It's that time of year, Anime Boston is right around the corner, time to accelerate the cosplays! What are you planning on dressing up as?Are you excited for anything?
Finally an AB thread. Happy they rolled o lver last couple years tickets. Curious to see what kind of restrictions they pull. I grabbed a room pretty early at the con itself. Ill be cosplaying a daemon prince of slannesh and maybe nightwing for after parties.
Actually seething that I somehow thought this was cancelled again this year and didn't buy tickets until today. Hotels are all gone or $500-$600 a night, so I'm debating even going.
>>10755276They have their policies up on the site
>>10755560Yea but drop of the hat change is the covid way. This will be my first obnoxiously large cosplay so I hope it's a little less crowded anyway.
haven't been to aboston in a couple years now, excited to return since I've got just about nothing else planned until otakon. rooms were a total fucking nightmare to get and everything not in the block is expensive as fuck (too expensive), and the hotel I got is downtown. wack.
I'm interested. Not going this year but I'm moving to Boston later this year.
Maybe, I live right down the street but have no weeb friends to go with
FINALLY, IT'S HEREI hope I can get my cosplay done in five weeks... Oh god help me.
I hate anime and I hate Boston.
>>10756053You had 2 years, get on it.Any locals know of good hot pot close by? Will be bringing ample amounts of booze. Last time drinks were insanely over priced. Hope they apart announcing more guests soon.
>>10756061>You had 2 years, get on it.Yeah... heheh. We'll see. Whatever happens happens.>Any locals know of good hot pot close by?Liuyishou, Hot Pot Buffet, Kaze Shabu Shabu and Happy Lamb Hot Pot; all in Chinatown. It's quite a walk from the Hynes/Pru area, I suggest taking an Uber or riding the T on the Green Line to Park Street via D Line. They're all within a 5-10 minute walk from Park Street Station. Hope that helps!
Very excited to come back to AB. Kind of curious how they'll manage the concerts this year?
>>10755301hotels are up on their portal right now anon
This is the first time ever I have my main cosplay done well before the con. Might throw something together that's a little better for after parties, ect. Like a cyberpunk 2077 one or somthing. Still haven't heard alot of what others are doing. What are people working on?
>>10757829Doing a Blend S group and maybe some FE3H if more 3hopes designs come out
>>10754457fuck ya, right on the weekend after my birthdayreally bummed about having to get a jab to enter though.
>>10758786Is there even still time to get the booster and still be admitted? I thought you needed to have the last shot at least a couple weeks beforehand, because it takes a while to kick in or something. I guess we’re still three weeks out, so it’s close, but there’s time.A buddy I was gonna go with dropped out on me yesterday because he just found out he needed the booster (he understandably thought being vaccinated the first time was enough), and he can’t take any time off work in the next couple weeks to deal with the side effects. I guess people who are completely unvaxxed and are looking into getting in this late are just fucked. I wonder if a bunch of unvaccinated people are gonna show up anyway and get turned away.
>>10758862>he just found out he needed the boosterDo you have a source on that? The Anime Boston website doesn't mention a booster, it just says that you need to be what the CDC considers "fully vaccinated." The CDC's website doesn't have a definition for that anymore as far as I can tell, but the Massachusetts Department of Health says that "Fully vaccinated" doesn't include the booster:https://www.mass.gov/info-details/covid-19-booster-frequently-asked-questions
>>10758862I asked them and they said you dont need the boost
>>10758862You'd have to be a fucking retard if you got vaxxed so you can go to AB. That's it? After all this pressure over time, that's what convinced you? BAKA. The con staff need to get over themselves, they aren't everyone's doctor and it's ridiculous to have this requirement given the state of the world regarding covid. I figure they're either completely neurotic freaks or being absolutely forced to by the venue (apparently this is not the case, as per their own two more recently updated policies: https://www.massconvention.com/community/community-novel-covid-19 ). So what gives? Our group canceled our plans to go over this.
>>10758864>>10758903I thought I’d heard it somewhere like a month ago, I think from something I read on the CDC website, but it turns out I was wrong. My friend double checked by emailing the staff, and you guys are right, they say you don’t need the booster.
Isn't three weeks enough time to get both shots?
By this time haven't people figured out you can fake the cards so fucking easily? Do you honestly thing they will be sitting there, scrutinizing every single vax card? You get a lanyard for your badge, slide the paper in. After the first 100 or so people, door guys not going to give a fuck. Whats he going to do, call your doctor and say "hey is this legit?". Your going to get waved through like everyone elde with a fake con badge the last 20 years.
>>10759320I mean, you're not wrong, but at the same time you look silly since you clearly didn't read the policy all the way through. The vax card only needs to be presented upon badge pickup. Once they look at it, they'll put some sort of sticker on your badge. Although you're only spending 2-4 minutes once you reach staff after waiting in line, they're still going to be able to scrutinize it more. My personal feeling is also that there will be plenty of staff members who are super anal about believing in the vax will be trying to be hardos about scrutinizing the cards. Doesn't mean some fake ones won't slip by, because I'm sure some will, but yeah.
>>10759406Meanwhile, everyone goes around indoor restaurants/public transportation/etc within and around the Prudential Center where there is no vaccine mandate and nobody cares when they re-enter the convention center without quarantining for 2 (more) weeks. The policy makes no sense. So if there are AB staff ITT, I'd say would-be convention goers deserve an explanation beyond something like "wE'Re sAvInG LiVeS". You very clearly aren't. You're just fucking with people because you can.
>>10759410>You very clearly aren't. You're just fucking with people because you can. This is literally every convention owner outside of Florida, ColossalCon's or Anime Matsuri's. We have now reached the point where there are millions passing through airports and planes every single day, either with no mask or surrounded by someone who isn't bothering. The jig is up and they have no excuse anymore. They barely did to begin with
For anyone who has been to AB before, what is the policies regarding autographs? Is it a paid amount per autograph?
>>10759410nayrt ok sure you're right, nothing in boston checks for vaxx cards upon entry so this is just performative bullshit, especially since you can go in without a mask on public transit, etc. what next?
