anyonw here going to GAMMACON?
>>
Hope you found tickets and had a good time Nonny.
>>
Anyone going to the Crunchyroll anime convention in Melbourne around September?

Melbourne might finally have something that rivals SMASH this year
>>
>>10788550
lol
>>
Honestly I liked the layout of SMASH 2019 more than this year's SMASH, still really enjoyed my day though. It felt smaller this year but honestly it might of been because I wasn't wearing my glasses because. cosplay. Excited for next year already!
>>
Being an Adelaidebro hurts /cgl/. We have to wait until next year to MAYBE get our state's main con back.
>>
How did everyone find SMASH? The lines were a fcking shitshow if you ask me and I'm not a fan of cosplaymodels being judges for cosplay comps but it was nice to have a con after so long again. Hope they will bring Crunchyroll Expo here because one anime con isn't really enough.
>>
>>10789119
It was cool to see Kevin Penkin. He's not a great speaker but he has some interesting shit to say and his music is some of my favourite OSTs of all time.
>>
>>10789119
What do you mean, cosplay competitions shouldn't be a popularity contest? Getta load of this guy
>>
>>10789119
Lines was indeed a shitshow. Good thing I was able to skip all that despite how packed it was. Artist alley was completely choked and was wearing a mask coz apparently covid was in the vicinity. I didn't care for cosplayers desu but I went to do my thing; bought shit, meet friends especially ones I've not seen since 2020 when Madfest Sydney happened while being there as a guest. Happy days
>>
>>10790073
As a guest?
>>
>>10790073
I caught a pretty bad not-covid cold while I was there.
>>
>>10790081
Yessir
Also there was a photographer who was being rude towards cosplayers. Goes by zen photocraft media, Sydney based. Also a known creeper too
>>
>>10789490
I mean the judges being cosplay guests who are just whoever is cosfamous for being hot shouldn't be a thing lol

>>10790645
elaborate pls
>>
>>10791311
Caught shooting very low angles (exposed underwear) back in 2020. Disappeared for those few years.

Was at smash this year apparently harassing cosplayers for photos otherwise takes candid photos esp without cosplayers kmowing. Most people forgotten who he is except a few.

Having said that, his cosplay photography is shit and gets zero coverage
>>
>>10788550
Bit late but yeah, going with some mates.
Got no idea what to expect since my main cons are PAX and a couple Supanovas here and there but I'm keen.
I'm in no shape to cosplay, though.
>>
>>10791871
how convenient for him but I guess since he's pretty irrelevant he can escape under the radar mostly

>>10796822
enjoy, i mean they've only announced two guests anyway

It's good that one of the cosplay judges is an actual cosplay creator who makes their own costumes and not just a model cosplayer, wondering who the other guests are.
>>
>>10797928
The one from Perth?
I've heard she's a bit of a bitch.

What's up with all the infighting in cosplay circles here?
>>
>>10798594
Which one? Lots of them here in Perth

CRX was a fucking disaster LMFAO
>>
So who has the tea for the fuck up with the lines at CRX? Also need deets on the alleged fights and volunteer walk out
>>
>>10807492
apparently someone was bitten + multiple volunteers were put into first aid, some people were there for up to 6 hours and the crunchyroll instagram account put out a statement saying they will have the same capacity issues tomorrow. they sold 8000 tickets for both days when they were supposed to sell 4000 each day, the venue has a capacity of 5000. people were also being refused entry even if they had a wristband from friday / just left the con to get food, lines also merged eventually and there was no management of which way it was going or people cutting in
>>
>>10807488
A girl i hate spent thousands of dollars getting a hotel and flying to melbourne just to be turned away so i think that justifies the hundreds of people getting fucked over actually lol
>>
>>10807493
Music stage is above 85dB / legal limit
and giving artist alley shellshock
>>
Organisers have abandoned con-staff, maggots in official crunchyroll merch, no disability priority access, cancellations leaving empty booths that were never filled from the waitlist, exhibitors only pulling in a quarter of the sales that they were getting compared to Smash

How is Perth for cons and events? Do people often fly over to the east coast for events? Only started going to things here this year as I wasn't even aware we really had any besides Supanova so never been to anything else in my life
Hoshi and Pixel were pretty fun, Pixel the most, it's really made me wanna start going to them all and get more involved as these things have been definite highlights through the year
>>
kinda interested in how CRX is gonna deal with the fallout from this weekend. surely refunds at least, right? (probably not)

