Only 3 more weeks to go.
Shame about the price hike, though it feels as if the Friday and Saturday hours got cut shorter than usual.
Think the lines will be as long as last time despite their efforts?
>>
Probably not. Friend of a friend told me that the cosplay contest has been rigged since 2019 and said to not expect anything good.
>>
If there isn’t a big line for getting inside there’s going to be another reason for the line
>>
They also added a lottery system for larger panels like NYCC. People are not thrilled
>>
How's the con vibe compared to other East coast cons?
>>
>>10815604
Think AX with less programming
>>
>>10815604
And more virtue signaling this year with the small amount of programming that is listed
>>
lol the panel reservation system failed on them
>>
>>10815632
I think it is very very funny that the first years of ANYC they were so adamant on being an mun industry con that they wouldn't allow Fan panels now that they have no money and no programming they accept panels like How to keep black people safe how black peoples hair is a totally relevant subject and other shit i'd take a bunch of 'Popular series 101' panels over this
>>
>>10815674
I submitted a panel, didn't get in, and there's exactly 0 panels on that same topic (sewing). meanwhile, there's 5 WatchMojo tier "did you know there's black people in anime?" or "here's why naruto and sasque are gay owo". i don't give a shit about not getting my panel in if someone more credible got a crafting panel in, but the fact that they straight up just ignored that entire topic for some retarded woke shit makes my blood boil
>>
>>10815676
Yep. I actually recall them having real craftsmanship panels in 2017-2018. But this year it’s just a bunch of woke garbage with broad industry panels. God this con took a dive in quality
>>
>>10815733
I've told my group the same thing, the failure of the panel registration is just another nail. This might be the final year I will be going
>>10815676
It will be funny to see the turnout, in other cons that have This panels they usually have to cancel because of the low attendance and the organizers bitching about it
>>
>>10815676
obviously they got in because of nepotism
>>
>>10815772
That will be glorious to watch.
>>
>>10815670
And they pushed the reservation date back
>>
>>10815876
maybe one day something will work on the day they first announce it
remember last year where the train station around javis wasn't open for the weekend and they said nothing??
>>
What's the betting line on whether or not they enforce their mask policy? I'm not sure what to expect.
We've seen quite a few cons lately have mask requirements, but do nothing to enforce them.
But on the other hand, this convention made national headlines for basically being the first hotspot for the Omicron variant in the USA in 2021, so I think they'll want to virtue signal as much as possible.
>>
>>10815733
I can't comment on panels since I rarely attend them, but yeah, the first two years of the con were pretty good overall, and then they really went downhill quickly.
The con organizers brag about how experienced they are, but still managed to have a ton of problems every year after those first two.
The fact that they don't have the balls to expand and use the whole convention center is annoying as well. They're content shoehorning as many people as possible into the space they have while splitting the venue with another convention.
>>
>>10816162
If the guy didn't stick his face on national television, then Omi at the venue wouldn't have been a huge event. On the other hand it's funny to see top government officials talk about an anime con
>>10816167
I think it's about space expenses, if they have good amount then floors and additional space can be rented. I'd it's a bad year then you'll have a food show a few feet away
>>
>>10816162
They tried to last year but it was partially successful. Dunno how they will be strict about it this year
>>
I was planning on going with friends but they bailed. Anyone else going solo want to meet up?
>>
>>10816593
I'll be going on my vacation and willing to meet anybody who's not going to chicken out.
>>
How hard do they actually check weapons? I have a katana for a cosplay where the blade is wood but apparently thata now allowed in, but I see demon slayer cosplayers from previous ANYC that all look like they might have the same one
>>
they moved the cosplay meetups from the river pavilion right onto the crystal plaza
which is also the press and pro entrances
>>
Any of y'all interested if I throw up a portable portrait studio somewhere for free photos?

I'm always up for free pictures and give someone exposure.

What was announced that on the exchange that the price almost tripled from when I saw it last.
>>
>>10817081
neato, I'll probably set it up in the hotel room I got and drop details later
>>
>>10817081
The site scalps you more as it grows closer to the event. It's just them trying to make a profit on desperate people.
>>
>>10817081
Kek, glad I bought this shit when the 3-day was only like $165.
>>
>>10817111
That’s just sad.
>>
>>10817111
But how much does the seller profit?
>>
>>10817124
Not much, iirc they were buying badges for 110$ and reselling them for 179 before today.
>>
>>10817157
I guess I'll continue selling them on 3rd parties sites. Thank you
>>
This con went to the shitter
>>
>>10817323
Guess it'll lower my expectations so i'll get pleasantly surprised by AFA when I leave.
>>
anyone wanna go with me :|
>>
Anyone going?

