Lo and behold, TM goes for $1200 to a chick who's "been in lolita for a year now" and "can and will box for milky-chan". This dress is going in a mildewy Chicagoan washing machine and no one can stop it from happening
>>
I don’t understand. TM sold for $219 just a few months ago. Now $1200.. where’s the fucking logic to what prints go high?
>>
>>10584523
some ppl genuinely don't know or care abt the value of their belongings kek
>>
>>10584523
This one did seem to be in exceptionally good condition and that one gull has been posting everywhere about how much she wants it
>>
>>10584526
She’s not the one who won it though
>>
>>10584526
Agreed, this is in great condition, I saw ones in worse condition 10 years ago. I’m guessing someone was ready to spend their whole stimulus payment if they had to.
>>
>>10584523
Her max bid was the stimulus check. This dress will be back on the market by next year. She put up an OP she's already reduced because no bids, I'm gonna guess she didn't think she was going to pay over $800 for Twinkle Mermaid and was selling that for collateral
>>
>>10584530
I'm saying that she contributed to the demand
>>
>>10584523
I just looked this one up... it was cheap but it had major discoloration that looks like stains.
>>
I have some old kira imai screenprint jsks and im honestly glad i got them at their lowest under $80 even if they're unpopular.
>>
>>10584538
I think the anon said she managed to get some of it out? It's in an old thread. The seller is based in Asia so they might not be in touch with the demand in the west.
>>
The max bid was $1400
>>
>>10584543
these stimmy checks are destroying the lolita secondhand market
>>
What's the point of adding CLOSET CLEANING to your sale posts?
>>
>>10584547
to me it reads "i like this and there's nothing wrong with it but it's clogging up my closet"

but if that were the case they should just put it in the description
>>
>>10584547
To let people know you’ve put many items up for sale
>>
>>10584547
I usually check someone's other listings if I want something small but don't want to pay shipping. So seeing that helps me be attracted to all their posts.

DESU it might just be a holdover from egl sales on LJ - CLOSET CLEANING posts usually meant lots of things leaving in one go and were popular.

I always got a kick out of those "closet cleaning" posts that only ever had like 3 items for sale, though.

happened to see this guy buying a dress on the "recent activities" section
cute and wholesome
>>
I'm convinced that the era of new-litas right now consists mostly of people who buy $1k+ dresses and then offbrand everything else. I'm seeing too many people with Milky Planet, Milky-Chan, etc with shit blouses, socks, and wristcuffs from taobao or whatever.
>>
>>10584522
hopefully these people will spend up their stimmies soon and the market will return to normal
>>
>>10584554

Meant for >>10584552
>>
>>10584553
hasn't that always been a problem? Itas see a pretty but high ticket dress and run out of budget for everything else
>>
>>10584553
That's always been the newbie way and evolution from newlita to full lolita, though. You used to graduate from buying Bodyline and lacemonsters to getting your first brand piece but still using offbrand everything else to finally learning (or affording) quality brand pieces once you could.

It's just that now lacemarket exists, which is somewhat more straightforward and easier to use than egl back in the day (especially in the era of depop and poshmark where newbies understand how to use it), and brand is easier to obtain, and taobao has replaced Bodyline. Overall, not too different a path.
>>
I just saw a story of someone on instagram thanking k8 for selling her the same blouse I bought from her several years ago.
I had returned it because it was in horrible condition (pit stains and the fabric was extremely piled and worn). Seeing it again makes me die inside. I had wondered if she was ever going to try to sell it again. I guess I have my answer now.
>>
>>10584562
That's fair, but I guess it seems different now because people are dropping a lot of money on some of their very first items. It's not like a $50 dress on bodyline.
Personally, the longer I've been in the fashion, the more I have been willing to spend. Spending $1k on your very first or even second dress sounds really daunting though.
>>
>>10584585
I'd say it's still about the same; there are some people who will dive right into brand, especially if they come from money, while others fill their closet with cheaper items.

