Is fanexpo just people doing American media cosplay or do people doing jap cosplay also go? I only do jap cosplay so I don't want to be that guy.
>>
>>10774755
It's an all in one con. Anime will be there, but expect lots of other fandoms, too.
>>
>>10774756
I will ignore them like I ignore genshin cosplayers. Honestly anime conventions are like 30% anime cosplayers at this point with how many people just slap on a genshin cosplay. At least American media usually has better character design than the Chinese abomination of gacha.
>>
Hitting Anime Fest and Colossal Con
Looking forward to seeing what Colossal is like. I'm not expecting much but the resort looks fun.
>>
>>10774765
Lots of normies, lots of water, and lots of fun if you have a good group to get drunk with. Usually what happens is everyone congregates at the bottom floor at the bar.
>>
>>10774766
Oh that's unfortunate, I don't use alcohol since it's bad for the body and ages you. I'll just snort my ketamine alone.
>>
Gonna be around for YumiCon on Saturday with extremely low expectations, given that it's $30 for a two day pass and in a strip mall. But hey, I'm in the area, so might as well.

From there's it's Colossal Texas again and SanJapan for the main event, as shitty as their policies might be.
>>
>>10774750
can't wait to see celeste-harley in those skin tight see thru leggins. every photographer literally lines up to ask her to take pics.
>>
>>10774755
Fan Expo covers American media as well as anime. They do conventions across the country and have a decent guest list. They have the hobbits from the Lord of the Rings at this years con.

As far as anime goes they do have VA's but they are all dubbed ones so, yeah, not really worth going to see them. They do have other VA's as well.

AA and dealers room are both good here.
>>
>>10774772
>SanJapan
Yeah, the fact they are doing mask mandates, and covid papers or negative tests makes it easy to say no.
>>
>>10774950
Dont go to SJ. Not worth it anymore with their mandates and obsessive staff.
>>
>>10774950
This is why I decided not to go. The fact that you have to provide a test "48 hours" before "the con" (no definition on when that is) but hotel reservations require a 72 hour advance cancelation means if I did manage to catch it I would be out hundreds. Or worst case scenario I would drive down there and then test positive because I was planning to arrive before the con.

Definitely not worth the hassle to plan a trip with their extreme rules. It's fine because gas keeps climbing anyway.
>>
Anyone at Dallas Fan Expo this weekend?
>>
>>10774952
Is SJ that bad now?
I haven't been in like 5 years, but since I live in San Antonio its the only really big con in the area.
>>
>>10775369
I went today but I'm feeling suicidal (ironically fuck you police) so I don't know if I want to go tomorrow. Also I've been too depressed to talk to anyone irl for months now so I just walk around aimlessly.
>>
>>10775618
I don't know how it is post covid but it was fine in 2019. I think a lot of anons are extra salty about their very excessive covid rules which I get, especially since last year (when it was worse) they were less extreme.

Why a con in TX is requiring proof of vax is beyond me
>>
>>10775618
Went last year, it was fantastic. Enjoyed the fact they don't allow sardine panels anymore desu, nothing was worse than being crushed between landwhales.
>>
Other upcoming cons:

Okashicon July 8-10
Delta H August 19-21
Kyokai Con June 25-26
Anime Houston August 12-14
>>
>>10775620
Are the police being dicks up at the con?
>>
>>10775632
>I think a lot of anons are extra salty about their very excessive covid rules which I get
This is a big one.

