With Iwai fast approaching and no discussion around for months, I believe the time has come. Here is the latest thread for info and updates on all (known) conventions within the Sunshine State. They are as follows>Anime Iwai - November 12-14 - Fort Lauderdale>Anime Town: Pensacola - November 20-21 - Pensacola>Holiday Matsuri - December 17-19 - Orlando>OtakuFest - January 15-16 - Miami>Brick City Anime Festival - February 12-13 - Ocala>Pensacon - February 18-20 - Pensacola>LOLCON - February 19 - Seawalk Pavilion - Jacksonville Beach>Collective Con - March 11-13 - Jacksonville>SwampCon - March 26-27 - Gainesville>MegaCon Orlando - May 19-22 - Orlando>Supercon - May 20-22 - Miami Beach>Mizucon - May 28-30 - Miami>Anime Festival Orlando 2022 - June 24-26 - OrlandoThoughts? Plans? Meet-ups? Expectations? Discord link would have been included, except they're always expired by the time I find them.
>>10696852Is the Florida /cgl/ scene a bad as I hear? Thinking about attending some Florida cons since I'm from the south but don't know if I want to hang with gulls
>>10696852Continued here to avoid going off topic in the first post. Plans for me are that Iwai and OtakuFest are guaranteed on all days, especially given that OtakuFest was my favorite of this whole year. Matsuri is high priority but still contested. MegaCon and SuperCon at once is a problem. The latter is closer but the former is probably better. SuperCon this year was absolutely pitiful. Speaking of, Mizucon is close but not worth checking out for more than a day, no doubt. Anime Festival Orlando was on my list this year, and was the lone cancellation, so no idea.
>>10696853Well, that was quick. Most I can say about this is that I've run into some gulls at multiple cons, the latest one being AWA. They're cool enough, even if they kinda just showed up at the DoubleTree lobby for Otakufest like "So is this the /cgl/ meetup?" Guess so, even if it wasn't planned. And regardless of where they came from, the other people there really made it. For such a new con. it seems the community is forming pretty quickly. Heard Iwai is good for that, but need to see for myself since this upcoming one is my first. (And a redemption arc of sorts, because I missed it in 2019 and that was my last chance for a con before lockdowns commenced.)
>>10696852I plan to attend anime iwai this year. Its gonna be my second time cosplaying, since my first was supercon earlier this year. What exactly should I expect from iwai? For larger cons like supercon I always just shop, people watch, and take pics with cosplayers. Idk how a con like iwai is supposed to be handled, can I just expect to do all the same stuff at just a smaller scale?
>>10697212Iwai is small so yes that on a smaller scale. Iwai is also a party con which happens after hours.
Not bothering with Iwai this year, fun convention no doubt but as I’ve gotten older I’ve started to care less about the party scene at cons. Looking forward to holmat though.
>>10697212Supercon was weak as fuck, honestly. Dead on Friday, not a very engaging crowd, more staff than guests by midnight Saturday. The guy I was with made the good point of mentioning that it's because Supercon is not actually an anime con, which attracts the more dull attendees. From what I heard, Iwai is much better for "the community" aspect. And also, there's an entire floor in the hotel dedicated to con goers, which could be a beautiful disaster depending on how it turns out.
>>10696852Sad to see how slow this general is; anyone else coming to HolMat? :O
>>10697496Considering the general pace of this board, I'm not too upset. HolMat is on my list, since I've been told "It's the best Florida has to offer" but I'm probably doing Con+Alt+Delete in Chicago. Not a great tradeoff, no, except I'm already gonna be there and so will people l know
Iwai looking crowded already. I'm here in line as Rei now, and doing Ryuko later.
>>10697496For sure going, anything good to eat out there?
>>10697496For sure going as well
Five cons this weekend, and no one here for any of them. Sad! The panels at Iwai honestly might be the best I've ever seen.
>>10697333congoers. Homie you misspelled party goers*. Hell Yeahhhh
Pretty much all my cons have been shit in FL so Otakufest will be my last one for the state if I can help it. Cool cons but man sometimes oof
>>10698073Good point. Did you go to the burlesque party? I'm heading back up there when karaoke ends
Anime Iwai was pretty lit, pretty much Holmat jr. Even the lobby was decorated for Christmas. 8/10 would recommend, very comfy
>>10696852Anime Iwai was awesome. The party floor was so much fun last night. This was my first time going to Anime Iwai and I'm definitely going to be back again next year. Hyped for HolMat next
Iwai was pretty fun, I'm sad I couldn't stay for the parties. Still, it was fun posing with people for pictures and generally having a good time in my Joseph cosplay. I'm glad that the Kirishima bro won an award, he rocked the part well and had a great body and cosplay.
>>10698272>masks during pictures>masks stilloh great, you're a retard
>>10698274Lmao I forgot to take it off during pictures most of the time. The lobby was super chill with no masks but the 2nd floor was super restrictive. By the afternoon I just kept it off and used my scarf around staff
>>10698178>>10698207Alright, you fine folks have convinced me. Even if my friends are going to Chicago for Con + Alt + Del, I'll have to just ignore that one in favor of HolMat. People all over Iwai itself were talking about it nonstop, too. And since this was my first Iwai, I thought staff-operated "official" parties would be lame. Hoo boy, how wrong I was.
>>10698272Both of you are cuties. Would three-some with only mild regret.
Haven't been to a con since pre-covid, how's the atmosphere these days?