>>10759834>nothing in boston checks for vaxx cards upon entryNot even restaurants? Haven't been to boston in months but I thought they used to require that
>>10759818No pay just wait in line. Like other cons they never have a solid policy and signing can change rules at anytime so if you bring something to sign you might find out they are only allowed to sign your guidebook or a postcard give out
>>10759932As far as I know restaurants never required that. Every restaurant here is just happy to get business in general so I don't see it ever happening.
>>10754457Part of me is glad my homecon is back, and i used to be favorable to management because they made changes for the better over the years, but the lack of hotels due to memorial day weekend (and boston in general) make this one to skip. Not to mention their strict adherence to a covid policy that feels scummy and out of touch-3 years since the last con and they are willing to turn customers away...
>>10759818lmao, don't listen to that guy anon, just read their policy. it's a bit shit early in the morning but they tell you how and what can be signed
>>10760988nta but no, their policy is guest dependent. some guests, like musicians require official merch for signings.
>>10761005...yea? if you read their policy, all of them require official merch or the program book for their free signings as a guarantee.
Productive cosplay crafting night in anticipation. Anyone else staying at Sheraton? Finally got a room at the con itself.
does anyone know when they'll be posting the schedules?
>>10761523I think within a week or so. Not sure
>>10761523I’m pretty sure it’s usually posted just a couple days beforehand (and then sometimes continues to get minor alterations all through the con). It always feels like it’s coming out really late, but it’s always like that.
>>10761384Damn, how? Did one just happen to open up? I already have my accommodations set but I know it's been a bitch to find a room.
>>10761720Yea I ended up calling up and they got me in. I think alot of people got it early a bowed out.
>>10761012> require official merchOof, I was hoping to get a print drawn by a friend signed. Appreciate the heads up!
>>10761012So is nonofficial merch able to be signed for a fee?
>>10761817No, they'd be rejected and turned away.I've worked autograph lines and it's crazy that people don't listen at all. We'd be announcing "NO FAN ART, no non-related items, no unofficial merchandise will be SIGNED" every 5 minutes and there would still be idiots who pull out their fan art purchase at the front of the line and then get offended and panicked when told they can't proceed. "B-But I just bought it from the artist alley!" is not a valid excuse.
>>10761824Would people be able to give fanart to a guest then? Not to sign, but as a gift from an artist, etc. I know food gifts are prohibited
>>10761890My 2 cents in all of this all depends on the guest. It's usually the guests agent that's calling the shots and telling people no to shit. But I've had a few instances (actual at anime boston) where the agent would out down a sign with the cost and he just hit it off the table and did it for free. Also a time were it was a small room and he just told everyone to come in and talked for a while, his agent seething.
>>10761890Depends on the guest or the agency. In my experience, American guests tend to be open to anything goes, while Japanese guests are tightly controlled by their agencies, so their staff members would stop unacceptable items before they even make it out. Sometimes though the guest might see it and gesture it's okay and they make one-time exceptions, but I wouldn't count on it.
>karaoke requires masks on at all timesholy fuck how can you possibly defend this shit
If you're supporting this con despite their bullshit covid policies, you deserve to get anally (and financially) raped by the ghosts of cons past. MC of ANY series would never approve.
>>10760004I think it started on 15 January and was recalled as soon as March
Imagine crying this much over a mask policy for a con that you're not even going to.
>>10762403Have fun wearing a covid mask under your cosplay mask for 12 hours while everyone else in the entire city is free to breathe sweet air
>>10762167Yeah, I could make a fake card like anyone else but they need to see some serious losses for this BS or they'll never stop. Why the fuck should people have to get an experimental drug with real potential side effects to go to a con? They better start making sure people have their flu shots too since omg you could get sick if you're hanging out with tons of people. What ever happened to assumed risk? First time I've ever missed AB, but they'll have to have their vaccine circle jerk without me.
Honestly other then a few autographs, people are going to be hanging out in groups, chilling outside the con in the mall, going to after parties, bar hopping, having a good time while simultaneouslynot having masks on. The tickets were free from being rolled over the last two years. I'm stocking up the booze and food for room parties anyway with our own karaoke machine. So people can cry if they want, but ill still make lemonade and I've lost nothing. The absolute worst case scenario is some extreme try hard volunteer staffer will ask you to cover your face, leave, and you remove the mask 10 seconds later.Although there no planned rave or cosplay bar crawls are there?
>>10762548the official rave has been gone for years and the unofficial rave stopped as well.
>>10762403The mask policy is one thing, but the only people who would really care are people afraid of getting yelled at. It's a totally pointless measure that fucks with the execution of many cosplays, but as >>10762548 mentioned people largely won't respect it anyway. It will enable the staff to be busybodies on a whim and to their hearts' content. You don't even need one on a damn airplane in this country! I guess the staff believes that they know better? But either way the mandatory vaccine policy is, at this point in time, even further beyond the scope of what's acceptable both nationwide and locally for such an event - especially considering recent developments about the BA2 variant being even more mild than the BA1. Leave it to modern Massachusetts residents to take pride in leading the way in remaining selectively ignorant to reality in favor of idealism and not batting an eye toward excessive authoritarian policies from recreational event organizers of all places (except at places like Fenway park, "As of March 5, 2022 there are no vaccine or mask mandates in effect at JetBlue Park or Fenway Park.") Why is an anime convention trying to lead us all backwards on this?So you're fine to go to a sports venue, where people funnel through the interior of the stadium drinking and hindering their immune system. You're even fine to, during the con, go to every other establishment in the area where the unquestionably blighted unvaccinated lurk. But if you want to attend Anime Boston, then don't forget to share your medical paperwork at the door.On a side note, what does their silence on why the policy is set in stone mean? That shouldn't be hard for them to answer. So far they refuse to comment further than saying it won't be changing. I wonder what their problem is and why they can't respect people's private medical decisions when it's clear that your covid vaccination status makes no difference toward other people's safety, just your own (for better or worse).
