Starting off with the tricornered window, it's a cool manga and anime about two men who go around snatching ghost-folk through soul sex shenanigans. Please feel free to add any manga or anime with BL related stuff, even shounen-ai is okay! Obviously follow the board's rules and stuff.
gonna add panels of the manga
Also, everybody probably knows what Killing Stalking is, but does everybody know it just came out in print version, in English? Anyway, I'm not really up to date on what's new in the BL-sphere, so I'd love to hear what everybody's reading and get into it myself.
Did they finish releasing Sankaku in English? I was waiting for the last volumes.Head's up that someone has started translating Ex-Hero High Schooler and the Ex-Demon King Househusband, though only the twitter comics so far, not the print tankobon. Also, "not BL" and not on Tokyopop's site yet but vol 6 of Mild Noble is up for preorder dated 17th January, so the digital should be out around November or December.
Best cute-and-wholesome titles without much angst IMHO. Some of them include R18 scenes and some are just shounen-ai. Are non canon gay ship alright for this thread? Can we used it to discuss currently airing anime?
>>3750684Yeah this got a physical English release by Seven Seas
>>3750717>Did they finish releasing Sankaku in English? I was waiting for the last volumes.I haven't finished it yet myself 'cause I just started, but it does seem to have a complete set now.>>3750767Oh neat, which one is your favorite anon?>>3750768I feel like as long as you're discussing it because there's undertones or chemistry and you want to introduce people to a manga that's fine. Otherwise, we already have ship discourse threads on /cm/, like for example the Naruto thread or the 'cute couples' thread.
>>3750775My favorite is Nigatsu no Eden by Kiyuhiko. I didn't include it into list since it's more in tragedy genre, but I think it's a wonderful work in that sense
Anyone got any good recc for wholesome, consensual romance with hot sex?None of that "I force myself on this straight guy/my friend and now hes gay" toxic shit.I need some feel good, so sweet it spikes your blood sugar romance where there is love and respect and maybe some hot bedroom time
>>3750815feeding lamb
>>3750832Kek>>3750815actually, I'm at a loss for genuinely romantic shit, seems like even dubcon is a thing in most BL. But that other anon above posted a whole list of wholesome reccs
>>3750768Thread should be a general for fujoposting. No reason to limit it to BL
>>3750767thank you kindly. exactly what i was looking for. read "restart wa tadaima no ato de" and "restart wa onaka wo sukasete" not too long ago. if the rest is anything like it, i'm sure i'll have a good time. >>3750815if you like the artstyle, seaside stranger, maybe? it is romantic and has some sex scenes, if i remember correctly. has been a while.
>>3750841I mean feel free to do so, nobody can ban or remove you. Just seems like /cm/ could learn to post about whatever they want to talk about in the threads designated to their fandoms or interests.

I can also recommend you to try out Furuya Nagisa's works. All of them are wholesome with those two being my favorite:[FURUYA Nagisa] Hoshi Dake ga Shitteru[FURUYA Nagisa] Gunjou no Subete
>>3750853>I mean feel free to do so, nobody can ban or remove you. Just seems like /cm/ could learn to post about whatever they want to talk about in the threads designated to their fandoms or interests. There aren't enough users on /cm/ who want to talk.Even a BL thread can't sustain itself alone
>>3750917Fair enough. Go for it then
>>3751198Not that anon butI'm glad Bleach is returning because husbandosSurprised there's no thread here but then again this place is fucking dead
>>3751210Blach has zero homo and it's old as fuck, what do you expect
>>3751210Well who's your husbando anon? I haven't seen bleach in forever but I remember I used to love Kon and Ulquiorra.
>>3750881will do. that list of yours should keep me busy for a while. do you have any specific translations of the works in mind? i often just stick with the first one that pops up. maybe i should be a bit more picky in that regard. an ill-fitting translation can really do a number on an otherwise good story. and while i'm here, why not shill one of my favorites again. [mokumoku ren] hikaru ga shinda natsuit's a supernatural horror story where an eldritch entity overtakes the dead body of the protagonists friend without anybody else noticing. the story has some creepy imagery, but i mostly like it for the vague sense of unease it creates and the mental pressure it puts on the protagonist, who has to deal with his unresolved feelings towards his friend and if he is ready to let go or wants to hold onto the facsimile.
>>3751264
>>3751266
>>3751264Speaking of translations, the recc you just posted has a pretty interesting one. I'm staring it right now, summary sounds spicy. Hikaru ga shinda natsu.
>>3751293definitely. i guess they are emulating a sort of dialect or slang and, i'm not gonna lie, that leads to some odd choices in wording. it will be interesting to see how the official translations will handle that. i just hope the story holds up and doesn't turn into a total trainwreck.
>>3751335I genuinely like it desu, felt southern American even though it's clearly a completely different country. Uh but anon it's... I finished all of it... When's the next update? Man that was a really fun read but now I'm irritated that I have to wait. So far I find the protagonist a bit annoying. Yes, Hikaru is dead. Just arm fuck the demon's torso and adore him like he deserves to be adored, please.
>>3751212What do you mean it doesn't have homo, the whole thing with Aizen was homo as fuck. That dude was just so salty.
>>3751401Genuinely one of the most straight shounens
>>3751469What's the gayest
>>3751365ugh. yeah... that's the thing when recommending an ongoing series, i guess. dreadfully sorry for getting you hooked on this early. it's 11 chapters in and the plot seems just to get started. don't know when it updates either. i just check on it once in while. and we might be a bit harsh on poor yoshiki. i mean, he lost his friend and this imposter is parading around as him. just... lying there with luscious lips, delicous sweat trailing down his neck and other delicate parts of his body... uhhh... sorry. what was i going on about?but in all seriousness, the author seems to be in it for the long run. i like a good, long buildup with the occasional tease, but it better be worth my time in the end. just fansercive and bait doesn't cut it for me anymore.
>>3750839why is dubcon so common in BL? Like.. I just want to see two handsome guys be in love, no gaslighting, no mean, no outside sources fucking shit up. And if they happen to have hot sex well that's a bonus. But I swear 95% of bl and yaoi is dubcon. It's like that in straight shit too actually. It's like asian countries can mostly only do dubcon.
>>3751264>hikaru ga shinda natsuYen Press is going to publish this in English sometime next year.
>>3751512I went to google the history of yaoi but stumbled across a bunch of folks in the past whining about how it fetishizes gay man.Nope nope. Anyway I'm just gonna assume it's because it's spicy. I personally don't like my yaoi without a bit of dubcon, as I think full on gooey romance is boring- this is why I find het-shipping boring as well. Just how the brain fires I guess.
>>3751512oh, but this is interesting anon.
>>3751507Probably naruto or some shit.
>>3751512>why is dubcon so common in BL?It's not. The real question is why people are so obsessed with claiming this when they use proper tag and find millions of boring vanilla works
>>3751507i started hxh because the guys in the thread and a friend said it was good. it's probably up there. >>3751521i'll buy the german one from altraverse, but i'll be checking out the official english one to compare it with the scanlation for sure. maybe i'll get both if i have the chance.
