>>3629786>What's the deal with these gay Chinese swordboys?Mo Xiang Tong Xiu (MXTX) is the author of several popular Chinese danmei (boy's love) web novels. To date, she has completed three full novels, each fully independent stories from the others. All of them take place in similar Xianxia settings, a genre of Chinese fantasy that combines elements of Daoism, mythology and martial arts. MXTX is not the only author writing danmei novels in this style, but her novels are very popular, each having multiple adaptions, and they offer a good entry point into the genre. It is worth noting that while each of the novels are canonically male/male romances, the animations (donghua) and the live-action dramas are considerably edited due to Chinese censorship laws. Additionally, MDZS and SVSSS both feature nsfw chapters, but TGCF does not.Terminology:>CultivationThe fictional practice of seeking immortality through martial training and spiritual enlightenment. >>3629787The Novels>The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System (SVSSS)/Ren Zha Fanpai Zijiu Xitong (2014)When web-novel nerd Shen Yuan dies he find himself transported into the body Shen Qingqiu, the villain of a Xianxia harem novel that he despises. He realizes that he must change the story to avoid being tortured to death by the protagonist Luo Binghe. But The System has other ideas, not allowing him to act too out-of-character to avoid derailing the plot. What follows is a delicate balancing act of Shen Qingqiu trying to stay true to his character while trying to ensure Luo Binghe has the happy ending he always felt he deserved.>Mo Dao Zu Shi (MDZS)/The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation (2015-2016)In life, Wei Wuxian was feared by the world for his unorthodox path of demonic cultivation. 13 years after his death he is summoned into the body of a lunatic looking to use him for revenge, and is unwillingly taken into the custody of Lan Wangji, a cultivator from his past with whom he shared a contentious relationship. Together they unravel a mystery involving a vengeful dead body, and truths about their tragic histories come to light.>Tian Guan Ci Fu (TGCF)/Heaven Official's Blessing (2017)The twice-disgraced god Xie Lian ascends for a third time after spending centuries as a humble scrap-collector. He is consigned to investigate demonic disturbances, and finds himself assisted by the passionately devoted ghost king Hua Cheng. Their investigations lead to discoveries of corruption among fellow deities, and the truth about Xie Lian's fall from grace and his connection to Hua Cheng is slowly revealed.
>>3629132You know who Kamiyan is absolutely perfect for? WWX.
Unpopular opinion but FengQing > HuaLian > QuanYin > BeefLeaf
>>3629793THAT would have probably been quite fitting, true.
>>3629786I just got into Heaven Official's Blessing show/manhua/novel so I'd really appreciate knowing if there's a source I can find the official art in high quality like the OP pic is.
>>3629944I rarely save my sources, but judging from the filename I'm guessing I pulled that one from Zerochan.STARember uploads art to her weibo account all the time. That's probably where whoever uploaded that image to Zerochan probably got it. Her profile is https://weibo.com/starember . Unfortunately, without an account you can only view posts within the last year, and I haven't figured out how to make an overseas account yet.If you do pull images from weibo and want to get the highest resolution, you should open the image in a new tab. The url will look something like https ://wx1 .sinaimg .cn/mws690/[image id tag].jpg. Change the part that says "mws890" to "large" and it should give you the highest resolution. It also works if you are doing it from a thumbnail. I have a handy greasemonkey plugin that does this for me automatically. She also has a lofter account, which she doesn't post with as frequently, but when she does the images you can get through it seem to be even higher resolution than the weibo versions.
And speaking of STARember they just posted this within the last day or so.
Dumping some STARember for good measure.
>>3630120ignore that comment, I was having captcha problems
They've also done some MDZS fanart.
>>3630122Really love how E-Ming looks in the manhua
>>3630125STARember makes everything look beautiful. Even Jun Wu. Even freaking Ke Mo.
>>3630107Thanks a lot, that's the exact kind of information I wanted.>>3630111Very appreciated! Her style is so beautiful.
>>3630138Happy to help out a fellow image hound! I don't trust other people to save things in full quality, so I usually like to grab them from the source.
I finished chapter 111 of MDZS a week ago and lost all motivation to keep reading it. It feels like everything has been resolved, but by page count it seems like I'm at the place where it should be ramping up to the climax. Did anyone else feel this why when you read the novel? Is the rest of the book just falling action?
>>3630537Yeah, there are like two actual chapters that wrap up the few remaining loose ends, and then the rest of the chapters are extras that pretty much just exist as fun little fanservice-y moments (and smut). Worth the read if you care about that sort of thing.
