i need to make some leather clothing. specifically a jacket and gloves. is there a certain type of faux leather i should be looking out for? i was at joanns just doing some window shopping and it seems like the only type of faux leather i saw were the kinds that looks like they were mainly for upholstery. im guessing i shouldnt be using that stuff, right? i mean, the material was thin but kinda stiff.
>>10788220There are different weights of faux leather . Some are thinner and some are thicker. I suggest you go to an actual fabric store that isn’t Joann (their selection is way too limited) or order samples online until you find what you need.
Stupid question. How hard is it to get into comic con with a badge from another person? My sister's friend stupidly bought 2 from somewhere like eBay or something and was going to use them to get in. They've done this in the past but I feel like 2022 is going to be tighter on security, checks, covid, bla bla bla
What's a fast, cheap way to make a mold/template for layering things on? I mean in a big way. Like if I want to make some pauldrons, I need a big half-cylinder with a quarter-sphere on top. Put a plastic bag on something on it then start slapping down foam strips or paper mache on top of the straps I need to connect it to the rest of the armor. I'm tempted to just try packed dirt but I don't know if it'll hold a shape while I'm working.
>>10788281Look up some youtube tutorials. EVA isn't all that expensive anymore and you can even find it at the $5 (which will require some extra work to make usable, but it's still a good value). Sometimes it might seem cheaper to use whatever you have (dirt, trash, paper mache), but it bites you in the ass in the long run because it takes a lot more steps (and usually materials) to make it look half as decent as the proper materials like EVA foam. Even after my spiel if you are headstrong about using whatever you've got, at least watch the videos to figure out how to attach the pauldrons to yourself. I recommend KamuiCosplay's ErazerGirl tutorial as it's essentially a step-by-step full body EVA armor tutorial.
>>10788281Get large, cheap mixing bowls from IKEA or Goodwill?
>>10788213>>10771930I haven't used it myself, but from what I hear from other crafters: Yes, just water and yes, it's just as bouncy as regular foam after it dries fully.>>10774126I could've sworn someone replied to you, but guess not. In short: face paint or eyeshadow (either cream or powder). >oily skinUse a matte-ifying primer and setting spray, use a powder to set, carry your makeup to reapply, and try to stay cool. Tbh it's mostly part of the Cosplayer Illusion(TM) that makeup stays on all day. Much like regular makeup, it doesn't last a full hot day for most people. They just reapply, blot, or change out of the costume halfway through.>>10777890Yeah, lots of crafters use it for gemstones and such. It shouldn't crack unless it's under stress (ie bending). Use a clear coat too just in case.>>10781460Search "cosplay lashes" on Amazon and pick the first result. I think it's the $13 one. Or buy the same pairs through Aliexpress or Taobao for less than $5>>10785683 See: "how to seal EVA foam" by punished props on youtube, he gives a full review of several finishes.>>10787771The Homestucks would add freckles and color variation to areas to indicate warmth. For example, if your alien has elf-style ears, the tips, cheeks, nose, and etc. would be shaded a darker green because theoretically that's where the warm points on the face would be. Other than highlights and shadows, I don't think there's much you can do.
>>10788243Security guards don’t look at the name on the badge. As long as your flash it at them, they’ll let you in. They don’t get paid enough to care.
Link me somewhere to buy contacts I just got burned twice on Amazon the first was the wrong set the next was a scam didn't receive and seller is m.i.a please help nothing to expensive please I'm breaking my budget as it is
>>10788243>>10788318You would need covid proof which might be an issue. Not sure exactly how they are doing that one yet. If you can get whatever wristband or clearance without your badge you'll be good to go.Make sure not to fuck up on tag in tag out because they would need whatever name is on the badge to reset it. Also be aware that they have occasionally done badge/name checks in lines to buy things, so just keep an eye out. Turn around a look, because I've seen oblivious people get caught before.
>>10788291...I feel like an idiot for not checking youtube for tutorials. My first attempt used those large foam puzzle-piece mats. I was trying to make 40k power armor, and while I think some of the pieces from my first try looked alright I really had no idea what I was doing or how to assemble and connect the whole thing together. I wonder if EVA foam would be able to hold the shape of that kind of oversized armor correctly. Or would I have to pad it or add something rigid at places?
>>10788320Read the faq
>>10788328>I wonder if EVA foam would be able to hold the shape of that kind of oversized armor correctlyIf done correctly, absolutely yes. It will definitely help to do some research my friend. I recommend PunishedProps, KinpatsuCosplay, and KamuiCosplay as they have the most beginner friendly and accessible videos. Honestly just watching others complete their projects, even if it has nothing to do with your building can be a great way to immerse yourself in the concept until the terms and steps to building become familiar to you.
>>10788346Shut the FUCK up retard. No one wants to read the gay ass faq that teaches you nothing.
>>10788328>I wonder if EVA foam would be able to hold the shape of that kind of oversized armor correctly.practically every warhammer cosplayer has used EVA foam for their build. im assuming you never even bothered to look at other warhammer cosplayers builds.keep a note that there are different kinds of EVA foam out there. you definitely want to get the really dense one. the puzzle piece mats are pretty garbage anyways but people used them because they were widely available since any hardware store sold them.I dont know where you live but Hobby Lobby sells super dense EVA foam and they are almost always on sale too.
How much money would I need if I wanted to make a halo ODST armor from scratch?
I decided to get into crafting my own cosplays recently so I bought a sewing machine, and signed up for a sewing class at my local community college. For the below the waist portion (the tunic/skirt for lack of a better word, would I want to be sewing that, using a petticoat to give it shape, then build the armor separately to go over it?
>>10788546depends on what tools and supplies you currently have and the type of material you plan on using. if anything, maybe $200 minimum?
>>10788566You probably don't need a petticoat, just puffy pants and maybe a few layers of gathered tulle on the sides if you insist on more volume.
>>10788546>>10788583>$200 minimumThat's a very low estimate unless op has all the tools and materials necessary already. That armor is easily $200 in foam alone.
>>10788611>>10788583I have absolutely nothing since I've never done cosplay before
>>10788566I agree with the other anon that you don't need a petticoat (or even tulle for that matter). The over-skirt's shape comes from the way it's cut from the fabric. It's a circle skirt with a piece taken out of it.
>>10788674>I've never done cosplay beforelol well expect to be spending a lot then.and i hope youve been watching tutorials and shit because a full armor set like that is a pretty big project to tackle on your first go. i dont know how your artistic background is though since that can be a factor because some people can adapt to cosplay pretty well even though theyve never touched it before. i did years of painting, both on canvas and then onto painting miniatures and model kits. also did 3d modeling for like 5+ years so when i finally started doing cosplay, it was pretty easy to adapt into since I could use all the stuff i learned from previous art mediums.
>>10788546If you have a 3d printer and know how to do 3d modeling maybe $400Anyone who tells you to use foam is trying to trick you into making something that looks like shit.