SJ is the only con in TX right now that is requiring papers. If they are forcing people to show their papers then for a lot of people they can go to another con. There is literally a con going on every weekend in TX so it isn't like it was in 2020 or 2021, fans can pick whatever con they want to go to. So if one is telling you that you need papers or a negative test but there is nothing special at the con then you can just skip it and go to another one next weekend.
>>
>>10775812
I don't get why this is a big deal, everyone has their shots by now so its not a big issue to just show it
>>
>>10775826
Uh because I shouldn't have to share my personal medical history with a random weeb con volunteer

Also we still, too my knowledge, haven't hit 70% of the population vaccinated. The prime demo of an anime con is even lower. Not to mention bu the time SJ happens it will have been months since anyone has thought about wearing a mask or covid. It's just bad business to require avax card.
>>
>>10775826
Because the last time I checked I'm not living in the Soviet Union or modern day China.
>>
>>10775827
>>10775832
>BUT MUH PRIVACY
every school you've ever had to go to requires you to show various vaccination records.
>>
>>10775836
I don't know what communist schools you have gone to but I haven't.

But hey, if we need to prove we are vaccinated against a disease that has a global mortality rate that is below 0.1% then we should be asking for papers for any disease that has a higher mortality rate. If you haven't been vaccinated against it then you are denied service.
>>
>>10775838
Basically every school requires meningitis vaccines among others. If you ever work near a hospital or health care you need TB among others.
>>

Reposting from the previous Texas thread, thoughts on AnimeFest? Back before covid it's been a consistently comfy convention so I'm wanting to go again. Based on what I read in the previous thread, masks will be required, and one anon had doubts about them because they somewhat fucked up last year, is there anything else I should know before buying a weekend pass?
>>
>>10775887
Hot tip: as long as you're in the hotel, they cannot force you to wear masks. They can if you try to go into their panels and dealer room, but the hotel already said no one is required to wear masks anywhere else. If youre nearby, its a comfy convention to go to. Im skipping out cause matsuri is the same weekend and is overall better with no restrictions of any kind and a much bigger venue.
>>
>>10775887
Afest before covid was great. They are a non-profit and actually use the money generated from the con to bring in guests from Japan each year.

Now it is really questionable. Last year they held it at the end of the year due to the contract they had with the hotel. They could have held it in the summer but they didn't and shot themselves in the foot with that. They do not have a vaxx mandate but they are having a mask one as well as temp checks. So not as bad as SJ but still annoying as all the other con's in the state don't have mask requirements.

I like Afest but the lack of Japanese guest makes it where it is just another con. AM is known for having a lot of problems but they are already advertising a Jpop and Kpop group. If AM can get foreign guests then the fact Afest isn't is kind of surprising. Overall I'm just going to wait a year before going back, no point in spending money on a con that is just like other ones but is farther away.
>>
>>10775893
Afest is a local con for me, and I mainly want to go because I want to go to a local con with my buddies that doesn't end up being complete, irredeemable shit like A-Kon was.

>I don't get why this is a big deal, everyone has their shots by now so its not a big issue to just show it
The target demo of conventions is the least vaccinated demo.
The senior pop is at like 85% vacc, the middle aged pop is at like 75%, but the 20-something pop in some states hasn't even hit 50%.
Also, that's having ever gotten the vaccination. But if you got any other than Novavax (which had trials in 2021 in the US, but finally got approved 10 or so days ago after a 6 month delay because OTHER vaccines caused Myocarditis so they were just skittish on approving any new one) then 6 months later your vaccine doesn't work and you need to get a booster.
The boosted population is really, REALLY low compared to the vaccinated population.
>>
>>10775887
They're "technically" a 4 day con, but they haven't had any real content on monday for a few years now.
It's really just so they can run events sunday until 9
>>
>>10775941
Fair, the site I looked at defaulted to 1 shot, which is 78%. Dunno why it defaults to 1 shot stats.

Can't believe we've been arguing about masks or no masks when Okashicon is over here making people wear color coded wristbands

If these cons want to shoot themselves in the foot and lose their prime demo because they are still buying into the lie that the vaccines do anything useful then that's their choice I guess. I'm calling it now though. Any event that is still trying to hold covid measures by 2023 is going to die. No one will put up with it at that point.