>>10698539Pretty good. Been to a few when I had the time, I think the biggest complaint I had at these things was the time in which they had hours of operation during. They are definitely smaller and you can feel it even to some of the ones I went to as a first time con goer for some.If going to any of the up coming conventions I would for sure keep expectations a bit lower and down to earth. You can have good fun at these conventions but expecting the same precovid scene is just asking for disappointment before it begins
>>10698488>>10698207>>10697819>>10697893you guys want to meet up?? first HolMat
>>10699759I'm down homie
>>10699759I'm down l, but hopefully I can make it. I didn't know smash world tour would be down there the exact same weekend. Definitely going to be spending some time at SWT.
>>10699759As someone's who had nothing but good times with gulls (who always spot me first), I'm totally willing. Also...>firstWhat was meant by this?
>>10700858I just meant it's my first time at HolMat :o>>10700814>>10700608let us come up with a seagull signal when the con is nigh
>>10700951Was wondering if you meant Otakufest after. I literally just tell people here who I'm going as and that's good enough. Like ten gulls have recognized me between Iwai and Colossalcon
Jesus Christ, I waited till the last minute to submit my panel for Otakufest, but hey it's not too late. I already asked the owner during Iwai if he's gonna be doing that meet up at Flynn's Arcade on the 11th so maybe I can talk to him again there. Wish me luck.
>>10697496I am definitely going to Holmat. Glad someone else besides me seems excited about it.
>>10701647>>10700954I got a room but I can’t tell if I really have it or if they’re bullshitting me and it’s overbooked…? Have you guys ever booked a room at a con hotel and then been turned away? I’m getting paranoid cause my con room cost me a lot of money. Similarly I’m wondering if I cucked myself by buying a VIP pass—is the VIP room even worth it?
>>10702120> Have you guys ever booked a room at a con hotel and then been turned away?I have not but I’ve only gotten a hotel for a con twice. Actually kind of worried about this now that you mention it.Also VIP room is pretty great. The pass is worth it.
>>10702168Okay thanks man see y’all there ^^
based Florida not ruining my costumes with gay ass masks… I’ve been to one other con with no mask mandate and everyone seemed so relieved like they didn’t have to pretend to give a fuck anymore
Hearing good stuff about HolMat makes me think I bought a ticket for that instead of Otakufest, but then again that gives me more time to work on my cosplay so I think it's the right choice
>>10702912wow I did not mean to say "makes me think"
>>10702912From what I understand, HolMat is the cream of the crop. However, you really can't go wrong with this one either. All the smaller, more localized events I've done have been all fun, drama free all weekend. There's also a giant roster of gulls that are going and things to do already prepped for Otakufest. Literally all you have to do find us is say "Go here, look for this outfit." They WILL come. And if not, I'll do it since my summoning skills are higher than average.
>>10703031I don't even go on /cgl/ much anyway, I basically only did because I had a cosplay and was thinking about going somewhere lmao, I did it two years ago too
>>10703101The fact that I'm male cosplaying a male character should say something (though I have cosplayed a female character once but didn't go anywhere, and it was a character often made male anyway)
>>10702912Same anon here, I'm going to OtakuFest as Keiichi Maebara (casual outfit, mostly inspired by the VN and Deen anime) if anyone's curious
Welp, we're getting pretty close to HolMat. If anyone knows a good place to (quickly) coordinate, I'm all ears because I found two Florida Discord servers and they're insanely dead.Oh, yeah and that Flynn's Arcade meet up thing is in 5 days too.
>>10705054I know of one discord but it is also pretty dead. Also not cosplaying this year because lazy so pretty sure I won’t be welcomed at any meetups. Can link the server though as a place to rally.https://discord.gg/4vsgJd8Y
HolMat just announced mask mandates..... Absolutely cucked. Don't (You) me>>10705054I was just gonna post my outfits/location when I get there. That way if people think I look retarded they have the option to avoid me
Am I blind or do they accept the digital passport shit for vaccine proof?
nvm I'm dumb no vax required just recommended, with how every other con has been I wasn't sure. The mask thing seems big but I wonder if they care about it outside at all.
Does anyone else find it absolutely delicious that all these get vaxxed wear a mask libral cosplay fucks are beelining it to holiday Matsuri which can really only happen because of the based republican governor. They sure hate freedom until they don't get to have fun con chill times then I guess Florida is ok
>>10707549But are they really? They seem to bitch and moan about how the end is here, the con will suck, we all die and deserve it anyway. Whatever the case, I expect very weak enforcement at HolMat. As of now, Otakufest (exactly one month out by the way) has zero.
>>10707614I sure am noticing a lot of people from all over attending this year and the only reason I can think of is that this is the first con that people felt "safe" attending after covid.
>>10707802>I sure am noticing a lot of people from all overYeah, you're telling me. Someone figured out what was I doing based on my special backpack during my layover in Ft. Myers earlier with him coming from Milwaukee and me in Chicago, both on the same connecting flight. That's as good a sign as any that this is one going out of your way for. Speaking of which, there's no maskers all over, in the airport and on the bus, so fingers crossed.Haven't headed out yet, but I'll be there eventually in the few hours to scout for day 0 shenanigans. Look for Ryuko (default Senketsu uniform)
Am I the only one secretly hoping HolMat crashes and burns because of the Wuhan novel coronavirus code-named omicron?
nayone going to this is beyond stupid. I don't even have word to start, but anyone going is just delaying cons further. thanks for indefinitely having us on lockdowns and never getting proper it's guests from Japan again. didn't anyc teach you fucking fat neck ears scrotes anything? I'm so fucking done with this country I want to move to Canada if it wasn't for the comm scene being shit
>>10707963Absolutely SEETHING hole. How funny that you say "fat" when all I picture from anyone who says "scrote" is the most repulsive ham planet imaginable. And let's be real here. You're never returning to the scene anyway (and we are ALL the better for it) because le new monthly variant on the news will scare you into complacence for the rest of your miserable existence. Stay mad, stay obsessed. You're here forever.
