Mo Xiang Tong Xiu (MXTX) is the author of several popular Chinese danmei (boy's love) web novels. To date, she has completed three full novels, each fully independent stories from the others. All of them take place in similar Xianxia settings, a genre of Chinese fantasy that combines elements of Daoism, mythology and martial arts. MXTX is not the only author writing danmei novels in this style, but her novels are very popular, each having multiple adaptions, and they offer a good entry point into the genre. It is worth noting that while each of the novels are canonically male/male romances, the animations (donghua) are considerably edited due to Chinese censorship laws. Additionally, MDZS and SVSSS both feature nsfw chapters, but TGCF does not.Resources posted below.

>>3616329Oh hell, I forgot to link the last thread >>3585402Also, please tell me if I've gotten anything wrong. I know fuck-all about Chinese, and I've only read one of these novels and watched half a donghua of the other, so I'm sure I fucked something up.
Thank you OP! This is a vast ocean of canon/fan works and I've only just finished The Untamed tv show.
I'm the person who wrote the info post in the last thread. Well done OP, those synopses are good.I wish more people would read the books.
>>3616400The live action? Do you think you're gonna read the novel or watch the dongua? Personally, I'm not interested in the live action adaptations, but I did see that they started filming one for TGCF recently that they are going to call "Eternal Faith".
>>3616507Thank you for posting all of these links! I've been curious about this stuff out for a while now, but wasn't sure where to start, so your post was really helpful. I have a feeling most people new to these series' will want to start with the donghua, but I felt like they don't do a great job introducing complete newbies to the Xianxia setting, which is why I wanted to expand on it a little more. Maybe by making it more accessible we can get more people on board with the novels.Xianle trio a cute. As much as I love HuaLian's 800 years of pining, I really wish FengQing would just fuck their issues out already like a pair of rational adults. Nothing beats a good old fashion enemies-to-lovers.
>>3616606Yep, live action. I kind of go back and forth between live action tv and anime. I tried watching the TGCF donghua but it wasn't clicking for me. I actually finished Word of Honor (live action) and then moved onto The Untamed (live action). I keep seeing a lot of BTS shots of the TGCF / Eternal Faith live action so I'm looking forward to that eventually. As for the next media to consume, I think I'm gonna try reading the novel, albeit slowly. The manhua is exciting too but I don't think it's fully scanlated yet so eventually I'll hit the end of what's available. I do see the donghua's getting Season 3 in August. Will wait for a few eps to pile up.
>>3616639I don't blame you for not clicking with the TGCF dongua. I felt the same way when I watched it, but I'm glad I gave the novel a chance. The beginning is really exposition heavy, which is difficult to adapt. The dongua rushes through only the most important parts in a blink-and-you-miss-it sort of way, and it leaves out a lot of the details that give everything flavor. Like how the Heavens have an Upper and a Middle Court, but no Lower Court, because when it was called that it offended everyone's ego so they decided to change it. Or MQ camping out in the communication array to make snide comments and being such a petty asshole that he'll give his followers nightmares if they make his statues too ugly. They cut out the whole exchange XL had with his Guoshi after he caught the falling baby HC where he refused to pay penance for disrupting the festival because he hadn't done anything wrong, showing that at 16 he thought he knew more than his sagely teacher and didn't care if he upset the gods. That was like, chapter one information that sets up his whole character. Then they made a bunch of really questionable directorial decisions that made things even more confusing, like making the first scene about an inconsequential character that dies before the story begins, moving the prologue to the end of the second episode and exposition-dumping the bare-essentials of XL's background over loud whooshing noise so that you can't even hear it. There's one scene that pisses me off where, in the novel, XL tries to eat a bun that had rolled in the dirt, but in the dongua they clearly show him catching the bun before it reaches the ground. Why would they change that? The Netflix translation is also extremely bad. They translate HC's "gege"s to "Lian" (not even Xie Lian) and "cultivator" to "taoist priest".I enjoyed the MDZS dongua a lot more. I'm sure they left just as much out, but I didn't feel like I was missing anything watching it.
>>3616852Obsessed with the idea MQ loudly taunting "General Big Dick" as often as he can to get a rise out of FX, being extremely obvious to everyone present except the two of them and making the entire Heavenly Court deeply uncomfortable. Do you remember that time he suddenly started reciting a poem about FX's massive cock completely unprompted?I bet FX's an extremely tender and gentle lover. He's probably too afraid of sleeping with anyone for fear that he'll hurt them. That'd annoy the hell out of MQ. Can you imagine MQ biting and scratching and insulting him until FX loses his patience and decides to put him in his place? I bet the only times in his life that MQ's ever been honest about his feelings is when FX's got him gagging for his giant Ju Yang.I need more eastern art of these two. I've only got tumblr art because it's easier to search.
I'm still on this shit. FengQing trying to tear each others throats out by the teeth and the only force powerful enough to break them apart is Dianxia trying to eat some garbage he found on the ground. Shouting "don't eat that, it's dirty!" in unison like he's a toddler that wandered off while his parents were bickering. I love them all.
I'm enjoying Scumbag System entirely too much. Shit's hilarious and I generally dislike isekai.