>>3751212It's time threads on /a/ used to be husbando threads tooI don't see how something has to be gay to appreciate handsome men>>3751260Shinji, I like characters whose looks don't really match their personality

>>3750676Literally just found this board and this is exactly the sort of thread I’ve been looking for.>>3750815Maybe Boku no Omawarisan? It’s one I personally enjoyed.
>>3752102>Maybe Boku no Omawarisan? It’s one I personally enjoyed.what's it about?
>>3752178I’m the worst at giving summaries, but it’s essentially about the budding relationship between a cop and a former cop. There’s no heavy drama and I think it can be pretty wholesome.
>>3751603most characters in this show are psychos, creeps, hypocrites or all of the above. at least hisoka enjoys himself to his depraved heart's content. >>3752102>>3752185looks and sounds cute. i saw the cover before, but for some reason decided against it. will give it a try then. thank you and, uh, welcome, i guess.
>>3752224Of course anon hope you enjoy it, and thanks.
>>3751919I never cared about KageHina but this got my attention instead. I haven't seen much content of it though.
>>3752271It actually got a bunch of dedicated artist since the timeskip now. A lot of seme Hinata around
>>3752102Oh damn that's by the author who did the oyaji tittyfuck.
>>3752232that was very sweet. maybe a bit fast for me, because i like the period of anticipation before something happens and the first kiss was very sudden, but overall a very enjoyable read. "lube and condoms out of thin air " might be my new favorite trope.but more of a general question. is lgbtq-centric stuff, like shimanami tasogare, acceptable? it has gay characters and romance, but it's not really bl at the end of the day.
>>3751507As the other anon mentioned, HxH. Hisoka is very much a pedo for Gon and Killua and Killua is gay for Gon. Stuff gets lost in translation though, some things like Killua talking about committing "Shinjū" (lover's suicide) with Gon don't come through in the English version.
>>3753027it seems togashi wasn't shy talking about what he had planned for trouble quartet, so it's not really a surprise that he snuck some of his "personal interest" into hxh. i finished the series yesterday. i can appreciate what he tried to do, but i often hated how it was executed. but it was fun to discuss the why with my friend.
>>3753038I love HxH so I can't say I agree with the second part of your post, but yeah HxH is literally Trouble Quartet in a different form like he said
>>3753054makes a lot of sense, when you spell it out like that. i guess i never stood a chance since i developed a distaste for gon, killua and their relationship as early as the hunter exams. may i ask what makes you love the series? also does that include both, the anime and the manga, or is it just one of the two?
>>3753077I guess it comes down to whether you like them or not because Gon and Killua's relationship is a big part of why I love HxH lol, Killua in particular is one of my favorite characters ever. Chimera Ant arc felt a bit dragged out and directionless in the early parts but the palace invasion was easily one of my favorite sequences in any battle shonen, and Yorknew was overall just an amazingly good arc imo. The succession war is shaping up to be either one of the best or one of the worst arcs yet depending on how it ends (if it ever does). Togashi's autism in creating little minigames and scenarios in each arc (eg. Trick Tower, Gon and Killua' escape from Nobunaga, detailed descriptions of every single card in Greed Island) is something I enjoyed thoroughly. I read the manga long before I watched either anime and I loved it, but I like all of them for different reasons (manga for story, 99 for visual direction, 2011 for the soundtrack).
>>3753038Did he ever manage to publish this
>>3753215HxH started in 1998
>>3753084hxh has something. it wouldn't be such a longstanding series if it didn't and a lot of the things you mentioned are the ones that i liked on a conceptual level, but i can't seem to find an access point or characters to latch onto. then again, i watched all five seasons. i'm a bit at a loss and scratching my head. the music was good though. i agree.

>>3776291There is Love Stagehttps://anidb.net/anime/9906And Gravitationhttps://anidb.net/anime/94Both are sort of comedic. Gravitation has more of a plot outside the romance aspect. If you watch the anime, I would not recommend the ova as it is essentially a worse version of the same story. Love Stage's ova, on the other hand, is a decent continuation of the story.
Anyone else starting to fucking hate BL manga? The "plot" is always so stupid, characters are bland and shallow, and so is their relationship, it's the same thing over and over again. There are few, veeeeery few gems that I'm probably all already familiar with, and everything left is utter trash.Fuck, I've just finished reading Oreshika Shiranai Karada & Boku Wa Kimi Dake No Mono and even though the art is good and sex scenes are hot and well drawn, the characters and their relationship is dull and boring despite having two fucking manga, and porn in literally every chapter is starting to annoy me more than anything. And don't even get me started on manhwa. Though I'm reading Radio Storm now and at least it has a plot and nice art.I just want to love a good manga with a plot, interesting atmosphere and art and good characters. Haven't read anything I liked since Stigmata - Seikon Sousa
>>3776603what you describe could easily be said about any genre, couldn't it? most media produced are complete garbage, but there are varied reasons why people still might consume (and enjoy) them.i don't read bl for quality content. don't get me wrong. it's great if a work has all the positive qualities you listed, but i'm not expecting that anymore. i'm fine when it's safe, sappy and predictable. that's what i'm here for.
>>3776603Are you just reading translated manga or also untranslated? Ever since I started reading untranslated manga a few years back I realized I didn't like most of the stuff that got translated, and was able to find more things I genuinely enjoyed. Sorry to ask something unrelated to the thread topic, but this is the closest thing we have to "/cm/ general" I guess. >>3777323If someone is capable of doing that, it's Togashi, Gege and Fujimoto.Togashi barely writes, Gege is too autistic for relationships, so Fujimoto's degeneracy is all we have for now really
>>3777339Fujimoto shit is super straight and Gege doesn't seem to like romance.
>>3777360Well, at least Fujimoto likes BL and gay movies, so maybe we will achieve a timeline where he stops thinking with his coomer senses only
>>3777065have you asked in the draw thread or the original content thread? they might be able to help you out. >>3777315i wonder if there is any incentive to make something like that at all at the moment. the characters get shipped anyway and the fandom creates the fiction and art for themselves. all the creators have to do is to add some hints and bait in their work to live rent free in the heads of fujos for decades. they can just play it safe.
>>3777394Yeah, subtext + no canon love interest is the safest route for everyone. Besides unless it's a series where the fujo fandom stands more or less united behind a single ship the backlash would e even worse. Ships can coexist more peacefully where no one has a shot at gaining canon status.
>>3777394>i wonder if there is any incentive to make something like that at all at the moment. the characters get shipped anyway and the fandom creates the fiction and art for themselves. all the creators have to do is to add some hints and bait in their work to live rent free in the heads of fujos for decades. they can just play it safe.Well creators are also people. They obvious have ships and stuff they'd like to show. You are starting to see more BL lite outside of Jump with stuff like Ao no Flag, Hikaru and Double as well side homo couples from time to time. It's at least obvious several authors I can think talked about it had to toe the censorship line (YoI author, Ikuhara and WHA mangaka)>>3777404I think you are severally overestimating the backslash thing, JP fujos especially are like totally whipped and still make even art of Naruto who is abecore manga at this point. Most sport series also tend to have ships everyone default/that gain more traction. Harem aimed at straight guys honestly have far more inflight and you still get a canon ship at the end. Most of the rage would probably just come from the straight guys who would be angry you made their character "gay" or didn't pick on the homo-eroticism.