>>10707802>>10707876Ha, I encountered a dude that came from Washington DC by train.
The number of catty cosplay bitches who spent the last 2 years screaming online about how you need to be masked and then vaxxed and then boosted because we're all going to die of covid that are at this con posting group selfies unmasked is so high. Guess that we only yell about it until we want to have fun cosplay tiem UwU
Why the hell do the 18+ panels enforce clear bags when there's barely anything enforcing that the rest of the con?
How do I pick up cosplay girls?
>>10708377With your arms
I’m at Holmat rn and I need head from a Heather Mason cosplayer so bad bros.
>>10708382Haven't seen in spite of the unusual (?) overabundance of Christmas-theme horror characters. If you just want a strung out meth head looking type, that shouldn't be too hard to find.
>>10708398Ok but how do I get the sex? Is there a standard procedure or do I have to just wing it?
>>10708436The bunny girls are all sex workers, you only need to ask them how much they cost for the hour.
>>10708478I asked and they just got mad.
>>10708502>pay for sexI may be a loser and an Incel but I’m not THAT pathetic
how about those Saturday night lines
>>10707928Knowing that they mandated all staff to get vaccinated, I refused to attend this year. Such blatant disregard for people's bodily rights really bothered me.If you're that worried about COVID, STAY HOME.
And before anyone misunderstands, I said STAFF, not attendees. Attendees just have to mask up and stuff which is less invasive than a vaccine mandate that is literally not even legal for businesses in FL to do.
>>10708572You're may favorite type of faggot when it comes to this stuff. Do you hold the same opinion of bodily autonomy when it comes to recreational drugs? What about abortion? What about employer mandates when it comes to tattoos? If you aren't going to consistent across the board when it comes bodily autonomy then shut the fuck up. It's very clear that isn't your hang up lol
>>10708635Yes, I am consistent on all those things. People have a right to live how they want to with their own bodies. Now what?
What are the definitive Florida cons? Like the ones everyone should go to? I’ve only been to Metrocon and Holmat. Are there any others really worth going to?
>>10708572>>10708574>>10708635>>10708676What irks me the most is masks and the hypocrisy behind them. If these preachy pro mask cunts REALLY cared about Covid that much they’d be wearing a full hazmat suit and only eating and drinking alone in a sealed sterilized room or better yet, not going out at all. But they don’t really care. They just care about looking virtuous.>bbbut if we don’t go out and enforce masks evil chuds will gatherAnd? They regularly express a desire to see anti mask and vax people die from Covid. Why not let them? Unless, it’s not really about Covid. It’s about appearances.
>>10708688That's what gets me the most, the hypocrisy. You have to wear a mask unless you're eating. This means restaurants will make you wear a mask in the lobby but you don't need to when you sit down. Does the Corona just respect that you're eating and only tries to get you when you're in the lobby? If it's really this deadly why is society being allowed to continue at all? That's the case with everything.I once saw a clip of a politician behind a stage. He wasn't wearing a mask. When he had to go to the podium, he put one on to walk over to it for appearances, then took it off when he got there to give a speech. This is all just a big show that's been going on for TWO YEARS. Yet no one seems to notice or care. Of course the Omicron had to suddenly show up and steal Christmas for the second year in a row.Living in fear, living behind a mask that hides one's individuality, is not living at all. We all have to die one day and I'd rather risk it being short yet enjoyable than this slow decay into stagnation.
>>10708685For me? It's Otakufest and Iwai. The BEST Florida cons. All fun, drama free, parties everywhere. At HolMat now, but FUCK ME I could not find a single good party. Should've been easy given this is called MATSURI but evidently not. Nobody I talked to knew of anything either. Scouting outside the Shinra building (Marriott) for anything didn't work either. Oh well. I'll be back next year, but this still did not meet expectations.
>>10708694The hotels have no party policies. Not that that would stop anyone but that combined with the mask policy probably kept a lot of people from getting as close and intimate as they normally would.
>>10708717It most certainly should not. Anime Dallas 2020 was a hole in the wall con and I still found a big party there. And not sure why mask policy matters when A. There were a billion people in the lobby really late B. absolutely no enforcement there.
Anyone here want to cuddle naked? Not sexual but just wondering. Looking for some people who booked till tomorrow here at the hotel. Must be female and preferably from maid dragon. I have roughly 100 dollars for 2 hours I will also provide services such as charging your phone and following you on any social media. I will even buy you sushi from down stairs at the sushi place to prove I am not a creep. Please let me know I will be a deku cosplayer in the lobby.
>>10708694Otakufest looks fun but>no solicitation signsAs someone who intends to cosplay as Chris Chan at the event that’s extremely disappointing.
post holmat buyzi got some ojamajo doremi and precure books too
Is it just me or was the 18+ devient party on Saturday pretty lame and weird? I was only in there for like 30 minutes around 10pm, and almost no one was dancing and I heard it was just creeps trying to grab at the dancers on stage. I went to the rave and that shit was awesome, but some people said the deviants thing picked up and became better later on, is that true?
>>10708927The Saturday rave was fucking awesome, some weeabs are pretty alright.
Alright, I liked some parts like the venue and vibe but not the crowds or lack of interesting stuff to do. Will return with Christmas cosplay next year. Also random aside but this place is literally the Shinra building, even down to the spotlights. Still here by the way. I'm chilling by the pool as Rei.As for Otakufest, two updates: mu "Occult themes of animu and vidya" got accepted...three days after they said emails went out. Also, I am gathering people in IRL life, Discord and now here for a party at my house on January 14. Next step is figuring out how to say the location without spamming my address.
