being one step behind his friends, getting the doll when they're all playing the game, getting the game when they're all going to the camp, that's a literalization of Pokemon as a trend. The modern equivalent would be Fortnite, where kids always have to grind for the latest levels and buy the latest character skins, while at the same time not really getting much stimulation from the game's base content.
>>122174426The entirety of season 20 was really fucking bad.
>>122174766I think Jakovasaurus is pretty good
Obama Wins, which was another progenitor for lamebrained political apathy.201, which mostly fell flat because Comedy Central outright censored the ending.Crack Baby Athletic Association, which felt more racist than South Park normally does.Come to think of it, Season 15 had a lot of stinkers.
>>122174426I would say the rainforest one, getting all pissy because they went on a bad camping trip there.
>>122176832>Crack Baby Athletic AssociationAnything that shows how terrible EA is can't be bad.
>>122176832Eh, half of Crack Baby Athletic Association was good, mainly the parts about the kids finding out Slash from Guns n' Roses doesn't exist....or does he?
>>122176832 here, I changed my mind. City Sushi goes way further to be more racist than the last episode by also ruining Mr. Kim's character.
>>122176832Other than the Black Friday trilogy, I didn't like season 17.
>>122174426It's an 'OP neglects his private parts' thread.
>>122174426Put all post season 15 Randy episodes on a wall, wear a blindfold and throw a dart.
>>122176681Duffy, not Dempsey. The Man From Atlantis, and Dallas.
It makes me sad that more people dislike the early seasons over time.
>>122177501I rewatched them recently, some episodes still hold up decently but there’s a lot that are really dated. I think season 1 especially is rough
>>122174426i like that episode
>>122175649stanley's cup is fucking hysterical, especially the end
>>122177501I don't get it either, I watched them back recently and I loved the early seasons. People who use "dated" as a negative are smoothbrains.
>>122176127GOT TO BUY THEMGOT TO BUY THEM ALL
>>122177460Oh really? All this time I thought it was The Grey’s Anatomy’s dude. Perhaps I proved OP’s point.
>>122174766I kind of liked the queefing one. I am however a leaf.
>>12217442690% of the episodes they made after 2015.
>>122174426All of Season 20. Its one big giant 10 part waste of an episode and season
>>122175843Early South Park had many jokes per episodeMiddle South Park had one joke per episodeNow South Park has one joke per season. They jumped the shark.
>>122179295>Now South Park has one joke per seasonThis. And they drag it out sooooo fucking long it stops being funny. I mean, having one episode making fun of Trump can be pretty hilarious, but when you make 2 or 3 seasons about Trump it just gets tedious.
>>122174426Basically, most episodes starting with season 11. South Park peaked with the Mysterion episodes (an actual good story arc).
>>122175045I love about half of those. People seem to shit on season two, including Matt and Trey, but it makes me laugh.
>>122177501They're just too mean spirited in retrospect
>>122177501I like the early episodes more the older I get. Having to watch anything from after the year 2009 is cringe if not outright exhausting.
>>122176328> they tried to make fun of a celebrity it was someone third rate and long forgotten like Patrick Duffy or Sidney Poitier. I honestly liked that better than the relevant modern shit. A bunch of weirdos in some small town talking about Meredith Baxter Birney in the late 90's.
>>122175045Prehistoric ice man was funny
Most of them have aged badly. Worst is the Great Expectations episode. Agreed on the random insults towards washed up celebrities like Sally Struthers. Imagine being some 20 year old and trying to watch an episode and not knowing who she, Rob Reiner, Phil Collins or the Oprah book guy are and why there's a whole episode about them.
>>122176832Unironically what's wrong with racism?
>>122179140RAKE? WHERE'S THE RAKE?
>>122176408The one thing that show did that really surprised me was have a near perfect Beavis and Butthead parody. And they did it on an ABC TGIF teen sitcom. No one else ever got it right, but they did.
>worst episode?say no more
>>122179349Which was also tedious when everyone else was making the exact same Trump jokes too. Daily Show turned into Trevor Noah making Trump impressions in his livingroom. All late night talk shows turned into Trump impressions and Trump sketches....it was impossible to get away from Trump shit.
>>122174897Except cigarettes kill the person standing next to you so no, people shouldn't be allowed to use them.
>>122174766>doesn't like Queef Free
>>122174897>>122180961>gun laws would reduce school shootings>american'ts literally blown out
>>122174426The Inception one is probably down there. It's not awful, but the sheer fact that they just shat out a basic bitch parody of what people thought Inception was going to be while admitting they hadn't even bothered to watch it or look into it at all feels kind of galling for a show that likes to actually tackle things as they are.
The Pewdiepie episode. It was basically a nu-simpson celebrity episode where they just jacked off the celebrity, not even once did they make fun of him.