>>10788762I'm a background artist who mainly draws for anime so I'm sure it won't be of help here.Guess I will keep saving up money because I'm broke as shit right now (hence the question)Thanks though

what is this kind of makeup called that japanese cosplayers typically do? the one that makes their eyes appear slightly larger I mean, and what do I search to find makeup tutorials for this? pic related, not the greatest example sorry but hopefully you get the idea
These badboys (chalk pastels) arrived today, so, i should rub them against layer by layer of my faux fur ears, and then apply a decent hair fixer to help the color stay? Am i missing something?
>>10789418It's not technically makeup it's a type of glue adhesive basically that's covered with a type of skin pain to cover the seams before makeup is appliedChinese do it too

I'm new to cosplay, i've bought cream based face paint, need to do a similar pic-related pattern in my face (half painted, one color).Do i just carefully apply in my face with a brush and then throw baby powder in my face so the color stays longer?
>>10790024If you want the "gradient" in picrel then you should dab it on with makeup sponges.
Some of her dreads look like they were matted together with clay - what can I use to mimic this effect, specifically on kanekalon or wool dreads? (And please don't just say "clay", kek)
>>10790108Its literally dirt, so yes use clay.
>>10790119What kind of clay though? Googling skin-safe clay brings up like a thousand different kinds of clay.
>>10790108>>10790150Air dry clay works if you want a caked together with dried up mud look. The clay doesn't have to be skin-safe if it's just on top of your wig and not in contact with your scalp. If you want it to be wet-ish looking, you can paint the dreads with silicone.
>>10789931just learn how to work with foam in general. make random things out of it. go check out evil teds channel and watch his armor making videos.he generally offers free templates for them so you can follow along. thats how i got started with foamcrafting. i just built random things like helmets, chest pieces, swords and then used that knowledge to move onto more complex designs. alternatively to Evil Ted is sksprops. he does more intermediate to advance stuff so give that channel a watch as well.
>>10790108>>10790154>Air dry clay worksa friend of mine was going for a similar look but using airdry clay on a wig just crumbles away. could have just been the type of clay she used and/or improper sealing.i think just getting fake dreds, coating it with glue (mod podge maybe?) and then sprinkling some fake dirt(the stuff used for dioramas) on it before it drys might give you what youre looking for. seems like just one of those things you just gotta experiment around with.
>>10790150>>10790154I would think pottery clay would be be better (mostly less stiff), maybe soak some clay in water and put the slightly clayed water into the hair?i dont have much experience with wigs etc, i just live around a lot of clay. i agree with not needing to worry about "skin safe" if you are just putting it on a wig, but i also am not sure what kind of clay would not be "skin safe." If it's a concern about being noncomedogenic then you could look into whatever mud is used for face masks.
I'm planning to make a cosplay of a Black Mesa Secruity Guard. Pretty straight foward, I just wondered if anyone knew what helmet and armor vest more accurately looks like the ones in the game.
>>10790181Seconding pottery clay. That sounds like the best option for a dried mud look.
>>10790035Thanks i'll do that, also, when applying baby powder (or any powder sealant)should i use a makeup sponge too?
I'm working on the pants for Mokou and I'm not sure how to do the paper talismans on them. Draw them on? But they'd look like shit up close. Embroid pieces of fabric and carefully sew them on? Iron-on foil/flock foil? But I've never worked with it before so not sure if it'd look good or not. Opinions/advice appreciated
tutorial for wigs like this?
>>10790722Contact glue would make the most sense and look the closest to it. Honestly I would just use white fabric and a stencil, spray on red fabric paint on the fabric rectangles then glue
Need to paint my eyebrows a light color (green), but they're black and i may not get the proper paint in time. Will eye shadow or something like that work?
>>10790722Probably like five different ways yu can tackle them, each with their own Good and bad-applique by sewing-applique by gluing-iron on vinyl-paint-literal fucking paper
>>10790768Yes but you’d need to cover your eyebrows with a base coat of foundation or concealer first to lighten them so that the green pops.
>>10790722Imo iron on vinyl (flocked or non-flocked is up to you) will be the cleanest and easiest. I used it recently and just cut the pieces out with scissors and the result was amazing. I thought it would be stiff like iron on transfer paper, but it wasn't at all. It actually had some stretch without cracking and I just bought a roll off of Amazon. You could also use a cricut if you have one available.
>>10790735I recommend The Art of Extreme Wig Styling by Cowbutt Crunchies. Her work is incredible and definitely applicable for styles like the one you need.
>>10790768You can get a cream-based pencil like Nyx's Milk (Not Cottage Cheese as it has glitter) and rub it on your brows back and forth, coating both sides of each brow hair. It helps to use a brow brush to thoroughly coat them. Then pack your brows with shadow using similar strokes as you would if you were drawing your brows in. Finally clean up the lines and there you go.This, >>10790870, anon's suggestion is also great though. I personally just hate gluing down my brows. If my suggestion doesn't lighten your brows enough for the color you need, I suggest following this anon's suggestion instead.
>>10790944>>10790870...they should just use white eyelash primer. like a normal human.
>>10790941Seconding this recommendation. Pretty easy to find pirated pdfs of it online too.
Is there something i can apply over body paint to make it stay/last longer? I Thought 'bout hair fixer spray but that sounds dumb (and dangerous close to the eyes?)
>>10790410Helmet is probably some varient of the PAGST system, since the Black Mesa incident takes place in the 90's. It could also be a MICH helmet. For the vest, probably some kind of riot gear hard vest.
How is there no pirates with live streams of EVERYTHING from/in conventions?>they don't allow video in some areasIt's pretty easy to sneak cameras in, unless they use metal detector near some/all of the rooms. (they usually check at check in, then ALLOW the camera's to go through/be brought in.)And if your camera has a light, tape the light. Or for phone, tape/cover the screen. It's easy, i feel like anyone could do it.Surely somewhere there is fan live streams with all the secrets?Sorry not to ask about cosplay, but i'm also including the cosplay competitions for live stream. I know on youtube, you can usually see like hour long cosplay competitions for conventions like a week after the convention sometimes. But what about live? Also, what youtube channels do you use to see the videos of the hour long cosplay convention after it's over?
>>10791025Nobody wants to atch boring staged competitions

>>10791181>doesnt even know how to properly search for things on google>didnt even bother to put in variations of "cosplay pigtails" or "long pigtail wigs".only person youre embarrassing is yourself, kiddo. i get this is a thread for stupid questions but you seem like a really stupid person. lol learn how to use the internet.
>>10791182yes, I agree just googling "pigtails" is stupid. wtf do you think the point of my reply was?
Messing with chalks is surely messy and a bit hard (when you start to rub alot and the color doesn't seem to improve).Any hints on working with pastel chalk in wigs, tails, props etc?
