>what lolita-adjacent hobbies are you trying to get into?
O-oh...does stalking LM for 10 hours a day not count?
>what non-lolita-esque hobbies are you trying to quit?
When I wear normie clothes, no pants or leggings in public. Also no open toed shoes.
>what media are you watching/listening to/ reading that is lolita appropriate?
I’ve seen everything good a million times. One of my faves is Interview with the Vampire...any related suggestions?
>What are you trying to do to make your environment (home) look lolita-esque?
Oh it’s impossible since I live with a messy man in a basement apt. I try to have fresh flowers at least to brighten it up.
>>
I'm into sewing (machine) but I have done cross stitch and embroidery in the past. I would like to get into ribbon embroidery because of that one dress in kamikaze girl. Maybe making tea blends and sweets would be fun.
I don't really think there are non-lolita-esque hobbies I would quit cause I enjoy them.
I watch a mixed bag of lolita YouTubers although it's a bit hard to stay interested cause some of it is boring. I wish there were just YouTubers who make a variety of content while wearing lolita (not have lolita as the main focus of the video you know?)
I buy some knickknacks from thrift stores that my friends call the "grandma aesthetic" and I collect teacups (not full sets just cute ones from the thrift store).
>>
>what lolita-adjacent hobbies are you trying to get into?

I'm currently trying to get into flow-pressing, listening to audiobooks of children's literature from the 1800s, baking, and perfumes. I want to start writing letters with wax seals and lineless paper to my family members, but I struggle to write straight on lines paper, especially since I try to leave no room for mistakes, my own perfectionism is my enemy. I also want to speak more properly and stop using slang

>what non-lolita-esque hobbies are you trying to quit?

I need to stop eating sugary stuff. Awful teeth aren't kawaii as well as stop swearing as much

>what media are you watching/listening to/ reading that is lolita appropriate?

As I previously mentioned, I want to read more historical and older children's literature. So far I've been listening to the audiobook of Little women, and Daddy long legs. I plan to also listen to the audiobook of Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility. I bought several Moomin books recently, and I plan to read them as well

>What are you trying to do to make your environment (home) look lolita-esque?

I will admit, I'm not doing much to improve my home, aside from the flower-pressing. As of now, I'm simply collecting images on Pinterest for my future ideal home. Hopefully, it will allow me to collect ideas to decorate my house
>>
>>10625448
forgot to mention that I also want to limit my screentime more
>>
>what lolita-adjacent hobbies are you trying to get into?
Flower pressing, crafting, and reading. Right now my attention span is still fucked so I'm trying to focus on short story podcasts.

One day I'd really like to get into glass bead making and/or actual metalworking too, but we're trying to move so maybe when I'm more settled. Those are less lolita related though.

>what non-lolita-esque hobbies are you trying to quit?

This is more for health reasons but I'm trying to stop dinnertime drinking. It's only usually a can of beer or a glass of wine but it adds up over time. I'm trying to limit myself to the weekends now and it's been working out well actually!

>what media are you watching/listening to/ reading that is lolita appropriate?
The Nevers - great historical costume and inspiration for lolita!
>What are you trying to do to make your environment (home) look lolita-esque?
We converted the second bedroom I to a lolita room/workspace and it's super comfy. Unfortunately I haven't had the energy to do much to the rest of the house.

i wish there were more lolita YTers who were more into other hobbies too. i really like wardrobe videos sometimes, but i think it would be cool for someone to mix that type of content into doing other things in lolita.