>>10807502
honestly i know more people who fly over to WA for their cons than the other way around. they're not bad. it's probably just my personal experience though
>>
>>10807488
It was the same as SMASH, underwhelming
>>
>>10807528
they managed it a lot better the second day, refunds are apparently being issued in 7-10 days for those who didn’t get their wristbands scanned. I’m not sure about those flying in from other states though.
>>
>>10807653
Lol what. Atleast you could get into smash
>>
>>10807695
Me and my friends went there on Friday and grabbed the tickets. Also, we basically pushed in line when we got there and dropped 30 minutes from the wait time lol

When we got in there it had 90% of the same booths/artists SMASH had. Also, I swear to god half the people in the artists alley had BO or forgot to wipe that day because it smelled like actual shit
>>
>>10807696
>When we got in there it had 90% of the same booths/artists SMASH had
Isnt that bascially every Con/anime festival in australia?
Its been the same shit at every single one ive been to (admittedly only like 5, but still.).
>>
Bros is FGO dead?
There was barely any fate cosplay at CRX.
Has Genshin completely wiped it out? I know some people were sick of FGO, but surely no one wanted this to be the new thing.
>>
>>10807712
If not dead, then it's in a period of lower popularity compared to a few years ago. I always believed that Fate's popularity goes up and down throughout the years. Maybe somewhere down the line it'll bounce up again.

Any anons know any good thrifting locations in Melbourne? Also what price points are considered too expensive even for thrifting standards? Same for fabric, I have no idea what price for 1m of fabric is considered too expensive or not. Everything seems expensive. I just want to learn how to sew as complete beginner.
>>
>>10807849
Best thrift store is Savers in Footscray. Don't give your money to Salvos, and smaller independent thrift stores are usually much more expensive due to the smaller turnaround of customers.

There's a vendor in QVM on the weekends which usually sells fabrics for cheap. Even better, if you're in the West side, there's a fabrics store near Sunshine station with notoriously cheap prices.

Good luck anon. It's been a while since I've bought fabrics so I'm unsure of the prices nowadays, but around $0.50-3 per metre of cotton is a good deal.
>>
>>10807874
Nice, thanks anon. Coincidently I live in Sunshine so I will use this advice well.
>>
What was everyones favourite cosplay they saw at CRX?
i have a soft spot (in my penis' heart) for Azula from the last airbender so that cosplayer in the competition got my blood running.
I had a good time in mine. I see why people really get into cosplay, its pretty gratifying when people come up all excited to get photos with you, and to get photos with other characters from your series of choice.

Oh yeah that one was great. Couldn't get a great pic of him myself sadly, best being pic related.
It was definitely impressive and looked very high quality.
Though i do understand how he didn't win the competition. As other than being an impressive design, he had no stage presence, few practiced poses, nothing dynamic. Not that i can talk, i wouldnt be able to get up there at all. But the winners had very detailed cosplays and presented themselves so well. I imagine it was a pretty close competition.

Bump … because PAX-AUS is just around the corner
>>
>>10807665
Yup, gots refund
>>
Echoing the bump from earlier.
Is the AUS scene/community on a lifeline because of Covid? I figured events like CRX (lol) and SMASH would've jump-started post-covid con discussion.

Anyone planning to dress up for PAX? Going solo for 2/3 days after my initial showfloor binge, hoping to hang.
>>
>>10810870
To be fair, we don't have much infighting or drama aside from what happened at CRX, nor big players that spark controversy and discussion, which is why Australian boards tend to be slow.

Regardless, nah going casual for pax too. CRX has scratched my cosplay itch and I'm just too old and tired to go for another round so soon.
>>
>>10810903
Yeah, its understandable. I usually swing by here this time of year to see what Aus threads are up. I remember a bit of shit being talked a couple years back but nothing major.

Took CRX with a slice of caution and my group managed to get 'some' enjoyment out of it; before leaving to go put stuff in our cars, use bathrooms, and then get told we had to wait at the back of a 4 hour long line. Saw some good cosplays, keen to see how this week goes.