>>3777404straight shippers chimp out when their best girl doesn't win the mcbowl and that isn't stopping anyone. Singling out fujos for being autistic over ships seems unfair.
>>3777409know what? you are right. i guess these creatives are under a lot of pressure from publishers and society as a whole. it's good to see that they can push bounderies as far as they do, even if it's not fast enough for some of us. yoi actually was the show that rekindled my interest in anime and manga after a long pause. i just hope we can have a series like that without the censorship in the future. and i hope mokumoku ren can realize hikaru the way they want and that they don't have to tone anything down because the series has a wider appeal than anyone predicted. i'm a bit worried though.i also probably shouldn't have brought up "fujos" as if that did'nt include me. that just seems to create friction.
>>3777322How explicit do you want it? Because Legend of the Blue Wolves technically exists...
any bl where the top fucks his bot for the lol?
It's kinda funny that the whole belief that "No gay shit would actually ever happen on shounen" lead to some mangaka slipping in the most gay shit imaginable because straight guys don't pick on it and everyone just dismissed it lol.It leads to some situations where you have totally bizarre "friendships" that act like nothing like actual friends would act and weird merchandise like pair rings and shit.
>>3777463Weird that I never heard about it. Aesthetically at least it looks nice. Is there anything I should know before going in? Is it infamous for anything? Porn to plot ratio?
>>3777541Are you young? It was sorta infamous in the 90 lol

>>3777960No way. Speaking of Free! I think the only reason why they haven't made any main couple canon is that there are a lot of ships to choose from and they might risk upsetting a lot of the fanbase if they canonize anything.
>>3777505Some guy on /a/ was telling me that Draluc and Hinaichi from Vampire Dies in No Time were guaranteed to be end game married couple because it's shounen and she exists in the floorboards. I don't think he follows the manga, which has confirmed through omake that the two male leads are still living together 30 years later, with not a girlfriend in sight. There's a lot of coincidences in the series, like the human lead's favorite scent being his vampire room mate, or the bad end previews depicting the vampire giving his gemstone heart to save the human's life. They made official rings with their names in as well and the author is a known fudan who tweets about looking at doujins the same weekend as events dedicated to his leads. If nothing else those boys are not fucking any ladies, even though they seem to be crawling in horny cakes.

I'm surprised there's no love for Maou Evelogia. Gozu and Eve are an amazing couple with great chemistry and communication. It's also one of the only good uses ever of the video game isekai trope.
>>3778615Every chapter leaves me furiously wanting more. I can't get enough of their story, the H scenes are great but those come second to the soft moment of them figuring each other out as people.
>>3779989I honestly don't even care about the sex scenes, everything else is so amazing.Gozu's speech to Charon in chapters 63-65 is one of the coolest examples of talk no jutsu ever and completely justified the whole Magic School Namek arc all by itself.
>>3778038i disregarded the anime at first but gave it a chance after reading your post. haven't laughed this hard in ages. it's great. seeing satetsu and manabu interact fills my heart with a joy i didn't think possible anymore. when i saw them in the 2nd op i was over the moon. seriously, thank you. >>3778495watched this some time ago and i have to admit that it cought me off guard. i didn't expect to enjoy the plot, worldbuilding and characters as much as i did. the main guys relationship turned out to be a bit too anemic for my taste, but everything else made more than up for that. erika ended up being my favorite though, which left me a bit dumbfounded, considering why i watched it to begin with.>>3778615i don't think i can get my disdain for isekai across through words alone, so just let me say that it took me some serious effort to get over myself and read this. it took me out of my comfort zone, but i had a good time overall. doesn't surprise me that people might not like it that much though. small top/big bottom (that can't shut up), kinky sex that borders on sm, these frilly final-fantasy-esque designs. it's rather niche, i'd say. anyway, the characters are well done and i want to know where the story goes. i'm in.

>>3781521I love Manabu too.
>>3781493i didn't expect to enjoy the plot, worldbuilding and characters as much as i did. the main guys relationship turned out to be a bit too anemic for my taste, but everything else made more than up for thatcouldn't have worded it better. the relationship was somewhat intense in the first 2 to 3 episodes at least

>>3781493>too anemicThe anime really killed their dynamic. In the manga there's far more humour and tension between them as the series goes on, and the rest of the cast feels justified in treating them like a couple. I was really frustrated with the anime dumbing down all the apparitions and taking out what made the leads so endearing. I'm glad Erika was still enjoyable though, her relationship with Sakaki was a real dark horse and caring for them added to the stakes when they tried to escape.>>3781559The current scan team is uploading directly to mangadex so I don't see why you would use any other site if you wanted the most immediate. The chapter they added this week is a good example of how the anime pick and mixes the manga contents, they skipped so many character introductions that when they did the Halloween party episode they had to cut several things and throw QSG at us before doing the QSG episode. Today's anime episode has jumped some hundred chapters ahead to introduce Draluc's mother, while the HelShin shippers continue to sob pathetically in the background. Please, just one Tama before the season is over. Just a well cleaned cup even.>>3781521I would start from the beginning because the anime jumps around so much and identifying the missing chapters would take as much time as just skimming through them anyway. There's always a few gags they couldn't keep and it's funny seeing how shit Handa's hair looked at the start. Just be warned that the first translation team to work on it had grammar troubles and reading their version compared to the anime subs can be a headache.>silver haired boys belong to vampiresUnless you're Ventrue, in which case...
>>3781606I know you guys love mangadex for some reason, but vampire dies in no time did not update often and I waited for a year and a half before I left to find other chapter updates. Shit on me all you want but mangadex does not upload that frequently on a lot of stuff I read. I found the manga there originally but it was not updated on a decent schedule. I go read on other sites because people usually update every week.
>>3781631Anon, it's literally the site people upload their translations to. The other sites just rip from mangadex, with the exceptions of mrm - which has users uploading rips of official releases - and batoto and cubari when dex has been unavailable. If your complaint is "it didn't update enough!" that's because there was no one translating and editing it.
>>3781654These sites have independent translators that update manga and BL that doesn't get updated or translated often or at all on mangadex. Some may rip from magadex but I already checked the site I linked and they updated chapters of VDINT before the official translation was updated on mangadex. Like I said its something I have been following and checking back for updates for awhile. The whole reason I went to other sites is to find an up to date version of stories.I know people here love jerking off mangadex, but a lot of BL or other stories I am interested in actually update weekly on vvyv as opposed to updates in Italian or Spanish on mangadex with zero English translations for months to years.Did I start complaining to you about updates? No, I was trying to be helpful in my original post. Instead I get posters shitting on the site I use because they love mangadex so much or try to argue about me using a different site that has frequent updates.
>>3781654I'm also aware what mrm does because I scan and upload doujin I buy and then post it there. you can be condescending but its really not appreciated. this is why I usually don't post in these threads anymore.