>>10791275are you using actual hair chalk? or just some cheap arts and crafts chalk? because the regular cheap stuff isnt going to do shit which is probably why youre struggling so much.
>>10791275There are plenty of tutorials in Japanese.Key thing is that you need to start with hair chalk meant for the job.- It will be messy. Wear gloves, put down a dropcloth or covering to shield your work surface.- Moisten the wig fibers with fine water spray- Brush the colored section to ensure the chalk is evenly distributed and the excess falls out- Heat set it.- Finish with hairspray to further protect the color and the clothing it will rub against, especially if it's a long wig.
>my cosplay looks better when i have a covid mask onwtf is my face ugly?
>>10791351do not use hair chalk for wigs
>>10791380Yeah but most people are ugly
>>10791380That's most people. The less of your face you see the less flaws are revealed. Same reason why it's fashionable to wear huge sunglasses.
>>10791414ntayrt but which chalk works?
>>10791433dry chalk pastels work best. unless you're using a human hair wig you generally don't want to use anything for hair on wigs.
I found this Astolfo wig tutorial and it looks good but idk about these wefts things on the back it talks about. Do I need these? I've never styled a wig this long or done a ponytail/braid braid before so I'm not sure if I should be buying these or not. Would it look too flat without them? And why would you buy a long wig just to chop it up and attach wefts?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlkpPRRCMiA
>>10791459why not just buy a short wig and get a clip in ponytail and braid it. better yet, just buy a wig designed for astolfo and style it.
>>10791466>just buy a wig designed for astolfo and style it.I wanna do that but a lot of them look kinda low quality. Is there a go-to store for that kind of thing?
>>10790410Honestly for the vest I'd recommend looking at making it yourself. The armor plates are really simple shapes that even a crafting newbie could slice out of foam, and then it's just a case of figuring out simple straps. Nothing too complex, and since it's such a major part of the outfit its game-accuracy is really important.Even a cheap security vest is gonna run you at least $30 and they're not going to be very close at all to the source, so you'll probably end up saving money this way too.Picrel I just found on Google Images but to me it looks way more impressive than any other cosplays when they're wearing "real" armor vests.
Although it is drawn like a tunic/gown, would it be safe to say that Hiei is wearing a cassock? I am thinking about cosplaying him for a con next month.
I wasn't spending $90 on these, so I got some plain black boots for $50, now how can I go about adding that design onto it myself?
>>10791566I think an orthodox style cassok would work
>>10791605I see. Thank you for your help.
Any anons know a wig creator who does coily hair (Black people hair)? In the past 4 years of searching, I've only found one who just makes colored afros. Pic related was great but disappeared after 2018
What's the best way to weather the collar on the shirt? The idea of just chopping at it with scissors has me stressed out. Is there some distress method that alt kids use or something? Obvs will use some fray check on it after.
First time gonna cosplay and make a costume, anyone have any advice? Was thinking of getting a bomb suit but making it white, though I'm not sure how to do that. I also need ideas on how to make the hood.
>>10791459>why would you buy a long wig just to chop it up and attach wefts?Sometimes it's cheaper than buying a short wig and a separate pack of wefts. Just the idea of having to chop the rest of the hair off (or remove the long wefts) seems more trouble than its worth imo. I would buy the short wig and a pack of wefts or a wig and a long ponytail that contains several rows of wefts personally (unless it was more expensive). The only other reason to do it that way would be to keep the colors uniform. Sometimes there's some color differentiation between batches of wefts and wigs. If you're particularly worried about that possibility of a color difference, then buying a long wig of the same batch would make sense.
>>10791470Arda, EpicCosplay, L-email, etc. You can find some more recommendations via the FAQ and a youtube search for "where to buy cosplay wigs"
>>10791575You made the right choice. EVA foam, gold spandex, and contact cement (see tutorial: https://youtu.be/iw6XzNa6vFU)
>>10791640Your best bet is to find a black cosplayer who takes commissions. Most black cosplayers that I follow style the wigs themselves, so I haven't seen any black commissioners in particular, but I'm sure they're out there. They're probably just not in my scope.
>>10791643I believe you can use a razor like the kind you use to shave and stroke the cloth back and forth until it starts forming tears, then you can man-handle them a bit until they distress further.

Any suggestions for TF2 Medic gloves?Trying to find that good middle ground between "flimsy cheap dishwashing gloves that won't last beyond a single use" and "$40 heavy-duty electrical resistant gloves that are thick and unwieldy"...I have some military surplus chemical-resistant black rubber gloves that I wear for my Ghostbusters cosplay that I really like, is it possible to paint rubber gloves (with Plasti-Dip or whatever) or is that more trouble than it'd be worth?

>>10791764I think if you just made it like the first pic, then added a wider solid piece for the back made the same way, it would probably be fine. For the cap you could probably cut the brim off a ballcap or something.
What is this type of outer coat called? It kinda looks like a trenchcoat but it's open on the front rather than something that can button up.
>>10791917It is just a fancy blazer lengthened to trenchcoat-like lengths. Being open in the front means it's open, that's all. If you need it to gap wide, you can always tailor or remove a couple of inches from the front panels.
>>10791776I don't think there really is a good way other than coating the fabric in thermal-sensitive paint, which probably wouldn't hold up to wear and tear or even sewing. The closest commercial stuff I can think of are reflective fabric/reactive fabric that changes under different light conditions, but even then the color palettes are selective.
what's the best way to made a gold paint to coat fabric and eva foam that give the shiny but not that "plastic" look to it like pic rel? It's doable, but just doesn't feel right. So I'm asking whats the preferred way of filling these gaps? I think I saw a video with caulk or something in a similar tube but that seems like it's own potential mess with painting later.
Any recommendations on how to do a bald character for cheaper (without doing a full shave obviously)? Would you say Hiei boots are leather or a faux fur material in general?
>>10792560Leather would make the most sense, and it would be easier to keep clean anyways. You could buy some faux leather boots for cheaper as well.
>>10792587I see. Thank you for the tip. The boots and wig are the only things I need to get.
>>10791435>>10791414>>10791351>>10791346Thanks, i bought some 'good' dry pastel chalks and will try it on my wig (it's a cheap synthetic). In this situation do i go only with hairspray and not heat set?
>>10792519honestly, i doubt youre gonna get an answer here since bald cosplay isnt really a common thing. (yes, i know people have done saitama tons of times but people put almost no effort into the baldness)youre probably better off lurking around special effects make-up communities for an answer. or just youtube it.
Anybody know happened to the artist alley threads? I migrated to /ic a few years ago and now that I'm back its just gone. Did they finally massacre eachother or something because I remember the threads being relatively active
>>10792772I believe it was getting bumped quite a bit before AnimeExpo. Perhaps it'll get some more attention once the next big con is happening? Other than that, /cgl/ as a whole is muuuuuch slower than you might remember it to be. According to people who have been here longer than me, the pandemic didn't start the exodus of posters from this board but it definitely was a catalyst for it.