>>10762403It's not about the policy on masks, it's about the consistency. They didn't even have a comprehensive plan for the cosplay competitions and masquerade to take into account the mandate until they were pressed about it. Nobody was on page, nobody had an understanding of the general mandate. They all finally got together and decided that the ONE exception to the mandate is when you are ALONE on stage performing, without others around you. The Lip Sync battle does not require masks on during performances. The masquerade in some circumstances (highlighted above) does not require masks on during performances, as well as the idol showcase as far as I'm concerned. However for some UNGODLY reason the KARAOKE CONTEST requires masks on at all times. It just reads like staff doesn't fucking communicate and it's frustrating. This isn't even taking into account the retardation that >>10762575 mentioned. Masks aren't required at the Prudential Center or either of the hotels connected to the convention space. There's no mandate in the city of Boston, there hasn't been FOR MONTHS. All this COVID policy is is showboating and damage control for the inevitable COVID breakout that'll happen at the con. They KNOW people are going to get COVID, the only thing they care about is covering their own asses by saying "oh, we had a STRICT mask mandate and vaccination policy!" once some hamplanet inevitably croaks a la PAX.
>>10762642Some fatty bit it at pax?
>>10762655Yes, someone who clearly had odds against her managed to catch COVID because of PAX and didn't win the bet. Obese, living alone, unknown employment, didn't seek professional medical help. She only started "cooking" for herself with an Instant Pot a few years ago.
I spent a small fortune on a suite at the Colonnade, I hope we can all party together on Saturday night. Even those who aren't buying a con pass should come hang out with their fellow anons, we can chimp around the venues outside the convention center.
>>10762683This anons got the right idea. I'm bringing the party and people are invited, shitty vax rules or not. I got a suit at the Sheraton.
>>10762673so nothing to worry about if youre smart and not a fatty
>>10762673Remember these are the people who tell you that you need to have the 3 shots, always wear the mask and calls anyone who objects a conspiracy theorist, yet preaches about all size bodies are beautiful
>i dont see the formal ballFuck this gay ass earth
>>10759320>>10759406>>10759410>>10759412>Fake cardsImagine spending money and effort to fake a vaccine card instead of just getting it for free.Hoping the policy filters you fags and the rest of the political nuts from shitting up the con.
Has anyone here ever done the 'speed friending' panel? I have to imagine it's mostly dudes that show up.
>>10762976>>Bootlicker thinks you need to spend money to get a fake cardI'm going, stay home and never leave
>>10762996i'll be your friend anon
what panels are everyone most excited for?
>>10763051Not excited for panels but excited for the vibe and seeing fellow dweebs again. Where we meeting this time?
>>10763051Suzie yeunge is actually an old friend so that's the only thing g I'm looking g forward to. Otherwise, it's sneaking plastic flasks in and what >>10763057 said.
>>10754457holy shit did not expect to immediately see an AB thread. i never come to this board but I'm cosplaying for the first time here. however I just read the covid rules and now one I realize of my buddies who I was cosplaying KnY with can't come he's not vaccinated due to a heart condition :(
>hosting panel for the first time>9am on fridaypresenting hungover is going to be fun
>>10762968I hope they do some kind of dance next year. The substitutions for the dances like the “jam” sessions and the “slumber party” don’t seem very appealing. I know we can’t have a rave because this city can’t have nice things, but the formal and semi formal dances were at least still dances.
>>10762996I don’t remember them ever doing that before. This might be the first year. I hope I see you guys there.
>>10763022>Implying you just don't just want to spread your bioweapon everywhere.
>>10762976If you get the vax and have a mask on like the good little boy you are, your totally good right? Right? You've been doing it for 2 years so you MUST be good. So while the rest of us are enjoying hanging out, you can stay in your pope mobile 40 feet from the con and get mad.
>>10763098Masks just make you look better.Don't you want to look good?
>>10763174To be fair, I do enjoy that I don't have to put on makeup for the lower half of my face. I can't smile on cue so I look way better in photos with a mask on as well.
Decided to go last minute when Fauna announced. It's gonna be my first con.Fuckin hotels Jesus Christ though, had to be the same weekend as Boston Calling huh. Glad I don't live too far.Any tips here? What's the vibe like?
no booster required right?
When’s the Lolita meet?
>>10763704No booster needed.
>>10763051I don't remember having ever seen J Novel Club have a panel at AB so probably that, otherwise it seems kinda light on the events this year. Even the musical guests seem underwhelming, and I usually have fun with those. I'm still sifting through the schedule, though.
i hope there’s an idol booth with puraore merch
>>10763497Going for Kronii, what is Anime Boston like?More corporate by the book, or more free wheeling?
>>10763824They look just like Chika and Yoshiko from Love Live
When will the artist alley list come out?
>>10763824God another Pride of Orange fan.I really wanted this series to succeed, I really did. I did find the whole dancing on ice thing hilarious, because it bothered my Canadian husband to no end, but sadly the anime made absolutely no waves. Wish you best of luck, anon!
>>10764575>it bothered my Canadian husband to no endaw really? i’ve played hockey my whole life and i loved the show. but yeah sadly i’m not holding my breath for a season 2. gf told me the idol booth usually has a lot of obscure series’ merch so i’m crossing my fingers!
do they search bags before you go in?
>>10764591I think he took it a little too seriously, pointing out that one cannot dance like that with boots on ice, and that the girls should already be exhausted and sweaty from the match. When I jokingly suggested that his favorite team should also do a victory dance on home ice whenever they win to drum up the ratings, he went into deep explanation mode about why the players (male) would be ridiculed and booed off the ice.
>>10764601Yes, and a metal detector
>>10764601So they'll catch if I try to bring nips in?
>>10764625If we get our nips in I'll let you have one.
>>10764624They’re looking for weapons more than booze, but yes. If you rip off the label of move it to an unmarked bottle they probably won’t open it to sniff, though. Or you can just drink in your hotel room or in one of the many bars just outside of the con.
>>10764601>>10764622First time going to this con. Walk through or wand?
First time going to AB despite moving to the area in 2019. Don’t have time for a full cosplay but I hope I can get something next year
>>10764622>>10764624>>10764625>>10764639I did a big brain move this year and got a plastic flask I can hide in my cosplay.
>>10764667Walk through. It could always change, though, so don’t hold me to it.