>>3781521i can't handle how cute they are. whoever came up with the idea for this scene is a saint. >>3781546who wouldn't love this little nuisance to society? i'm so happy he'll be slightly inconveniencing our heroes again next episode. >>3781543i don't know when it started to be this way for me. i watched shows like escaflowne and monster rancher just fine, but now i hardly want to bother with fantasy as a genre at all. what does make you roll your eyes, if you don't mind the question? for me it's mostly blatant self-insert-characters, reincarnation and worlds running on videogame logic. >>3781606>The anime really killed their dynamic.damn. it sucks when something like that happens. not really a surprise when it comes to adaptations, but still. even the outro seemed to imply a deeper relationship than the one that was actually shown. i watched it because i remembered the cover from the op and wasn't in the mood for reading at the time. i guess i'll have to rectify that decision at some point. and i should probably add vampire dies in no time to that list as well. sounds like the changes they made to that series are a bit on the peculiar side as well.
>>3781692I think you've been confused by the time HyperJump uploaded a whole volume in one night because they realised sitting on chapters was getting them "sniped". I'm not sure why you're taking this personally, but the truth still is we only upload the translated chapters on mangadex where they can be accessed as PNG files in the original resolution. Unless you're somehow spying on the translation team groupchat or have constructed a time machine you are not magically acquiring the chapters before they're finished and uploaded. I don't know how else to convey this to you now you've made such a fuss.>Did I start complaining to you about updates?>>but it was not updated on a decent schedule>>3781702>monster rancherNice. NTA, and I'm afraid I'm an isekai junkie who is all about fantasy, but I can absolutely agree on the video game logic part. I read the openings to tons of LN adaptations and have to close out the moment they status screen appraisal inventory craft wowowow number stats and debuff negation. I don't think the self inserts are as bad for me because I find dark haired guys attractive and surely see more in them than intended, but when trying recommended LNs as text it is painful how many "pure fantasy" begin with the most hamfisted infantile examples of "I didn't do anything wrong everyone else is just mean to me I am so oppressed waah". And then they get a cheat skill handed to them on a platter, and the skill is Just Basically All Other Skills. I've found some I enjoy that present the MC with challenges, but I don't blame you if you don't have the patience to root around looking for it. Monster Farm remains a great example of translating a video game into a narrative setting, and because it's an isekai they made the point that it used to have stats and numbers, but when you're actually there that's not how reality works. I wish more authors remembered that and how much uncertainty it creates in conflicts. Thanks for the opportunity to rant.
>>3781702>what does make you roll your eyes, if you don't mind the question? What used to be an interesting storytelling mechanic before it became the dominant fad has now turned into a stock set of cliches that exist purely to game the algorithms on Narou and get money from Kadokawa, not to tell a story that the writer was passionate about. It gets old seeing the same overpowered cheat-code MCs, adventurer's guilds, video game stats/menus, Dragon Quest references, etc. over and over again. Then there's the grotesque new fads like how every recent isekai has to have a slave market. Isekai fans swear these stories all differentiate themselves beyond those cliches, but I just can't sit through the same old shit over and over again for the hope (not even a guarantee) of a good story afterwards.I like how Evelogia handles the video game isekai formula by comparison because, rather than shoehorning RPG gameplay mechanics into a non-interactive medium, it instead focuses on what actually does translate over: the story. It's fun seeing the ripple effects of Gozu going all FF7R on his favorite game, or even just running into stuff he didn't remember seeing in the game because they couldn't show every single thing. It also works so much better to have Eve, the actual game character, be the overpowered cheat code and Gozu be his caddie who gives him advice based on his knowledge. There's something oddly wholesome about how Gozu's quest to make Eve win in the end has instead resulted in them becoming the accidental heroes themselves, putting out all the fires before they can even get to the final boss fight. The sheer amount of thought and attention to detail that's gone into this story is exactly what's missing from most isekai when it should be what justifies the premise.
>>3781720>Monster Farm remains a great example of translating a video game into a narrative setting, and because it's an isekai they made the point that it used to have stats and numbers, but when you're actually there that's not how reality works. It's amazing how such an obvious point has been all but lost between 1999 and now. Digimon Ghost Game has also been getting a lot of mileage out of the opposite situation: the monsters not understanding how limited humans are physically compared to themselves. Most isekai doesn't really take advantage of having an alternate world beyond the most superficial level. Writers who can't think of an actual purpose for it should just stick to writing basic fantasy stories instead.
Sorry if this question is off-topic, but does anyone have any long-running fujobait-y anime? I want something to devote my whole week to. Thank you.
>>3781757Since we're on the topic of isekai, have you watched Kyo Kara Maou yet?
Speaking of gay isekai, I'm still surprised there's been no attempt at a mainstream fujobait isekai anime. By mainstream, I mean something on the level of SAO or Re:zero (sorry Evelogia). You would think there'd be at least one attempt or even a Kyou Kara Maou revival, but alas.>>3781822Yes, actually. And coincidentally, it's what inspired the question. I watched KKM two years ago and was thinking last night, "I want to experience something like that again." I love single cour anime as much as anyone else, but there's something to be said about a 100+ episode anime where you get to see the relationship between the two main boys develop over the course of the series. It's to the point where I've even started watching kodomo anime, like Pokémon Journeys and Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS. Surprisingly, kodomo anime has gotten really fujobait-y in recent years, but now that those aforementioned series have ended, I need more..!
>>3781866The trouble is thinking of anything that doesn't no homo or introduce a female love interest, because like you say, it's more likely to be a children's show that has more than two cours. Some idol series have had numerous series and baity characters, but the casts are huge and introduce new groups each subsequent season so they're always using the additional time to develop new pairs instead of focusing on the initial ones. I love Starmyu, but each season I forget about what happened between guys in the previous season because suddenly there's another lover's spat going down with someone new.KKM's timeslot on the NHK channel is currently taken up by Mairimashita Iruma-kun, which has easily paired up characters and plenty of fanart to enjoy, but feels like more of an all-rounder that plays up a female love interest and so many characters it's impossible to say it's fujobait overall. Classicaloid and Phi Brain were also NHK shows that had some very attached male characters in a mixed gender cast, but I know a lot of anons hated them when they aired. "Eat me senpai!" has no method of no homoing though, nor does that time Mozart drank Beethoven's fruit piss. Arguing over Kaito ownership can at least be explained as spoilt brats gone mad.I feel like mentally I'm preemptively downplaying just how shippy a show is. I'll accept table scraps but when presenting a choice to someone else it feels like I'm committing a crime if I walked up saying Saiyuki and Hikaru no Go were long running and felt like boys should hold each other sometime, even though they're fucking classics for that kind of doujin material. I'm about to try watching through Get Backers myself, and you know how it looks before you get deep into fights on fights with fights in the back, but does it count? For a 52 ep kids show off the beaten path I'd recommend Majin Bone because the supporting cast get some great male bonds in, but again, most anons hated it so I feel iffy promising teensy homo.