>Any event that is still trying to hold covid measures by 2023 is going to die
Fingers crossed tight. When masks were enforced everywhere, they had a somewhat reasonable excuse. Now that even doctor's offices don't care, their jig is up, and I suspect it's only a matter of time before mask/vaccine enforcement is outlawed. If I know anything abut the repulsive types who own and staff these events, they will absolutely shut down for good if it means not getting their way anymore.

>>
>>10778849
BCCC is a smaller con but it isn't bad and it is literally off of I-35. The worst thing is it is in Belton which is just a small Texas town. It is 40 minutes North of Austin, 15 minutes South of Temple, and 20 minutes East of Killeen. As I said it is right off of I-35 so if you stay in Temple you are about 15 minutes from the con.

No idea about Giganticon, this is probably a new con because I've never heard of it.

If you go to either you can hit up Naruto Ramen in Killeen. If I go to BCCC or Giga I'll probably stop on over and see how it is.

Lol, age of consent varies by location even in japan
>>
>>10779357
>>10779908
The age of consent as the legal term is used in most of the world is 18 in Japan. Parents can press charges if you have sex with their child and their child is under 18. Under 13 means the police must press charges even if the parents and child are fine with the sexual interaction.

Hey fuckface. Stop denying facts and drinking AM kool-aid.

Give me a quick rundown on afest
Is it a halfway decent con
>>
>>10780054
Depends on what you want out of a con.

Afest is not a nightlife con, don't go expecting to find a lot of people roaming around past 9pm. They tend to recycle some panels over the weekend to fill out thr 4 days which is kind of annoying. They have, hands down, the best art show and art auction in the TX con scene. They also have a fantastic artist alley, especially for a con of their size AND its all out in the open so you can go for free. They emphasize japan over other content so you don't get as many random panels. Pre pandemic they would typically bring Japanese manga artist, voice actors, directors and other industry guests.

They have had issues some year with efficiency and planning. I still remember the carnage trying to get autographs the year thr YOI creator was there.

Overall it's consistently one of my favorites. I'm not into parties and I like that things wind down early. I'm elderly by con standards.

most Texas cons have staffers browsing /cgl/
I don't think it's specifically to watch it
I just think a lot of seagulls work for cons.
>>
>>10780060
Not that anon but that's great to know, artist alleys are my favorite part of cons in my limited experience (2x akon, 2x AX). Looking forward to that, not really into parties myself either so that's no big deal.

More like Afest for not spending an assload on gas if you have to travel to Houston.

I am sorry that even with no vaccines you still ended up being autistic

I went in 2019 soon after moving to Austin & ran a panel to get a free badge. They were fairly communicative at the time & I didn't have any issues. Wondering if they're understaffed/have lots of shit backed up post Covid. Didn't they only reschedule a month or 2 ago?

>>10780060
Okay that sounds nice. I'm young but I don't like nightlife or interacting in groups.
>>
>>10780171
Anime Austin did make an announcement about their 2022 con about a month ago, but there hasn't been any other news or details from them since then. If it goes on like this for another month, I'll start to doubt they'll be able to put on a successful con.

Note: I didn't attend their 2019 con due to their poor decision of having it on the same weekend as AFest that year, but I have attended all their prior cons.
>>
>>10780179
NTAYRT but it's also a very nice chill con that is self contained in the Plaza of the America's, though last time I went in 2019 they had a mask off mandate in the plaza.

Basically, there are 2-3 hotels connected to a sunwalk of death that gets 10-20 degrees higher thatweebs like to melt in. The main hotel uses the skyway to get to a foodcourt with boba/pizza/sushi and other stuff. It's cold as fuck usually in the hotel compared to most cons, there is a 24/7 4 room watching area to just chill in on the top floor of the con itself, as well.

Only major gripe? Getting around the hotel gets super hard in the second floor when it gets busy.
>>
>>10780236
It's in the Sheraton. The Plaza of the America's is across the street and has no convention stuff in it. It's just an office building with a food court so a lot of attendees end up over there to eat.
>>
>>10780179
I want to chime in that if you find yourself up late, there are still non-party things to do. I recall in 2019 I went and joined a few 1 am games of Werewolf and most nights there were even people up on the tabtletop games floor playing DnD or such.