>>10625442
i don't really relate to the "try to be a perfect kawaii literal victorian girl" thing, but lolita does make me want to improve my sewing skills for making quality alterations and get good enough at crochet to make small accessories. these threads bring out people who sound obsessed with creating a lifestyle aesthetic to be viewed externally rather than developing hobbies they enjoy. kill the observer in your mind.
>>
Quitting hobbies for the sake of fitting a lolita lifestyle is dumb. I'm not stopping my un-kawaii hobbies like metalwork just because I also happen to wear lolita
>>
>>10625498
>metalwork
That's tight as hell. Blacksmith-lita
>>
>what lolita-adjacent hobbies are you trying to get into?

reading more gothic literature, art history, embroidery, historical fashion, antiquing

>what non-lolita-esque hobbies are you trying to quit?

none, i'm not going to stop doing things i like because of frilly clothes

>what media are you watching/listening to/ reading that is lolita appropriate?

vampire chronicles mostly. i've been listening to cocteau twins a lot and i think that's pretty gothic lolita-adjacent music.

>What are you trying to do to make your environment (home) look lolita-esque?

hanging up more artwork in my room, more pastels and antiques. i might display some of my headdresses somehow.
>>
>what lolita-adjacent hobbies are you trying to get into?
I'm getting more into sewing lolita clothes and accessories. I recently gained access to an embroidery machine, so I'm hyped to start using it in lolita projects.
>what non-lolita-esque hobbies are you trying to quit?
none
>what media are you watching/listening to/ reading that is lolita appropriate?
Nothing really. Unless gothic metal music like Paradise Lost counts
>What are you trying to do to make your environment (home) look lolita-esque?
I have a bunch of antique furniture I inherited, which is great, but they're kind of shabby and mismatched. I'm sewing black damask slipcovers for the armchairs to make them a bit more gothic.

OP here, I was referring to bad habits, like smoking, and just referred to them as 'non-lolita-esque hobbies'
>>
>>10625498
off topic, but what kind of things do you make?
>>
>>10625644
IDK from my experience smoking and japanese lolitas go together.

But I get you.

For the past 3 years, I haven't drawn at all. I used to draw a fair bit for fun, but I stopped because I was no longer inspired to draw, and I no longer felt the compulsion to draw like I used to. But, today, I was able to draw an entire piece, despite the fact that even in the past I would just draw unfinished sketches. It was surprisingly good despite the fact that I haven't drawn in 3 years
>>
>>10625652
Art is a skill fueled by the spirit anon. You’ll always be able to create a piece whenever you want to. You just have to want to! <3
>>
>>10625652
Never do commissions anon, it'll kill what passion you have left
>>
>>10625652
Awww anon I'm so happy for you. I've been struggling with the same thing for like 10+ years.
So many unused art supplies, a new tablet, and everything just sits there gathering dust. I wish I had the same passion I did when I was like 13/14. Sure, my art sucked (it still sucks just not as bad lol) but I loved doing regardless. I hope you can turn this burst of inspiration into a whole drawing streak.
>>
>>10625645
Sheet metal sculpture. Flowers and that sort of tacky yard art. Learned to weld on a whim and really liked how forgiving metal as a medium was. I have basic blacksmithing skills too but I like cutting and welding sheet metal more.
I don't wear my brand in the metalshop or anything, but the sewing skills I picked up due to my interest in the fashion might help me make my own custom gear. Finding welding gear that fits women is hard, and I'm seriously seriously considering sewing my own, especially since I just managed to get my hands on an industrial that can do garment leather.
Also someday I'd like to learn jewelry making and make cool gothic jewelry but that's soldering and not welding (and I am extremely autistic about the difference)
>>
>>10625652
im glad!! what'd you draw?
>>
>>10625665
even if I git gud at art, I don't plan to lol. I found going on /ic/ and trying to grind the fundamentals to be very boring desu and effected by passion for drawing. I'm just going to continue drawing badly/mediocrely but have fun doing so

>>10625669
yeah, I assumed that I would probably never draw again, as dramatic as that may sound

