i've been on a ancient greece kick recently and I've had two greek themed songs on repeat recently (Egee Umi Ni Sasagu by malice mizer and Akuro No Oka by dir en grey). Does anyone know more songs like this?

That'd be dsire, right? All his projects are good though.

use their jp name, if you don't know how to find them that way, you're out of luck. unlike what >>10654081 says they are definitely VK. VK is not a genre of music, it's just a style of rock stage performance in japan that leans heavily on goth/punk/metal musical genres and dress. yousei teikoku has a more mainstream sound but their performances and PVs are definitely VK.
>>
>>10654237
Visual kei is definitely a musical genre, but more importantly it's a scene and subculture, one that Yousei Teikoku does not associate with. Vkei is not a label they use for themselves either. Doesn't really make sense to stick them with a label that they've never used themselves. They are a gothic lolita themed jpop/jrock band. One current member used to be in visual kei bands years ago, though.

Merveilles is a masterpiece.
Memoire DX is Tetsu singing and seems to be love/hate. Tetsu's singing seems to grow on people over time.

>>
>>10666851
Bara no seidou is a dense album that's not structured as a pop album like merveilles was. It has some of the more experimental and intricate works in Malice Mizer's career but it's probably the one that will take the most time to get into.
Memoire is my favorite, just brilliant songwriting all the way through, and Tetsu is my favorite MM vocalist and lyricist by far. If you come from Gackt, Tetsu might seem a bit uncanny at first, but if you like The Cure you shouldn't have issues with his vocal style at all.
Voyage is like a middle-ground between Memoire and merveilles, as it has songs that were written when Tetsu was in the band, as well as new ones written specifically for Gackt.
When it comes to the later era of the band, check out the 3 final maxi-singles (Beast of Blood, Gardenia, Garnet) which are more in vein of the variety and pop/rock sensibilities of Merveilles as opposed to Bara no seidou's more conceptual and slow-burning pace.
You should be able to enjoy all of their material over time though. They're close to a perfect band.
>>
>>10667418
.t Not the person newly getting into Malice Mizer. But yes the person who made comparison to The Cure.

>Memoire is my favorite
Mine too. I listen to it all the way through so often and I don't even realise it's ending each time. It's so good that always over too soon.

What were the songs on Voyage that were from the Tetsu era? I only know of Egee/Aegen
Beast of Blood, Gardenia, and Garnet are so beautiful.

>It has some of the more experimental and intricate works in Malice Mizer's career but it's probably the one that will take the most time to get into.
I agree on that, I personally love the experimental orchestral and operatic elements because they're so different from the past releases (am also a total sucker for Klaha's voice which fits the dark vibe in the most perfect way)
>>
>>10667452
>What were the songs on Voyage that were from the Tetsu era?
Shi no butou and Zenchou, not sure if some other one, but you can find these 2 songs sang by tetsu in bootlegs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AP8I-BMvQr8
Also I was certain Tsuioku no kakera was a tetsu-era song but maybe not... it certainly sounds like it could be a memoire track, though.
Also not in Voyage, but ma cherie is also from the tetsu era, he wrote the lyrics for it.
If you like Tetsu era, highly recommend searching for the bootleg live vids that are around youtube and what not, especially the Tetsu last live is amazing.
>>
>>10667462
I absolutely love Tsuioku no kakera. I love it. I have jogged so many miles to that.
I love it when the bass just steps in and starts walking around.

I've jogged so many miles with Shi no Butou too. There's something about those songs that seems to have more crazed youthful angst and agony to them. I can definitely see them being crated earlier like Tetsu era.

I didn't know that about Ma Cherie.
Zenchou is nice but not really for me when compared to those others.

I like Gekka no Yasoukyoku too. I always feel that song separate in some way but I can't place why really.
>>
>>10667462
Here's another song I really love in a similar way to Tsuioku no kakera and Shi no Butou.