>>3781720>I'm an isekai junkie who is all about fantasyi love fantasy, but it hardly caters to my interests anymore. when i found dungeon meshi i tore through it like a starved lunatic. the down to earth character designs, classical monsters and slowly darkening tone were really refreshing and reminded me why i liked fantasy to begin with (where's project re fantasy, atlus, you fucks?). but hey, maybe i should try to let go of that isekai-grudge and since you are here, do you think you can recommend me a show or manga? >it is painful how many "pure fantasy" begin with the most hamfisted infantile examples of "I didn't do anything wrong everyone else is just mean to me I am so oppressed waah". i always try to remind myself that there are no bad ideas, just bad execution, but you can only get burned so often before you get jaded and stop trying. so yeah. there's plenty of garbage all around, no matter the genre.>Monster Farm remains a great example of translating a video game into a narrative settingi need to rewatch it. it just popped into my mind when i thought about isekai. >Thanks for the opportunity to rant.anytime. i always enjoy it when people talk about the stuff they are passionate about, be it praises or rants, and you seem to know your stuff pretty well. >>3781722>What used to be an interesting storytelling mechanic before it became the dominant fad has now turned into a stock set of cliches that exist purely to game the algorithms so it's basically the step-mom-porn of the japanese entertainment industry. >Then there's the grotesque new fads like how every recent isekai has to have a slave market.isekai often feel to me like they are deeply rooted in the authors misanthropy and spite, which makes it hard for me to get involved. these kind of feelings are present in eve and gozu , but it's not the work itself that's radiating them, if that makes sense, so i'm interested of how the characters will deal with them.
>>3781902>>3781722>The sheer amount of thought and attention to detail that's gone into this story is exactly what's missing from most isekai when it should be what justifies the premise.it's not just missing from isekai. it's just missing in general. attention to detail is what makes or breaks a story. dungeon meshi is just a dungeon crawler based on wizardry with some cooking sprinkled in. it the attention to detail that makes it special to me. >>3781726Most isekai doesn't really take advantage of having an alternate world beyond the most superficial level. Writers who can't think of an actual purpose for it should just stick to writing basic fantasy stories instead.again. that shit is everywhere. writers build amazing worlds just to ignore it and proceed to write the most basic drivel they can spew on a page for a plot. >>3781757i was raking my brain for a show to recommend and something bubbled up from the darkest depth of my mind. it's only 38 episodes and definitely not what you had in mind, but i have to offer it anyway. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CbrQeBhsu4reideen the superior/chouja reideenhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsKqKH5O6o8https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ul1LHUapeRwsorry to burden you with this, but i had to get it out.
>>3781757>>3781866I don't know if you've seen Appmon, but that one is 52 episodes long.Another recent one is Binan Koukou Chikyuu Bouei-bu, which got three seasons and a movie.I'd also suggest Owari no Seraph, but it only got two seasons way back in 2015 and, while the manga is still going, it doesn't seem likely that the anime will ever return.>>3781902>so it's basically the step-mom-porn of the japanese entertainment industry. I guess? My first impulse would be to compare it to how Hollywood got taken over by capeshit, but that stuff has never had any merit in my opinion, while there's at least some occasional isekai series that show what the genre could be like if it wasn't such a cynical algorithm-driven cash grab.>isekai often feel to me like they are deeply rooted in the authors misanthropy and spiteThat's a good point. Both isekai and the new "kicked out of the hero's party" genre often come across as an angry bitter person ranting at their audience. It's very off-putting.
>>3781909>it's not just missing from isekai. it's just missing in general.I think it depends on the story. Not everything needs complex worldbuilding. It's a problem in isekai specifically because if you're going to present a world that's different from our own, you should at least have some ideas for how and why it's different, and what can be done there that couldn't be done on Earth. And "this world has menus like a video game!" isn't cutting it. Without some actual ideas, it's just an excuse to skip past the introductory phase of the story, slap an isekai tag on and get money. There's no passion in it.

>>3783125That would be a fun idea for a light comedy manga/anime. I'm actually surprised nothing like it has been done already.I was thinking of something more like a traditional battle shonen, except that the hero and villain realize they're exactly each other's types and they really want to be together. It'd be easy to imagine the downstream effects from that, like them having to fake-fight each other for the sake of appearances and come up with excuses for why they didn't finish each other off. Or how they find ways to go on dates or get any alone time together without being detected by either side. And there's no way they'd be able to keep it a secret forever, so what happens when everyone else finds out?

>>3784515idk then just don't say you're a man? Seems kind of lame to whine about it when men own most of the internet and there's two measly messageboards that say 'nah'.I pretend to be a man to access plenty of places. Just follow suit, anon.
>>3784535Why?
>>3784508Men have no place in something created by women for women. If you are a dude, at least learn to shut up. Nobody wants or needs to know you are a male. >>3784572Yeah the mods never ban you but you get insulted to death and the thread gets derailed into fighting. They can stay here.
>>3784634It's not a problem as long as you don't mention you are a gay dude. It has nothing to do with BL so nobody cares or wants to hear it.
>>3784634Way to think for yourself. And I imagine you've never even visited it too>>3784572Some boards? Literally all of the boards hate women. I really don't understand why women can't have just one place to themselves. And again, there's nothing stopping you from just not saying "go guys, man here!" Literally just don't do that and be cool. Leave it to a man to feel entitled to something specifically not created for him.
>>3784664That's not true. In the past I've seen plenty of discussion about things like shoujo anime, characters that women like, tropes that women like, asking what the appeal of X is for women, discussion of BL and why women like it, female mangaka and what they write, etc. Those are all things where your opinion as a woman would actually contribute to the discussion, but you still could never bring it up. Instead you had to pretend to be a male and talk with other males who think they knew what women liked. And you do get harassed out of the site, or rather mentally drained until you decide to leave. 4chan is for better or worst an eco chamber regarding most topics, and if you don't agree with or cater to the majority, you won't enjoy your time here. Getting spammed every day for trying to discuss something is not fun. I barely use the site anymore, not being able to have homothreads on /a/ in piece was the last straw.
>>3784658>Some boards? Literally all of the boards hate women. You are literally on a board where most people are women and no one care. Or even /y/. You may find some retardo that complains but no one gets banned for being a woman. On the top of it boards like /a/ tend to shun 3d talk.
>>3784679I definitely understand 4chan can be draining, but let's not pretend anyone gets banned from being a woman or there are no topics like BLOG or /y/ fujo thread were people can't mention it. Fujochan is a dead site where the userbase is more female incels than anything, I've seen girls getting kicked out of the site because they like stuff people perceive for "Men".
>>3784688Those are just single threads in a whole site. Yeah you don't get banned, but you're not welcome in over 80% of the site. It's the same as getting banned, except it's the users who backseat mod and exclude you instead.Honestly I don't use fujochan much either because it's pretty ded, hopefully it will get bigger over time, but I don't disagree with their way of filtering men out.
>>3784710It's not about mentioning you are a girl in every topic, it's about wanting to discuss girl related things/media/hobbies and getting spammed to death when you try. Like the other day I went to /diy/ to see if they had a crochet thread, and they did but it's still filled with hostility because it's a girl hobby. Try to discuss BL on /a/ and you get spammed too. You can be a gay guy on fujochan, just don't fucking mention it. The filter is there to help it grow as a pro-female site, because it is a female site about a female hobby.