>>10709019And I pay the price for trusting myself to not make typos on the phone MY "Occult themes of animu and vidya" PANEL got accepted
Anyone ever been to Ocala's con? I somewhat recently moved there so I was thinking about checking it out. Chain store wagies are forced to wear masks but I barely ever see anyone else wearing them here so if they add any mask rules it would be purely because of the people running the con. I haven't been to anything recently except a free con because I refuse to pay to get in to a place where I would be forced to wear a cuck muzzle. I assume this con won't have a huge turnout but I am considering paying for it to support local anime events that don't have completely retarded staff. Also, a light fuck you to OP because I think the term scrote is funny.
>>10709076Oh, forgot to address my screenshot. They have this silly stuff in their rules but i kind if assume anime cons just copy paste this crap at this point.
>>10708927yeah it was a bunch of mouthbreathers standing stick straight and just staring at the women, no dancing or anything. Plus they kept staggering letting people in so it felt really empty once you got there. Went to the rave and didn't go back so idk if it got better. My friend did make 130 dollars from some dude sticking money in her tiddies on stage so that was cool.
Is there even a point to doing my Keiichi cosplay, I worry that not many other people will recognize it, I also know I should do what I want but I still feel a little down about that...
>Also, a light fuck you to OP because I think the term scrote is funny.
>>10709247I'll be completely honest with you man, I love Higurashi, but if you're after recognition, I don't think Keiichi will net you much. The girls all have their unique styles which would make them more recognizable, like rena, but keichii is at best going to make you just look like a generic anime guy with a white shirt. It also doesn't help that not only is keichii not very well known, there are like at least 4 versions of him floating around between the VN (classic, ps3, PC), and anime versions.
>>10709019Drop the discord man, I'm looking for parties and friends at Otakufest
>>10709324Yeah I know, but I'm already so far into this cosplay and want to go through with it (mine is mainly classic with a bit of ps3 inspiration, and I'm doing both outfits)
>>10709345Best I can hope for is that if anyone is cosplaying any of the girls they'd recognize me / I can take pics with them
>>10709345Forgot to mention another inspiration for mine is Deen
>>10709325Problems with being so sleepy, you're passing out while standing up: Assuming that "Drop the Discord" means "You shouldn't be using Discord" before noticing that's wrong after reading it twice more. On a more relevant note, people here seem to get banned for advertising servers but let's try anyway.https://discord.gg/Ub9h6HYUAct now, cause I have zero clue how long that invite is good for.
Lucie Pohl had symptoms and showed up to Holmat anyway. VAs are dumb as bricks.
>>10709525The post said she /started/ feeling sick on Friday, meaning she was already there. You're the only dumb one.
>>10709770It is the job of the vaxmaxxer to spread fear among their cohorts, no matter how much of a stretch that may require.
>>10709770And... lmao... She worked all of Friday and Saturday. People who work when they are sick regardless of what they are sick with are retarded boot lickers. Bet you also love the taste of your bosses ass too huh LMAO cope seethe
>>10709781Yeah really, it's no big deal and these vaxx tards love spreading their fear. I'm pretty sure I had covid symptoms and I went anyway. Not going to take some dumb test for the common cold/flu
>>10709971>I'm pretty sure I had covid symptoms and I went anywayYeah, I'm thinking based. Also glad that mask enforcement was weak, like I expected it would be.>>10710200Dude, this can go inactive for weeks without archiving. We're fine, but I do appreciate it. We'll surely pick back up when Otakufest gets closer anyway. Also checked.
>>10710201>Also glad that mask enforcement was weak, like I expected it would beHonestly seeing how Anime NYC was with their "mask enforcement", I wasn't worried at all. Florida is way more based. Reminder to everyone here that anyone virtue signaling about wearing a mask was taking it off for their room party that same night.
>>10710228>for their room party that same night.Well shit. If there were any open invite parties, I found exactly one on Sunday night and it was pretty small. Hence why I'm genuinely shocked that an event called Matsuri was so thoroughly lacking in that area. It's what everybody told I should expect, while at Iwai too (bumped into a ton of people and a ton more bumped into me.) But no, everybody just had to crash in the lobby instead.
>>10710228All the more reason the fact they enforced vaccine mandate on staff is unacceptable.
>>10708927That's how the 18+ Saturday night event is every year. The rave is much better, Tiny Waves puts on a good show. The Friday night rave is great too, I personally preferred it to Saturday's although it is much smaller.
Jesus Christ you guys are beyond pathetic
can anyone at mega score me some meth or should i bring beforehand
>>10708978The rave was awesome. Holmat is always a good time. Definitely going again next year. >>10709076I've never been, but I was thinking of going. The only thing that makes me hesitant is that there is no information on any panels or events that I can find. I hope it's not just a vendor room with a couple VA booths.
Bump of justice to remind folks I was recruiting people at HolMat and Discord and now here for a get together at my place on the evening of January 14 for my party. Probably gonna be something more chill rather than balls to the wall, but I'll do you right with drinks, snacks and background entertainment. Not sure what kind of turnout to expect, but a few other things:>in IRL life coordinating will probably happen at Doubletree on the 14th, around 6-8 PM>To make sure everyone has enough, plz bring at least some liquor to share, on top of what I have already. >Any gulls are invited, on the condition of being "cool", and so are any friends that are "cool" (down with chan trolling in person)See you there, weebs.
>>10696852Wow are there no cons at all in the Tampa Bay Area?
>>10714340It would seem Metrocon was not announced when I made this thread, so you've got that. There's also Lumicon, which isn't listed on Animecons.com yet
Are there any uncucked Florida cons? They all seem to require masks.