>>10764766Make sure your nips have plastic caps and not metal then
>>10764624put it in a water bottle
>>10764667Walk through, although they will wand you if you can't get an accurate reading, think airport TSA
The late night festivities worth the 1k+ for a hotel downtown?
>>10765023there were always some fun 18+ panels after midnight but a crazy partycon this is not.
>>10765046Is it even possible to get into a room party if you're going there and don't know anyone?
>>10765048Yes, but bring alcohol and don't be an annoying fuckwit and you'll be fine
>>10765098That's easy enough. But those are still pretty tame I take it?I was looking online did something happens years ago that lead to them cracking down on the partying?
>>10765046Are there any crazy party cons in the northeast?
>>10765101Depends on the hotel, most of the connecting hotels to the con center are pretty lax with late night parties as long as there aren't any complaints. Some of the outermost hotels however are a bit more prickly about it
How does the AB artist alley compare to Otakon and AnimeNYC? (Those are the only ones I've been to)
Anyone need room space? I have two spots open at the Sheraton. Hotels are scalping prices lately it seems. It would be 350 for the whole weekend per person. Thursday till Sunday
>>10765101Overdose killed the rave. We usually at least get a formal dance, though. I think they nixed all the dances this year because of covid.
>>10762683nice anon, also trying to get some peeps and groups together for saturday night shenanigans. Maybe we can all meet up at some point? Are you on the Lainchan group chat for AB?
>>10764622>>10764624>>10764667so lets say i was trying to sneak in a DUDE pen...
>>10765447Weeds legal in MA. As long as you don't use it inside they probs don't care.
>>10765368How's the formal? What's that normally like?
>>10765443Should I post the link?
I haven't decided to go or not, after the past two years I feel like my youth slipped away too much to do any more cons. What about all you anons?
>>10765479>after the past two years I feel like my youth slipped away too much to do any more consI sort of know this feel, though I'm 33 so my youth *literally* slipped away as well. I went to PAX with my friends last month and even though it was heavily scaled-down I was surprised by how much it turns out I missed the crowds, the noise, the costumes, all that con shit. Being around people who are celebrating what they're into always gets me more excited about my own hobbies. I think you should go if you live nearby, I'm probably going for a day even though I have no weeb friends to go with. Worst case scenario is that I get bored after a couple of hours and walk home.
>>10765494I'd like to give it a shot again. I went as Doppio from around 2016-2019 and had a good time in the Jojo circles, maybe I'll rep my boy Kai for the Gundam fans.I wonder how many people I met at AB are posting here now.
>>10765479If you get too worried about age then you'll never live the moment, we all age, anon. Can't let it Keep you down, in a year I'll be 30 but I'm still going to go to cons and cosplay, there is no age limit on things that you enjoy
>>10765479Go. Just do it. I'm 33 now and cons have only gotten better because I focus less on drama, afford better material for cosplay, can enjoy the bars more, and much more confident talking to strangers and having room parties. Couldn't give a shit about the stupid policies of this con because 90% of the good time is spent around it rather then in it for me.>>10765443Not him,, but i'd love to meet up with anons again. I'll keep up with the thread here and see if people want to hang. Bringing far more booze then needed as usual.
>>10765479they don't deserve money/attendance with their covid policies. they deserve boycotts and cosplay protests outside the convention (which would probably get local news stations to cover them).
>>10765479I’m 33 and I don’t get this at all. I’m itching to party after being cooped up too long. I know I’ll hit the wall faster than ever before, but I don’t care.
>>10765567The way Boston works, this wouldn’t get us better anime cons in the future. It would just mean no more anime cons in the area. If that’s what you want, then whatever.
>>10765479Just turned 30 this will be my first con. Idk what to tell ya man. Just do it.
>>10765567Sounds like a big waste of time
Does anyone know why they moved to Memorial Day weekend? It made everything so expensive that I've been priced out.
>>10765601I assume COVID.Next year it looks like it back to March
>>10765607No, it was scheduled to be this weekend years in advance. They do Easter nearly every year, but once every couple years they change it up.
>>10765645It's an anniversary this year right? Maybe that's why they did it holiday weekend? Kinda fucks shit up.
>>10765650is Easter not a holiday weekend now? lol They post the dates years in advance. It just lined up this way
>have to finish a bunch of shit unexpectedly because people didnt meet deadlines i specifically gave them with months leeway and everything that could go wrong went wrongWHY BOTHER SCHEDULING? OBVIOUSLY CON CRUNCH IS INEVITABLE. FUUUUCK
>>10765460Yes please! Let's get a giant meetup going>>10765541Awesome! I plan on doing the same lol LET'S MAKE THIS A WEEKEND TO REMEMBER (at least Saturday night lol)
>>10765517This. In my 30s now, nothing stops me from attending cons, meeting new people and making new friends. I def don't party or drink as much as I used to but these events are always a blast. I get sad when they end lol
>>10765567you're letting petty stuff prevent you from having a good time. You're really willing to sacrifice a fun con and meet new people and party just because of having to wear a mask or show you're vaccinated? kinda silly bro
>finally get the stupid jab so i can go to this con>second dose is scheduled for tomorrow>just get email from con saying it doesn't count unless you got it by the 12thBULLSHIT
>>10765198I'll bite, contact information?
>>10762686>>10762683So how does one get into these parties?
>>10765880maybe they won’t look that closely at the card
>Waiting this long to get the 2nd vaccine shot>Not knowing that your body needs time to process the vaccine, like any other vaccine.>reddit frog imageYou deserve it.
>>10765880This has always been the case since they announced the covid policies months ago.Do you fuckers just not read shit?
