General lolita nonsense
>>
>>10620119
I'll start, I can't tell if the lack of early 2010 sweet in my life is affecting me or not, but the new dress from onegaishi is cute? Wtf?
>>
>>10620122
I also don't hate it and am questioning my sanity rn
>>
>>10620122
Maybe its to me cute after looking at taobao trainwrecks, I like it for some reason
>>
Does anyone have any tips for buying stuff online in the U.K?

sorry 4 noob question but post-Brexit tax shit
>>
>>10620166
use a shopping service that will let you mark down the price before shipping
>>
has anyone here bought from Sunflower Seeds lately? I ordered and paid for something weeks ago and haven't heard anything since then...
>>
The person only got unverified on Lacemarket
>>
>>10620222
They’re on break until early June but it would not hurt messaging them to check up, if you haven’t heard anything in weeks. Communication is slow & I will not use them again.
>>
>>10620166
If its marked as gift and is under £139 then you're fine. I was confused too but I'm not being hit at all
>>
>>10620260
I messaged a few days ago and again yesterday but nothing yet - going to give them until the weekend then raise a dispute. They were fine in the past but really not good now.
>>
>>10620307
Gift is under £39 and commercial is under £135. As long as you stay under those values, you'll be fine. So technically commercial is better.
>>
>>10620122
Looks like a lackluster AP release, which for indie is a major compliment. Too bad it's not cotton
>>
The europe tax will be in effect by july the 1st and i want to kms fuck our greedy govs
>>
Had anyone in the UK used the airmail option when buying with bellshrimp ss? If so, how long did it take? I’m worried it won’t get here in time for a meet in July.
>>
>>10620392
I hope everyone who voted for brexit losses their packages in the mail
>>
>>10620415
honestly good luck with airmail - from China its normally 1-2 months.
>>
>>10620424
I just had to pay 70 QUID in customs fees for a package from FRANCE. FUCK BREXIT I hope you all choke on your lidl baguette and die.
>>
>>10620431
Same, had to pay like £80 in fees for a cutsew and some socks from AP Paris :)
>>
>>10620415
Shipping from Japan is very quick at the moment. I think about 6 months ago I have a parcel sent through airmail and it arrived within a few days. Because customs are doing fuck all atm parcels are also really quick once they're in the country.
Is it the Greenwich meet? I hope to see you there!
>>
>>10620440
It’s coming from China, so I’ll cross my fingers and hope for the best. And yes, it’s the Greenwich meet, looking forward to it!
>>
>>10620443
Ah, there's me being dumb and not knowing my SS from each other. IIRC I had a taobao parcel too not long ago and it was reasonably quick, although I think I got EMS
>>
>>10620437
why did nobody think of this when they suggested leaving the EU ffs
>>
>>10620450
They did, but the boomers and Gen-Xers can't think beyond next week
>>
>>10620366
I've had parcels marked as £120 go through fine marked as gift. I've not been hit with customs at all from Japan since Brexit.

I think it might just be really inconsistent
>>
>>10620392
Really? A friend ordered something from Moncler and had to pay £200 for it to enter the country

brexit was a fucking mistake. Hopefully for the benefit of every lolita in the uk, they will come up with an arrangement some time in the future to fix this problem, but i highly doubt they would even care.
>>
>>10620392
be happy that you don't get the new "customs tax on everything no matter the price" that starts in the whole EU with july

Yes. There’s a FB group for Lolitas in Montreal but it’s 70% french.

A lot of people speak English though too, many international students come in and out of the comm.
>>
>>10620449
Good news! I think my shopping service may have accidentally bought the EMS shipping as when I enter the tracking number, the shipping method is described as EMS. Although, it’s my first time using a chinese shopping service and tracking it, so I may have just read something wrong.
>>
>>10620640
wait what?! I didn't know about this
>>
>>10620634
Yeah. I was very anti-brexit, but when we left I did hope that the one thing that'd be beneficial would be customs. I honestly thought that we'd get some sort of trade deal with countries like the US, China and Japan but nothing seems to be happening.
>>
>>10621196
i hate to break it to you but EMS from china can mean epacket or anything that's not SAL tracking.
>>
>>10621198
most sellers stop shipping to the EU over it as the sellers have to register for IOSS and pay the customs tax beforehand

>>10621249
God, fuck the European Union. I need to get out of this hellhole.
>>
>>10621251
if that's true then thats pretty shitty.
>>
>>10621249
> most sellers stop shipping to the EU over it as the sellers have to register for IOSS

Shit, really? I just thought we buyers would have to cough up the fees to the postal office/customs like we always did with goods over 22 euros.