>>10792519>>10792748I second this. People who chose to cosplay bald characters tend to already be bald themselves. It's just easier that way. I don't think you're being ignored, anon. I just think no one really has an answer for you.
What would this size refer to? Chest? Length?
>>10792896It's most likely chest size. Size type is for the sleeves. The length of the coat itself is probably standard as a military uniform.
>>10792897I'm 6'2" and skinny. Shirts somewhere between medium and large. How do I size this? is 42 probably right?
>>10792899(that's who I am cosplaying)
>>10792899The best way to find out is to measure your chest area with measuring tape. Do you own a suit? It might have the chest size inside tagged on it somewhere. You could probably go to a suit store or a tailor to get your measurements taken for future reference as well. If you get something slightly bigger, you can always get it tailored to your body as well. (Which I recommend anyways, to make it look better.)
>>1079289942 is probably not right unless you have a huge rib cage for your weight. You should measure yourself or ask a friend or relative to help you.
More of just a stupid question out of curiosity, but if a character canonically wears a real world brand name piece of clothing (that you don't have), for the cosplay do you prefer just buying the real deal or saving money and every cent possible (even if it's something that's not that extremely out there in price like maybe a specific color of Converse shoes you don't have) by buying a much cheaper chink knockoff that looks close enough/making something that looks similar?
>>10792933Dumb answer but "it depends". Like - how much enjoyment do you get out of customizing things, how much will it bother you if a detail is inaccurate, do you think you'll wear the clothing outside of cosplay, etc.Like I actually bought a pair of Converses (albeit thrift-store used) rather than dirt-cheap no-name Walmart sneakers. It wasn't THAT much more expensive and I end up wearing them in my day-to-day life so it was worth the extra price for the nicer quality. However for a character that wears jewelry and high-fashion brands I definitely went for aliexpress/amazon/ebay knockoffs. I don't wear gaudy jewelry so I don't care that the gold and diamonds are fake. They pass the "costume quality" check, so even if a second glance reveals they're not legit it doesn't matter.
Is there a guide for people new to conventions in general?Such as using the maps and signs and junk to find things, or trying to meet, talk to and hang out with strangers at the convention?I'm trying to decide if i go to comic con for one day this year, the total cost would be about 100$ (94$), including 8$ badge (which i guess isn't needed, but just in case right?)Plus like another 100-120-150$ for 1 night hotel if i want to do that. (I think i rather sleep on street, i know, crazy)But last time i went i missed 1-2 big panels cause i couldn't find the room/way into room. One of the rooms had entrance in one location and exit in other, and i kept finding the exit. That's some bs.Anyways, do people/strangers meet to walk around with each other for like 8hrs for the day? (meet me?)I want more general convention help instead of just cosplay if possible? Thanks.
>>10792933It really is up to you. If you can afford it with money to spare and you want to be "accurate", I don't see why not. But to 99.9% of people seeing your photos and passing by at cons, they'll completely miss the detail and they wouldn't care anyways. Even in a cosplay contest it wouldn't matter since it's a bought piece.
>>10792958Go to the FB page or forum of the convention you're interested in and ask there. There will always be some nice folks willing to hand-hold you through baby's first con.
>>10792958Yes, there's tons of videos on Youtube about social courtesies, packing, making the most of your day, socializing, etc. >Anyways, do people/strangers meet to walk around with each other for like 8hrs for the day? (meet me?)I highly doubt you'll find someone to be with you for the entire day, but you might find a few different groups to meet up with during times of the day. I don't even stay with the group I came with at a con for the entire day, much less some strangers.
>>10792933Depends on how integral the accuracy of the items are to the character. I would look down heavily on a Nana cosplayer who used fake VW items, or someone cosplaying from something like kitai fuku ga aru and using a replica.
>>10792748>>10792879Thank you for the input. Guess youtube videos and sfx forums it is. Man, RIP my wallet
>>10792303No, just one of his many clones.>>10791523Yeah, looks good. This just looks like a basic black tactical vest with some clear PVC inserts. I might go for this and just buy a black plastic MICH style helmet.
While adjusting a cheapo AOT harness, one of the leg straps broke. Any ideas on how to fix this quickly without a sewing machine?
I am also doing a Kazuma cosplay from Konosuba and want to wrap a tsuka around the handle. Since it's just a plastic toy sword, any ideas on what would be a good wraping material for it? I thought maybe colored tape would work for it.
>>10793304Very strong glue or velcro
Pastel chalk stains bc i'm a careless retard...How do i remove it without hurting the fabric? Tried rubbing with some detergent but it didn't help much
>>10793304>Any ideas on how to fix this quickly without a sewing machine?you know you can sew things without a sewing machine, right?
>>10793362I'm not good enough at sewing to be confident it won't just snap again when I actually go out to wear it.>>10793345Would sticky velcro be able to stay on the leather strips while under stress? The part that broke is nromally attached to an elastic band that will pull on it.
>>10793304Fabritac
>>10793371Your best bet is Velcro or pleather glue, then at least hand-sewing a few stitches around the edges to anchor them. Using both together will give you the strongest hold short of a sewing machine.Hand-sewing is not hard. You need a good needle and thread that can go through the pleather and maybe a thimble or hard surface to help you push.
Where is a good place to get something 3d printed? I have the STL file - but its multiple small parts to make up a larger gauntlet and shapeways is asking for $13 per fingertip alone.
>>10793559if you dont live in the middle of nowhere, there should be local 3d printing services. when i didnt have a 3d printer, i just searched on etsy and facebook for one. i had one thing printed from this small private business and the other was printed from some dudes home. even though $13 does sound a bit overprice, it can be a little pricey. if its just a gauntlet, why not just make it yourself?
I need to do a some sort of pants that are semi transparent, now what would be better, mesh, tulle? Other, i would have it for 8 hours more or less for a con, so i want it to be the most comfortable as possible. Thanks for the help
>>10793559My local library has 3D printers, and there are several maker spaces with them. So see if your local library has any or google search "maker spaces
>>10793371>>10793427I second the other anon. You're correct: velcro alone won't do it, but when you use the right glue and thread it'll be indestructible.>the part that broke is nromally attached to an elastic band that will pull on it.Now this might be a problem. The velcro + glue + thread will definitely hold, but you might have difficulty with putting the harness on and off if there isn't enough stretch that an elastic band would usually give. You should add some elastic there instead then. Same rules apply though: the right strong glue, thread, etc.
hi! my best friend and i are planning to go to sacanime/planning some halloween costumes too, and i was wondering what would be some fun duo ideas?i'm the shorter one, a sea mexican(tm) while the taller one is my white/mexican friend. i know height and stuff doesn't really matter in cosplay, but it feels weird being noticebly shorter than her for the duo cosplays she suggested. and platformer boots/shoes are expensive..