>>3630607Jin Ling a cute!
>>3630567Knowing that the rest is all bonus chapters is helpful, actually. That's a lot of extra content. I'll just read through it at my leisure.Having read both TGCF and MDZS now it's interesting seeing the similarities and differences. It seems like there were a lot of ideas present in MDZS that she carried over and developed more in TGCF. Jiang Cheng feels like a rough-draft version of Mu Qing (the final edit is better). In TGCF the big plot revelations were much more dramatic and the build-up to them felt more hard-earned, if that makes sense. And the climax of MDZS felt a bit underwhelming after how buck fucking wild things got in the last few chapters of TGCF. I think TGCF also did a much better job tying together the events of the past and the events of the present, which is kind of funny since TGCF has a timeskip of 800 years while MDZS's timeskip is only 13.That said, I think I preferred Wei Wuxian as a protagonist over Xie Lian. As much as I love XL, WWX felt like a much more active agent in his story. He may have felt like the choices he made were the only moral option available to him, but at least he was making choices. XL, on the other hand, did literally nothing wrong and just had a whole bunch of terrible shit happen to him. WWX is also just a lot funnier.I'm curious to read SVSSS next. The premise definitely sounds a lot different from the other two. I wonder how it compares.
>>3630844SVSSS definitely has a different... energy about it, still a great read, but its a given that with the MC being from the modern day, it ends up poking fun at the melodrama a LOT more and makes the story a lot more comedic, despite still getting heavy at times.
>>3630844May I please get source on that pic? I’m not getting a useful google or yandex hit.
>>3630934Here you go, anon.https://twitter.com/asis_5475/status/1230119799671246850There's so many brilliant artists in this fandom. I wish more of them made it easy to track down their works by consistently using signatures.
>>3630952Thank you very much, anon! Agreed on the quality of art and abundance. I’m glad I got in on this when at least one property (S3) is still airing.
Guys, how do you get your shixiong to notice you without making him resent you to the point of wishing you dead?
>tfw you will never have shixiong's love and affection
Does anyone know the name of the artist who draws these official MDZS illustrations?
>>3631819I'm a dumbass who posted this, and then looked at it more closely and saw "illustrator higga" written in the top right corner...I guess there are several artists. I can't read this one.
>>3631819If you search for "Higga 陈情令" (that's Chinese for Chen Qing Ling, MDZS's live action drama name) or "Higga 魔道祖师" (that's just "Mo Dao Zu Shi" in Chinese, image results will be for the donghua) - you can get more of her art. Freaking love these Nie sect blue-greens.
>>3631821>can't read this one何何舞 - hehewuIf you wanna learn how to read the unreadable (words in images): 1. Screenshot and crop out whatever Chinese (or JP/KR etc) text you need to read as cleanly as possible without English words or partial characters in the image. Erase those out if you need to. 2. Upload the image with text into an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) engine like https://www.onlineocr.net/ or Google Translate app (Android and iOS).3. Select Chinese Simplified (or the language you're looking at). Things from China are usually in Simplified CN. From HK, it's traditional CN, iirc. You'll usually get the text out in OCR, in this case, "何何舞".Popped that into google and got their Weibo link - weibo.com/hehewu. Alternatively, Google Translate also transliterates "何何舞" to "He He Wu" (corresponds to their username on Weibo). They're also @lSIS4jaCe5LNuSx on twitter but seem a lot more active on Weibo.
>>3631909>>3631910Thank you anon, that's really helpful!
>>3632426>>3632427>>3632428>>3632430who and what are these boys from
>>3632465Quan Yizhen and Yin Yu from TGCF.
>>3632507It's too bad their appearance is so far off in the manhua. I think they both appear in book three, don't they? Yin Yu's first appearance is in the gambling den arc, but his face reveal was later, wasn't it?
Yin Yu as described in the book: face so plain and boring that he looks fake.Yin Yu when fanartists draw him: pretty, delicate features with tired eyes.Ah well, I guess that's fine.
TGCF has fucking good side characters. Here's a moody Black Water. It's hard to post pictures of beef and/or leaf because so many of them are in female form.
>>3632891Agreed. I'll dump what (little) m/m beefleaf I have.
>beefleaf>cucumberplaneThe MXTX fandom is a gift.
I have a thing for HC grabbing XL's waist, it's so cute and hot and happens so often in the novel too.