>>10714447Of the several no mask cons I did last year, one was Metrocon. Iwai and HolMat did have them on paper but enforcement was extremely limited. As of now, Otakufest's site still says they are not requiring either.
8 or 9 days out. I swear to God, I'm not gonna figure out what my time slot is until the schedule drops if this keeps up.
Well FINALLY the schedule dropped and it's actually looking incredible. My picks for Saturday though I will no doubt fail at most:>Stereobending (hopefully not TOO full of pozz)>Wig styling>Maid cafe>Trina Nishimura panel>My Con-Tinerary>FLCL screening>Initial D screening>Karaoke>Touhou (HIGHEST of priorities, it's without question the gull nexus)>Attack on Titan screening, assuming it's the newest one>Late Night Cosplay ContestThis con is seriously going places, and fast. I couldn't even find a couple worthwhile panels in the first one.
Well to be perfectly desu right now, I Was really hoping we'd have some more activity than cons that ended almost a week ago, but here we are. Whatever the case, I'm putting out the call to any interested parties: I'm dropping into DoubleTree tonight (probably after 7) and definitely tomorrow, around 5. For today, Jojo shirt and FMA necklace. For tomorrow, Haruko. Also I'm sure I'll look like I'm wandering and looking for something.
Trying to plan out my year, has anyone been to Mizucon before? Is it based or unbased?!
>>10718690I’m attending first time this year so idk, looks like it will be similar to colossal
Otakufest was very fun this year. Time will tell, but it seems like SoFlo will finally have a good, big anime convention again.
mfw missed out on the gull meetup at Otaku though i'm decently certain I saw one of you on sunday night at the Touhou shindig, I dropped in near the end for a bit in my Black Coat cosplay, can't miss the top hat.
This was it, folks. I came in with high expectations, and we met them all, or utterly exceeded them. I made it all the way to day -3 (today) and now I need to see some highlights cause even I might have forgotten quite a few>My first con party on Friday>A massive reunion special from the second I walk in>Things aligning perfectly like "Did you see the Spider-Men all pointing at each other?" "Yeah, there's two behind you.">Not being able to go more than a few steps without a compliment or asked for a picture>My panel going great with a full room, few leaving and no one calling me insane, plus insulting a heckler>Shocking the Touhou panel host with my knowledge>Networking and pulling favors like never before>Debating which one of three parties to attend, before realizing two of them were the same, and then making it to the "third" one>All my crews amassing into one>The most insane con party I've ever seen with 40+ people in a room>Getting details from people who want to help me set up my own convention>Tip offs about three local events in the next two months>Dicking around in the Wawa parking lot at 3 AM, before going back and jamming till 6>Trolling con jannies repeatedly>Unofficial panel rooms all around with Ram Ranch musical chairs and karaokeAnd then the ultimate...>The 50+ people all running through the halls, screaming 1000 Miles and crashing panel rooms>Absolutely repugnant onions staffer telling us to get out then insulting him to his face and kicking me out>Camping in a room until another party started>Chatting up almost everyone about what went down and prying for more details>Going into vendor hall and upstairs over a day after it was closed down>Hanging with a girl until 2:30 todaySo yeah, 37/10. Would do again. Only bad part is being so huge, we might have to upgrade to a bigger venue, which is when it gets bad /blog>>10719459Thanks for having me when I needed that bailout, much appreciate it.
>>10718921>looks like it will be similar to colossalConsidering there's only one day apart, you actually a chance to see why that's not true. If you've ever seen Colossal, you'll know why the second you walk into Mizucon, home to the smallest venue I've ever attended.
Taking a look at Collective Con in Jax, has anyone been/know anything? There's no panel listings or anything like that.
I'm going to Tampa in a couple weeks to have a small egl meet with a couple friends. Does anyone know of any nice places to go for that sort of thing? Cute/nice places to eat? Places for aesthetic photos? Tea houses? Restaurants? Coffee shops? Fun activities or places to visit?
Well then. I did not realize we were so close to archiving. Not exactly holding breath for any familiar faces, but just a reminder that Beyond ComicCon is this Saturday in North Miami Beach and I will be there in my usual attire.
I've only been to Megacon since I live in Orlando and the last one was such a bore. Are there any upcoming conventions with fun events?
>>10728239My house, please come to my house
No familiar faces from /cgl/ at Beyond but it was still insanely packed for a seven-hour event at a tiny venue. No masks enforcement either, even with me as the only one not bothering. Very nice. It would seem I'm just going to keep running into the crew of maids because they've been at 4/4 of my last Florida events. Also I know I was insanely plastered because aside from the obvious (passing out for hours, long after everyone left), they kept giving some random address and I went without a clue as to what it was. Ended up being a gigantic warehouse, so shame I forgot most of it.>>10734653There's a huge slew of Florida cons I learned about last Saturday, none of which are advertised on animecons.com. I'll see if I can even remember them all. There's stuff in Ft. Lauderdale (March 27), Sunrise (August), Ft. Myers, Sarasota and Tampa. That's all I can remember for now.
>>10724579I went years ago when it was at some Shriner place. It was basically a weeb flee market, nothing to do, and way over priced. Literally stayed 45 minutes and then left. Really wish I could've gotten my $ back.8MGAM
>>10735083Unfortunately I already bought the tickets and booked the hotel. Fortunately, it does have some good celebrity lineups; I'm a sucker for Star Wars and I'll give it a chance.
>>10735089Hopefully it's gotten better in the past 4 or 5 years now that it's also at a better location. Let us know how it turns out.