MALICE MIZER / 追憶の破片 / Fragments of Remembrance
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IoJy-5rW-5Q
>>
>>10667476
Zenchou in Voyage was re-arranged by Gackt and made it to be an instrumental piece, but the original Tetsu version has vocals. It's a nice calmer song more in the vein of Eege.
And yeah, Tsuioku and Shi no butou are my favorites from Voyage. After memoire, they didn't do the trademark dueling guitars too often, but when they did it was splendid.
Gekka is great fun, also one of my favorites from merveilles. It was written by Kozi, I guess the closest song to it would be Madrigal from Voyage, it has that same kind of festive tone. I also really love the b-side of the Gekka single, the de l'image version (which is also very similar to Memento -moment rare beauty mix- from Kozi solo).
>>
>>10667477
That one is Tsuioku no kakera
>>
>>10667482
>That one is Tsuioku no kakera
lol it is! I'll give myself a pass. I've had a hard life and tired and busy etc. and there's a pandemic.... amongst other excuses. :3

>trademark dueling guitars
Yes! This is what really drew me into them to begin with (Bel Air) and all of vk after that.

Madrigal does have a similar sort of theme to it now that I listen.

I haven't heard the b-side of Gekka I don't think.
>>
>>10667484
No need to excuse youtself!
Here's the b-side version of gekka
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-C_RNzFy8A
The accordion was played by a famous japanese accordion player named coba.
It also reminds me a bit of the hidden track instrumental version of Apres Midi (also a Kozi song)
>>
>>10667485
Thanks! This is really good!

>instrumental version of Apres Midi
I think I've actually heard that somewhen.
>>

https://youtu.be/uuchMmuf188
>>
>>10667490
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Btx8suOH4dk
there's 2 instrumental apres midi on the uruwashiki maxi-single, the first is just the karaoke track, and this one is a hidden track that's a re-arranged instrumental version.
>>10667507
For japanese synth pop, check out Soft Ballet and Ippu-do.
And if you haven't listened to Depeche Mode already, check their 80s output, pride of mind was heavily influenced by them.

>Pornography by The Cure
I thought this was a crazy idea at first but the more I think about it, you're kind of onto something. The direct visual inspiration for the Memoire cover is Mylene Farmer's "Ainsi soit je...", which is also where they got the title for the song Sans Logique. But sonically, I can hear a bit of The Cure.

The only thing I hear from The Cure is the way Tetsu is using his voice. It has a sort of whining to it.

I can definitely see that album cover being where it came from! That's so similar and it's French too, which they really romanticised.

Gackt might be an arrogant prick, got into arguments with the MM members and publicly dismissed them, but I honestly don't think Mana is that bitter or cold-hearted to not at least thank him for his work back and what he had done for MM back in the 90s, if he really does pass away

Damn that really sucks. Hope he can take care of himself and try to enjoy whatever time he has left if it really is that serious.
Not gonna lie, his star has faded and he probably should have retired at least 10 years ago but he is my favorite vocalist of MM and was genuinely talented and impressive during his heyday.

I hate how he speaks about the members of the band he used to be in, I hate him becoming a pop star, his ego and there are many other reasons a lot of people don't like him, I dont want to go into detail.. I do appreciate his singing (in MM and in some of his solo career songs, like the soundtrack for FF DoC and Texhnolyze ed) and I am grateful to him for his art.

>smelly male pheremones secreting from every pore in your body

Yes. No. No.
I only have the XY and could probably get most guys in your family tree to have to try not to try to fuck me.
>>
>>10672476
Nta but you realise men will fuck anything, right? Looking more like a woman than a more literal fruit with a hole cut in it is hardly an achievement. For example, you immediately went to seducing half of anons family, because men are whores and want sexual attention from literally anyone.
>>
>>10672478
It's their biggest weakness really. But seriously I get a lot of attention and I have no idea what to do with it and how not to get killed. It's a fun life though.
>>
>>10672544
You realise you're much less likely to be murdered than a woman though, right? I think it's about half as likely, the supposed murder rate is inflated by how many TIMs are prostitutes, and obviously murder is then an occupational hazard. And I'm sure you'll use your experiences of potential male violence to realise how vital single sex spaces are for women's safety, right? Right?
Also please realise that transition doesn't help the underlying causes of dysphoria, you're much better off without it. Don't cut your dick off, don't tell yourself you can become a woman or that hormones and surgery is going to make you happy, because statistically they don't long term.

It was Izumi and Toru's acoustic side project. They did a few lives with some originals, some covers, and some Roman Kyuko songs. They announced hiatus.