I really see a lot of newer/younger/poorer lolitas starting off with taobao resellers like Devil Inspired more than Bodyline nowadays, honestly. So many fucking Devil Inspired posts on social media.
>>
>>10584585
I feel like these people will get bored or flounce after awhile as well and then whine about not getting back how much they paid
>>

>>10584679
Nah I’ve been wearing this fashion for nearly 6 years and I still have a couple bodyline blouses. As long as you have the one or two decent ones without the scratchy lace, and you only wear them under JSKs, I think it’s fine lol
>>
>>10584679
I think the bodyline blouses with the old school lace are really nice actually, I still wear them.
>>
>>10584679
The conversation was about newbies. If you're a veteran, then hopefully you know how to tell the workable offbrand from the not by now.

I still have some of their corset skirts and plenty of shoes, it's not like all Bodyline is awful.
>>
>>10584681
Came here to post this what the fuck. They are stained and dirty, want $45 while you can still get them NEW for only $8
>>
>>10584585
Idk why newbies don't just get Anna House. They are perfectly above average quality, and the prices are not worse than Taobao
>>
>>10584705
Because they don’t churn out new releases every week featuring the latest ~edgy~ print. Most new lolitas are edgelord attention seekers who won’t stay in the fashion past a year or two max.
>>
>>10584705
I like them too, but you have to admit their designs are quite outdated and a bit boring. Unless you're building an oldschool wardrobe they don't have a lot to offer.
>>
>>10584711
That's true, but they're perfect for staples and newbies. They have several blouses that work in modern coords, plus old school styles. They're a nice mix for beginners
>>
>>10584702
>stained and dirty
just stained,anon
i feel like they expected some sort of bid war on them since there's no BIN
>>

This makes me want to list something rather rare I own but haven't worn much since I have never been able to find all the pieces I want (jewelry, special AP headdress, socks, etc. have some but not all the pieces), but I would almost feel guilty about it because I feel like I'm scamming someone stupid enough to pay TM prices for the lesser of the two currently popular lucky pack dresses
>>
>>10584585
>>10584595
I've never owned a non-brand dress in my 10+ years as a lolita. As a newbie, I was so terrified of being ita that I went straight to brand just to be safe. (Was still an ita, though)

>>
>>10585132
I’m literally in the same group and this isn’t true lol, she wants to trade her 2009 edition for the 2011 edition because it’s bigger. It’s not like she’s asking for the brand new rerelease.
>>
>>10585216
Doesn't take away from the fact it's obviously stained
>>
>>10585149

I ended up paying a few hundred over retail for a dream dress, Did I fuck up?
>>
>>10585679
Depends. Is it rare? How often is it listed? If it’s a dream there’s no shame in shelling out more
>>
>>10585680
I don't think it's super rare, But I've only seen 1 or 2 listed in the last year. I jumped on this one because it was in super good condition and I had the money. I don't regret it, I just wonder if I should have waited for the market to calm down.
>>
>>10585679
I did the same. I paid like $300 more than it's worth but it also never goes on sale. I'm fully convinced the person who sold it to me had seen my WTB posts and knew I would buy it
>>
>>10585682
Honestly, if it pops up at least a few times a year for less I might have waited, but if you’re happy with it and didn’t break the bank don’t feel too bad about it and enjoy your buy.
>>
uh so there's some lolita being listed on ebay where the seller is in australia. I copped something, but was invoiced by one day in paradise, fyi... uh so buyer beware.