Anyone have any experience with 3d printed masks? Gonna try 3dprinting my first mask but not sure how to get it to fit on my face. I assume I can use a heat gun later to get it to fit on my face but trying to research what my options are.
>>10793787Try the recommendation thread. Otherwise try a google image search for "anime duos" and go from there. >but it feels weird being noticebly shorter than her for the duo cosplays she suggestedThis is entirely in your head anon. No one except you is going to give a shit about this. You'll be miserable if you try stuffing your shoes or something for the con. At best you can ask your friend to do poses that lengthen her legs and you do poses that make you appear taller so that you might be around the same height.
>>10793864measure your face, scale the model to your size, print it out.dont want to sound rude but its not really rocket science. not sure why youre trying to over complicate things.
Thinking of getting a tattoo on my arm. Not asking for opinions as to whether or not I should. Can I apply temporary tattoos over top of foundation? I like to cosplay as the DC superhero Arsenal, which includes temp tattoos on the upper arms, right where I’m thinking of getting my own real tattoo. I know I can cover it with foundation, I just don’t know if temp tattoos work on makeup-covered skin.
>>10793427>>10793782>>10793415Thanks for the suggestions I'll give them a try.
>>10791849I was thinking irl changing of hues but it seems like the current material science isn't at that level yet where we can apply it to consumers. Thanks anon! >>10791926No white to purple, damn. Thanks you anon, I'll look back in a few years and see what's up.
>>10794155i would imagine it wont adhere that well because of the makeup. its just gonna be one of those things where youre just going to have to experiment with.
Is "western video game characters" too big of an umbrella for a photoshoot? The character I'd be cosplaying definitely doesn't have an IP popular enough for its own photoshoot (unpopular old western video game). I feel like western video games would include stuff like LoL, valve games, and overwatch that definitely have enough cosplayers to support their own shoots and while I don't have anything against these cosplayers, I'd want to have a shoot specifically for people who cosplayed western VG characters that don't have a big enough fanbase to warrant their own shoot. Is this a dumb idea in the first place? It'd be at katsucon so that's about 20k attendees and definitely a con that attracts a lot of cosplayers.
>>10794192It probably would be... generic meetups I've been to ("Marvel characters") are so open-ended they attract a ton of people and end up really complex to wrangle. I'd recommend finding one more adjective to narrow it down - genre, time period (I went to a "retro anime" shoot that had characters from 70s-00s), or even just specifying "obscure characters" would help.>the character I'd be cosplaying...Also just say the character and game.
>>10794155>>10794186I agree with the other anon. You might have to cover the real tattoos with makeup then use an arm sock (kind of like stockings) with the fake tattoos inked on, but do go be a scientist and try it out!
>>10794192>It'd be at katsucon so that's about 20k attendees and definitely a con that attracts a lot of cosplayers.but out of those 20k+ people, how many of them do you think are going to cosplay as some unpopular video game?then you also have to definite what you consider is an unpopular video game.
I am putting together a cosplay for Alador from The Owl House. I found a pretty good soviet navy greatcoat. I am going to get it tailored, buttons, sleeves, collar, color adjusted etc. HOWEVER:1. What do you think of the overall style match? II could keep looking for milsurp stuff2. Is it too short? I had an opportunity to buy a longer one, but I went shorter. How close is this length match?
>>10794589(ignore everything but the coat, the pants have nothing do with it)
>>10794589It looks almost spot on. The only areas for concern are that the sleeves need the be cropped, and that the shoulders could use some cloth to go past the arm.
>>10794643I'm not sure how the sleeves could be tailored in that way
>>10794654You could ask a tailor to actually cut the sleeves shorter. You could also try to roll your sleeves tight, or use an elastic band in the sleeve if it's too loose.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJkqfmRTpYI
>>10794660I meant shoulders, sorry. I'm not sure how to get them tailored so the shoulders flare out past the arms.
>>10794589Also, what shirt and belt should I get for him? The color appears to be slate-grey.The shirt style could be a mandarin collar wiith one button open. I'm not so sure what would be a good belt option
>>10794664Probably ask a tailor to sew some extra cloth of the same color to extend over the sholders, like pauldrons.>>10794683For the shirt, it looks more like a buttonless henley than a mandarin shirt.A velcro belt might be suitable for your costume.
when styling wigs, i noticed people use got 2 b hair spray when doing spikes. is that really all thats needed for it to keep it shape? or could you use something like a light spray on glue to kinda secure its shape?
>>10794691Yeah, that shirt looks more like the style. But I want a collar to protect my neck from chafing
>>10794696Have you used got2b hairspray before? It is super strong for lightweight spikes. You can spray on glue if you want, but it wouldn't wash out like hairspray.
>>10794711>Have you used got2b hairspray before?if ive used it before, i wouldnt be asking such a question, now would i? i figured the hairspray was used because its good at styling a wig but thought you still had to "seal" everything so to speak if you want to make sure everything is going to hold. like a sealer/topcoat when painting.
None of my cosplays have pocketsDo I have no option other than wearing a purse when cosplaying and looking gay
>>10794714why do you need to use a purse?
>>10794696Using a clear craft glue to seal spikes works. Got2b is good for wearing it a day or two of wear but will start separating after moving around in it too much or transporting the wig. You will want to first hit everything with GOT2B spray and once you like the look of things, seal the larger tips with craft glue. Mind you, only the hair tips and not the entirety of the spikes otherwise it's going to be hard as hell and start flaking off.
>>10794727Where do I put my phone and wallet? U0 my asshole?
>>10794748other bags exists other than purses you know.
>>10794713The hairspray is the seal.If you want to spray topcoat or sealer, it's your choice, but it's not like you're trying to lock in paint or anything, and you'll be breathing in micro-fragments of sealer as it chips off through the day. It's not meant to go on a wig after all. You can't wash it off, either, so your wig will be permanently destroyed after that.No styled wig is permanent. Some can last multiple wears with careful management, but there are always touch-ups between wears that you don't see, and eventually all wigs will slowly come apart from movement, transportation, humidity, climate, sweat, and natural wear & tear.
>>10794748Why don't you bring a light backpack? You're gonna need something to put your stuff in if you plan to buy anything anyways
>>10794696>is that really all thats needed for it to keep it shape? No, the styling does most of the heavy lifting to create the shape and structure. The glue is just to keep all the hairs in one place. Good glue with an insufficient structure won't do jack for a spike but keep the hairs together. In other words, it's gonna be floppy.>light spray on glueSo while this sounds good in theory, you're gonna battle flakes from the glue, discoloration, and chunky texture. Less is more. Like the other anon said, you could pinch the tips with some additional glue if you're worried but the Got2B and/or other hairspray will do the major lifting. I've seen some people use that brown bottle of craft glue or elmer's.
>>10794714Pockets are surprisingly easy to sew into garments if you're willing. You just slip it into a side or waist seam.