>>3617330You're welcome! I came across this website called duitang that seems to be one of those aggregator/blog things where users catch and post weibo pics and talk about them (they're probably not the artists). https://www.duitang.com/blogs/tag/?name=%E9%A3%8E%E4%BF%A1%E6%85%95%E6%83%85%E7%94%9C%E6%96%87 Tag = 风信慕情甜文
>>3617344I have a feeling I'm not posting the full res but these are the best I can catch for now. If you click a picture, you go into the blog post with it. If you click the pic again, you get the full res the user posted. I assume weibo or lofter's where you can get the actual full res. The app had a few different clicks before I could get any full res but I've not used weibo in a while. I also got locked out of my main account due to inactivity.
>>3617899Damn. This confirms my shitty phone resizes everything down and I can only post from a desktop or iPad.
Agreed on TGCF donghua, I'm a novel fan but season one was kind of a mess, hopefully the live action ends up better. The guy they got for HC is cute
>>3618078Xie Lian is cute too
I don't know why I'm obsessed with this purple turbo-virgin.
For those interested, it was recently announced that there will be official English physical versions of all three books.Source: http://sevenseasdanmei.com/

>>3616923I take back what I said about the TGCF donghua. I kept watching past the first few minutes and got sucked into the story. In episode 4 now and I like it. And I see, so many questionable choices. Hope the LA is more faithful. Their costumes are looking very nice from the BTS I keep seeing on Instagram.
Season 2 of Scumbag System confirmed. https://twitter.com/cuchallain/status/1423230096521850887
>>3619552LA seems lovely
>>3619320Oh cool! Pre-orded one of each. I'll probably wait to read svsss until the official translation comes out, since opinions seems to be that the fan translations are dodgy. I hope they don't try to localize things too much when they translated.
I'm about halfway through the MDZS novel now, and the donghua really moved things around, didn't it?Drunk Lan Wangji is pretty cute.
>>3624336A lot of people bitch about the placement of the flashbacks in the original novel, so it's no wonder why they got mashed together in one big chunk right up front for the donghua/LA. Personally, I still prefer the way the novel did it, but to each their own.
>>3624336Drunk LWJ in the MDZS Q chibi cartoon is the cutest yet saddest thing I've seen.
>>3624446>>3624447I genuinely do not know how to feel about these characters. Xue Yang is one of the most buckwild insane characters I think I know. What is his fucking deal?
>>3625042Their fics are wild - either saccharine sweet AU floof or the most inventive and hardcore bdsm, no in-between.

>>3625151I used to love their Stoki fics and MCU meta. I've been meaning to read their Yunmeng bros fics but I'll also add these to my list too.
Apologies for this request but does anyone have the fics of xiuzhe from ao3? They've deleted everything. Thank you!

Loving the fanart of Pei Ming's manhua design. Speaking of manwhores.
I hope they don't shelve all the wuxia/xianxia danmei in production during this CEnt shake-up.

Kinda disappointed that Jun Fukuyama didn't try to go for a deeper voice when voicing proper Hua Cheng vs the voice he uses for San Lang in the jap dub of TGCF, considering the chinese VA seemed to do that, he ends up sounding a bit youthful for the older version of Hua Cheng.
>>3628636Do you have a link to where I can watch/download the Japanese dub? I was kind of curious. I don't know how I feel about Kamiyan for XL, but FukuJun seemed like a no-brainer for HC.
>>3628559This seems like a fat load of drama that I have absolutely no context for. Is the problem here the fans, the actors, the Chinese government, or all three at once?
>>3628689All three at once, in varying amounts. Fanbases are cultlike, have too much clout, keep making trouble for actors and companies. Actors step out of line (either crimes like rape, tax evasion or like zzh - the odd Japanese war shrine visit), cause fanbases to go berserk, government has to step in too curb online wank, keep actors in line. Best way to do it is curb the source of the actors’ and media companies’ clout - so pull down or halt dramas, adverts, super trending topics on weibo/baidu, ranking charts etc.... Is what I gather.
>>3628690What the fuck? It seem like everyone is in the wrong here. Did that post say that an actress pushed somebody to their death? That's insane. Why can't people just enjoy things and not be weird about it? Just because you feel passion for something doesn't entitle you to the right to harass the creators. But if the actors are really doing the crimes they say they are I can't feel much sympathy for them either. That's wild.
>>3628688I've just been downloading the [Ohys-Raws] release of them on Nyaa.siAnd yeah, Fukuyama does a mostly fantastic job at HC, he just plays him a bit young in his SL form and I just kind of expected a bit of a pitch change for actual HC.Kamiyan IMO was a miscast though, I generally like his VA work but his voice just doesn't really fit XL, sounds too sly/overtly casual and comedic, when at least in my mind (and following the chinese VA's) it'd work to get someone with a lighter/softer tone.
>>3629054Sly and comedic is exactly how I'd describe Kamiyan's voice. It's so distictive that I'll never be able to disassociate it from characters like Zetsubou Sensei, Araragi, Levi, Yato and Choromatsu, which is why he's much better being type cast into those specific kinds of roles. I guess he's done Natsume as well, who is a similar type of character to Xie Lian, but even that never felt like a great fit to me.If I were in charge of re-casting the role I'd probably give it to Takahiro Sakurai. He would fit Xie Lian so perfectly.
>>3629054>>3629059Really? I think Xie Lian's JP voice is fine. I mean, the CN one is obviously way better, but still. Then again, I hardly ever pay attention to the VAs themselves and their other work, so it might just be me.
>>3629112It's not bad enough that it makes the show unwatchable or anything, I'm still reasonably enjoying it, but I still 100% think that Kamiyan wasn't the right match for XL's character. The chinese VA got his aloof-ness/light-hearted kind of personality + humor down a lot better IMO.
>>3616331Is there any mega/tor/download links for the TGCF manhua? I never trust anything to stay online. I'd like to avoid using discord, if possible.
Anyone know how long the manhua author usually goes on break for? I heard that the upcoming chapter is going to be the last one before the break, but with the quality of the art I'm guessing its going to be a while until it comes back.