let's see if i get my stuff ;_;
>>
>>10585679
>>10585682
If you've wanted it for awhile I think it's worth it even if you overpay a bit desu. Find some good deals for other things you want less.
>>
>>10585679
I think it’s fine if it is something you really, really wanted. If it is something you do habitually and you’re sacrificing daily necessities to afford it then it is a huge problem.
Personally, I can afford to constantly pay overpriced items every time I feel FOMO or satisfy my dumb urge to collect stuff... but I hold myself back because I don’t want to ruin the 2nd hand market for others and encourage scalpers
>>
>>10585690
That's really nice of you anon, we shouldn't encourage scalping.
>>10585679
If its market value is constantly at that price and you love it, why not? If you look at iron gate it's constantly sold at 2x retail but it's an iconic piece.
>>
>>10585183
nyart i have my dream print in 4 different cuts
>>
>>10585679
This makes me feel a bit better about throwing my own money around. I've gotten to the point where I'll pay a premium price in order to just not deal with the chaotic bullshit that is secondhand lately.
My wishlist has gotten so small anyways. Anything left on it is going to be hard to find and I rather pay a convenience fee now then wait 1-3 years for it to show up at a good price with 50 other people trampling over themselves to get it. Or maybe I'm just numb to everything and want my crap now.
I think as long as we limit our splurging to dream items, we'll be okay. And if it shows up later for less, just forgive yourself. No one can predict the future.
>>
>>10585705
Feels like I wrote this. I recently just overpaid for a Moitie piece because I just couldn’t be bothered with trying to fight or wait for it to maybe appear somewhere on the market again, but I think it’s okay because I’ve wanted it so long. COVID has me overpaying for my dream dresses but I feel like I have a pretty complete wardrobe for when we come out of this lol, I’ve bought like 3 of my last remaining dream dresses this year.
>>
>>10585705
>>10585851
this sort of thing is happening with all types of “collector” type hobbies with some scarcity in it so don’t feel too bad
>>
>>10585705

This, but I have been literally waiting years to get some of these dresses. If a dress is that rare, then yes I will buy it at an inflated price to have it rather than risk waiting another 3-5 years for it, scalpers be damned.

I once bought a dress from rainies and while I don't like buying from her, it was another couple of years before I saw the dress again on the secondhand market, so no regrets
>>
>>10584523
Corona getting to people's head and they're finding release in those sweet shopping addict endorphines now that they're at home most of the time.