>>10780597
Nahhh bro I 19 i only enjoy interacting with high-school girls I don't like need shit no offense haha
>>
>>10780625
then man i dont know what to say, the only stuff at anime cons are 20-30 YO women and kids 10-14 for women, sorry bruh
>>
>>10780744
Huh? Lots of girls 15-19 every con I've been to. You can't tell age from facial fat distribution?
>>
>>10780752
Call me crazy, but I suspect that possibly kind of maybe the person you're responding to is trying to mislead you for some nefarious end.
>>
>>10780757
Uhh I don't know how he could do that I've been to like 12 cons total and at least 20% of girls were 15-19. How could he trick me when I've seen girls and talked to them.

There's a general attitude I get from this one board in particular, which is "All men are disgusting and should never talk to me or any other woman". My guess would be that by pretending it's some universal truth that all girls there are "obviously" underage (not true), you'll be dissuaded from talking to them. But you know...it's just a theory. Pic not in any way related.
>>
>>10780764
I mean I get why people would get into that mindset but it's not like I bother girls who aren't attracted to me, I'm not autistic or ugly or whatever like a lot of guys on 4chan. Like if a girl is staying close to me and looking at me and obviously wants me to talk to her I do, I don't walk up to girls who aren't interested lol.
>>
>>10780757
nah you crazy, just having a bit of a giggle, m8. can't always be totally serious on this underwater basket weaving forum
>>

Most girls want men to approach them. The problem is that most girls are also cruel and will use that attention to always have the higher ground. basically, they always have the ability to refuse any attention and not get any consequences whereas the guy who put himself out there has to suffer the rejection. It's why women are the least likely to approach guys cause rejection hurts them the most. At least for us men we can take it and not feel like our lives are over.
>>
>>10780888
Yeah, your phrasing makes it hard to tell whether you're being intentionally obtuse or are oblivious. Girls want GUYS THEY ARE ATTRACTED TO, to approach them. Girls have very obvious behaviors and signals when they find a guy particularly attractive, the vast majority of guys are completely oblivious to these. Guys just approach random girls or women they find attractive and try to tall to them, and usually can't take a hint when girls are polite to them out of fear or simply being nice but actually want them to fuck off. It would be completely reasonable for women in this board and women anywhere really to try to convince men in general not to approach anyone, because most men are just fucking dumb and it's painfully cringe. And the consequences of being approached at cons do exist, the consequences cringe. I'm a guy so things don't bother me as much but I still cringe every fucking time some 30yo slightly balding dude tries to hit on me at a con, I mean come on if I'm gonna have gay sex it's not gonna be with an ugly old dude fr lol.

BTW I've never been rejected, all it takes is being moderately attractive and only approaching girls who obviously find you attractive. If you ever get rejected you're a sex pest and a nuisance, all girls hate you and want you to die lol.

>Girls want GUYS THEY ARE ATTRACTED TO, to approach them. Girls have very obvious behaviors and signals when they find a guy particularly attractive, the vast majority of guys are completely oblivious to these.

Girls being attracted to a guy doesn't mean a guy she isn't attracted to him shouldn't approach. Girls never know who or what they want, and it's always up to the man to create attraction in her. Even the guys she thinks she's attracted to can turn her when he opens his mouth and say something stupid.

How else will guys develop their girl attraction skills? Failing is part of learning, and if you discourage men from talking and approaching women, you're saying you want a larger incel population of awkward unskilled men.

>And the consequences of being approached at cons do exist, the consequences cringe.

Cringe is a small price to pay,

> I'm a guy so things don't bother me as much but I still cringe every fucking time some 30yo slightly balding dude tries to hit on me at a con, I mean come on if I'm gonna have gay sex it's not gonna be with an ugly old dude fr lol.

No one cares about fags. We're talking normal hetereosexual relations here.