That would fucking suck. But I guess it's not surprising. Tons of people won't know about this change and will refuse their cheap ali packages when they are told they have to pay the tax and the declaration fee. They probably want to avoid that hassle.
>>
It’s because your “designs” are trash. They look worse than a simplicity pattern. You’re probably the laughing stock of your school.

Ofc everyone asspatting in the comments. OP should have posted their designs along with their rant
>>

Sellers who have like warehouses in EU like Aliexpress need to do the IOSS. But for those that do not it becomes the burden of the buyer. My local post has a notification on their website with the info, they just say that as soon as it arrives they will send a payment request for the item.
I do fear that now they have to charge everything, our post office is going to fuck up big time with exchange rates. I can see them read JPY as USD in their stress over the big amount of parcels they have to charge.
>>

There is a lolita who recently graduated from the fashion design program at Pratt and got featured in a Vogue web story for her designs. Wearing lolita has very little to do with being taken seriously as a designer. Being actually good at designing is key.

Do you guys think there would be a market for lolita blouses designed for large cup sizes? I’m going to be learning pattern making soon and have G cups. I was thinking some fellow large busted lolitas out there might appreciate blouses made for them.

I checked the last thread and didn't see anything- has anyone else gotten their stuff from the classical series release?
I won the shoe lottery from the SF branch and am just. Patiently waiting.
I also ordered a bunch of stuff from the Japanese site before then and nothing has moved.

Didn't she have a bunch of drama a few years back about not paying a girl in her comm back or something like that... Remember it being talked about on here. Doesn't surprise me to hear the troubles with her SS, then.

>>10622672
Items normally go up 10AM Monday, Japan time. Ordering from them didn't used to be a pain but ever since Covid they've been really annoying to order from, you can see they have notices plastered up all over the site about shipping and payment.

If you're in the US, they haven't been shipping here because they've still refused to ship by any method other than EMS. EMS to the US is supposedly returning starting Monday, but I don't know if they'll resume shipping right away or not. You might want to email them and ask to confirm because Japan Post is expecting tons of delays with the rush of mail.

Luckypacks usually sell fairly quickly though, so you do definitely want to get your order in pretty quickly after they go up.

That said, there is a review of this same LP dress (the winter version) in the previous classic thread that was not favorable. You might want to check it out if you're looking to buy this.
>>
>>10622699

can you drop a link anon?

i make for myself but im a) an amateur and b) the time and effort it takes would make it cost more or on par with a burando one, which no one would be willing to pay unless it was like really really custom and they’re desperate. anyone with a sewing machine and 3 brain cells can make one with practice, just rectangles!