It would be cool if Sibilebashir and Sex-Android came back, but I don't expect that. Now that Roman Kyuko and Rojirua Peter Pan are both done, Izumi has no project except his YouTube channel where he busks around his beloved Nakano, Toru has no full time project but he does solo work, and I doubt he'll stop working with Art Pop, and of course Sex-Android is just on hiatus. Karin has no project but does support bass for bands sometimes. Tsuyoshi announced his retirement in an interview previously.

In terms of Sibilebashir reforming, there is nothing publicly known that would stop them, and none of the members have been active since disbandment in 2017 as far as I can recall. But that was a disbandment, not a hiatus.

In terms of Sex-Android coming out of hiatus, I would strongly expect it to happen at some point. Yu-dai and Junro are in The Thinners, but they can manage playing in two bands. Other than that, Yu-dai's just got his podcast and his small business where you can go into his office and talk to him about whatever you want. I'd expect Sekuan to restart at some point though.

Holy shit you're too retarded to reply to, but I'll be nice anyway. Yes you'd still have dysphoria with no one looking at you, that still doesn't make you a woman.

https://quillette.com/2019/12/07/are-we-in-the-midst-of-a-transgender-murder-epidemic/ this should explain it. If you actually understood the fear of men that women have (for good reason) you'd know that a man in women's spaces is terrifying, because you know he could rape and murder you and there's pretty much fuck all you could do about it and that yes, this also applies to men in dresses. Don't use women's spaces, they're necessary for women's safety.

Underlying causes, alright I'll fucking spoon feed you since batshit trannies have made this shit impossible to find. Gender dysphoria is the mental health condition that makes you believe that the body "should be" that of the opposite sex. Similarly to how anorexics believe the body "should be" thinner, etc, it's an irrational belief about the body that changing the body doesn't actually fix. Hence things like puberty blockers increasing suicide, and anorexics not being offered lipo - affirming delusions is retarded. The underlying causes are anything that alienated you from your birth sex, most commonly, being a homosexual in an environment where it's not accepted, but it can also be a desire to be GNC, feeling unable or unwilling to perform your sex's societally defined gender role. For me, I became dysphoric mostly to escape being a homosexual, so getting rid of my desire to transition was mostly accepting that I can't change my sexuality.

Nah I wanted to transition more than anything, felt like I *really was* a different person on the inside, thought I'd die without it. But then since I'm not a retard I researched everything before committing to an underreseached lifelong medical regimen, and found that it's statistically not worth it, so I didn't fuck up my body no matter how badly I wanted to or irrationally felt it would help.
>>

>>10672833
It really is like that. Imagine showing it to a child now. It's like a thing from so long ago, yet so close for us who lived back then.
>>
>>10672873
>Don't use women's spaces, they're necessary for women's safety.
This is true but that ship has sailed.
A person could claim to be a cis woman.
A person could claim to be intersex.
A person could claim to be a trans woman.
A person could claim to be a trans man.
All of those would make it awkward and complex as to whether they would be allowed there or not.

My transition had nothing to do with sex. I transitioned and now am comfortable and happy. If I didn't then I wouldn't be here.

I'm sorry you got memed into it or something. That's really sad and I hope you are now happy after transitioning back again.

I doubt it, on the actual CD booklet, it says Mana, and it also sounds like a Mana song with a very heavy metal edge, the sound that he pursued in Moi dix Mois, whereas Garnet, the actual Közi song on the single, actually sounds like something he'd do for his solo career, like Nocturne or Que Sera Sera.

He's been working on that album for over a decade...

Honestly I think he's just gotten kind of burnt out on his music career and it's more of a hobby now which is why he's barely released anything new in years. It's nice that Moitie seems to be doing better and he's finally getting with the times and using social media, but I kind of miss the old days of VK fandom and getting hyped over new M10M albums and overseas shows. Also miss his cheesy old website, not sure if it's still up but the mini-games were fun.

I don't think it's fair to call music his hobby. He has been playing in bands for the past 35 years, and most of the time that was his primary form of artistic output, he has had a prolific career. He may be primarily focused on being a businessman these days, but that doesn't mean the life he has lived up to this point has been relegated to just a hobby.