https://animenyc.com/animey2kparty/

Y2K Anime music, artists from panty and stocking, idolmaster, beatmania, etc.
>>
>>10817366
I'm already meeting with some pals, how cute are you?
>>
Cyberpunk chads the con crunch begins be on the lookout for me
>>
So It took until 1 week before the con to sell out of passes.
>>
>>10817375
I'm going, you never want to miss a Teddyloid party.
>>
I still can't get over how few 3 day tickets they sold. Maybe Anime Frontier will be chill.
>>
>>10817760
the 3 day tickets were just forced scarcity they made far more money selling individual day passes
>>
>>10817760
they want you to buy 3 individual day passes
mightve worked if they didnt raise the prices of those to what the 3 day passes used to be.
>>
>>10817402
no but seriously though someone please
>>
>>10817366
Are you a cute girl? Femboys aren't allowed
>>
>>10817518
They charge more money for their passes than Anime fucking Expo. The fuck were they thinking.
>>
>>10817081
alr just look for some skinny asian kid in the Marriott bar after the con is over
>>
>>10818199
You described half of the con-goers
>>
>>10818257
Huh, I thought there would've been more white people at ANYC
>>
>>10818300
I've been to a bunch of cons around the country and ANYC is probably one of the few cons that has a good amount of every race due to how diverse the city is. And I'm not talking diverse as in black people although you see a lot of them, I'm talking about seeing other races too like Asians, Hispanics, Middle Eastern, etc.. Most people in NY are very open about their weeb hobbies
>>
Nice entrance plan. I'm sure you're all going to enjoy waiting almost an hour to get in.
>>
>>10818383
only a hour??
nothing compared to last year
>>
>>10818383
instead of a line spanning several blocks away from javis center we can line up several blocks away in front of a lot around javis instead!!!!
also lol at their covid policy
>>
>>10818339
Nice to know then, I looked way out of place going to some of the smaller east coast cons.
>>
I've got a spare Saturday pass if anyone wants to buy one off me for a reasonable price
>>
I was thinking of buying a badge but the price hike was bad even without any last minute extras, and the lottery system sounds like a cherry on top of the pile of shit. I know they're limiting the amount of people coming in to the con as a whole, but why did they also make the panels and events RNG?
>>
>>10817623
Fuck yeaaaaaa
a/s/l?
>>
>>10818500

If you are serious dm me on discord. I want to go for once in my life Emperor#9507
>>
whats there to eat around the center im not in the mood to pay for con prices for food
>>
>>10818742
The con is a few blocks away from Hell's kitchen literally whatever you want
>>
>>10818581
No. See you there.
>>
i vaguely remember last year that the bands they used to mark people who passed the health check was generic orange and that people would just get them elsewhere instead of waiting in that long ass line
this year they’re using green bands with the left field media logo on it, also you can’t remove it easily since it attaches the same way as the last years one did
>>
>>10818500
>>10818588
To anyone possibly interested already sold to this lovely fellow. Enjoy
>>
>>10818745
This, you're still gonna be paying out the ass unless you settle for $1.25 pizza slices but at least $15-18 gets you a real full meal like 10m away.
>>
Anyone wanna meet up early? Nothing to do from 10 to 1
>>
>>10815419
Cancelled my tickets,

Fuck anyc and fuck crunchyroll
>>
>>10818905
Word of advice: ask the person putting it on to make it a bit loose. I did and I can take it on and off pretty easily.
>>
Genshin is not anime
>>
how long are the health check lines
>>
>>10819031
both lines are long
>>
>>10817763
>Sell very few 3 day tickets
>Have a re-sale site open that resells tickets at nearly 2x the original price

One of the scummiest moves I've seen from a convention
>>
>>10819046
It is. The sad part is the con sold out anyways, so people keep coming despite how bad this con has become.
Instead of using more space at the Javits so they could grow and sell more tickets, the organizers have decided to milk every last penny they can out of the people that come.
The hell with trudging over to the Javits in near freezing November NYC weather for this overrated convention.
>>
>>10819049
>>10819046
Get a job
>>
>>10819005
It will be soon.
>>
>>10819046
Economically speaking, that means the fair market price is probably closer to the 2x, but they're underpriced initially, either because of the risk tolerance of the event organizers, or they don't want to price out key fan demographics, or take up so much of people's budgets that they don't have enough for merch.
>>
>>10818745
A lot of places in HK are very expensive though. The neighborhood has gentrified a lot with the building of the 7 and Hudson Yards
>>
>>10819031
people are actually moving at a reasonable pace through them, though only in comparison to last year
how hard can it be to check id and vax at one point, and wristband and badge at the other? apparently, significantly so.
>>
How was the con today for anyone that attended?
>>
>>10819089
Getting in was much easier than last year. So far so good, but I'm tired as fuck.
>>
>>10819061
Still doesnt mean it should be valued that high, especially for a 3 day con
>>
>>10819075
You can't say that without having an idea of how many tickets they're actually selling at the 2x price. If only a very small percentage of tickets are resold at that price, that absolutely does not make the "fair market price" anywhere near the 2x.
If tickets for this show were that sought after, it wouldn't have taken all the way until the week before the show to sell out of the Friday and Sunday tickets.
>>
>>10819061
Can't speak for anyone else, but it's a matter of paying what I think the con is worth.
I've got cash to spare and would actually be fine paying the inflated resale price for the con if I thought it was a great show.
The problem is, it isn't. This is a mid-tier convention at best. More like low/mid honestly.
>>
>>10819096
NYC is this enormous, vibrant city. Why can't we get a half-decent con?
>>
>>10816593