>>10765880lmao. what was stopping you from getting it in the first place then? whatever it was, it must not have been very important in your mind.>>10765587except that Boston has nothing to do with the vaccine/mask requirement toward this event. but you're afraid to protest in Boston of all places? not caring to is one thing. but do you not realize the historical background of the state of Massachusetts? have you never actually read the first amendment? i'm guessing that at the same time, you had no problem with people tearing up newbury street (right next to the hynes) during the rioting in the not-too-distant past over rights that they already had. that kind of mindset truly is the type that results in the forfeiture of power out of cowardice and it disgusts me.>>10765828it's either be deceitful (no), be a sellout with your medical choices for an anime convention (no), or party outside the event the entire time (maybe). while the latter doesn't sound like the worst way to spend a long weekend -depending on your company - you're accepting getting cucked out of your local community anime con by control freaks (see pic rel, the convention chair) that do not respect your ability to decide aspects of your own healthcare for yourself. they're the type that would jump at the chance to help the government enforce lockdowns that exist as austerity measures (rather than anything related to public health) for a pat on the head by other paranoid circle jerkers.>>10765594you'd probably have some time to spare while you're kept out orbiting the place if you go but can't get in.always loved supporting+going to this convention, too. it's a total shame on their part, but all things considered regarding the people in charge of it i'm not very surprised that they would insist on these policies.
>>10765895Don't be a creep, and generally as the night gose on I get drunk and start inviting people.
>>10766025What's this schizzo going on about?
>>10766050Iunno, I filtered them.
Boston anons, what do you recommend doing in town if I'm visiting for the first time?
>>10766065There’s an aquarium if you have time and want to spend a whole lot of money on one thing. Also a bunch of museums.
>>10759320What if they call our your fake, won't they blacklist you or something?
>>10766050tl;dr fuck your vaccine mandate (and fuck you, nothing in that was schizo)>>10766054oh yeah? well take that, i hid yours
>>10766065Sox are in town playing Baltimore all weekend. Wanna say a double header one of the days. It's pretty close to the convention. I think the china Town is pretty good for the east coast. It's near the theatre district too so you could catch some music or a show. There's all the historical stuff which is cool if your into that.
>>10766065Fenway's nice to walk around since the flowers have all bloomed. Back Bay along the river north of the convention center is beautiful and has acceptable restaurants; Newbury street is all businesses if you like to shop.Avoid the commons though, it's grungy out there.
>>10766100I like the common. It’s a great place for watching the rats after dark.
okay what's the policy on cap guns? is it okay to bring one in if it's got the orange tip and i've taken out the revolver bit for the caps? the faq doesn't say no specifically, but i don't want to take one in just to have them sit on it all day.
Any good asain food near the venue?
>>10766128You could try santouka, but it's always crowded af, even without the weeb surge. Boston doesn't have much asian food, could try chinatown, but that's not super close.
>keith silverstein got covidhere we go boys
>>10766128It's not exactly close, but if you go straight down Mass Ave into Cambridge you will find an H-Mart with a GoGoCurry. Closer by, there's a Japanese place near Berklee (and very good thai food at Pad Thai Cafe). Also worth noting, down Hemenway St there's a Vivi Tea (which also serves some food along with bubbletea) and a Kung Fu Tea a bit further down. There are also a couple of asian restaurants around there, but I haven't been to them. Other than that, you're left with what's down Newbury St and Wagamama inside the mall (if you consider that asian enough)
>>10766128If you want to go all the way into Allston there's a korean barbeque place that's on Packards corner called Fiya Chicken
There's several different convos about meetups and parties. Did we want to consolidate everyone into one gathering even at some point or do we not want things to get that big or out of hand? And is this the main chat everyone's using to meetup at this thing? At least for Saturday as that seems to be the one day most of us are going.Fwiw I'll happily contribute booze or weed to a party
>>10766157someone link the east coast discord
>>10766128I can't think of anything near Copley but if you get yourself on the Red Line you'll have some good shit to check out:Amataras near South Station is an excellent ramen place but they aren't open on weekends, so this is just an option if you're coming into town on Thursday. Santouka Ramen near Harvard is pretty good and has a big selection, but will probably be crowded as fuck. If you go out to Porter you'll get the really good shit: Cafe Mami has great curry and donburi, Yume ga Arukara has godlike udon but you will wait in line for a long time, and Ittoku has a little bit of everything including okonomiyaki. It's the only place I've found nearby that that even serves okonomiyaki and it's pretty good. Check hours because because the places in Porter close kind of early.
>>10766128Like the other anons are saying, Santouka is the big place to go but the one on Newbury is crowded as fuck no matter when you go, better to take the Red Line into Cambridge for their bigger location. There are some fancy places along Newbury, but I don't remember their names...always pass by them but never go in. They're probably pricy, for one, and it's mostly "asian-fusion" type places and mostly noodles at that. Yamato II was a decent sushi buffet if it's still open, but it is a buffet, so be careful with what you get. There's another fancier sushi place, can't recall the name of it, but it's a short walk from the Pru and it's great; might be too fancy for cosplay and cons though. Avoid Wagamama like the plague, unless you want the plague (food poisoning and office worker stares).Chinatown is full of bubble tea shops, if you're looking for one of those; I have friends that swear by Tea-Do, but I haven't been there since the coof started so who knows if they're still open. Other than that, you pretty much have your pick of brands if you can get on the T out there. Don't try to walk, especially in cosplay; it's always farther than it really seems, and with the Kung Fu Tea down by Symphony Hall, it's not worth it.Good luck anon, and godspeed. As for me, I'll be raiding the nearby Shaw's.
>>10766176>>10766199Go the other way, take a walk from corner of Mass ave and Boylston before Symphony theres Ramen and Korean at least that is the closest you'll get in Back Bay
>>10766157Are people just going to be using this thread to coordinate meet ups?

>>10766264if you aren't working on cosplay the morning of, are you really trying?
>>10766264still need to style one (1) wig and figure out my schedule. none of the meetups i was looking forward to are being held so my schedule is all over the place >>10766025it's fucking boston, what did you expect? like straight up? take your meds
>>10766264Been good for a year now. First time in my life this has ever happend. It just gives me anxiety that I haven't tested it enough. Also the first time I'm going full blackout contacts since Lasik a few years ago. No idea how they will work out for long periods.
>>10766148Vivi Tea is solid
>>10766065The Arnold Arboretum is pretty and at this time of year, might even still have some of the spring blossoms. For food, Allston is pretty much like a mini-China/K-town; hop on the B line all the way to Harvard Ave, and there are nearly dozens of restaurants, bubble tea shops, and bakeries to check out. It would also be far enough away from the Hynes if you want to grab food away from the crowds (given you have a nice chunk of time for your mea; - transit does take a bit.) If you like ramen, I think Totto is still open; they specialize in thick, hearty broth that's really delicious if you're looking for something to stick to your ribs.