>>3784722Retard, I'm not saying 4chan shouldn't be hostile to women. I know the autistic men here are not capable of that. I'm saying don't cry when women do the same shit you did, and don't be surprised when they want to have their own girl only site.
>>3784688Oh okay, go say you're a woman on any board and let's see what happens. Post results.>>3784710>What are you even discussing that you need to constantly mention you are a woman in real life? And why do men need to announce themselves on a fujo site?

Hikaru however was undoubtedly gay for Yoshiki or else the plot wouldn't have happened, and they wouldn't have had a conversation about being gay in the past.
>>3785259>have had a conversation about being gay in the pasti dont remember thatalso did anyone get weird molester vibes from hikarus dad?
>>3785275it happens when they're sitting by a lake or something. One of them mentions how they have a gay cousin and they chat about wanting to leave so they can be themselves. Idk what chapter
>>3785280i skimmed it and found it. he just implies that guy left the village for being gay, not that they wanna leave to be themselves. still, there was parts i forgot that were gayer then i remembered. i didnt see anything that was "proof" its going that way, but its feeling more likely now.
>>3784909>danmei novel titled I Ship My Adversary and MeDefinitely not a hero x villain type of novel, but still good. The premise is about two rival actors who get prominent roles for a novel adaptation. Before they start filming, the lead discovers there's a shipping fanbase between him and the other actor. Shortly after, he becomes a hardcore shipper himself. The progression from fanboying to romantic feelings is a joy to go through. The main character often points out him and the other are definitely straight which can get annoying, but it's obvious they're definitely not. There is also a webcomic adaptation that I also highly recommend. The adaptation is on hiatus unfortunately so beware of that.
>>3785259i know its not a confirmation of not gay, but haru (literally) dies because he got distracted by a sexy looking tree with boobs. to be fair that would probably distract anyone, but still>>3785345the characters are cute as all fuck, but yeah, the story is kinda too dark/weird for it to make sense. hopefully once its over, the author make an alternate version or keeps using the characters or does some bonus non-canon art.
>>3785172if mokumoku rens other work , "period", is anything to go by, their feelings might stay implied instead of being shown or expressed, but everything could be explained after the story ends, whenever that may be. i hope it keeps going for a while, even though the wait is killing me.>>3785364>sexy looking treei wonder if that are the women hikarus dad was talking about. the ones that got taken to the mountain.
>>3785259>Yoshiki's feelings are still verbally unconfirmed as far as translations have gottenNo one actually think Yoshiki is straight except paranoid fujos
>>3785439yeah i understand being wary but it seems a lot of people want everything spelled out for them
>>3785433yeah i didnt want to bring up "period" because i had in the other thread, but your on it. the mysteries killing me too of the possibilities. i genuinely have no idea if its going to end in some heart wrenching bad end that makes you wanna top yourself when your done reading it or not. its the ONE thing im refreshing every day to check if its got a new chapter.>the women hikarus dad was talking aboutoh shit. didnt even think about that
>>3785439>>3785457In my case I want Yoshiki to speak his mind and confirm it himself. There's being in love and then there's admitting you're in love, and the gay narrative won't go anywhere until he's upfront about it. The series has every hallmark of a mystery BL so far except for the emotional catharsis of Yoshiki confessing his feelings, and he keeps almost saying something and changing his mind so I feel there's something important in it. It will definitely affect the mountain god to truly hear Yoshiki's side of his relationship with Hikaru, without the tsuntsun best friend filter.Unfortunately that toeing the line means the author could still leave it unsaid, which especially for gay romance, leaves both parties acting and thinking like their affection is "one sided" and can't go anywhere soon. I can see them pulling that for the tragedy of it, making Yoshiki only say he loved Hikaru when he's alone and keeping it to himself. If the series has any longevity though, it can work through those steps and still pull out some "not-Hikaru has infested my body therefore we are joined no matter what" ritual pseudo-marriage and make the boys hold hands and put their eldritch tongues down each other's throat on the daily. They'll probably need it to keep the whatevers at bay.
>>3785482to who? harus fucking dead, anon. thats not haru, its a demon impersonating him. what about the demon? is it acting of its own free will? is it just lost in the memories it stole? even if yoshi acknowledges his feeling for haru, harus been dead for 6 months. its a pale imitation that didnt even pass the gravy test.
I just read pic related and it was short, but super cute! An unlikely relationship between a cold demon king and a cinnamon roll hero. It's apparently getting an official translation in a couple months under the name "A Hero in the Demon's Castle," which is great news since the existing translation for the last chapter is a barely-coherent MTL job.
Is Okaeri Alice BL or nah? I still read it regardless. >>3785509Oh damn thanks for the rec. What would you rate it out of 10?
>>3785521I'd give it a solid 8. It's very charming, but you can finish the whole thing in like an hour or two, and I just wanted more.
>>3785525Idk if I'd call it tranny shit, 'cause nobody in the manga is a tranny. The author himself seems to be some kind of tranny in denial though, based on what he's said about how he wishes he was a woman. Or maybe many men would rather be women. Idk, anyway. Fun read.
>>3785595Many don't want to be gay either.
>>3785521>cuts dick offLmao lol no. The author has some fucked up issues though.
>>3785655>>3785656they WILL be happy... right?
>>3785673Bet it will end like shiki.
>>3785653Nobody cut their dick off. Yo wants to cut his dick off because he's psychotic and tired of being a slave to his desires, not because he wants to be a woman. Met a guy on infinity chan who did something similar. Crazy mother fucker, wonder how he is.
>>3785656damn it
I really really need some more stories with butch/manly bottoms
Anyone reads Hanako? I wonder if next chapter would pull a homo for real
>>3786218it has been a while since i saw the show and i don't really want to give my opinion on it anymore, because it just starts arguments with no real resolution, but, since you asked, i'll try to recollect what i thought while watching. in my opinion, gon is a self-serving lunatic with no regard for his own or other peoples safety and limits, even by shonen-protagonist-standards. killua is emotionally stunted due to his upbringing. he is basically imprinted on gon and goes along with whatever that guy wants. their relationship seems heavily skewed in gons favor and it just didn't come across as healthy to me. maybe i'm overanalyzing it, i don't know. your mileage my vary. if you enjoy it, more power to you.
>>3786237gon is literally a pacificist thoughhe very clearly cares about the safety of people, he's like the nicest character in the whole showkillua goes along with gon because he loves him, not because he is emotionally stunted
>>3786238i accept your assessment. your point of view is valid and how most people seem to see it. i don't share it, but i don't want to argue about it either. i hope that's ok with you.
>>3786255then i didn't like the point, i guess.
>>3786219GET INSIDE AND FUCK THE DEMON YOSHI
>>3786228I haven't read it on a long time since sometimes I binge read the chapters, hope they finally pull them together.
>>3786295How likely it is we get an anime adaptation or ova (and which studio would you like to take on the project)
>>3750676Does anybody know if the Slow Damage manga is going to be continued or if it stops there at the first case?
i want to feel awful and kill myself after getting incredibly invested into some cute, honey muffin tier characters. it feels incredibly good to feel incredibly bad and i have no explanation for this and will provide no attempts to explain myselfwhat are my options.
