Based.

This is my go-to ramen lunch. It's easy to make, absolutely stuffed to the gills with flavor, and doesn't take a lot of time. There's very little veggie involved, so make sure to have a healthy dinner tonight.

Broth:
1.25 cups water
1/4 tsp hondashi*
2 tsp mirin**
1 tsp dark soy sauce (koikuchi shoyu)
1 tsp light soy sauce (utsukushi shoyu)***

1 green onion, sliced
1 can sardines, mackeral, or herring

1 bundle Hakubaku organic ramen****

Combine broth ingredients in a small pot. Bring to a simmer.
Meanwhile, boil a pot of water and cook ramen to package directions.

When the noodles are nearly finished, add the green onion and fish to the simmering brother.
Strain the noodles and add to a large bowl. Pour the soup on top. Serve and eat piping hot!

* Substitute fish sauce or MSG
** Substitute 2 tsp rice wine and 3/4 tsp sugar
*** Substitute regular soy sauce is fine

So basically, I hate fishy flavor but I enjoy some types of whitefish, as well as shellfish and scallops, but not oysters or mussels, etc. How can I enjoy deenz? I don't want to try them and scare myself off them forever because I understand the benefits and want to reap them... but damn, do I hate fishiness.

Tried this for the first time ever and they have no texture at all, they just turn to mush in your mouth and have barely any flavor at all except a cat food like fishy flavor. I don't understand the hype at all, just take a fish oil pill or eat some canned salmon if you want more cheap Omega 3s

They're pretty good and high quality. Better than Bela's and Santo Amaro's, which I see as their main competitors. Nuri's are still better than all three though. If you can, try Trata's. Product of Greece and they're like the half way point between King Oscars and Spanish / Portuguese sardines. Not too small and mushy like King Oscars sometimes are, but not so huge that there's only three per tin. Still have the crunchy spine that any patrician will love.

Also, the Matiz tined octopus is not worth the price, I wouldn't bother with it.

Chad-tier deenz. The Bonito del Norte and cockles are fantastic as well. For the past 2 nights I've had 2 cans of Matiz sardines and a bottle of Manzanilla for dinner! The only thing I don't like from them, as >>17280719

Canned deenz are high on fishy flavor. You can mask it though with herbs like parsley, mint and then lemon juice and zest or vinagre. You can further dilute the fishiness by mixing in a can of tuna.

Sunflower seed oil, which must be as acquired a taste as soybean oil. Might as well pack them in water as far as taste is concerned. Is there any point in packing them in oil that's not as flavorful as EVOO? Genuine question. Does it last longer?

Alton browns sardines and avocado toast recipe is highly approachable for the uninitiated and should give you a good idea of flavors that work well with them. They're good on a green salad with some lemon, cracked pepper, and paprika as well.

You may want to look for cans that specifically say brislings on them. The fish are smaller and less fishy than the big boys.

Got this haul from Rainbow Tomatoes Garden last week and have slowly been trying different ones.

The expensive ones on the right were interesting and really good, but I think I don't quite have a refined enough palate to make them worth the cost other than as a curiousity or gift. Maybe if a pro was preparing & presenting them I'd feel differently, though.

I made a variation of my recipe today. Didn't have green onions on hand. Went with a stronger sauce, upgrading the shoyus and mirin to 1tbsp each. I like it but maybe a bit less mirin is needed actually.
Made it to try out a brand of somen which are these really thin noodles. I like them.
Brunswick herring filet, a solid and tasty lunch.

Sounds great. Would love to try and get back to you, but have to source the soy sauces first. Probably got to order them online...
>>

Same with me, they're just better for some reason. I find the fishys to be a bit more firm than the standard red pack. Tiny tots are generally cheaper as a 12 pack from amazon too.

How much canned fish is too much canned fish

You can use regular soy sauce like kikkomon if you want. I've been using Yamasa brand which you should be able to get at an Asian grocery store.

I went in a different direction for tonight’s dinner .

I so wish Alonso really was asking us for advice on canned fish . I think you might need to think about salt , mercury and total calories . Otherwise I don’t see any problems .

Sometimes if I'm lazy I'll take leftover rice and a can of deenz and dump the whole thing over the rice, oil and all, and just mash it together and add a pinch of salt. Does anyone else do this?

I opened a can a couple minutes ago. Seeing this thread made me crave anchovies so I cracked open a can of them and ate a few. Big mistake, they fucking suck on their own because of how concentrated the salt is.

very nice indeed, but get rid of the plastic spatula anon! just use wood!

You'd throw away a noble source of collagen under the misguided guise of refinement? You are snobbish and dishonor the animal which you consume.
>>
>get into frozen salmon
>only allowed to eat it 2-3 times a week
>sardines are supposed to be lower on the food chain and safer to eat
>look up how often you can eat sardines
>2-3 times a week

Sorry, deenz. There's no fucking difference and if I eat salmon I cannot eat sardines.

I don’t like to use my wood spatula for onions . It smell like them if I do .