I need an opinion. I got back into wearing and buying Lolita last year, after nearly a decade of just being out of it. (Lord of being poor/young problems.) Since then, I’ve bought plenty of brand and sold off the collection of Bodyline that made up most of my collection prior.
But every time I see some Bodyline stuff for sale, I instantly get in my mind that it’s cute and I should try it again. Is it worth it? (Follow up question: What are your favorite Bodyline main pieces and how do you handle them and not make them feel ita as hell? I keep looking at these old pieces I had and cringing.)
>>
>>10624144
I’m kind of mad that this doesn’t come in solid black or white. It’s got a cute design but the way the colors match up makes me uncomfortable (despite liking all of the colors individually.) But I guess everything meta does isn’t going to be for me, and that’s fine. (I’m just desperate for some solid pieces lately.)
>>
>>10624377
I only ever bought two things from bodyline because I found egl comm sales cheaper, but other than the boots that crumbled apart when I looked at them funny, I got a pretty sturdy skirt for them I still wear with my burando without looking out of place. But it was also a single color, with no lace, but lots of ruffles. The details are mostly pintucks, embroidery, and layering. It's kind of hard to fuck up with a piece like that. I'm sure if I'd gotten a printed piece or one with lace, I would have passed it along a while ago.
>>
>>10624397
Went looking and found the skirt, if anyone is curious: https://lolibrary.org/items/bodyline-moulin-high-waist-skirt-with-rose-corsage-l380
>>
>>10624377
Tbh I find the quality of new Bodyline to be really bad. All my old stuff is holding up nicely, so I only buy older items secondhand. While Bodylines designs are hit of miss, if you get a good design that is made from a nice fabric it should be alright.
>>
>>10624411
I think what tossed me off so much about the items I had is that the pieces I wanted to keep were a little too small now (it has been 10 years or so), so I sold them. But what I was left with were actually popular items from Bodyline, and they were just... So difficult to coordinate without it looking tacky. Every example photo I got of “good” coordinates were still off. I wonder if I was spoiled by brand so quickly, but I still loved the solids I had. I tried buying fitting solids and they all wound up tacky. I hate that I can’t enjoy something so simple anymore.
>>
>>10624298
>>10624358

I already knew that seagulls ate garbage, but this is pathetic
>>
>>10624377
Echoing that older bodyline is fine. I have that tart dress as a throwaway for normie friends at conventions and it's decent. I've also got a squirrel party from like 2012-ish and it's decent. Their blouses are useful imo, and I actually have had really good luck with their shoes.
>>
>>10624377
IMHO bodyline is just fine as throwaway items. If you can go into it being totally fine with not being able to resell it for much I think it's just fine to use it to fill out your wardrobe, but burando is a much better investment and will likely grow with your style more. Tbh I think every serious lolita outgrows bodyline main pieces, and most outgrow their accessories/blouses. TaoBao has so much variety these days, and better quality so that's where I'd advise you to drop your throwaway cash.

I feel like this is relevant everyday with people who complaining about brands needing plus sized options, but when people mention things like meta, it's clear they only care about AP. (which they probably have no intention of buying anyway, even if they did fit)
>>
>>10624448
i mean, meta and ap are pretty different. of course the people who are satisfied with meta are happy instead of complaining like the ap fans are.
>>
>>10624448
Ngl I love both the brands but Meta does have an advantage of a majority of their current releases being bigger sized. I was able to buy a dress for someone very close to me who had never been able to access dresses like it before because of size issues. I’m so excited for them to see it!
>>
>>10624462
But even when given options that are similar to AP, they still turn their noses up at it. And most of them are newbie lolitas anyway.
>>
>>10624144
this is really lovely.
>>
>>10624475
This is what I love about meta. They take shit that would be ita af if not done just right, and then nail it.
>>
>>10624448
What I find interesting about this is that my indie brand does fully custom sizing, and we actually get a ton of support from plus-size lolitas. We're a little cheaper than AP, but not much and do quite well. I think a lot of the AP demanders aren't actually into lolita so much as screeching about whatever seems like a trendy topic and being dissatisfied with everything. Actual IRL plus-size lolitas have always been very supportive of my brand and put their money where their mouth is, so I personally can't complain.
>>
>>10624436
You’re literally the only one here who hates it
>>
>>10624442
>every serious lolita outgrows bodyline main pieces
This. When your starting out and don't want to go ham, I think BL is actually a good option. You can figure out what colors, cuts and styles are most flattering on you without spending $$$. At the same time, I can't think of single grown lolita who still wears BL on the regular or keeps it for anything other than a throwaway dress. TaoBao is 100% better, go look for reputable brands like Yolanda and get stuff that has a bit more longevity.
>>
>>10624479
Exactly- Which was why I mentioned these people wouldn't buy AP even if they could fit. Theyre more interested in complaining than actual alternatives or solutions.
>>
>>10624464
That's very wholesome. I hope they enjoy the dress!
>>
>>10624503
Even if AP started making bigger sizes, people would still be upset that they don’t fit into their older designs.
>>
>>10624448
To be fair, Meta doesn't usually release the same type of dress AP does. Like their strawberry garden dress is close, but most of their stuff isn't AP-like
>>
>>10624381
Same, a solid black colorway would have been really cute. These color combos are too harsh for my tastes.
>>
What are you all planning for Misako Aoki's birthday tomorrow?

