I don't understand, what about this is supposed to look unappetizing? It's just a bag of sauce, you can't even see the chicken.

its a red bag of duct tape in the sink. it looks like shit.
plus whatever is in there is going to look like shit after an entire 5 days of being submerged in acidic sauces.

wouldnt all that acidic hot sauce dry out the chicken over 5 days?

i marinated some chicken in buttermilk and the acidity started to cook and dry the chicken overnight, i cant imagine what hot sauce would do.

If it looks good but tastes like shit then it isn’t magically less shit from looks alone. I get presentation to an extent but after a point its just a pretentious waste like a dictator buying a golden AK. Literal monke ape brain mentality.
>>
Who cares what it looks like while you're cooking it? The food won't look like that when you present it to a table of hungry dinner eaters. I do think it's worth it to make a bit of effort to make the dinner table look good as you all sit down to feast. Any masters of dinner table feng shui in the thread?

Yeah 5 days is a long time to marinate. Probably don't really need to go past 24 hours or else the acidity just starts having a negative effect on the texture.

It does for me. Though, mindset when going into a meal matters overall. You're not going to appreciate the various qualities of a meal as much if you're distracted by shitposts and memes on a Mongolian goat steaming enthusiasts imageboard.

I suspect it very likely that the majority of the people on this board not only do not cook regularly, but don't even pay much attention to the food they consume when they do. When you put some time into a nice meal in a pleasant environment, and savor the qualities in your work, the meal is going to be more satisfying and relaxing. Moreover, spending the small amount of time to settle your meal and dining spot neatly can be meditative of itself if performed mindfully. Seeing a visually appealing thing and deriving pleasure from that isn't exclusive to fine paintings and cunny bellies; we should endeavor to improve aesthetic detail in all our daily crafts.

What, you guys don't like two pounds of rice with your soda chicken?
>>
>>18021107
That's food prep, not food serving, of course it won't look pretty. This guy is such a retard.
For OP question presentation shouldn't come at the expense of taste, but it doesn't need to in order to look tasty and nice on the plate. If you're cooking for other people and your food looks like dogshit on the plate then you're lazy because you can make most dishes look good without sacrificing taste.
>>
>>18021107

giant obese retards like this literally always have water diarrhea. you have to ignore a lot of red flags from your body to get that fat, and that's one of them.
>>
>>18021683
based post. it doesn't have to be a fancy gastronomique presentation even, but when you eat shitty sloppa plopped onto the top of an old pizza box all the time, it affects your mindset. you turn yourself into a trash goblin. if I gave that to someone else, I would feel like I was insulting them.

plus, people undeniably eat with their eyes. if you're cooking for others, presentation absolutely matters. if you're going to make something for other people you care about, why wouldn't you spend at least 1% of the effort you spent cooking to make it more presentable for them? my girlfriend says she doesn't care about presentation, but I know for a fact if I don't make it look nice she doesn't like it as much. respect your craft and the people you're cooking for, even if it's just a hobby, and even if it's just for you.

Plating can be nice without being pretentious.
I try to plate my food nicely even though I just cook for myself and don't take photos of it.
A little sprig of parsley or some garden cress can make a very basic dish look much nicer. You don't have to stand there and put flowers on it with pincers like you're a damn Michelin chef.
>>
>>18021107
I see that pic posted here all the time.
Is there also a photo of the end result, though? I can't imagine it was good.
People who don't know how to cook always over-marinade because they think more is better.

I keep forgetting that "people" like this exist. I thankfully almost only see them online.
I did one time meet a woman who must have been at LEAST 25 years old when I was walking the dog. She petted it and said, out loud in public, "boop the snoot".
I should have have sicced it on her. I regret that I didn't.

Also, if he's eating the legs and breast by himself he's a goddamn pig.
>>18021352
Raw chicken can keep for 5 days in the fridge. Especially in a marinade.
It's not going to turn out good, though.
>>
>>18021705

Not completely dissolved, the expert(s) they (Pepsi) hired claimed the mouse would have turned into a jelly like substance in 30 days, unrecognizable as a mouse due to abscene of bones/structure. The mouse they pulled out was completely intact, and born later that the manufacturing date.

>>18024929
Tissue/collagen not so much, but it has the acidity to dissolve bones, especially small ones like that of a mouse.

'poured neat' mean with no ice or mixers. The US is a cocktail nation, so we have to distinguish the ways in which we enjoy our alcohol. A lot of people here like to add bitters, sugar, fruit juice, etc. to their alcohol.

Green kiwis have a lot of actinidin, a meat-tenderizing cysteine enzyme. It's similar to bromelain in pineapples with how it softens up meat.
Eating a lot of either fruit can hurt your mouth because of this.

It can. I don't waste much time on garnishes or plating for myself (cook, slide onto plate, shove into face), but if I'm cooking for people, even a little garnish and some well-placed and prettied up flatbread with a bowl of sloppa makes me feel better about serving it. If the expectation comes from it looking like a plateload of diarrhea, sometimes the brain guides the tongue and not the other way around.

It was a can, but yeah. As >>18025047 mentioned, the evidence was a mouse which was far too intact despite the drink's acidity. The defence's case included a study on the effects of citric acid in low concentrations on organic tissue (that was ironically also meant to show the ill effects of soft drink consumption).
PepsiCo's defence here was actually pretty solid. They chose to settle out of court to get the news to stop talking about the case which was harmful for their brand image. Despite proving the thing was a hoax, journalistic integrity doesn't exist in the 21st century and it was just better not to have constant "MOUSE DISSOLVED IN MOUNTAIN DEW!!!" headlines.