>>122176832>Crack Baby Athletic Association, which felt more racist than South Park normally does. You missed the point
>>122176127This anon's gotta buy 'em
>>122174765no that one was funny
>>122175893what the fuck is wrong with you
>>122176328https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/trey-parker-thinks-the-first-3-seasons-of-south-park-are-terrible.html/exactly this, they hate the first few seasons
That one about the flag. It had a really stupid moral. >"These kids can't see racism, therefore it isn't a problem"
The AA one, it doesn't help than they kinda say the opposite thing in the freemium game ep
>>122182084If you have to do research for something to be racist, it isn’t racist. Trust me, I’m white and I’ve banged 7 black women.
>>122174426I don't like any of the ones where it's just lazy gross out humour and nothing else, like any of the Mr Hankey episodes, it's just 30 minutes of the same joke.
>>122174426City Lost On Edge of Foreverrandom recap episode
The last couple of seasons were just boring and the new shit with the covid specials are bad too
>>122182220The zookeepers let you fuck the monkeys?
>>122181733Also the world war z parody was also awful. Later season are dog shit and I have no idea how people can enjoy post season 6 southpark.
Also pic related, worst ending of any southpark ep ruins the entire episode such lazy trash shit.
I always figured Stanley's Cup was still considered one of the worst.Never seen anybody defend it--all it is is Trey and Matt being butthurt they were called out for a Steve Irwin joke and just spitefully expressing how much they hate feel-good sports movies. Just that one joke, replayed ad infinitum.
Actually, I have a better answer: Pandemic from season 12. Not because it's a bad episode but because it aged terribly. Does anyone even remember Peruvian Flute bands? That must've been such a specific annoyance.
The Britney Spears episode. Being mean spirited was always part of South Park but the problem with that episode was that it wasnt funny and it was boring and outside the Britney portion I can't even remember if there was a sub plot.
>>122183011>outside the Britney portion I can't even remember if there was a sub plot.I vaguely recall something about Butters being dressed as a squirrel? So basically a retread of the much better Paris Hilton episode
>>122175045I like Prehistoric Ice Man
I used to dislike old South Park, but after rewatching the first 4 seasons I’ve grown to appreciate them and think most of the episodes hold up. The only ones I found genuinely boring were Starvin Marvin in Space and Pip.
>>122179823Hi Mr Enter
>>122182084That wasn’t the message dumbass. Chef still wanted to change the flag. He just realized that caring about the color of people’s skin too much can end up making you a racist to some degree.
>>122183879Hi, Mr Enter Obsessed Freak.
>>122182307That one was funny. It starts off as a clip show episode but starts to develop an actual plot.
>>122182890Why do they hate Steve Irwin so much? They’ve been making fun of him since Season 2
What was the point of this episode? What the hell did they think a meme was?
>>122182307That one was funny if only because it was a play on recap episodes. A lot of shows do that now but I don't recall anyone doing it before this.
>>122176832>Crack Baby Athletic Association, which felt more racist than South Park normally does.how is this racist? i think this was a pretty good episode.>>122177501i still like the majority of them.>>122179527those episodes were good but i think the peak was the season where kenny actually died for a while and butters went from being the replacement friend to becoming professor chaos.>>122183958did you forget the planking trend?
>>122182890I personally think that episode is funny as shit.
>>122182890what did it have to do with the steve irwin joke?
>>122183921what is the plot? They do recap his and then they reveal everything was Stan's dream cut to the credits
>>122174426The Last of the Meheecans.
>>122174426You posted it.Even S20-21 episodes would get chuckles out of me a couple times per ep.I couldn't even finish that one
>>122174426Any with Towely or Terrance/Philipor Mr Hankey
>>122184912>Terrance and Phillip>not liking Behind the Blow, Canada on Strike or Not Without my Anus.I know its you Scott.
Not really a fan of Garrison episodes.Eek, A Penis and Worldwide Recorded Contest are really the only Mr.Garrison centered episodes I really enjoyed, everything else is just kind of a bore with me.
>>122182307Wasn't that a parody of clipshows? Every clip basically ends with them having ice-cream
>>122184994Mr Garrison is my favorite character
>>122185251I like Garrison but he works best as a support character, rather than driving a plot on his own
>>122185268Basically my thought too, he's great, but episodes about him aren't even in my top favorites
>>122184912i like the mr hankey episode where they make a christmas special out of construction paper and it turns out to be jesus vs santa
>>122174426Besides all of season 20 and 21, and all of the Randy weed episodes of season 23, the worst episode would probably be the one you showed here, and also D-Yikes, Jakovasaurus, the Britney Spears episode and the season 18 Pewdiepie finale.
>>122186873>the season 18 Pewdiepie finale.Holy fuck I forgot about that one. That's is my vote for the worst episode
>>122174426the high school musical one