>>10625693
It was of a classic lolita playing the violin. I based her dress on Classical Doll and Henrietta Blouse OP and drew her in a bonnet
>>
>>10625442
>what lolita-adjacent hobbies are you trying to get into?
Event planning. Now that things are loosening up I want to host little parties.
>what non-lolita-esque [bad habits] are you trying to quit?
Getting too involved in online community drama. It's no good for the community and it's no good for me, either.
>what media are you watching/listening to/ reading that is lolita appropriate?
I haven't really been consuming much lolita media because of the above. I don't want to watch videos about drama or current events. I'm just tired of getting caught up in stupid shit all the time.
I still keep tabs on lolita social media and try to be helpful where I can.
>What are you trying to do to make your environment (home) look lolita-esque?
Nothing in particular, really. I've been collecting china and crystal for the last few years in anticipation of hosting tea parties, so I have a large collection that is partially displayed.
>>
>>10625448
I don’t know if you want to innately be able to write straight anon, but I usually put unlined paper on top of heavily lined paper so it comes through to act as a guide

Hey sauce on that img anon?
>>
>>10635568
Nayrt, but that was definitely drawn by Riyoko Ikeda.
I assume it’s from Oniisama e
>>
>>10625746
/ic/ is the shittiest place ever possible to get into drawing, I discourage it entirely. There are friendlier communities that focus more into getting better and having fun rather than "git gud or die" mentality.
I spent quite some time there and did badly to my passion.
I made it as a professional little after leaving ic and ic discords, but I was told to work on fundies every single time
>>
do any of you gulls keep a blog or personal website? i've been tempted to make a neocities
>>
>>10635690
Hey, nayrt but any communities you'd recommend?
>>
>>10635692
i started a neocities but... i’m a programmer and i got so autismal about the construction of the website that i completely lost the point of just wanting to blog. i think it’s good for more artsy folk who are nostalgic for old internet, but if u just want to get your thoughts out there honestly go with Wordpress (Wordpress, as far as I know, is open source and does not own the content you post unlike other platforms like blogspot)

i’m going to start a Wordpress for crafting and ramblings and stuff, i love long form blogs. if you want some to read you can look up the lolita blog carnival or check out the Bay Area kei website, or if you want to check out neocities there’s at least 10 under the lolita tag
>>
>>10635690
They do have great resources though
>>
>>10635692
i have a neocities blog but i wouldnt go as far as to call myself a lolita

i'm following a few lolitas and its so cute to see their wardrobes and their thoughts and feelings on each piece

>>10635695
i got stuck on mine too trying to figure out how to write a javascript blog script but i pushed through and now i'm reasonably happy with it (for someone who doesn't actually know JS)

ill follow anyone who posts their neocities and seems remotely interesting btw if anyone wants to share
>>
>>10635790

For straight lines, you could print out a paper with ark lines, then put it underneath your nicer paper and see if you can see through to use them as a guide. We used to do this in elementary school
>>

?

>what lolita-adjacent hobbies are you trying to get into?
Embroidery and sewing! I'd like to make more accesories that go perfectly with what I have. I like making frilly maxi pads and pancake bonnets.
>what non-lolita-esque hobbies are you trying to quit?
I don't believe there are "non-lolita-esques" things. The fashion started as a frilly rebellion, you do you.
>what media are you watching/listening to/ reading that is lolita appropriate?
There are quite a few youtubers that focus on edwardian/victorian/regency fashion and lifestyle. These are my favourite eras (how original, ik) so I tend to also read literature around it. Music is a wild mix of things from kpop to visual kei to metal. Plus badly played piano and guitar by me
>What are you trying to do to make your environment (home) look lolita-esque?
Collecting pretty Pinterest ideas at this point. I don't really want to redecorate my space any time soon (too depressed to plan things in advance). I try to keep decor light and cute
>>
>>10635795
God I wished people used Instagram like a blogging platform like we used to do in the tumblr days, it’s so hard to find and keep up to date with individual blogs :-( I just wish my Instagram feed was full of blog posts
>>
>>10635872
Neocities allows you to follow others and you have a feed where you can see everyone’s updates. It’s not hard to keep up with.