>>10766294>it's fucking boston, what did you expect? like straight up? take your medsthat's a terrible excuse. the city isn't mandating or enforcing anything. even if it's something i'd expect by the local control freaks, i'll happily call out the terrified/authoritarian AB staff on fucking up the event for people over their bullshit. i didn't say anything about a conspiracy theory or anything remotely like that so idk what your scatterbrain is on about meds/schizo shit. how about if you don't like it, you reply with something of substance instead of just bitching inanely when someone speaks their mind? like straight up, yo?>>10766325hadn't heard of totto before, but for that kind of distance there are also many places to go in Brookline near Beacon St. i'd suggest FuGaKyu for the $$$$ side of things but I've only been to the one in Sudbury
>>10766264just finished up last night :) but i remembered i still need to make the uzui tengen headband for my buddy doing kny with me saturday
>>10766389Ok real talk can we drop the vaccine talk? We can complain and debate about it all day but the face of that matter is yes you need a mask and a vaccine card to get it. I am driving to anime boston for my first con and going alone. Im not even cosplaying just kinda want to check it out. Are there any good ways to meet people without any connections?
am I gonna end up wasting my time by going alone?
>>10766606only going for saturday as well if it matters. Just as a question, I was wondering when people usually check in? Do I need to be there at some ungodly time in the morning in advance?
>>10766606>>10766607Plenty of people to hang out with if your a decent human. Invites go out easy. As for Saturday check in, good luck. Gere today and it's insane and that's just prereg. Get there early.
I don't think I'll end up going to the con anons, maybe I'll be in the area though to feel like I'm a part of something again.
>>10766614> Plenty of people to hang out withAny advice for meeting people or just sort of go to the stuff I'm interested in and try to make conversation?> As for Saturday check in, good luckyeah for people who got tickets in advance it says check in starts at 8, but Would you recommend getting there like thirty minutes before? not sure if the checking area will even be open to the public then
What's everyone got played for this year's cosplays? Old stuff new stuff, obscure characters, popular characters? Will you bundle up under your Elden Ring armor set or let it all hang out like every Tatsumaki cosplayer ever? Will you be looking for the people you saw back in 2019? Will you be meeting up with anons or friends?
>>10766620Day cosplay: slannesh daemon princeEvening cosplay: cyber punk 2077 character
Does the convention center have a coat check? I don't want to have to go back to the hotel for luggage on Sunday
>>10766657Yeah usually there's a space right where reg began for the other days.
>>10759207I have some insight to the inner workings of the con as I've been involved with AB for a while but I wont say more then as I don't want to out myself. Neurotic is a bit of an understatement with a lot of the people at the top. The issue is like a lot people the last few years they have gotten hyper political to the point that I've overheard them fantasizing about executing everyone who doesn't share their political ideology. It's a shame as prior to 2016 they were all really happy and rational people but I guess we can't have nice things. Luckily due to people not refunding their tickets from 2020 our finances have a bit of a buffer but this year is going to be rough. We are really understaffed due to the covid policy and how this has been handled has sown a lot of ill will with the attendees. I doubt this will kill AB but it is going to hurt it. Anyway thank you for reading my blog I just wanted to get this off my chest as I don't dare bring it up with anyone at the con and this is probably my last year because it's getting too political for something that should just be a fun yearly getaway.
>>10766620i will be he tomorrow

Gonna have some coffee and edge for an hour or so before I leave the house, see you anons
did everyone itt just forget you can walk to back bay station inside the prudential and take orange line straight to chinatown?
>>10766699I already have a room, but it's over a mile away. But maybe we can work something at least for tonight.
>>10766614>Plenty of people to hang out with if your a decent humanWelp, we're screwed then.
Looks like this con is proving you can go full mask and vax and still be successful.
Is it a good con this year anons? I didn't end up going but I'm seeing some friend there tomorrow.
Enjoying it so far. This armor sucks while drunk.
>>10766908Great work! I've never done anything elaborate like that, what's the cost of materials like?

>>10766988>>10766999I mean, I can take some initiative here but I don't know what everyone would want to do. Wanna just say we meet in front of Barnes and Noble at 7 and whatever happens happens?
>>10767006I would think meetups tend to involve alcohol, if anyone's partying at night lemme know cuz there's a few going on
>>10767006PM or AM?
>>10767013There didn't seem to be any great bars near the venue. There was one decent one I went to but I think it was beer and wine only.
So the short version is that no one has committed to anything, and something may or may not happen at some point… Perfect!
Aw, Boston. You’ve heard of the city that never sleeps. Now get ready for the city that is tucked into bed promptly at 1am like a little old lady.
For all its flaws I like Boston at night. It's completely empty so no-one bothers you.
Anyone else in the Marriott? Alarm going off and they're announcing "trained personnel responding to emergency, stay on your floor"
>>107670067pm outside B&N sounds good to me. Already have a group of anons gathered, we'll meet there.
>>10767060Sounds like someone pulled the fire alarm. Fire department here now.
>>10767048>>10767049ATVL most of the beggars that litter the streets hit the hay at the same time. Of course people are still going to pay $50 for an Uber to drive them less than 5 miles from the venue.
fucking masks i cant tell whos 12/a man
>>10767063Cool, I'm going to wait outside B&N for a little bit at seven, come by if you want. >>10767399Anon, how did you not immediately tell that's a boy
>>10767400I could say that my trap radar is offline from years of nocons but the truth is probably more gay than that
>>10766697If you say so. I'd tell that to the people saying the mask policy was important in order to keep fascists away during our meetings. Like it or not the people at the top of AB are hyper political virtual signalers.
Did they announce next years theme?
>>10767476Well it worked. Fuck fascists those guys suck. But basically every business, organization, and entertainer supported BLM in 2020. It's not suprising they did too. Unfortunately most of these people are just shitty libs and do not properly understand the black struggle, as they lack the ability to view it with the lense of dialectical materialism and using the immortal science of Marxism-Leninism.
