>>3682492since when is Kircheis taller than Reinhard?
>>3684003Since forever anon
>>3684003Kircheis is supposed to be notably taller.
>>3679564He's asleep right.
>>3684305Of course.
>>3684003"Looking up at his faithful subordinate, Reinhard answered, "Yes, I love the stars." Then he added, "Have you gotten taller again?""I'm the same 190 centimeters that I was two months ago, Excellency. I don't think I'm going to grow any taller.""Seven centimeters taller than me is certainly plenty," Reinhard replied. In the sound of his voice was the ring of an overcompetitive schoolboy. Kircheis smiled faintly. Until about six years ago, there has been virtually no difference in their heights. But when Kircheis's growth spurt had begun to put a distance between himself and Reinhard, the blond-haired lad had been genuinely frustrated. "Are you going to leave your friend behind and just grow up by yourself?' he had sometimes complained. That was the childish side of Reinhard, of which only Kircheis - and one other - knew."-Legend of the Galactic Heros: Dawn, by Yoshiki TanakaSo, since 1982.
"Reinhard stretched out his long, supple fingers and playfully tugged at his best friend's hair, as red as if dyed with molten rubies. Reinhard would do this sort of thing from time to time when no one else was around. During his boyhood, he would describe Kircheis's hair according to his whim: whenever they were quarreling -- a state that never lasted very long -- he would say mean things like, "What's with that red hair? It looks like blood." Then after they made up, he would praise it, calling it "really pretty, like a burning flame.""Tanaka-san....

Golden Wings is a C U R S ED adaptation but it does have the most fujo bait (2nd would be Gaiden).
>>3685713Don't worry, I'm sure he'll come back fine from that meeting with Reinhard. Those were definitely real Imperials, right?
I started watching logh yesterday. Going to watch episode 2 now. Wish me luck

>>3686081I finished episode 26 just now. Please tell me it’s worth to keep watching it…
>>3687825yes Episode 27 is unironically a great episode and one of the most tense battles in the series. Also Julian as a fighter pilot and plenty of Dusty, Poplan and Konev screen time
>>3687825If you don't find it worth it, you are tasteless.
>>3688309Yeah, I agree. To be honest, I was going to keep it watching it anyway because logh will kill my anime enjoyment. I’ve watched over 400 and compared to logh, the 95% are fucking trash. Logh made me realize how low my standards were for anime. I posted that because that Kircheis scene was too painful, I didn’t expect him to be gone so soon ;_;
>>3688514I think it's fine to enjoy some not-so-good anime for what it is: mere entertainment. But yes, I wish there were more great animes like LOGH. >I posted that because that Kircheis scene was too painful, I didn’t expect him to be gone so soon ;_;He will always be in our hearts. Bear with the pain my friend. And know there is another anime with young Kircheis and Reinhard for when you're done with this one.
I just started the novels! I highly recommend it. “I’m going to be a soldier,” he had said. “It’s the fastest way to get ahead. And I have to get ahead in the world so I can set Annerose free. Kircheis, come to the same school as me, won’t you? They’re all louts at the Children’s Academy.”His parents were not opposed to the idea. Perhaps they had been hoping that their son would be able to get ahead in the world that way, or perhaps they had realized that their son had already been stolen away from them bythe brother and sister from the house next door. At any rate, Kircheis made the decision in his youth that he would walk the same road as Reinhard.
>>3689859Yeah, I'm the anon that was previously posting bits from the novel, and I really enjoyed it. It was surprisingly easy and fun to read. (I'll post more when the library gets me the next one. It's in the county library, what's the hold-up?!)I can't believe that all of LoGH, including the novels, is officially available in English. If you'd told me a decade ago that in 2022 both LoGH and SRW would be officially released in the US I would've told you to work on your trolling because it was too transparent.
>>3690011Lucky you! I got them in pdf online (it was a bit complicated to buy online and get it shipped... + I don't live in an English speaking country). Anyway, it is partly thanks to you that I started reading them, so thanks!
>>3690154Yeah, I imagine that getting them outside the US would be a pain in the ass. They're kind of a pain even in it. But they're good! I'm glad I got someone to read them. And speaking of..."...but just as he was about to leave the room, Julian said, "Excellency, wait! You've forgotten your gun." It was still lying on hios desk where he'd tossed it earlier."Don't need it, don't need it," the young admiral said irritably, waving away the suggestion."But going around unarmed is too--""Supposing I take a gun," Yang said, "as supposing I fire it... Do you really think I'll even hit the guy?""Er...no, sir.""Well then, there's no point in my taking it, is there?""Yang's the best.
>>3691502>Yang's the best.Indeed.I'm attracted to Reinhard's personality nonetheless. I have been gifted an original frame of Reinhard from the anime. I treasure it dearly.
“I hate them all. Rudolf the Great, his descendants, everything they’ve brought forth … the Goldenbaum Dynasty, the Galactic Empire itself.”“The Galactic Empire—by which I mean the Goldenbaum Dynasty—must be destroyed. If it were possible, I would destroy it with my own hands. However, I lack the acumen, the power. What I can do is assist in the rise of a new conqueror, that’s all. I’m speaking of you, Your Excellency: Imperial Marshal Reinhard von Lohengramm.”
"[Reinhard's] age at that time had been twenty, and in his slender figured could be seen an exquisite balance of grace, strength, and courage. His gently curling, brilliantly golden hair was longer than it had been in the previous year and was now worn in a style that resembled a lion's name. There was not a blemish to be found on his porcelain skin, and there was an exquisite grace to his features. In his person was monopolized all the favor of creation's goddess. Only the flashes of light in his ice-blue eyes made them too sharp, too intense, to liken to an angel's -- unless perhaps one meant the eyes of the fallen angel Lucifer, who had longed to surpass God himself.""'There's really no need to drive the nobles into a corner," Reinhard said, as his supple fingertips toyed with his friend's red hair. "It's enough just to make them thing they're going to be cornered."" Tanaka-san....!(it is not entirely clear how separate the second line is from the scene right in front of it, so when I first read it I thought Reinhard was playing with Kircheis's hair right in front of Oberstein)
"Von Schönkopf cared not a whit whether the Free Planets Alliance was saved or destroyed, but if Yang were to perish, the unfolding of history from that point forward would certainly lose some of its charm."
>>3688514I haven't watched an anime since February of 2017, the last one i watched was this one, so yeah, it can have that effect
"Until now*, Reinhard and Kircheis had shared one and the same sense of justice. Would the day come when they might diverge, even if one could never exist without the other...?"*WesterlandHave to admit, I do like the novel version where Oberstein convinces Reinhard to let Westerland happen out of realpolitik over the OVA where he basically forces Reinhard's hand. It lends more weight to what happens after if Reinhard actually did make that choice himself.
"So long as humans beings kept believing in Gods and justice, there was no chance of strife disappearing."I don't have it in me to type up the entirety of Yang's "war isn't between good and evil" rant, even though it's very good and everyone should read it. Sorry.
The two of them looked at their cards. Both discarded three apiece, then drew. Next to speak was von Reuentahl."This has been bothering me for some time now, but our chief of staff seems worried about Marquis von Lohengramm being so close to Kircheis -- in his personal as well as public life. It's that dea of his that a number two is harmful. Theoretically, he has a point, but...""Von Oberstein?" There was little affection in Mittermeier's voice. "He's a clever man. I'll give him that. But he's got a bad habit if stirring up trouble when there wasn't any before. Things have gone well so far, so why force a change just because something doesn't fit a theory? Especially when it's human relationships we're talking about."
Does anyone have that really cool car scene fanart? The one with Reinhard in the middle of the backseat and Emil leaning onto him and everyone looking intense. I swear I had saved that before but can't seem to find it.
>>3695275Is the first manga adaption worth reading? I kind of like the art style (it reminds me of Keiko Takemiya) but Golden Wings was too Shojo for me. The second half was closer to Sailor Moon than LOGH in tone and style.
>>3697517I have no idea, I haven't read all the adaptions. I just noticed the novels were officially translated so I could get them through the library. But speaking of..."Reinhard stood in darkness. His ice-blue eyes saw neither the admirals nor the man who had tried to kill him. All he could see was this friend -- his redheaded best friend... who had just saved his life.He had saved his life -- of course he had; no matter the time, no matter the place place, Kircheis had always come running to save him. Ever since the day they met as children, Kircheis had always been his red-haired friend -- protecting him from all the enemies he'd made, listening to his problems, putting up with his selfishness... His friend? No, he was more than a friend...more than a brother... He was /Seigfried Kircheis/! And he had tried to treat him like all the other admirals. If Kircheis has been carrying his gun, the assassin would have been shot dead the instant he gabbed the hand cannon. Not one drop of Kircheis' blood would have been spilled. It was all his fault. Kircheis was on the floor bleeding, and it was all his fault. "
>>3697517It has no english translation, so unless if you know Japanese, you're fucked. The art is pretty though