>>3786298My dream would be for the Ghost Game staff from Toei to adapt HGSN someday. They would absolutely nail the horror elements better than anyone else. It would never happen, though.
>>3786228i started the manga and the anime, but for some reason i got filtered. don't know why, which is rare. normally i can pinpoint what's bugging me. i'll give it another try sometimes. >>3786298i want an adaptation so bad, but whenever that's the case it just turns out as a 3d-cgi shitfest. like dorohedoro. or nier. or blue lock. or anything by tsutomu nihei. maybe the guys who are adapting hell's paradise could do it justice.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaHZdwPZX6g>>3786375 really gets it, though. you can't just pick a studio, you have to specify which staff at a studio you want and they actually need to care about the ip. you can pay them to adapt something, but you can't pay them to give a fuck. btw, is ghost game a good starting point if i want to get back into digimon? a friend and i are playing the digimon tcg atm and i'd like something to watch along. >>3786303have you read/seen made in abyss? if not go and read/watch that. i think that'll do nicely.
>>3786414>btw, is ghost game a good starting point if i want to get back into digimon?I absolutely love it, but you can't go in expecting it to be like the previous series you remember. It's an episodic horror anthology, and it's stuck to that formula the entire time until this month, where they've started building up to the conclusion. It has wonderful characters and animation and a lot of cool ideas, but if you need serialized plot advancement every week and don't like a monster-of-the-week format, you probably won't enjoy it very much.
>>3786431>if you need serialized plot advancement every weeki don't get peoples obsession with plot to begin with. i just finished reideen. it's as formulaic as a sentai-show can get and it was glorious. ranged from so-bad-it's-good to actually-great, so give me monster-of-the-week anytime. i just started monster rancher but will pivot to ghost game instead then. thank you.
>>3786446Nice! Sounds like you'll probably like it, then. I only pointed it out because some people have whined about it being episodic literally every week of its run, even though the director said upfront that it would be episodic.
>>3786228I loved the anime and bought the first couple volumes, I need to start reading scans though. I hope these two get together.
Babanbabanban VampireThe work from author of Akamatsu Seven. It's about a vampire's dilemma whether or not sucking the blood of his innocent and cute high school boy who rescued him back then. It's pretty hilarious..Art is top tier toohttps://mangadex.org/title/25940c8e-d443-4fd4-b90a-4751f9daee62/babanbabanban-vampire?
>>3787717Hell yeah.
I need recommendations for darker emotional roller coaster yaoi, I've read The Summer Hikaru Died and all of Harada's work and love if but I need more.
>>3787924Hashihime VN?
>>3787926Never played it, I prefer manga but I'll check out the VN, thank you for the recommendation.
>>3787924How do you feel about danmei?
>>3787975I've never read or watched any but I'd be wiling to. Feel free to suggest some!
>>3787981https://www.novelupdates.com/series/the-husky-and-his-white-cat-shizun/Danmei blurbs always sound like shit, but this site at least gives some tags down the side. Scum Villain was what got me into them as a surprisingly compelling pageturner, and does have horror elements, background tragedy, and some yan/rapey moments, but Erha skips right to the bastard activities and doesn't have isekai humour to alleviate the bad time revelations. The MC is a horny idiot and wants revenge for a past only he remembers (raping his teacher to death in the first timeline wasn't enough for him), but as the story goes on it becomes clear his interpretation of what happened and who betrayed him were skewed by his own dumbfuckery. Shit gets sweet and fluffy at points and there is a happy ending, but the author revels in being able to punch readers in the gut the moment they get too comfortable. If you want something emotional and full of tragic backstories but less bastard then TGCF or Heaven Official's Blessing is literally everywhere and has more official vols out that you can find on nyaa. It's essentially a romance between a cast out goody two-shoes god and a crime boss king of the underworld.I recommend danmei while you're searching for other things, because originally being web serials makes them long enough to last until you find something new. If you ever feel like the BL you get interested in ends too short just remember on the other side we got webnovels with hundreds of chapters and centuries of pining. I wish I could recommend some of the modern setting and science fiction series since people usually complain about the fantasy settings, but I've not read very far into them. I really want to try Little Mushroom and that one about the police detective deep diving crimes in a machine that fucks his brain up (was it a Priest novel? Possibly), but fantasy and supernatural always get me. Also I feel like MXTX's novels have a monopoly on all the smut fics and fanart.
>>3753020>is lgbtq-centric stuff, like shimanami tasogare, acceptable? it has gay characters and romance, but it's not really bl at the end of the day.No.
>>3788009That's what I call the Internet's power of amplified memetic spread! >https://archive.vn/JP6jQSasuga anon.
>>3788249What? They said they liked Harada so I thought the non-con, corruption, and humiliation kinks would be a better fit than something lighter like QianQiu. I've not been on that site before, but if this snapshot is really only five days old they're a bit behind the trends since Tiktok kiddies went mad for Erha like a year or two ago as the new Killing Stalking rebellious phase.
>>3788381I'm not criticising you. I'm just wondering what the overlap between /cm/ and lolcow DOT farm may be (at least this spammer is on both>>>3786429>https://archive.vn/ry2SP).>Tiktok kiddiesI hate how this is a thing. What kind of brain damage do you need to have to sit through TikTok content AND ENJOY IT? But I digress.
I was reading A Cruel God Reigns, got most of the way through and really enjoying it as a BL manga that openly challenges the rape that is the norm most yaoi and tells a serious and dark but beautiful story. 9/10 at least But my mother died recently leaving just myself and my brother so now it hits too close to home for me to continue reading for quite a while.
>>3789305I thought the BL was the worst part of it. Like the first part felt like a genuine portrait of rape and abuse so suddenly trying to fit some weird romance with Ian was just ????
>>3777542I always hated this image because the Haikyuu!! one is fake, Hinata is so much shorter than Kageyama. It's not like there aren't moments in the show you could screencap that aren't gay looking so why use the fake one just for that. Sad!
>>3786555took me a bit, but i'm caught up now. i enjoyed it, but i see where people who don't are coming from. if you go into it expecting a traditional digimon show, you might be dissapointed, so thanks for the heads up. i had some problems with the main cast but nothing that deterred me from watching. i don't get people who sit through a 60+ episodes show just to be annoyed every episode. anyway, it's a nice show, i had fun watching and i really want to know how it concludes. >>3787717i definitely will keep an eye on this, but i think that the very detailed style and comedic tone are at odds sometimes. nevertheless a good read. >>3788243should have told me when i gave a fuck, i guess. also, a short public service announcement for those who missed it: two extra chapters for hikaru ga shinda natsu have been uploaded. https://mangadex.org/chapter/6c5f7f01-3157-4f20-8e5c-2d2a18bd44c1https://mangadex.org/chapter/cd8081fd-82a5-4142-96a0-819f7aa48cd4
>>3791925Glad to see you liked it, anon!
>>3792039the thing that really caught me by surprise was espimon. i absolutely hate characters like that, but i love this little shit like you wouldn't believe.what else are you watching? i have a little time to spare, so any rec would be welcome.