>>10767476They're a business, of course anyone who's not retarded or overtly racist will give lip service to BLM.Now if they said MAGA, that would be full retard and just show they're fascists.
>>10767635I appreciate the artistry of your posting anon.More importantly did everyone have a good time? See cosplays you liked?
>>10767668I had fun. It was my first time so I wasn't sure what to expect.

cosplay chess was awesome
>>10767818hello i am a tourist. what is cosplay chess please and also please explain what a coord is
Fuck off redditor
>>10767854cosplay chess is a stage play and is similar to the wizard chess in harry potter, but with people in their cosplay as pieces. coord i assume means an outfit.
>>10767854coord is short for coordinate, meaning outfit, and is used by lolitas and other j-fashion people. (you wouldn't call a cosplay a coord, for example)
So who pulled the fire alarm at the marriot?
>>10768057>>10767985Thank you. Cosplay chess sounds hilarious
this was my first convention, I did not cosplay but it was still very fun
I thought this year was decent. Decent cosplays. Though I think there could have been more panels, and higher quality ones too. I also heard people were complaining about the vendor selection, I doubt the AB Staff have much control over that, vendors either do or don't want to be there
>>10767635>>10767650>>10767668at first i thought these posts were satirical/trolling but i think you cretins might be serious. are you kidding me? are you people so retarded that you think there was a fascist movement gaining steam at anime boston before? it's incredibly ironic that you would think that while the administration of the con was taking pages from the brownshirts' book, forcing people out of the event over what boils down to politics. your pandering to the "black struggle" is a very strong example of your own racism and perceived racial superiority.>They're a business, of course anyone who's not retarded or overtly racist will give lip service to BLM.what business failed because they didn't give lip service to BLM? fuck BLM, they are an opportunist political group that manipulates people by tugging on their heart strings. you want to talk about lip service? that's all BLM has achieved for the people they claim to represent. it's a big grift. name some non-superficial achievements of BLM that have helped black people - the largest ones i can think of are marches that accomplished nothing meaningful, a bunch of ugly ass art in urban spaces, and some renamed infrastructure. major corporations and idiots support them for various reasons, but largely because they know people dumb enough to support the group will spend $$$ more frivolously if they believe they are making a difference. stop using black people and race to push your neobolshevism garbage-tier ideals on everybody. after years of attending in cosplay, i'm thinking this con is dead to me. who the hell wants to be responsible for funding people that hate our society so much?to further top it off, if you consider that whites are the most vaccinated group in the state you can argue that the mandate for this event was a way to decrease racial diversity at the convention (which it certainly did).
>>10768133Some of the complaints about the dealer’s room I was seeing were that the sponsors were taking up too much space and not even using it to sell the kind merchandise the attendees were looking for. Just wasted space used for advertising.
>>10768133A couple of my favorite regular panels/panelists didn’t return this year, and the one that did announced he’s retiring and probably never coming back.
>>10768186Our parents and grandparents were right to see communists as omens of decay. We will be relearning this sooner or later
>>10768118Glad to hear you had fun anon! Does that mean you'll be returning next year? If so do you think you'll try cosplaying?
>>10768176Hmm, I see. Yeah I understand that. I'm not on the AB staff so I don't have any insight, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that the demand for floor space just wasn't there this year.>>10768178I imagine a lot of the great OG's aren't coming back or are retiring, and now is the time for new generation of panelists and they just need practice.
>>10768202>assume that the demand for floor space just wasn't there this yearI don’t really know how these things work either, so maybe there’s a reason they can’t do this, but: Couldn’t they just move some of the artists from the artist alley into the under utilized slots in the dealer’s room, and then use the space to expand the aisles between booths in the artist alley? The artist alley is always crowded as fuck and in addition to the artist alley being in a smaller space, the aisles are always so much narrower than those in the dealer’s room.
>>10768197NTA, but also my first and I did not cosplay. Next year I do plan to return and I do plan to cosplay. I have a whole year to plan it out and get in better shape so I'm excited.
>>10768162I'll agree BLM as an org sucks. They just basically gave money to Democrats. If the woman in charge really was a Marxist as she claimed she has to be the worst Marxist on planet earth. Marx understood that the established political parties in a bourgeoise state do not represent the people and should not be supported.>>10768189Communism is inevitable. The decay of the current capitalist world is upon us here as the west starts to crumble. The people will finally take control. But enough of this bullshit this isn't /pol.
>>10767668Felt super fun, I just wish that AA is expanded next year to be both rooms again
>>10768197yeah I'll likely be returning next year. I've also been looking into other cons in the new england area that I'll probably try out too. I'd like to try cosplaying, I've always thought it seemed neat but actually seeing it in person and seeing how much fun everyone seemed to be having definitely makes it seem worthwhile
>>10768244I was looking into some today. Does anybody have any recommendations? I saw one in Westford, looks smal this fall. I wonder how those smaller cons are. I like small music festivals, and Anime Boston felt like a large music festival, so I wonder if it's similar.
>>10768246The only other cons in the Boston area I've been to are Fanexpo and PAX East. PAX East is one to keep an eye on, it's usually huge with a lot of stuff to do but this year it was very scaled down. I always have a good time there with my friends so I highly recommend it. I wouldn't call it a huge cosplay event, there are way more cosplayers at AB. Fanexpo has always been underwhelming to me, it's basically a huge dealer's room and the panels are mostly for new, mainstream stuff like TV shows and movies. There also used to be an annual Star Trek convention at the Hynes but they haven't done it in several years because life is pain.
>>10768281I've always wanted to go to PAX east but never made it happen. I think I'm gonna change that. I looked into FanExpo and I agree didnt seem much up my alley.
I've got a wig I ordered off of Amazon, and I've got two questionsThe first is that after testing it out for a second it started to become a little frizzled, how can I unfrizzle it?My second question is, how can I get the wig to stay in the same style all day? Is hair gel enough or is that a bad ideaThanks!
I felt glad to be home yesterday but now I'm feeling bummed its all over. I geuss the day back to work and monotony made me feel it more.