Yang, about Trunhit: "And then I came to myself and felt terrified. Because I'd be willing to bet a long time ago, Rudolf von Goldenbaum -- and more recently, that bunch who staged the coup -- thought exactly the same thing and arrived at exactly the same conclusion: /Only I can stop this/. It's utterly paradoxical, but the thing that turned Rudolf into a cruel dictator as his sense of duty and responsibility toward the whole human race."
What Yang did receive was a number of ostentatiously named medals: Free Warrior First Class, Glory of the Republic, the Heinessen Memorial Award for Outstanding Military Service, and more. When he got home, Yang noticed that the little boxes the medls came in were just the right size, so he used them to keep bars of soap in and tossed the medals themselves into a corner of his locker. Julian supposed that the only reason he didn't throw them away was that he was planning to eventually sell them off to an antique dealer and use the money to buy history books and liquor.
>>3697521For the sake of power, for authority, he has tried to treat his other self as a mere lackey and had received horrific retribution for such poverty of spirit.
Returned vol 3 to the library before copying anything down, oopsIt could pretty much be summed up with "IF ONLY KIRCHEIS WERE HERE" though

"Hilda had answered well. Last year, she'd taken over something of the late Siegfried Kircheis's irreplaceable value to society.""Hilda stood before the gravestone, her white cheeks wet with tears. MY FRIEND. For how long would people rightly and fully comprehend the weight of those words? Reinhard had repaid the redheaded comrade who'd saved his life many times over: as imperial marshal, minister of military affairs, and, lastly, commander in chief of imperial forces, he'd devoted himself to the important task of being third imperial commander, as so many admirals before him had dreamed of becoming themselves. Reinhard was still in mourning over his redheaded friend, and for him the gravestone's inscription carried a deeper meaning than what was written there."Tanaka-san...!
The fourth volume has some weird editing errors." Erwin Josef II, along with Alex Caselnes, had already entered Free Planets Alliance territory in the middle of July." (Caselnes was back on Iserlohn)Mittermeier inviting Ruenthal over for breakfast: "[Mittermeier's] wife, Evangeline, was a gourmet cook, or so he was always saying, and Mittermeier had yet to partake of her specialty -- a dish she called "Gale Wolf"."
ngl the manga covers look pretty great
