What do you miss about anime conventions in the year of Our Lord 2021?

For me, it’s the food.
>>
>>10644839
Without fail, AA. I miss being able to see so many artists, see their faces, find new artists to follow, and buy a shit ton of merch without having to pay for individual shipping. Seeing the merch in person before buying was great too.
>>
>>10644839
Didn't some big anime cons happen already?

I miss nothing because cons are back and I had a great time
>>
I tried birdies. Not as good as Astro
>>
>>10644839
What’s the deal with the hot dog place, someone fill me in
>>
>>10645033
very bad dogs my man, diarrhea-causing dogs and filthy swill beverages, very low quality food
>>
Late night cereal parties at AWA.
>>
>>10644986
Hope okamoto dies. Only stupid weeaboos eat that overpriced bland shit. Fuck the dude running it, he's cringe
>>
I miss being a chad alpha male sigma jojo cosplayer and ora ora and muda muding in public.
>>
Costhots
>>
Con orgies
>>
Just wondering. How old is too old to go to cons?

>>10644986
>curry house is kill
sad indeed

>Astro doughnuts is kill
Eh. Tons of donut places around. There's literally a dunkin and a donut friend in the same zip code.

>Okamoto Kitchen still exists
Literally what? Tons of truck cart places.

Will add Honda-ya izakaya to the list of dead places.

>>10644839
Kind of a rag tag list of LA places.

>come to la
>hot dogs instead of tacos
that's like your own fault

I once had chicken noodles at an animu con, best fucking noodles I've ever had, the chicken was actual chicken, iirc there was a jap dude cooking them

Those hotdogs are a running gag at AX

Someone hasn’t tried their PB&J and Creme Brûlée donuts

Wait, what?!?
>>
I miss getting shitfaced and dancing with pretty girls, Formal Ball at Katsu, or swing dance at Ota.
>>
Buying trinkets from AA that you’ll lose in a few hours and shirts with memes that will be obsolete a month after the con is over
>>
>>10646140
this. best part is getting drunk with random strangers and having cute cosplay girls sit on your lap at the conveyor belt sushi place.
>>
>>10644986
I was fucking devastated when Curry House shut down out of the blue. My friends and I had been regular customers for over a decade and then POOF.

>>10645033
Tons of dinky little hotdog carts swarm the LA convention center. They're cheap and taste fine, but people are rightfully mistrustful of their sanitation. Some people call them "danger dogs" due to the risk of food poisoning. The fear/hate is overblown though. I'd grab a danger dog over Okamoto any day.
>>
>>10646207
>I'd grab a danger dog
But 7/11 is across the street and it’s safer
>>
>>10646382
The line is around the block and the non-prepackaged food isn't actually any safer than the carts. The hotdogs sit out on those rollers all day every day.
>>
>>10644839
Daydrinking with the boys. Was so much fun the last few years.

Made a few gallons of riot juice that lasted a day or two last time.
>>
Food? I miss getting Joe's Italian Ice on the walk to and from Blizzcon
>>
>>10646631
At least you won’t get food poisoning and miss the con as a result
>>
>>10644839
I have never been to a convention in my life, and I probably never will.
>>
>>10645341
>the chicken was actual chicken,
I didn't know American expectations were so low
>>
>>10646769
Typical chicken in canned soup is real, it's just extremely processed.
>>
>>10645063
Remember when they kickstarted an anime, and now there begging for money because they need to do a single repair on their truck and acting like they make no money at all
I have such a strong disdain for them

The one on 6th street? Just walked by it today. Dead along with the medi-american place and the french sandwich place that sandwich it.

>>10646109
Not really a donut or sweets person.

>>10646207
Actually super sad about curry house. A fucking TX company bought it and it turns out their on books accounting didn't account for the use of legal labor vs illegal low cost labor (like every other non-laundering business in the southern hemisphere). So the TX retards decide to kill it off and lose all their investment dollars instead of making it work.

>comes to LA, capital of street food, buys shit hotdogs with shit in them, probably.
The tacos are absolute beasts, if thats not your thing, they have literal mayan ladies cooking their authentic food a few blocks away. its soo inexpensive i feel so bad, they should charge more 2bh. Not into that? theres asian, yuro, etc. etc. absolutely kino, but keep eating trash kek.
>>
>>10646759
you're retarded if you think convenience store food that's been handled by dozens of other customers is how you avoid food poisoning
>>
>>10647698
You do know hot convenience store food is behind the counter, right?
>>
>>10644986
Yeah, talk about a giant middle finger
>>
What’s there to miss when I’m about to drag my friends’ asses to Ota

I miss getting ready with my friends in the hotel room and doing photoshoots together. I miss wandering around with them at 2 am and people watching

>>
>>10646767
Spent the first 30 years of my life like you. Found out I was missing out on a lot. Try it out, don’t live with regret. Hell ask here for good cons in your area to try out.>>10646769
>>
>>10646767
Why you even post in the thread

AX was a special con as it had actual industry guests fucking everywhere and even some big jap artists sitting in AA. small cons are just party cons and havnt been enjoyable since i was 20.
>>
>>10644839
Little Tokyo is always there - you don't have to wait an entire year to eat at a shitty food truck at AX

The reaction of Cosplayers when they see how the photos came out

I don't pretend to be a good photographer - and I use gear older than myself. But when it comes back and everything lines up right it feels good.

I miss shopping at artists alley and looking at all of the cool art people make even if it’s for series I’m not into. I also miss spotting someone dressed as a character I really like and having to make my way across the con center hoping they don’t disappear into the crowd so I can ask for their picture, and how people always seemed happy to be recognized.

I've seen literal grandparent aged attendees at some so I'd say there is no limit.