>be me>go tot he con>play cruisin exotica a lot>be good enough to get the top times in all the tracks>fills the scoreboards with kek>forgets to take picture to prove it>video game room shuts down before i can get proof. Now nobody will believe that I spent fucking hours doing this but I did.

Anybody have any good stories from weekend?
ended up doing cosplay games this year and it was fun as fuck. what'd everyone think of the deathmatch and chess this year?
Where do photographers upload shoot photos from one of the official cosplay shoots? Is it on the AB website?
>>10768513As in the scheduled cosplay meetups? You should look on IG if you didn't get the photographer's contact info. But the truth is nobody would upload pics from those meets because they're always in dark ass conference rooms and will look like shit.
>>10768513I've just been searching Twitter for "anime boston" and Instagram for "#animeboston2022" and going through the results.Speaking of which, am I out of touch for not being on Instagram? I found one of the cosplayers I liked from the show on Twitter and while she (male) updates there frequently she (male) only has 36 followers. Meanwhile on Instagram she (male) hasn't posted in over a year but has ten times the followers.
>>10768133Venders were pretty mid-tier this year. For those interested in tokushit, apparently security wouldn't let them bring in Shotrisers or Slashrisers because they looked too much like weapons lol.All-in-all seemed like an unfortunate mix of people still hesitant to do in-person events and everyone just being on-edge all the time.
>>10767342Found her: https://www.instagram.com/cosplay_cannoli/I can stop checking Instagram for new AB pictures now
This past weekend was the first time I went to AB and the first time iv ever cosplayed. It was a nice con as cons go, but cosplaying in one is like a dream. I felt like a whole new person, and to boot people are WAY more friendly if your dressed up. I had so much fun and meet a quite a few people. Even a guy who mentioned 4chan, which i thought odd at first (wasnt this place supposed to be a secret club). Im a bit sad no one recognized who I cosplayed as, but I was told it looked good so im satisfied. Learned how to sow by hand, spent ungodly amounts of money on outfit, travel and hotels and feel far more confident with making new friends. I went specifically for the hololive panel so I lurked /vt/ for con updates, but then I remembered this board and found this thread after the fact. Next year and maybe even for some upcoming NE cons, im def going to be a part of these threads. Hopefully I can even meet up with other anons and share that dream like experience I drove away with on sunday.
>>10768933Glad to hear you had a good time, what did you dress up as? I also went for the Hololive thing in particular and loved the Council part, but the ID part was a bit painful.
>>10768934I went as Yukoku Roberu from Holostars. Its understandable that no one knows who he is. The stars only get like 1k viewers typically and theyre mostly Japanese. And as to >>10766278 I only finished styling my outfit just before I walked out of my hotel room on saturday. The ID part of the panel was rough yeah. Its too bad too because theyre both good streamers normally. The Fauna and Kronii part was exceptional. I went to Fanexpo last year and while those were good, Fauna and kronii blew it out of the park in this one. They are great MCs
>>10768933less of a secret club and more like a place everyone knows about but doesnt want to admit it
>>10768937>Yukoku RoberuYeah that's a tough sell, I can understand you being disappointed when nobody recognized you since lots of people were there for Hololive. I think I should cosplay next time too but I'm not up to date on FOTM anime stuff so I'd either just do a NERV technician or a Starfleet uniform. Maybe meet some fellow boomers.
>>10768940I might have heard one girl go "oh its another roberu cosplay" as I walked down the hallway to line up, but im not sure. You can go as anything and people will love it though. There was a rick roll guy and a few banana maraca guys. A giant transformer and all kinds of non anime shit. Just pick anything and a budget, and procrastinate on finishing it until its time to don your outfit and con it up.
>>10768937Oh Roberu is good choice. Too bad I didn't see any Bae cosplayers or any Council cosplay either. I wish I saw you anon. I think next year I'm gonna dress up too it seems like a lot of fun and would be a bit easier to interact with people.
>>10768965I definitely saw one or two Mumeis
>>10768968Fuck really? Wish I saw them. I mostly just saw Guras
>>10768933>>10768937I came for the hololive panel too, even won a meet and greet. I agree the Fauna and Kronii panel was just a great time. This was kind of a last minute thing so I didn't plan my trip out very well and this was my first con so I ended up mostly walking around the con. I did manage to meet a few people which was cool.I was actually thinking if I did do cosplay that I'd do Roberu just because he looks stylish and he's the holostars I know the most about.>>10768939People will readily admit to being redditors but don't really talk about 4chan so much. I had one guy describe 4chan to me as the "edgier reddit."
>>10769195Who did you get to meet? How was it? I haven't talked to anyone that did.
>>10769196It was Reine. She had a few questions prepared so I didn't have to think about what to talk about. It was very quick, probably less than 5 minutes. They brought us in a room where she was on a tv with a webcam on top, and there were 2 or maybe more staff with you in the room. Overall I'm glad to have done it, but I was really nervous during it and kind of talked over her a bit, and gave like one word answers to her questions.
>>10769206That's cool. Sounds about what I expected. I only put in for Fauna l, cuz she's my oshi. should have put in for the ID girls probably would have had a better chance.
>>10769208I put in for all except Ollie (I don't really watch her so I thought someone else should have the chance) but I do get the feeling Ollie and Reine probably had less entries. According to a staff member I talked to there were over a thousand entries (or something like that, I don't remember exactly) and about 20 spots for each talent. Two or three people won two meets, and nobody won three or more.
>>10769209Damn 20 spots. Yeah that's not great odds. Thanks for all the info anon. Hope you enjoyed the rest of the convention too.
Anyone else get COVID from AB or was that just me?
>>10769195Yeah Roberu was relatively easy to cosplay. The hardest part is going to be the lions headed belt buckle and broach which I havent finished yet. Though his outfits gradient from a light purple to a navy blue and down to pine green makes a "true" cosplay pretty hard. I might work on an Astel or Vox cosplay next. Maybe Shiens summer outfit if I feel like a whore.>>10770009Get those vitamin D reps in, Anon. I think some of the staff might of had it cuz one panelist i know might have it now after staffing AB.
>>10765501Dude PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE cosplay Kai next year, meeting gundam fans (let alone cosplayers) always makes my consI only saw about 3 gundam cosplayers this year anyways
