Man breakfast. You fellas try out any good tins lately? I've been enjoying these Sabor Do Mar tins, the fillets are really nice.

Been a while since I had some good tinned mackerel, and I was just wondering about changing up my breakfast. Thanks for the reminder anon.
>>
>>19926015
I used to say this until I got an ulcer. Now I can't even eat food without being in pain for hours. Can't drink black coffee. Can't drink lemonade. Nothing acidic. Can't eat anything with fat in it. Have to take 40mg pantoprazole every day, sometimes twice. Always living with the fear the ulcer will split open and you'll bleed to death without even noticing. Checking the toilet for blood every time you take a shit.

Be careful. Take Tylenol instead of Advil if you can.
>>
>>19926100
What gives him away? The cigs? Or is the mackerel brand a Quebec giveaway? To be fair I've only seen them at Segal's, so if I catch this fag there next time I'm out for cheap deenz, I'll kick his ass.

What led to you developing the ulcer? And what were the symptoms you had before you were diagnosed?

my main meal for the past year has been sardines and rice. ill sometimes add sour cream to it and always add cholula sauce. its just so fucking good.
>>
>>19926168
In the months leading up to the ulcer I noticed I was getting acid reflux and heartburn from everything I ate. Crackers? Heartburn. Drank a soda? Heartburn. One day I ate a granola bar at work and I stood up to walk out of the room and I felt like I was stabbed in the stomach, which was worse when laying down, stretching, bending over, or taking very full breaths. Then I had stabbing pain for about the next month that slowly got a little better every day. It's now months later and on PPIs the pain is now mostly a dull ache when I eat something acidic or fatty (fat takes longer to digest and causes the most stomach acid production).

I recklessly took ibuprofen for chronic headaches with a careless attitude. I'm 29 and I probably went through a 500 pill bottle of ibuprofen every 6 months during bad years. I also ate a lot of fatty foods which can by themselves erode your stomach with acid production.

I basically did everything you shouldn't do thinking I was invincible and now I'm 130 pounds because just eating food causes me pain.
>>
>>19926179
Thanks, anon. I'm 25 but I've been having awful stomach pains on and off for a few years with a vague correlation to what/when I ate. It tends to come and go, so I've started to wonder whether I have some kind of intolerance. I don't think I have any of the major causes for ulcers, like over-use of ibuprofen or cigarette smoking, but I'll talk to a doctor about it soon.

Do you have any hopes for healing? Or do you have long-term complications from the ulcer?
>>
>>19926190
It's taking longer to heal than it should but it is getting slowly better. Most ulcers are caused by H Pylori infection in your stomach. My next step if it doesn't heal is an endoscopy and an h pylori test, with fingers crossed that it's not cancer I guess. I don't have any complications except pain.

I have a friend in Russia who had erosive esophagitis and they don't have PPIs there I guess so he just took bismuth/pepto bismol 30 mins before meals every day. Bismuth is antibacterial so if you do have h pylori it helps fight it, but the best thing is obviously just real antibiotics.
>>
>>19926190
P. S. pepto / bismuth makes your shit turn black. When you wipe your ass it's going to look like dried blood (black, tarry stool). So don't freak out if you take it and this happens.
>>
>>19926212
>>19926222
I've been wondering about H. Pylori, and I'm well acquainted with Pepto. I've been keeping bottles of the stuff around at home and my office for a while now.

Thanks again, and good luck with the recovery.

I could tell he was Canadian by the nutrition label being in English and French, and the cigarette paper not having any of those FSC lines on it, as well as the pack itself being absent due to their laws requiring all sorts of lovely medical pictures decorating them.
My suspicion of being specifically French Canadian simply came from the vibe of eating nothing but a can of mack, a handful of advil, a cup of coffee, and a cigarette for breakfast, and thinking it was cool so he posted it online.
>>19926264
>Hey man I'm not fucking French fuck you.

I've always associated them with the FSC chemical, and wasn't sure if leafs required it so that was part of my hunch.
Also on the French thing; this is a bit more obscure, but the official flower of Quebec is the Iris Versicolor which often has a deep purple color similar to the lighter which I thought may have been a sort of esoteric reference, but thought that was a bit too much of a stretch.

This whole thing looks like a bait post. Mackerel in sunflower oil? Terrible oil, the mackerel itself gets completely washed out in the 'spice' and the oil combined with black coffee (stupid) and the advil liquigel caps (even more stupid) is as others have said a recipe for a disastrous meal. Here's how to fix it.

- kippers in water instead of mackerel in oil
- bayer aspirin or aspirin powder
- maple syrup + whole milk in coffee
- handrolled short bali shag cig unfiltered.

My breakfast for the past year has been a tin of picrel, and a cup of plain chobani yogurt. Recently added a banana to the daily routine. I have been eating sardines consistently since 2018 and have tried a lot of different brands and other tinned fish / shellfish in general. Santo Amaro's in tomato sauce are the best for everyday consumption imo, they're the least expensive for the quality, and are consistently in stock on amazon. I was on the King Oscar's for a while but now I don't care for them. This breakfast isn't the most flavorful, but it is nutritious and I never feel like I over eat or under eat. I'm also able to perform daily morning tasks while eating this meal, and there is very little cleanup afterwards. Who else /deenz for breakfast?