I'm planning on scarfing an ita on her behalf. I really hope this pleases her, I need a good harvest this fall
>>
>>10624479

It's straight up because AP comes with clout that indie brands don't. A lot of those plus size lolitas probably support your indie brand but know they'll never get as e-famous because they'll never have a closet full of AP.

NTA but there's only like two indie brands that do full custom sizing.

>>10626586
I've never modeled for a brand, but I imagine there are so many factors that affect when photo sets are released. the editing time, as well as lining the photo release up with release of the actual products pictured. That shoot could have been from a year ago from all we know.
We all know she has at least one chronic illness she deals with. Grow your empathy, anon.

She posted multiple stories on her insta about this shoot along with selfies with the other models. It;s clearly recent.

Anyone know of any brand shops with normal lace-topped white or off-white otks in stock? It feels like they shouldn’t be this hard to buy.
>>
>>10628228
baby restocks theirs fairly often
>>
>>10628228
last time i checked, moitie on wunderwelt fleur had some in stock if you don't mind cross lace

otherwise if baby is out of stock you can fill out their stock check request form and i guarantee at least one store will have them. also you can ask an SS to check if any of the physical AP stores have them in stock.

sorry idk how helpful that is, but i had the same struggle recently and actually had luck with the last option
>>
>>10628228
Meta also has some in stock
>>
>>10628058
Nayrt but her stories were pretty clear about her heading out to go to the shoot. It’s recent.

As an aside, I honestly feel like she’s making excuses at this point. She’s constantly too ill to work, but has energy to go to tea, lolita stores and dessert shops? Sure.

I didn’t realize people with chronic illness are barred from having fun. I guess all people who are sick must look/act/be miserable at all times to prove it? Come on. EMS literally isn’t shipping anywhere and unless you want to pay out the ass to ship with tenso and forward it with DHL you just have to tough it out.
>>
>>10628489

Why are you defending her? She literally uses Yamato shipping, which is STILL shipping during the pandemic. I'm so sick of people defending her when she hasn't shipped packages for months, but is still accepting orders and is making absolutely no effort to keep on top of them and instead is frittering her spoons away on modeling and parties.

If she cannot keep up, she should close her business and only open again when she has shipped all her orders out. That's being a fucking responsible business.

Vendetta confirmed.
>>
>>10628677

Look in the archives. Multiple people have complained about her before. Complaining about bad business practices isn't a vendetta whiteknight.
>>
>>10628677
nayrt and I've never used her services before but after hearing about how shitty and slow she is while going off and doing other shit for over a year or more now I also kinda hate her and hope she shuts down her business/at minimum doesn't accept any new unsuspecting customers until she provides some sort of update or ships her customers' stuff.

I'm shocked this hasn't blown up to anything bigger honestly, considering Bellshrimp got shat on online for an address mix-up that would have been easily fixed if not for the one person it happened to get sent to, and everyone was talking about responsibility and customer service/professionalism but mintkismet has just been skirting her resonsibility she took ons tarting her own business using illness as an excuse.

Tons of us have illness and have to budget our time and energy or get help or at least tell people what is going on, not just ignore them and anything we are supposed to be doing. I have worked for myself and other people despite dealing with chronic physical illness and mental illness I couldn't afford to get treated. If the rest of us who don't have the privilege of just giving our clients a big middle finger and going off to tea parties can figure it out, she can do, whether that means getting help with her orders from friends/family or refunding people and just selling the items to try to make the money back later if she truly can't ship it right now.
>>
>>10628682
She does ask for help from people and does post about delays. She even upfront says that her illness means she won’t be accepting new ppl.