Instagram is so horrific to type anything longer than a few sentences. I do hope that blogging sees a resurgence. I miss the blog era of the internet (and keeping a livejournal lol)

>>10636156

>>
>>10635872

Reading blogs on IG is a slog. I just have a blog where I put my stuff on, plus I can cram more unrelated pics.

go back to tumblr, then. it's still there. Or try dragging people into a new website with you
>>
>>10635795

>>
I’ve been getting into embroidery! What do you guys think about my progress on this blouse? It’s definitely not super clean or anything but I’m still pretty proud of it
>>
>what lolita-adjacent hobbies are you trying to get into?
currently i've started sending letters with stationery and washi tape to friends & for online sales - it's really fun ^^

i would love to get into sewing especially since i'm a tall lolita (170cm+) and it'd be nice to have some pieces i don't have to worry about being too short.

i'd also like to start doing more cute cooking & baking - i wish i was a fan of tea but its so gross to me haha TT i much prefer juices and stuff
>what non-lolita-esque hobbies are you trying to quit?
honestly i don't think any of my hobbies are distinctly non-loliable so i think i'm ok haha - i am trying to get more into shape though. is there a lolita way to work out....i wonder
>what media are you watching/listening to/ reading that is lolita appropriate?
i've been listening to a lot more female soft rock/indie music from the 2000s like the delgados, boa, blonde redhead and vienna teng - it reminds me a lot of old school for some reason? i think it's bc i associate boa and the delgados with anime i watched around the time i started lurking LJ
>What are you trying to do to make your environment (home) look lolita-esque?
honestly my room is pretty boring and kinda gothy rn? but i'd love my room to have the same vibe as like. vkei and metal fans from the early-mid 2000s. seeing their rooms plastered with posters and magazine scans is so inspiring haha
>>
>>10644852
looks cute, I like it
>>
Does anyone here do cake decorating? I think it's a pretty lolita-appropriate hobby. I've been wanting to get into it but don't know where to start.
>>
>>10647584
I used to! Not just cakes, but strawberries, etc. It’s been about five years since I did though.
>>
>what lolita-adjacent hobbies are you trying to get into?
I’m trying go get into crafting accessories & baking, with my regular art related stuff in the mix as well since I’m very on and off about it.
>what non-lolita-esque hobbies are you trying to quit?
Being lazy, I guess LOL. I don’t have a lot of non-lolita hobbies aside from that and watching some dumb bloody anime like Baki.
>what media are you watching/listening to/ reading that is lolita appropriate?
Currently trying to start up Paradise Kiss and soon the Pripara series. Been listening to Bonjour Suzuki and a bit of classical music here and there.
>What are you trying to do to make your environment (home) look lolita-esque?
What I have at the moment is lolita items around my room such as bags and some dresses. My room is kind of cluttered with anime stuff though, so I’m trying to find a good balance with that and EGL stuff. If anyone has any recommendations feel free.
>>
>>10635872
Same anon. I wish people wrote more in their captions. IG announced they want to move away from photos to TikTok style videos so we'll need a new platform for coord sharing and short blog style posts once that happens.
>>
>>10647584
you literally just bake a cake and start there.
>>
>>10625442
>what lolita-adjacent hobbies are you trying to get into?
I want to make more crafts (i got into fimo clay again) to make lolita accessories. Also I need to get a sewing machine, sewing by hand is way too much time consuming.

>what non-lolita-esque hobbies are you trying to quit?
I'm trying to have a more refined speech, but it's not about lolita or being cute, I simply want to be perceived in a more dignified way. Also trying to work on my anger management issues, but I have no clue how.
>what media are you watching/listening to/ reading that is lolita appropriate?
I enjoy immersing myself into victorian times, and learning about it.

>What are you trying to do to make your environment (home) look lolita-esque?
I simply need to keep up decorating my room in a victorian kitsch way, with lots of antiques and custom fabrics, with my tacky designs.

>>10625448
>I need to stop eating sugary stuff.
Same, I completely cut off industrial sweets, I decided that I will only eat nice quality cakes seldomly, when the opportunity present itself.