>>10734875Thanks for letting me know. I'll do some more research for cons in March
>>10736274And on that note, it's time for an update.>SW-FloridaCon - March 6 - Ft. Myers>My-Con - March 26 - Orlando>FreeCon - March 26-27 - Tallahassee>Ft-LauderdaleCon - March 27 - Ft. Lauderdale>ATC Market - April 30 - Jacksonville>GACUCon - July 3-9 - starts in Miami, goes to Bahamas, Haiti and Jamaica>Bold Matsuri - July 9-10 - Jacksonville>Metrocon 2022 - July 15-17 - Tampa>Sunrise Comic Con - August 13 - Sunrise>SarasotaCon - August 13 - Sarasota>Anime St. Pete - September 17-18 - St. Petersburg>SW-FloridaCon - November 22 - Ft. Myers (again)>Holiday Matsuri - December 16-18 - OrlandoThere was something I heard about another Tampa one, but nothing beyond that. Also Anime Iwai is already set and they're just waiting to announce the dates. A very promising lineup, and I'd never even heard of most of these. GACUcon is now a top priority for this year too.
>>10737142Not him, but Metrocon is lit
>>10737142What about the Tampa Bay Comic Con 2 weeks after Metrocon?
>>10737768To be desu, I'm only listing stuff on animecons.com or whatever cathches my eye. Comic Cons do NOT, as my two most lackluster experiences last year were at ReedPoop-owned events. A convention for me is an excuse to gather cool people in one place and get super drunk with. Comic Con "people" aren't cool at all.
I can't wait for Swampcon. Those anime club trannies that did that online crap 2 years in a row are about to get an explosive amount of pent-up goonery and public intoxication. ITS BEEN SO LONG
Anyone know if Megacon or Metrocon are gonna make you wear masks?
>>10738210Last year when I went to Metrocon they asked if I was vaxxed before I entered and I said no, they told me to wear a mask in that case and I just entered and no one gave a fuck about me not wearing a mask even though they told me to wear one beforehand. You'll be fine maskless, especially now that pretty much no place is "enforcing" it in FL.
>>10738210Metrocon had absolutely zero mask enforcement last year. What I anticipate is they'll tell you to do in on paper and not enforce at all. That's what happened at Otakufest this year. I walked past the owner multiple times without a mask and he said nothing. HolMat was also fairly weak about it.
>>10738210From waht I recall metro doesnt really give a shit
>>10737795>Comic Con "people" aren't cool at allany particular encounters you'd like to share about these so called "people" that makes you feel that way about them?
>>10738224It became obvious was Supercon last year>Crossplay is always a staple of any good event, this one had almost none, male or female>As a result, almost nobody cared for my outfit much when they love it at every single anime-specific con>Waaaaaaay more kiddies than average>Absolutely zero party sceneThen for the ultimate, a pudgy Soijak comes up to me>Dude I LOVE your costume. Kill la Kill, that is a great show about fighting fascism! Not a lot of people know that!Oh great. So right out of the gates, we got politics, conveniently forgetting all the "fascist villains" are actually good guys and worst of all, tooting your own horn on something very obvious. But that's just the beginning. C2E2 was some straight sitcom shit.>Find the one party, and just my luck hosted by a gull>Talking to him when I say the magic words: Elon Musk>Dude sitting at his computer gets up and starts monologuing about why he hates him, goes off on tangents non-stop for HOURS>You Republican, you Democrat? BITCH IMMA LEFTIST>So this philosopher Friedrich Wilhelm NEECH wrote about what he called the will to power...>Do you know Pachelbel? He wrote this one piece, Canon in D, it's very popular at weddings>You lookin at that skyline? All I see is the Death Star, and I'm Luke Skywalker looking for the port to blow it all upCringe amusement in retrospect, obnoxious in person. Even after everybody went to sleep, he kept going for even more hours the next morning. A real contrast because I was hanging with the embodiment of Right Wing Tranny Squad (another gull) the night before. This dude was the living incarnation of "Sir, this is a party". and also>I promise I won't get political>One drink later>WE NEED TO BOMB THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION I AM NOT EVEN JOKING/blog

>>10738232Excuse me, uh, who are you again? ...Yeah, that's what I thought.

Anyone got the discord link again? Old one expired.
>>10738587Here you are. .gg/YDFSUbj7
>Rain expected tomorrowWell isn't that nice? Hopefully this does not mess up the Mizucon barbecue tomorrow. Even if it does, there's still Hero Hype as a backup and I'm pretty sure the giant unisex maid squad that knows every group I know is going.
So Collective Con was a bust. Literally as bad as everyone said. I gave it the benefit of the doubt because of some friends IRL, but honestly I'm swearing off Jax cons and sticking to Miami and Orlando.>vendor room smaller than the artist alley at Otakufest>no community-made panels, just q&a's with different actors>most artists were in the vendor side and a large chunk of Artist Alley was just StarWars groups and maybe a dozen people selling merchI might go to Wasabi but I'm not blowing money on a hotel room in Jax for this bull again.
>>10740925I'm so sorry you had a bad time. It's been years since I went, so I was hoping it would have improved. Glad I didn't give it another chance. Honestly, Wasabi is kinda lame too, but a little less so. Full of weeby teenagers though, and not really any good panels. Of the jax and surrounding area cons, Ancient City Con is the best ( but that isn't saying much).ACC is one I do every year, even though it's still pretty podunk too.
>>10740950Truthfully it's on me. Everything and everyone said it had been trash in the past, and I'll be honest Jacksonville itself is pretty damn empty. Walking downtown on a Saturday, I hardly saw any traffic except that going to the interstate. It is what it is, but if you're saying Wasabi isn't much better I'll just see about another Miami con.