How do I get rid of that cheap chinese factory smell from a prop? Just put it outside overnight? Some product?
How to style wig without fake head help pls
>>10794913Why do you not have a fake head? They cost like 2$..I guess you can just ask your sister/roomate/friend to wear the wig and sit quietly for you while you work on the wig
>>10794913Use your own head. I know this is a stupid questions thread this is pure retardation.
>>10794913Buy a fake head.If you don't have access, buy a collapsible wig holder rack thing. If you can't access that, get out a vertical paper towel roll holder WITH a full roll of paper towel on it, a hand towel, and a couple of thick rubber bands. Wrap the towel around the top of the paper towel holder to round out the shape and use the rubber bands to secure. This method has worked for me on the fly at hotels.
if i have astigmatism are colored lenses bought online a no-go? i haven't gotten my prescription checked in years kek
>>10794996Better to get your eyes checked and ask an optometrist for colored lenses recommendations. You only have 1 pair of eyes and cosplay isn’t worth risking scratching your cornea or damaging your vision for.
>>10794996I have mild astigmatism and had no problem with just regular colored contacts, they do make ones with a custom curve for astigmatism but they're more expensive
>>10794912I don't think it'll need to go outside, but hanging it in your bathroom or in a well-ventilated space should do it. There's a well known theater trick to get smells out of clothes you can't wash by using a vodka diluted by water in a spray bottle and letting it dry. I've also heard sticking it in the freezer (in a ziplock bag) can also help eradicate smells.
How trigger happy is con moderation nowadays? If I wear my schrodinger cosplay will they make me take off the swastika arm band?
>>10795081From my experience, mods are still understanding that it’s just a cosplay. If you’re really that afraid of the con police (kek), wear a plain armband even though it won’t be accurate at all.
>>10795117I'm thinking I'll just not give a fuck and if anyone asks for pics I'll do a nazi salute for the poseI'll probably be drunk so I doubt I'll be able to care
Realistically, if I have zero experience, can I learn makeup in like 2 weeks? As in, become good enough that I don't look out-of-place or get weird glances
>>10795152What do you mean by makeupIf you mean just putting on foundation and maybe eyeliner, sure
>>10795154Well I am a male but I look very androgynous and "twinkish". Friends used to tease me and call me femboy (I am not, I am straight and do not crossdress or anything)I have been told that if you want to do a "pretty boy" character for cosplay you need makeup or else you are cringe. I have been trying to find tutorial for male makeup but its always tutorial for women trying to crossplay so I'm not sure thats a good idea. What would you recommend?
>>10795159You just evenly coat with primer to fill pores then you put down an even coat of foundation and set with powderI always use foundation as a guy since I have freckles and none of the characters I cosplay as do, also it just makes my face look younger
>>10795160Where do you get all your makeup stuff? Drugstore? Or do you actually buy sephora?
>>10795163AmazonI'm a simple manI have to use very pale foundation since my skin is as white as it gets
>>10795148The "worst" outcome of this is that someone stupid thinks you're an actual neo-nazi and I somehow don't think you care about that.
(original idea do not steal)I'm trying to cosplay as this guy. Gonna drop a lot of money on it. The easy parts: -have someone custom-make a domino mask to match the white part perfectly.-Custom-make the cape with the insides being a glittering gold cloth, with built-in shoulder pads to provide the shape-colored contacts + black face paint behind the mask's holes-feathered head-dress/crown combo that could be fixed to the maskI have some important decisions to make though.-how should I handle the jaw component of the head? That is, the head below the venetian mask? Face paint? Some kind of fabric? This is my biggest problem so far, because I want to be able to talk easily-What's the best way to get a stiff collar that doesn't look cheesy? Just use stiff materials? All the materials I'm going to use are going to be of silky regal quality
>>10795342Also, the cloak curves inward below the shoulder's points when his arms are at his sides. How do I emulate this tight effect? Must the cloth be tailored that specifically?
>>10795163different anon but i just buy on amazon. or if you want to buy it in store, just buy it at target or something.no reason to go to an actual makeup/beauty store since youre just doing basic cosplay makeup. also, makeup tutorials but with women are fine since they will provide you with basic info about how to apply makeup and shit.
>>10795342>(original idea do not steal) Kek now that you said something....But seriously, for the head keep in mind you likely will be wearing face masks due to mandates (or convention rules). so what ever you do I recommend you keep in mind you need to breathe. You could do face paint which would look less tacky than a piece of cloth and easier to breathe. another option is an Anthro headCollar you can buy pretty thick interfacing I used it for Sailor bows and they get the job done. Any fabric store should have themPer the Cloak Curves. you can probably get away with interfacing and a bit of wire..
I want to cosplay Alessi from Jojo's but i dont know how to make a wig to get "stiff" like this. Picrel is Alessi.Do i use some sort of wire?
If I want to achieve this effect with the hat where it covers my eyes, should I get a big hat? something that isn't my size?
>>10795704Just get a hat in your size with a really wide brim and wear it at an angle
>>10795164>>10795358What stuff do you recommend, amazon-anons? Im a complete beginner
>>10794589Same Alador guy here. I'm looking for his goggles and his pants now. Any ideas?
>>10795772>pants Should be easy to find, they are very generic>gogglesMaybe find steampunk goggles and paint them purple, since you wont have to actually see through them anyway
>>10795773What are the pants? Harem pants?
>>10795704Like the other anon says, angle is more important. In a lot of anime, illustrations, and figures it's clear that Jigen is tilting his hat rather than having it actually sit that much lower on his head. Plus for practicality if you get a hat that's too big it'll just be loose and uncomfortable. Just look for a nice wide brim.
>>10795778They’re literally plain white pants that have the cuff rolled up…
>>10795665You could approach it from a couple of different ways. It wouldn't hurt to watch some tutorials for other big wigs for characters like Peridot (Steven Universe), Yu-Gi-Oh, Momo Yayorozu from My Hero Academia, etc. There's also the book about crazy wigs by Cowbutt Crunchies. In a nut: You're going to need a base structure. This can be made from worbla, boning, thin wire or plastic mesh etc. Then you'll want to add a base layer to create the foundation and padding -- it'll need to match the color of the hair so it doesn't stick out. Some people use batting, felt, thin foam, etc. Finally, you'll want to style the wig. You achieve the poof the same way you spike a wig: tease the center layer, hairspray it, and cool with a hair dryer. Finally, you'll layer the clean outer layer hair on top and tack it into place using hair spray (and possibly a clear drying glue for stubborn tips). Then profit.
