The problem with Sonic as a franchise is that it's a franchise that's Shonen, but not allowed to have any of the things that make a Shonen engaging. There will be no endings, only new beginnings and reboots. There will be no consequences because potentially dealing such a story development can hurt the marketability of the franchise which is for kids.That leaves you with a franchise that's going nowhere and fast. Sonic's pretentiousness finally caught up with him. Sega ensured that Sonic is not interesting. And worse than that, Sega ensures that Sonic is lousy in both story AND gameplay. You can only afford to drop storytelling if you got good gameplay like Mario, but that's never been Sonic's situation. Sonic is fucked thanks to incompetence in all areas.