Well this is rather late, but I managed to do both Hero Hype and Mizucon barbecue.Hype>Venue for Hype is insanely tiny, so it's a good thing I just waltzed in for free>Bumped into familiar faces, as expected>Finally managed to find the huge abandoned area hidden on the second floorBarbecue>Recognized immediately, loads of Iwai people there, but only a few costumes>Sudden gusts of wind make everybody run away>...including a guy who rammed my car in the parking lotNext event: Ft. Lauderdale Con on the 27th
Are there any websites to find a group to just hang out with? Doesn't have to be a cosplay group.Haven't been to an anime convention since I was underage and Chibi-pa was still a thing. Problem is, I don't have any otaku friends to go with.
>>10743765Honestly, your best bets at finding people are either here or the Florida server. .gg/CPqQukAp8u Obviously, it will be a lot easier if you're in a good sized area that has a lot to do (caveat, since Jacksonville doesn't seem to draw in much of a crowd)
>>10743765Unironically, Facebook groups are the best for this. Join a group for the convention you plan to attend and you're immediately in contact with hundreds, if not thousands of people who will also be attending. Lots of people, myself included, use these groups to meet people.I don't know any other place on the internet that can give you that much reach. Groups are pretty much the only reason I haven't deleted my Facebook.
Bumping for two new events to the South Florida roster, with a party in Davie this Friday night and pic related. Would totally go up there, except 60 miles roundtrip for a 3 hour event ain't exactly a great idea. For this lewd event thing I may not be in town. If I am, it's a guarantee. Right up the street from that crazy warehouse rave behind Ft. Lauderdale Airport from last month, too.
http://www.southfloridacon.com/The roster of events I'm likely attending grows ever longer, still. Good God, and I'm sure there' still more I'm missing.
I might be moving to florida within the year. Looks like there are a lot of cons? What are the biggest ones? With a lot of this stuff to go to coupled with the usual florida party and beach shit I'm thinking fun times are on the horizon. Also thinking of cosplaying MP40 from girls' frontline. Will I get kicked out of any florida cons for looking like a nazi?
>>10745245It's a big state, anon. The best I've seen is all southeast where I'm at if that wasn't obvious already. For our giant events, there's Supercon and Metrocon, yet I'm not super keen on either. My favorites are still Otakufest and Anime Iwai.As for your question, well...depends on the event but I'd say it's VERY risky to even consider
haven't been to mega in years, thinking about going again. is it worth or shit?
>>10745245You'll most likely be kicked out if you dress up as a nazi, even if it's an anime character. Florida, or at least the areas in central and south Florida that hold the cons worth talking about are extremely left leaning areas.
>>10745251>>10745793>https://metroconventions.com/policies-faq-main/>Some costumes from anime, video games, and other sources may contain questionable material – there are characters in Hellsing who wear Nazi insignia, for example. If there is a piece of your costume that is questionable, fits under the other policies of the convention, and is an ACCURATE REPRESENTATION OF AN EXISTING CHARACTER, this is acceptable, so long as you are not wearing this costume in an effort to spread hate.
>>10745831Alright. Just letting you know that people will probably be wary around you unless they get what you're cosplaying, but if it isn't against the rules then do what your heart pleases.
>>10745831>so long as you are not wearing this costume in an effort to spread hate>you are not wearing this costume in an effort to spread hate.>in an effort to spread hate.
For anyone that might care about this sort of thing these are the first group of guests announced for TBCC, what do you think of them?
>>10735083Fuck off...that place had a goddam FEZMOBILE which was awesome!
>>10747699never heard of any of them
OP, I was at metrocon last year. Small chance we could've seen each other. Have all my shit lined up to go this year as well. Pretty hype about it desu.
>>10755253Best reason to bump this thread now is that KirbiiCon happened last night and I'm very curious to know how it went since I couldn't make it and it got a ton of attention for some reason
>>10755613Ohhh. Sounds interesting enough. I'm just slowly getting things together for metro in July. Really it's the only big con I have offfor this year I think. So might as well do it up
>>10755613Was honestly so fun and It was PACKED. Was more like a rave than a con and they had live music going on pretty much the entire time in multiple rooms but still would go again.
>>10756029>Was more like a rave than a con>multiple roomsThis is what confused me more than anything. Hentai themed one-night "convention" with rave is just a weird combination I've never seen tried before. Also no doubt it was better than the obnoxious naysayers tried to claim in the actual thread about it
>>10756029>>10756034Sounds super cringe desu
Too bad all the cosplay people in Florida are Miami drama kings and queens. One of the most toxic communities that I ever had the displeasure of dealing with. The community consists of avowed Nazi larpers & chola girls from Miami.Everyone is two-faced and will make up shit. The worst shit is that they actually adopted a sperg and encouraged him to sexually harass cosplayers. They then toss him into the garbage when he inevitably pulls a Chris-chan on girls. If you're a Floridaman, it's better to go solo than network with these spastics.
Yeah, no idea what any of that means. Never had any of these kinds of problems before, gonna keep going anyway. (Sage negated, by the way)
>>10757674Agreed. I travel from outta state and have never had an issue at a Florida con.
>>10758376The only reason I'm not writing that off as entirely fake is someone mentioning a "Florida Nazi cosplay server" to me in passing. The worst Florida con "drama" I've ever seen is the fire alarm being pulled or the ambulance showing up
I've gone to cons here and there but I'm thinking about cosplaying for the first time... Feeling kind of old at 27 butt fuck it. I'm getting more hyped about it the more I think about it. Aiming for Supercon in July (dates moved)
>>10759231If it's something good, nobody's gonna even second guess you're a first timer. Actually scratch that; if people like your vibe, they won't care if it's a cheap costume either. Still, Super is the biggest thing in my area and I'm still probably not going unless I get a 100% confirmation that other people I know are going. Either that or just wander the lobby without buying a ticket. It's a combination of uninterested crowds, lack of attention on anime (both of those are directly correlated by the way), no party scene and worst of all the owners directly fucking over other local events in the area.>butt fuck itAgreed
Not anime related but I’ve went to a few horror and movie ones. favorite experience was fantasm at Halloween in Orlando last year
>>10759231I'm 35 and still cosplay. Just have fun with it
Welp, looking like I might go to Supercon after all. Even though they've gone no mask again (thank God), I honestly still doubt I'm buying a ticket and will just wander the halls because I hate RetardPoop just that much, and the crowds who show up there suck anyway
>>10757600Lol what who was encouraged to sexually harass cosplayers, that's some whack shit.