Just taking it easy and re-purposing my ANZAC uniform into something more casual, probably won't know until last minute. Hopefully the thread picks up relatively soon.
>>
Any OnlyFans cosplayers looking to make some extra money at PAX?
>>
> No updates
Guess we'll see how tomorrow goes.
Godspeed, gulls.
>>
Whoever invented printed bodysuits deserves a medal. There's some BIG butts on the con floor today
>>
>lining in the rain again
I'll give them credit. It isnt as fucked as CRX
>>
>>10811367
You can't say this and not share pics, anon
>>
Happy first day everyone!
I'm still too chickenshit to pick up any con girls. Maybe tomorrow haha... Hah...
>>
>>10811451
I'm not gonna get myself kicked out for creepshotting but there was a Dark Magician Girl, Bowsette and Cortana with dumpers just hanging out for the world to see. Kids were watching! Really surprised things got that indecent on a Friday
>>
Anyone have good experiences with the convention afterparties hosted by Glitch? I keep getting their ads but I can't imagine a whole bunch of sweaty weebs condensed in one place would be a pleasant experience.
>>
>>10811485
Didn't go, but I saw them too.
Hoping the Fortress Gala isn't bad. Me and some friends are just planning to chill there, though it might be weird if its just me cosplaying.
>>
>>10811468
If there was a way to ask a cosplayer to stomp on your nuts I would have asked that Tifa by now
>>
Holy SHIT someone tell me they got a photo of that Peach
>>
>>10811594
This one?
>>
>>10811611
No, there were two Bowsettes and a Peach that basically had shiny leotards on and not much else
>>
>>10811618

>>
>>10811617
Seriously if that Peach is reading this please ruin my life. I'll pay your hotel fee. Just step on me or something
>>
>>10811472
saw this girl with bandages wrapped around her and when it got to her behind it all just rode up her bum and all was just hanging out in all it's glory. no idea what she was cosplaying ... peak covid toilet paper girl maybe?
>>
Bros Melbourne convention scene legit killing it right now. How many conventions is too many?
>>
anyone got the tea on the RNG drama thats making the twitter rounds?
>>
>>10807488
I lobbyconned and stayed outside so was fine for me.. I feel really bad for the people that came from interstate or even international for it.. time off work, travel costs, hotel costs.. god
>>
>>10811933
Xmas one might not be that big, too lat announcement, and it’s at the Showgrounds.
>>
>>10812138
On a second thought... Gosh this actually hurts to read. Either an extremely tone deaf marketing team or ironically cringe for the sake of attention.
>>
The Instagram girlies are all vaguing about about a Melb tog being a creep, does anyone know who it is this time?

Can anyone tell me if Kyle ‘captain America’ is still in the scene lol
>>
>>10811485
Well, some of the TOs for the PAX console tournaments didn't show up the next day because of it, so they seemed like fun.
>>
>>10812138
>>10812144
lmao
>>
>>10814273
Is anyone going to actually go though? I mean the dates mean that most people would be on holidays and can afford a trip interstate, but at the same time, it honestly looks lame and cringe
>>
>>10814308
Probs better more for local peeps for another chance to socialise and those who may not be able to make it home to have any type of Xmas celebration I guess
>>
>>10789015
It's never going to really come back, the shitshows been in a death spiral for seveal years. No financing, piss poor managment, organisation shitshow.
>>
Did anyone get photos at supanova in Brisbane this weekend? I've been looking for a few I saw but weren't able to cut across for photos, and the best Ahsoka I saw having a break and then not again after.

I was there all day and the number of people I saw once was staggering. I know there were a bunch of Ravens there, as I passed two outside and have seen photos of about 4 others, but aside from the two outside didn't spot another.

That said, just me or has the quality of cosplay gone down at aus cons? I haven't been to one in years but it used to be god tier. Now it's crappy stitching and about 50 people doing the one genshin impact character badly, I don't remember the scene being that bad before.
>>
>>10816807
Nigga we've been forced into isolation for the last 2 years I don't think there were many mainstream cons...
Also because of the restrictions I'd wager commission artists had to get real jobs
>>
>Adelaide supanova is this weekend
Somehow I only just realised today.
Surely just showing up alone with absolutely zero plans wont be a total waste of time.
>>
>>10817196
Are you trying to get paid or something?
>>
>>10817357
Nah nothing like that. Just wandering around alone.

Cosplay never used to be a big thing here but what there was, was very good. I just don't feel that anymore.

Lots of people taking photos with big expensive cameras, but I think I've seen maybe 3 people dump photos online? Otherwise, it's just been a smattering of people having taken pics and posting them on facebook. That's also sad.