For purely intuitive reasons I have refused to eat bread for breakfast for some time. This feeling is now beginning to fade and I will take your idea as inspiration. Sardines + ezekial bread + some kind of cheese sounds like an excellent combination.
>>19927680
Making the jump from kippers to actual sardines might be weird at first, but give it a few goes if you don't like the whole fish concept at first.
The best advice I received regarding sardines was to start with the shit brands and work you way up to the nicer ones. This way you know and can appreciate what constitutes a good sardine. Beach cliff is very low down there, next try King Oscars. Doesn't have to be a twelve pack, just buy one or two tins and note the differences between the beach cliffs. From King Oscar you can really start expanding into the higher end brands. Try Riga sprats if you want, but they're not very good imo, and the waters of the Baltic Sea are kind of polluted. Brunswick and season are just alright, better than beach cliff. Wild Planet is a solid middle of the road product. Sardines from Spain are very good (Matiz and others), Portuguese sardines (Nuri, Santo Amaro, and others) will always be the gold standard. Sardines from these countries are larger and will have a crunchy spine. It's a weird texture at first, but totally edible and I have come to enjoy and prefer it. I used to get a brand called Trata from Greece which were excellent, fished in the Aegean sea if I remember correctly. Wish I could get my hands on those again.
Also experiment with how the sardines are packed. Almost all brands offer lower prices per tin when packed in tomato sauce, olive oil being a close second. I dump the sauce anyway so I opt for the cheapest option in that regard. King Oscar has offerings in mustard, mediterranean style, and others but they are considerably more expensive. Learn what you like through experience.

Update on the Gin flavor. They're fucking weird. The fillets themselves were awesome, very large and firm, skin was nice although there was actually a noticeable amount of fat. They were SUPER smoky, and the juniper flavour was really strong. It was an interesting combination of flavours. I don't know if I'd eat them again because the juniper and smoke combination has coated my mouth to the point I'm still tasting them over my coffee over an hour later.

i love the tiny tots too best since my stores only sell the bigger king oscars. i think i pay like $2.20 but i think its worth it over the $1 tins. they are so much softer and juicier than the big ones you get in cans. i was a little disappointed when i paid $3 for a can of the big king oscar ones with spices in it because i liked the tiny tots much better.

I have only tired the Matiz tinned octopus and was not a big fan, there was just something off-putting about it. Hope you like the ones you purchased. The tinned razor clams I had were good but were packed in salt water, very reminiscent of the sea. This is what I was wanting since I live in a landlocked state now, but I can understand how they wound be off-putting to most people. Hope you enjoyed. Smoked muscles are good, always better with a bit of carbs, be it bread, crackers, or pasta. The tinned tuna I've always found underwhelming but to each their own, that bonito is higher quality than standard American tinned tuna. If I want tuna I just get nigiri and it always satisfies the craving for a few weeks.
Excellent and eclectic choices overall, glad to see another patrician in the thread.

Checked, love the packaging on these guys. Good product too, higher end sardines and you choose a good sauce.

I've eaten so many tiny tots every time I open a tin I get a headache now. Just need to keep on the extended break. Great sardines and the 12 packs can be bought for a good price on amazon.

I absolutely love the costco sardines brand. I tried the king oscar in mediterranean style and virgin oil and did not like the virgin oil. The mediterranean style was great however. Which of these would i be more likely to enjoy? I typically add black pepper so im leaning towards the cracked pepper ones or lemon

These squids were stuffed with their tentacles and canned in olive oil.
Both of the octopus tins were good, the one on the far left being better to me.
These razor clams were also tinned in water, I put them on pizza after cutting them in half.
The mussels were all grilled, everything from that cannery is grilled before canning.
All the tuna was good and despite it all being the same cut of meat the quality of the tuna used in the various cans was pretty different as was the amount of salt used, for example the tuna on the far right was very salty compared to any of the others.

Oh, well it's good that you at least have consulted with one. I mostly meant that based on what you told about your past, that ibu consumption is insane.

That packaging and your description honestly make it sound like one of the worst things I can imagine from tinned fish. Would not try based on that. And I fucking love tinned fish.

I bought 2 more cans. It's fine with some salt or soy sauce
>>
how long do these tinned sardines last
>>
>>19935562
tinned fish lasts a good while. at least 5 years and then it may slowly change taste or texture. but still edible well beyond that.
enjoy friend

Pretty much indefinitely if packaged and stored properly. They will get mushy over time, especially ones packed in water or sauces other than just oil, but they will still be perfectly edible decades later.

This video is a nearly 40 year old can being opened. (if you read the description the date he states at the begging is incorrect) and while not particularly appetizing looking there's nothing inherently wrong or dangerous about them.