It’s a vendetta because you are complaining about her doing a job (modelling) as if her every waking second is somehow needed for you weebs to get your stupid dresses.
>>
>>10628686

She actually still is accepting orders though, which imo is irresponsible as she acknowledged she has a backlog. Literally just don't accept new orders so she can catch up. No one is saying she can't model, but she should really then quit this venture because it sounds like it's giving her more stress than it's worth. Trying to turn it around and trying to insult her customers who paid money for her services within a reasonable time period also isn't helping you anon.
>>
>>10628686
I'm not complaining about the modeling and like I said I don't use her service. If she is actually updating about all that and doing her best then that's good, please share THAT info around rather than calling people's complaints vendetta, because I had no idea she was actually at least trying to get help and inform her customers (as I'm not one of them and don't follow her), and that's why I felt negatively about her from all that I was hearing.

If people actually shared true good info rather than dismiss every negative experience as vendetta we'd get a balanced account of the situation rather than just person A saying "I haven't gotten my items/any communication" and then person B saying "fuck off with your vendetta", which only gives us one side.

>>10628678
If there are so many of you who paid ages ago and never got their items, why not make a call out about her and file claims to get your money back?
>>
>>10628711
nta but it's been over a year, they probably trusted she'd deal with it at first and paypal claims have a limited window typically. i'd have asked for my money back by now desu though unless it was an irreplaceable hard to find item.

if it really is a huge problem people should be made aware but someone above mentioned she'd addressed it already somewhere so idk if that would help much. callout posts can't be the solution to everything in life, and some people may be patiently waiting but venting.
>>
>>10628691
Cgl isn’t here for balanced info, always take what you see here with a grain of salt. Especially negative stuff.
>>
>>10628713
yeah, i am one who's patiently waiting but venting. the window for making a pp claim is closed, i could *try* going through my bank but at this point i'm just waiting for covid to be over (lol) because that's her main excuse

it's kind of easy to say "make a call out" but that comes with so much extra drama and i don't have the energy for it. i just want her to get her shit together and mail everything... i don't think she's malicious, this is just annoying and i wish i hadn't placed an order in the first place. that's about it.
>>
>>10628489
Triggered much? I didn't say she can't have fun. But if you're running a business and take weeks to ship and ALSO post about going out all the time and having fun, customers have every right to be pissed off.

Anyone have recommendations on washers/dryers for delicate clothes like lolita? I hand wash most things, but am thinking about investing in some nicer appliances and idk where to start.
>>
>>10629063
Honestly hand washing is your best bet on the brand stuff, but I bought a small tabletop washer and spin dryer so that I could wash them safely at home. I can get you a link if you’re interested.
>>
>>10628716

Normally I'd agree with you but if it's about your items potentially being held hostage for a year, you may want to lend weight if multiple claims are being made. This isn't just some random vendetta 'she's a fatty and she's mean to me irl uwu :(' comment.
>>
>>10629063
Take this advice with a grain of salt, but apparently front loaders are more abrasive than top loaders. Front loaders take advantage of the gravity and the force of the cycle (so tossing your clothes upwards as well), top loaders tend to only have one kind of motion which is just spinning your clothes on the bottom. This makes front loaders better for stain removal and stuff, but probably not something you want for delicates. At least that's what I was told when I was shopping for appliances.
Overall, I never had a trouble washing my lolita stuff in washers. As long as it's in cold water on low cycle, should be okay.

I wouldn't trust a dryer with lolita, because it's basically all the motion that's shaking moisture out. Just hang it somewhere sunny or dry and cool.
>>
>>10629121
the rest of your post is great but i must interject before anyone actually does this, DO NOT HANG ANYTHING ANYWHERE SUNNY

shade is fine
>>
>>10629121
I have a front loader because thats all us EU folks can get easily, and I wash everything on a delicate/silks, 20 cool wash, with regular detergent and just air dry everything. Never had a problem and I wash cottons, poly and chiffons. You can do the pillowcase or bag trick but i don't really see the point in it
>>
>>10629121
I have a top loader and it is fucking terrible. Never again. Yes, it spins your clothing around but the agitator in the middle makes things twist and tangle around it.