>>3792424I was bracing for Espimon to be annoying too, but he turned out to be a total bro in Ghost Game and an amusing miniboss in Dreamers.>what else are you watching?Iruma-kun S3 just wrapped up last week and that series has a lot of cute guys. I've been meaning to get into Bungo Stray Dogs at some point too, but probably not for a while.
>>3792455yeah, i was rolling my eyes hard when he was introduced. glad i was wrong.>I've been meaning to get into Bungo Stray Dogsme too. well, at least i wanted to give the anime a try. i got hold of a sample for the manga, but i couldn't get into it. the literary references went right over my head and had the feeling that there was something to be lost in translation. i just wasn't in the right mindset to give it a chance. sooo... iruma-kun it is. nothing i'd usually go for, but never say never, i guess. wish me luck.
>>3792482One other thing about Iruma-kun: its setting (the Netherworld) has a lot of the same quirky off-kilter charm as the Digital World. It's not exactly the same kind of series as Digimon, but it strikes a similar chord sometimes.
>>3789305I wonder about those into BL who don't like rape. It seems so ubiquitous I always forget it's a generally weird thing to chat about outside of yaoi circles.
>>3792569Danmei aside I can't remember a single BL I've read in the last 10 years that had rape in it. Dubcon is fairly common, but rape? Not something that usually happens in the premises I pick up. I guess I watched Banana Fish anime when it aired but if you want to be pedantic that wasn't published as "BL" originally.... I stand corrected by my own image folder while trying to find a picture. I did read MADK but the whole thing is an outlier of power play bullshitting. Rape was inevitable.
>>3792569Rape is definitely less common nowadays. Dubcon like that anon said yeah, but that's more common in JP het romance. Like drunk fucks here in the west would be dubcon but in JP not really. Uke also saying "yada" is also a fairly common thing but culturally he doesn't mean he doesn't want it especially if they agree to sex before, it's just used to show embarrassment. There are also 1m of BL without even sex.
>>3792809>>3792948Dubcon is rape imo. It's just semantics and anime logic.
>>3792952>Dubcon is rape imo. It's just semantics and anime logic.Did you read anything of what I wrote.
>>3792952Rape is sobbing, screaming, hurt feelings and all that shit. Dubcon is unexpected blowjob under the desk but it's predy gud actually. Dubcon is the bread and butter of romance fiction, because for narrative purposes you want the surprise and the do-I-really-like-him dilemmas while also getting exciting smut. Rape is used for angst and conflict, it works for melodrama, psychological fuckery and humiliation. Call it semantics, but it's worth having separate terms for the different themes and purposes. You want to pick up a story that gets feisty but is ultimately fluff and good feelings? Then everything up to rape is a better bet.Like >>3792948 says, the difference with rape requires context, so it really does colour the rest of the story. A bit of vocal protesting doesn't mean anything if the rest of the inner monologue is how they can't get seme-san's dick out of their mind because he's just that good. Some people are sick of that type of bottom though, which is why saying dubcon still helps weed them out if you want both parties to be desperate sluts.
>>3792511what am i supposed to say? iruma is cute and the show makes me laugh, but what really sold me is ameris love for shitty romance manga. i can relate to that for some reason. thanks for helping me set my expectations. i appreciate it, but i'd liken the show to soul eater rather than digimon, i think. >>3792569honestly, it's not hard to avoid. if online, don't read anything tagged with 'rape' and if in store, don't buy books with guys in suits on the cover. done.
>>3793106>i appreciate it, but i'd liken the show to soul eater rather than digimon, i think. My comparison was really about the worldbuilding. Both the Netherworld and the Digital World nail that delicate balancing act where they're just human-like enough to be relatable, but also just "off" enough to still clearly be the work of a different species.Soul Eater is a good comparison too because of the school setting and quirky visuals. Rosario to Vampire is an even better comparison now that I'm thinking harder about it. Almost the exact same premise, except RtV is more of a straight ecchi romcom that focuses on the ladies while Iruma-kun is closer to a traditional battle shonen and way more /cm/-friendly.
>>3793106Soul Eater and Iruma-kun are both set in Halloween town, where it is perpetually Halloween themed decor.>don't buy books with guys in suits on the coverHilariously accurate observation. Man in casual clothes with man in suit combo on the other hand.
>>3751268Homo or not, this chapter gave me feelings.
>>3793120you really give this a lot more thought than i do, that's for sure.>Soul Eater is a good comparison too because of the school setting and quirky visuals.some of the characters are quite similar as well, i think, but i'd have to go back and confirm my assumptioms. >RtV is more of a straight ecchi romcomyeah... i have to put my foot down and draw a line somewhere. not gonna watch that. not that i haven't watched my fair share of shows like that, but atm i'm just not interested in all that bouncing and jiggling. not that anything of that modern stuff will ever come close to agent aika anyways...>>3793135>Soul Eater and Iruma-kun are both set in Halloween town, where it is perpetually Halloween themed decor.that's... true. overall not my favorite setting, but it isn't a dealbreaker either. >Hilariously accurate observation. Man in casual clothes with man in suit combo on the other hand.it's more of a guideline than a rule, i'd say. is the pic you posted a book? couldn't find anything. >>3793931we could now have a debate about how "homo" a boy and his eldritch blob can be anyway, but the latest extra chapter makes their feelings a bit clearer. yoshiki is pretty pissed when he realizes that 'hikaru' has no clue what the sentence "i like you" can imply and 'hikaru' wonders if he likes yoshiki in the same way that the girl that confessed to him does.
>>3793956
>>3793956>yeah... i have to put my foot down and draw a line somewhere. not gonna watch that. Can't blame you there. Iruma-kun is way better.>we could now have a debate about how "homo" a boy and his eldritch blob can be anywayVery homo.
>>3793968>Iruma-kun is way better.i'm only a few episodes in and the plot starts to thicken a bit. definitely interested to see where it all goes.>Very homo.if you put it this eloquently, i have no choice but to concede that you are so right it leaves no room for debate. well said.
>>3793957>>3793931new chapter >>>/a/250285374
>>3794394thanks for linking. would have missed it today.
>>3793956the dialect in this translation is so charming for some reason. i hope it gets kept that way.
Any non-HS romance BLs recommendations that I can get in physical English? Cute artstyles +++
Given is ending soon, so....how do you feel about it?I felt like too much time was spent on side couples and the main one is hardly even in a relationship, very, very superficial one
>>3795238I read up to like chapter 40, but after they revealed that yet another pair of side characters were actually gay all along and have secret crushes on each other, I kind of just tuned out. Should've just focused on the main band.
I know you guys already past is yoshiki gay or not but based on personal experience i can confirm this is totally a gay behavior.
>>375335613 sentinels should be added here. There's a canon gay romance
>>3795239It's a typical bl fantasy where everyone is gay. Definitely makes you take everything less seriously, but tolerance once you are used to this. The problem was the fact that they did not fucking need this spotlight while MCs barely interact
>>3795238Yeah, the side couples had more time and the main one felt just like they could break up anytime. That, for me, it could have been good. Uenoyama had that vibe that he was good enough without Mafuyu at his side.