>>
>>10819135

>>
Security seems so lax as long as you have the wristband seems like you could sneak in each day if you vaguely flashed a pass from the day before
>>
>>10819188
Saw plenty of people with no masks on too. No one cares.
>>
>>10819204
Doesn't feel like the convention sold out either. Lot more breathing room than last year
>>
>>10819208
Yeah because they admitted to reducing the amount of people that they would let in
>>
does anyone want to meet up? i'm solo

>>
>wanted to watch the masquerade competition
>can't because I didn't reserve a ticket
that sucks last year could just walk right in didn't even bother looking into reservations wasn't expecting that
>>
>>10819274
I grabbed a waitlist ticket for the hell of it to see if any space opens.
>>
Hosted the One Piece Meet up with Toei Animation this year. They just get bigger and bigger the more I come here. I wish I could of done my traditional Rob Lucci cosplay, but sadly the paint didn’t come in on time + it’s 6 1/2 hours to complete. But I’m glad people liked my Aokiji! Over 300+ one piece cosplayers were gathered here and I’m so happy it’s been getting so much love. None of this would be possible without the fans. I hope everyone else is enjoying the convention.
>>
Walked right into today just using green wristband and flashing backside of my Saturday pass briefly lol

Wristband>3 day pass
>>
Went to the Touhou Cosplay meet up and the organizer made us where masks DURING the shoot when half the con didn't where any masks. Went on the discord where they were posting the pics and there is a section that states if a picture is taken at a con the person in the photo has to be wearing a mask. What a fucking lunatic.
>>
>>10819431
Don't forget that the photoshoot was hosted outside of the convention proper, where the mask rules don't apply. She's just a crazy power hungry internet janny and it is no wonder that her ``community" hemorrhages any new blood it gets instantaneously. Mask for thee but not for her inner circle friends though! Tee hee. You will get called out on the loudspeaker but you can bet her friend won't.

she did that last year too kek

First time going to a con in so long and the best parts of it weren't anything the con itself provided except the arcade machines. The after party on friday was more fun than the con proper and you didn't even need to have a con badge for it. Fortunately I didn't pay for my badge.
>>
>>10820026
>except the arcade machines
Psychic Drive is absolute shit and refuse to get any modern games that draws people to cons. They think candy cabs and outdated rhythm games is what everyone wants because of nostalgia/retro game bait. Their machines are also all fucked up and uncalibrated. While Snow Phoenix is miles better, rumors has it that they refuse to provide for NY cons due to the owner being petty over something that happened years ago thanks to the NY FGC, which is hypocritical because they provide to NJ cons despite tons of NYers going to NJ cons.

>How common is this at other cons?
I've seen girls stepping on guys at other cons. But this was the first time I've seen toe sucking and spitting in someone's mouth for money at any comic/anime convention.
>>
>>10820612
Saw the footage and Jesus Christ she’s not even hot. What makes it even worse is that she’s a genderspecial.
>>
>>10820709
This shit was so gross. I don't usually have an issue with lewd cosplay or whatever but come the fuck on bro. Nobody came to watch or have their kids watch some random chick spitting into peoples mouths for money
>>
>>10821148
It is gross, but it's also not the big fucking deal people are making it out to be. Most people wouldn't have seen any of that happening unless they made it a point to stand around and watch the girl(s) that were doing it.
And I really get tired of this "won't someone please think of the children" crap. Can we just make all cons officially 18+? Let the little bastards stay home and play Roblox. Not a single person likes to be around other people's children, no matter how much they might pretend to like them.
>>
>>10821163
Idk anon I enjoy letting kids take pictures with me, letting them see cool props, etc.

Regardless my point isn't "think of the children!" to clarify. Im moreso thinking that literally prostituting yourself in a convention center crosses the line. Like at least the "Step on you for $" chicks have plausible deniability. Spitting in mouths and letting people suck your toes in public for money is fetish shit and nobody except sex pests want to be around it.

I forsee a crackdown on signage and etc soon
>>
>>10821202
>I forsee a crackdown on signage and etc soon
Yeah, I'm sure AnimeNYC will have add some sort of rule(s) in relation to this sort of thing.
They've evaded making any sort of statement directly addressing what happened this year to avoid embarrassment and any more bad press related to their convention.
They'll just quietly update their policies some time in 2023, and no one will notice unless someone makes a post like "HEY LOOK, THERE'S THE SPIT IN YOUR MOUTH GIRL POLICY ADD-ONS!"