>>10795766MakeupAlley and reviews on Sephora/Ulta will be helpful for picking a specific brand, but in terms of makeup you should shop for:>primer- also important to factor in your skin type (oily, dry, or combo) and the effect you're going for (dewy / glossy or matte) when picking.>foundation- you can get color matched at any Sephora for free if you walk in. Then you can use the number given to buy from other brands by googling the equivalent colors for other brands.>concealer>makeup sponges>brushes (specifically two shadow brushes -- a flat one to apply and a fluffy one to blend, a blush brush, a bronzer brush, and powder brush)>brow pencil and brush>powder or sealant>matte bronzer>blush>black eyeliner pencil >black or clear mascara>setting sprayI know this sounds like a lot, but this is a pretty standard face of makeup. If you really must reduce it down, you'll notice a difference in outcome but go for: foundation, brow pencil, concealer, primer, and setting spray
Recommendations on what to use to make Vergil's shirt? I have no idea where to even start for fabric. I was also thinking foam might be viable instead.
What genshit characters are most popular with girlsI have 10 different costumes but I don't feel like wearing more than 1 a day at the next con
>>10795841Almost all of themHere's the deal:If you pick the most popular ones like Venti/Raiden Shogun, everyone will recognize youIf you pick the less popular ones, there are enough fans that they will be even more excited to find a cosplayer of their favorite rarer cosplayer
>>10795805>recommending sephorakek
>>10795945I mean even at huge cons I very rarely see any guys cosplay genshin. I'd say its minimum 90% girls and at least half of them are crossplayers. I didn't mention that I'm a a short dude which obviously means I'm limited to short male characters like kazuha if I want to look decent. But I figure even in a kazuha cosplay I doubt there will be many if any guys doing the same cosplay.
>>10795952Sounds like you've already made up your mind, just go do Kazuha. He's popular.Or be Venti, all girls and dudes want to fuck Venti.
>>10795963>Or be Venti, all girls and dudes want to fuck Venti.I probably will next time, I'm making a lyre but it's not done. How popular is xingqui?
Which translates better in the 3d world?Black falsies and pink eyeshadow or white falsies and pink eyeshadow? I can't seem to find pure pink lashes in the uk but I don't think it would be good anyway cause there should be contrasting colors. Also what should I use for the "scar" on his mouth? lip liner or some kinda pencil contourer or something? I'd like something that won't get fucked over if I have to wear a cloth mask for a bit.
Hey danmei crowd, is there a specific name for this type of Jedi-looking surcoat? (As distinct from the flowing robes type?)Also how does the middle piece of the surcoat attach? Is it attached to the two pieces that come over the chest? Does it hang from the belt?
Does makeup fixer works for face paint and stuff?
>>10796125Just buy a bottle of Ben Nye Final Seal.
>>10796123>surcoatthat's not what this is you faggot.
>>10796123That's a historical Chinese garment, forget the name but it's like a proto kimono
>>10796150this is also incorrect. it's very very loosely based on tang dynasty hanfu.
>>10796148>>10796152Does it have a more specific name than hanfu, which the internet seems to use for “all old Chinese clothes”? Also again how does the center bottom part attach, given that it’s a large single piece rather than two pieces like Jedi tabards?
>>10796155no, it's mostly a fantasy hanfu. that's why i said tang dynasty. also, the jedi outfits are fantasy as well you can just attach it however you want.
>>10796162Thanks. I wasn’t sure if the weird center piece had a historical basis that I should be modeling it on. Glad to know that I can do whatever lazy shit I want.
>>10796167nope, don't worry! most chinese style character designs are only loosely basd on traditional hanfu, and even traditional hanfu aren't historically accurate much of the time to the point that period media uses fantasy designs. there are also hanfu communities that could tell you what elements the costume takes from, but most of it is fantasy.
What would you do for these spikes? I was thinking to cut slits and poke sherpa-covered foam cones through the otherwise normal sleeve. But I worry that will look too stiff.
>>10796180wool felting? then just sew it on or you can attach it if you get a wool coat.
>>10795950I don't buy from Sephora, but it is one of the most frequented makeup stores and as such has tons of reviews. I didn't advertise buying from there, just to read the reviews.
>>10795839Honestly I'm not sure what material it's supposed to be in canon. Pressed leather maybe? That seems mighty uncomfortable under a zip up and heavy jacket, but I digress. I'd go with foam too desu. It'd be cheaper and easier than trying to mess with that intricate pattern.
>>10796188>go to sephora and get shade matchedriiiight
>>10796099I think the red is supposed to be closer to a warm deep brown color irl. They do sell brown mascara but it's pretty useless tbqh. I'd say brown falsies and red/brown shadow.>scarif it were a more natural looking scar, I'd say liquid latex but it's a pretty uniform shape so eyeliner and cream shadow or body paint with a good sealant. >'d like something that won't get fucked over if I have to wear a cloth mask for a bit.If you want to protect the scar makeup, you might to chose a 3d mask that sits away from your face or at least one of those plastic cages that goes underneath the cloth mask to move it away from your face. Otherwise, it's gonna smear
>>10796190Anon, either contribute or unclench.
>>10796192i have been, stop trying to pretend you haven't been shilling sephora when you obviously have.
>>10796193Jesus christ anon, I mentioned it twice in a single post where I also gave two alternatives. If you know somewhere else to get shade matched, just say that instead of hopping on my cunt about it.
>>10796196NTA but your entire post was pretty stupid. And why would you suggest people get shade matched at Sephora and then shop elsewhere? Any high end makeup store/brand has workers who will shade match you. Macy's or other big box makeup departments do this. Part of the issue is that Sephora workers do a shit job and just try to sell their exclusive products.
>>10796197>why would you suggest people get shade matched at Sephora and then shop elsewhere?Because shopping at Sephora sucks and I didn't know anywhere else to get shade matched. Now that you've explained, Sephora can be removed from the equation.
>>10796200You didn't know because you don't know what you're actually talking about.
>>10796199>>10796197lol why did you delete your post?
>>10796201Okay, anon.
>>10796204Because I missed the "nta" at the beginning of the post and wasn't talking to the same anon.
WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO FIND A TAILOR FOR COSPLAY?I have money to spend on a rather specific costume and I need a tailor. I want to maximize quality and minimize cost (duh) for something rather specific. The shape/cut is specific and details are important. Tips?
>>10796214find a local tailor to do it for you
>>10796226Do i search by specialization? Or should any tailor do?Is this strictly better than outsourcing to china?
>>10796273Just show a picture of what you want to the tailors whose work impresses you the most, and ask if they'll do it.Outsourcing to China has risks but they're more likely to give you the "yes" on making it.
>>10796274How do I find a tailor's work?
>>10796277On their website...? How else are you going to find them?
>>10796214Tailors don't make costumes, anon. They modify existing garments to better fit you. You're looking for a seamstress to commission.
>>10796286*I should say sewist, it doesn't have to be a woman necessarily.
>>10796287Goddammit anon you’re on 4chan you don’t need to apologize for gendered language.
>>10796290Haha, I appreciate the reassurance. Force of habit, I guess.
