Getting a cosplay gf is no different than getting any gf ultimately. It's just a matter of finding women who cosplay and you being attractive to said cosplay women. Being a cosplayer yourself can be plus cause commonality in a relationship is great. Conventions are great for finding a cosplay gf but you gotta be considered bf material to have success. Conventions don't change how dating works, it's just a venue to meet new people. People who have success in dating outside of conventions typically have greater success at conventions.

She was very cute and an excellent costume maker but it wasn't a good relationship, she had way too many issues and took them out on me most of the time, and as others have said it ruined my con social life.

I'm a woman who has a cosplay gf and I can tell you right now that the way to find a cosplay gf is to stop trying to have hookups with every hot cosplayer you see at the con. If all you want in a relationship is cosplay and sex, sounds like you have the personality of stale bread and need to work on having like...some other hobbies or goals in life or something. I'm also a non-cosplay photographer (mostly automotive/motorsports) who got drafted into the cosplay world while dating a cosplayer and it was shocking how skeezy most of the other photogs I encountered were. Also, try to have a hobby outside of cosplay if you can. Things like being a movie buff or being a fan of a sports team is meh, try something more outdoorsy or traditionally manly; like working on cars, riding motorcycles, maybe dirt biking if you live in the country or boating/jetskiing if you’re on one of the coasts. As a general rule, getting with someone just because they cosplay is a recipe for disaster especially if you are looking for something long term.

I've had 3 cosplayer girlfriends, the most recent one ending last week. However I didn't get with them with the sole purpose of the fact they cosplay, I got with them because I actually liked them and wanted to be around them rather than OMG YOU COSPLAY THATS SO COOL.

I have a good costume and have had other good costumes in the past. I'm at least average looking - certainly better than a lot of the guys you see at conventions. I'm talk. I'm not fat, though I'm not /fit/ either. I'll get compliments on the costume, but almost never actual flirting (unless I'm just too fucking autistic to recognize it). If you want something to happen, then take some initiative. Medium sized cons are better for this - big enough for there to be a good pool of people but not so big that you can't actually get a conversation going.

My problem is that I'm shit at that. I can approach someone if they're solo, compliment her costume and all that basic shit, but it always feels like the conversation just peters out.

As someone with a cosplay gf it really isn't as good as you think. I mean obviously the sexual aspect is 10/10, I'm not arguing that.