>>
>>10629144

I have a top loader and the agitator is fine? My brand has come out all right, it need a steaming afterwards but its pretty much in the same condition .
>>
>>10629931
yeah, same. re: the twisting and tangling, if you put your stuff in laundry bags (they're so cheap, everyone should honestly) nothing will get tangled and it won't be an issue at all.

if you have anything with hooks though, make sure the laundry bags aren't a loose mesh or you're in for a fun time.

this discussion is interesting but idk laundry isn't that deep. just use the laundry bags, mild detergent, color catchers if it has a lot of dye, wash on cold, delicate or light cycle. hang to dry. done it for 10 years and everything is alright. glitter still present, flocking still happy. if the piece is special or you're paranoid, use dryel or something. that's it, that's laundry.
>>
>>10629937
Laundering clothes, lolita or otherwise, is not difficult. Some anon just busted in simping for Violet Fane bringing up Japanese brand wash tags after someone else criticized the quality of their items for producing a fabric belt that fell apart after being (presumably) properly laundered.

Their prints and designs tend to be cute, everyone just agrees the quality of their fabrics leave a lot to be desired.

Sorry for the dumb question, but will the series come online to buy at a later date or is it just available for these few days reservation period? (Trump Cards Alice)
>>
>>10630170
they'll probably have extras added to the store for regular purchase when the reservations arrive, but it might not be every cut/color or in small quanity. The skirt is sold out, the black colorway of both jsks is sold out, and the pink is the only colorway of headbow remaining; so if you want a pink jsk your prospects are good, but if you want a black skirt then not so much. You can use the special request form to inquire about physical-store stock after the reservations arrive, and they might dig one up for you. For example, I special-ordered a jsk once and they were able to find it for me, but the matching OTKs were entirely sold out by then.

I had a seller back out recently because it turned out their friend saw the listing and got pissed because they called dibs earlier (or that was the excuse anyway). It wasn’t even a large sale but I’m still kinda pissy about it and the temptation to leave rude/neg feedback is high.

You should honestly if you win the bidding, that’s yours, you have the right to leave a negative review and mods should back you up
>>

I’m fed up of people being nervous to leave negative reviews for shitty behaviour when it’s massively warranted

It was a $15 accessory and I’d rather not deal with the nuclear fallout in my inbox for leaving their first neg over something that small. If it had been a dress or something larger, then I’d raise hell.

NTA but it really shouldn't matter whether an item is $15 or $300. It's up to you if you want to leave feedback, but regardless of cost, all listings should be taken equally seriously.

How often have you changed your style? For the last 3-4 years I moved from wearing mostly gothic to sweet, and now I feel like I want to sell off all my sweet dresses and dress exclusively gothic again.

When I started I thought I would only wear gothic, but I fell in love and built my wardrobe around classical. In 2019 I started to tend towards oldschool and have been swapping some of the granny kei looking stuff for oldschool pieces since then. Some stuff is hard to pass on even if I don’t wear it anymore as I loved them so much back in the day.

I haven't changed my wardrobe at all since I started, save for getting rid of my shitty handmade pieces that I used to pad my outfits. I'm an autist with very specific interests, so almost everything I've bought can be worn with each other. Feels good man

I’d rather people get the help they need than flail around and act like they know everything

I've always indulged in all the major 3 substyles, but i've had my #1 shift 3 times.

>goth first 3 years
>classic next 10 years
>ott sweet last year

I'm on the west coast, but I got a dress I bought on Friday earlier today.

i was reading a few Chinese lolita articles and realized that they have no idea what classic is supposed to be. one article was close, used a chinese brand classic-sweet coord but the other was way far off, using one of AP's crazy ballgown OPs from a few years ago. the Chinese comm is strange in general.

Aren’t they pretty late to the game in terms of lolita being a popular style over there? It makes sense their definition of classic would be all over the place, especially given their propensity for ott

Chinese lolitas should have even less voice in deciding what the fashion is about than westerners. I'm so disappointed in the mainstream brands for catering to their shit taste

Babydoll and Hawase doll rerun. Wondering if I should get a pink set for the headband since I already have the original pink OP.

Is it me or does the pink color look more reddish than before?