>>10796214Depends on your budget, timeline, and priority for quality. You can try:- reaching out to known commissioners or people who work you admire. Send a short, polite message asking if they'd take on a commission, perhaps include ONE reference image with the character name/series. If the person has a dedicated commission details page, check that first.- check out a commission group on social media, such as one of the many cosplay commission groups on Facebook or your local cosplay group. Follow the group's rule when posting.- find a commission platform site like Cosmosii and browse through available commissioners there- message one of the many China-based cosplay sites that offer custom costume/commissions, or even through their basic customer support.- reach out to a IRL friend or relative
how to get over anxiety con alone
>>10796394Drink alcoholCan you still think?Drink moreDo you care what other people think?Drink moreAre you falling over and vomiting a lot?Drink slightly less
>>10796394Non-drinking answer: Just remember most weebs are statistically more socially retarded and inept than you
>>10796402Nta butThat doesn't help me at all. The thing is I talk to people and at least a good third of them are noticeably "off", to the point I feel bad for trying to be nice and compliment them since I feel like it's upsetting them for someone to be even giving a passing compliment and it makes me feel like I just kicked a retarded puppyAnd then I worry that's what other people feel like about me when I talk to themaybe I'm retarded
>>10796394Dress up as Ya Boi KongmingCrash cosplay meetups for danmei charactersRoll in fujo pussy
>>10796394For me it's helpful to treat each interaction with a stranger as a throwaway. If it turns into a longer conversation or hangout: great! If I feel a vibe that they're not interested in talking: I politely exit the convo and we leave it on a happy note. Sometimes I'll prematurely end a convo when I feel it's gonna go dry so there's no awkward moment. And if you do find yourself fucking up, just remember that these people likely will forget about you and you will forget about them. Think: will you remember this in a month? a year? 5 years? If it's minimal enough that it's a no: shake it off and move to the next opportunity. Have resilience and patience for yourself and you'll do great.
>>10796397>>10796402>>10796416>>10796443Thanks i may drink one beer beforehand and take it lightly. I'm fine with full randoms but going alone and knowing some people there (who don't exactly like me *i think*) is harder10 hours from the con lets goo
What's the best way to get a mask (that's totally detached and separate from anything) to conform better to your chin and especially neck area so it looks more skin tight while still being completely detachable? Specifically for a costume with a crew neck top as well.
>>10796449One beer would do literally nothing for meAre you Asian lol
>>10796506you could experiment wid dis, either hard obrer in one, no border in the other or half and half shared border
Some friends and I have been working on Alpha Team cosplays from REmake, and been trying to figure out how best to ape the masks' lense effect. Our current best guess for an effect similar to this is red film + black paint of some kind around the edgesThere any other technique that might create this effect anyone knows about?
Any good stores, preferrably in europe where I could get a binder that doesn't have too wide shoulder straps? I need to wear it under a tanktop, all my current ones stay visible and it bothers me, they're from gc2b
>>10796680Do you need a straight up binder for your purposes? A tight sports bra (size down) might be way to go.
What medication will make me forget I'm uglyMost conventions don't require masks now and I feel like vomiting when I see myself without one
>>10796690Just do a cosplay with a mask. Or wear a mask anyway, I can't imagine any con would actually ban you from wearing one.
I've been wondering about this for a long time and I'm hoping for an honest/realistic answer:Why are so many of the top seamstresses from the US so fat? I get the US has a high rate of obesity, but whenever I find someone with amazing cosplay handiwork, it's almost always a bigger girl if not a hambeast. I'm so confused. Sewing doesn't mean you have to be fat. None of the Asian cosplay sewists I follow are nearly as fat, the chubbiest usually being housewives who have children on top of their hobby.
>>10796843If I had to take a guess, it's probably because they first got into sewing to make their own clothes. It's hell shopping as a fat person, shit doesn't fit right (you can't just scale up thin people clothing, you gotta adjust the proportions) and all the pretty and/or cute shit doesn't come in your size.
Where do I even ask if my cosplay fits rightThey look kind of strange since I could only find pretty made in women's sizes even though it's a male character
When a girl asks to take a pic with me what level of physical contact is okay?Like is it okay if I put my arm around her shoulder?
>>10796889Zero unless you ask first.
>>10796889Always ask first.I always grant permission to someone who asks. If they don't, I post their picture and point out how they didn't ask for permission.
>>10796890But they always touch me and don't askHalf of them put their arm on my shoulderI just stand there awkwardly
>>10796899>If they don't, I post their picture and point out how they didn't ask for permission.Like what are they going to post?"This weak effeminate 5'4" venti cosplayer put his arm around my shoulder without asking. I was afraid for my life."I just don't get it, what's with the double standard girls never ask to put their hands on me they just do iit.
>>10796900You can let them know if you don't want to be touched like that. They should be asking you too. Just because they don't doesn't make it okay for you to do the same.
>>10796907>You can let them know if you don't want to be touched like thatI mean it's just the shoulders. Though thinking about it I guess it would be gross if a guy did it so I guess you're right. I mean even if a fat ugly girl puts her arm around my shoulder that's fine but guys are icky ew.
>>10796904I'm a woman and I haven't really been asked by a girl for permission to touch. I generally don't like the feel of women, they're soft and squishy. Men are harder and feel like substance.
whats the name of this style of hat? only thing i can think of that fits is an ss uniform replica but i'd rather go for something cheaper and not associated with nazis
Is it overthinking that I only vosplay characters within like 3" of my height? I just really only like to cosplay characters if I look pretty close to the actual character. Wouldn't it look retarded if I cosplayed a 6' character as a 5'5" guy?
>>10797003I feel similarly. I am fairly effeminate looking and want to crossplay, but I'm 6'1 and feel weird cosplaying anime girls when most of the ones who I like are barely 5 feet tall. I feel like I'm too tall to really do many characters justice.
>>10797036But there's plenty of characters, Alucard, gilgamesh, kotomine kirei to name a fewAlucard is one I kind of wish I could do but it looks ridiculous if you're under 6ft
>>10796287"seamster" is the world you're looking for
>>10797079That makes me think of spinster, but if that's the word then alright!
>>10797079a seamster is a male seamstress
>>10796998"Peaked cap" is the generic term, you'll find a lot vary in terms of build, bill material, and so forth so you should be able to easily find what you need.>>10797003>>10797036Personally I feel like a cosplayer matching build or height is only really noticeable if it's a major part of their character design (ie Kanamori is tall, Wario is fat) that you're not matching. But ultimately it comes down to if you think you'll like how you look. I have a friend who's 6'3" and he cosplays vtubers really well despite not being petite. I wouldn't let height disqualify you from cosplaying a character you like.
>>10797083thx anon!
>>10796506i hate when people ask complex questions like this but they dont even say what cosplay they are doing.why is everyone so fucking scared at saying what cosplay they are doing?just say what it is so it will give people a better understanding at what youre trying to achieve. god damn!