Anyone have pictures of the megacon wrist band?
If anyone can share the wristbands for Megacon, that'd be cool of you. If anything so we can know what the color is for that day. I'm only going Thursday since it's the cheapest, but I'll upload my wristband when I get it. Fuck Saturday's prices, oh my god.
>>10759233>Either that or just wander the lobby without buying a ticket. You can't get in the convention center without a ticket
>>10764005Yeah this we need that color!
This is Thursday's wristband. They don't seem to be trying. If Fri/Sat/Sun are like this, some people are gonna save some $$$. For common sense sake, assume they're going to be using different colors for the rest of the weekend, so have extra colors on hand.
>>10764247Wow this is so easy. Last time I went we had to Photoshop graphics onto the wristband lol. Lazy af
About to head into Megacon, hope to see some of y’all there; I went way back in the day and met a few seagulls (a phantom pain big boss). If I see any of you, I’ll take a photo for you with my camera.
>>10764528Take a photo of your wristband instead
>>10764542Only Thursday had a wristband
>>10764788Wait, seriously? I noticed on Thursday how all the exits had those dumbass "scan your badges to leave" signs. That is some gay ass shit if they're using that for even the day passes. Weekend passes whatever, but not the day passes.
>>10764790yea they are using passes that scan at entry and exit points. makes sense considering wristbands are this easy to replicate. i lost my badge and they let me leave with no problem though.
>>10696852Which of these cons is considered the most established or gets the most attendees? Pensacon? I'm overdue to go visit Florida and would like to plan to visit a con there in 2023.
>>10764886Pensacon is pretty small. Megacon is the one you want
>>10764886Swampcon is easily the biggest>>10764788Wow. This might take me a little longer to crack...
>>10764886Megacon is just a consoomer con and really lacks a distinct culture. You probably want Supercon or OtakuFest
>>10717119Which con is that?
>>10765287This is the same thing I'm told again and again, so no ragrets I've missed both of the last two. Plus, absolutely no hype here or Discord.>>10765509Huh, I wasn't expecting a response to this so long after. It was Otakufest.
Been working on Neo cosplay for Mizuconpraying my parasol makes it in time
Went to Megacon Sat/Sun. Had fun, first ever con, want to cosplay next time. I think I could make a decent girly boy.
>>10765948i swear that interior is in every FL house, its uncanny. You even have your fire alarm unplugged, 10/10
>>10765984I SWEAR EVERY FIRE ALARM IN FL JUST ALWAYS BEEPS FOR NO REASON!but Yeah that was my old place and it was a show case model for the other places, they happend to make it livable and rented it out lolI was super upset I missed Mega and Super con!
>>10765984Florida has had a lot of growth. They threw up tons of apartments like this especially in the Orlando area. I love in Florida and yea I've been in so many apartments like this.
>>10765985the tiling and paint is the exact same as my place in Windermere - and yeah, the fire alarm is on time out for beeping when I'm trying to sleepyour cosplay looks awesome, so hopefully you do go next yearI'm hoping to have an Edward Elric costume ready for TBCC
>>10766033OOOOOO Edward!if we happen to see eachother lets take pictures and chitchat!
>>10766034definitely! add me on insta if you want, i might actually have makeup/wig questions if I decide to go full into itinsta is sixzeroxvi
>>10766038Fuck my insta is not a thing lolI got twitter? will that work?
I hope mizu is fun
Mizu was great, it was the first time I went and it was pretty big to the point they might need to start looking into a different venue.
>STILL no dates for IwaiGetting pretty worried here desu fampai
>>10771150I thought I was going insane or something. Hopefully something is said by August or i'll just assume it's been cancelled.
How's metrocon looking this year?
any con recc's that are after july? southwest here.
Bump for a truly unexpected surprisehttps://colossalconcruise.com/
>>10771931So far so ok. Got my passes and hotel ready. Only a bit more to finish on my outfit and I'm gtg.Drive down is gonna suck though
Anyone going to TBCC? I'm going with a few friends, they're cosplaying as Nadya/Laszlo, I'm probably going as Edward Elric. Down to meet some 4chan nerds.
>>10778666Probably yeah if my plans with other friends fall through, the voice of Mario, Charles Martinet, is going to be there too so I might even buy a Mario hat beforehand to get him to sign it or something.
>>10778666im going to there or metrocon, cosplaying asuka
Welp, one week till Super. And as much as I'd rather not support the owners, I will be there Saturday. Assuming there's even enough gulls around, I will be open to a meetup whenever. Also pic related.
>>10780307if you see a tall edward elric, it's probably me, say hi. i'm cool.
Anyone going to metrocon? I've been getting burned out of going to conventions anymore. I don't really see that much appeal anymore or maybe I just lost interest.
>>10784113I'm going, but I'm at the point where I just feel really fucking old and out of place. Last year just felt weird.
>>10784113I'll be going, not looking forward to being around all the sweaty people though
>>10784402Same here anon.
>>10784402Same anon that you replied to. I'm 26 soon and I feel like I'm way too old for this stuff anymore.