It makes me wonder though if jp lolitas are also a part of the sweet boom and the inflation pricing of milky chan? This one hung around for a while, but also was priced higher than I've seen some other milky chan pieces go for recently on jp mercari.
>>
Inb4 poorfags cry about the prices vanilla-chan items just went for
>>
>>10586200
I'm very surprised the bracelet didn't go higher.
Is Vanilla-Chan not that popular anymore?
>>
>>10586131
I'm glad everyone thinks that's the ugliest cut, because it's the one I want and I don't wanna play the 700 the scallop cut goes for.
>>
>>10586203
Have fun looking like a clown.
In all seriousness though, I kind feel bad for people who like the ugly cut more. If you wear it to a meet, people will assume you couldn't afford the original cut.
>>
>>10586204
Tone down the projection
>>
>>10586206
Just speaking the truth.
It's like a salopette - whenever I see someone with one, I assume they couldn't get the JSK or OP. I know that's really biased, but I can't help it.
>>
>>10586201
I guess not, I've seen quite a few vanilla chan's items go for cheaper than expected
>>
>>10586212
Same. I will never understand how Dream Fantasy reached $700+, and yet Vanilla-Chan is fading into the background.
I'm not even huge on cats and Vanilla-Chan is still an icon for me.
>>
>>10586184
The Japanese market isn't the same as the west. I don't think they give a fuck about most old sweet prints including Milky Chan.
>>
>>10586223
Don’t talk about things you don’t know. There’s definitely been a surge there too. Not as intense but you’ll see milky planet selling for like $800 when it only went for $200 or so on the JP market a few years back
>>
>>10586200
I just can’t believe the max bid on the socks was $300
>>
>>10586228
I said most prints dipshit. Milky Chan, Dreamy Dollhouse, Sheep Garden, Milky Berry and similar prints sit around or sell for cheap
>>
>>10586233
Worn once is an exceptionally good condition for socks that are over ten years old, though, and there aren’t going to be many like that left. I can see where the value comes from.
>>
>>10586233
Were you watching the auction in the last minute? It jumped from $80 to $150. A lot of people put in sky-high bids right at the end just so that the timer doesn't run down while they are typing. $300 might have been just been there to make other bidders scramble at the end.
And >>10586244 is accurate. Pink is also the most popular color.
>>
>Have skin condition triggered by detergent
>Usually fairly OK buying secondhand because too many dresses are never cleaned and I can use what I know is safe when it comes in
>Wishlist dress is listed for the first time in ages, seller says in her TOS she washes all her items before they go out
>Buy it and immediately message her she doesn't have to worry about putting it in the laundry because I have sensitive skin and most detergent bothers me
>"Sure, no problem! Less work for me!"
>It comes in
>She definitely washed it and with strong smelling stuff at that
>Get worst outbreak in years on my hands just from holding it up to my nose because I wanted to make 100% sure
>Hurts to type even now
Should I contact her before leaving feedback? My account is years old so she couldn't have thought I was a rando fetishist trying to smell her BO or something. And I've obviously purchased dresses that were washed before shipping over the years but whatever she used was hellish.
>>
>>10586255
How do you wash your own clothes? Do you have a specific safe detergent you use? Maybe washing new purchases in that as soon as they come in would be safer.
And yes, I would let her know that you had a bad allergic reaction because she didn't follow your request and leave a negative review.
>>
>>10586249
They bid 300 right at the beginning though
>>
>>10586268
No, they didn't - Bid history is misleading and only shows the time the first bid was made. LM doesn’t show any incremental bids by the same user.
So basically if your first max bid was placed on the 15th for $10 and you place another max bid on the 20th for $20, the bid history will show that you bid $20 on the 15th, which is kind of buggy. You're probably used to ebay where every bid is time stamped exactly when it was made.
>>
>>10586255
First off, I'm so sorry that happened to you anon!
Please keep in mind, though that they could just regularly wash their dresses.
I pretty regularly wash my brand so it smells freshly laundered and could see a similar situation happening if I sold something to you and didn't even wash it before sending.
>>
>>10586285
This occurred to me when I was reading too. She may be a bitch who purposefully ignored you, but chances are it was already washed before and the scent is just lingering.

This was newly listed and you can only use buyee after 2-3 days after it's listed. It's not necessarily that they won't sell to anyone overseas, more so that anyone not in Japan is always left with the scraps unless they use another SS.
>>
>>10586255
Did you explain why you didn't want her to wash it? I know that might seem TMI but if someone told me not to wash something I would assume they were going to have it dry cleaned, but I would still febreeze it in case it has BO or something on it
>>
>>10586255
Don't leave her negative feedback for keeping her clothes clean.

Dude, a salopette is a totally different garment to an OP or JSK. Most people don't want to coord salopettes the same as they would the full-size cuts. Really weird way for you to be geting on tee bee queue eff
>>
>>10586211
people couldn't possibly want to wear something more casual or toned down. i personally love salopettes and wear them as a lifestyler in casual more normie situations like going out to eat with friends.
>>
>>10586211
For salopettes, I usually see them on shorter fat girls or fairy kei types, both of which pick them up as a first choice item.

But yeah, when the salopette isn't actually a cute cut, then I assume it was chosen as the discount option or as a second choice.

I meant If it's to make customized ribbons for a dress or if it's only the "from set" ones that are allowed.
The reason I've caught this thread at all, is cause all the manhwa artists seem to try to one up each other with the frills and dresses, so the designs interest me. Leaving this thread now, but will come back. maybe after april, maybe in 2 years.

Can you feel it anons? I feel it.

The second-hand market is slowing down. Sales aren't moving as fast as they were a couple months ago, even for reasonably priced items.
>>
>>10586774
It's probably because everyone has probably spent their stimmies by now.
>>
There’s a thread in rufflechat about LM pet peeves and someone’s throwing a hissy fit about 86cm not being plus sized enough when questioned on it. I didn’t realize how many people with waists >100cm are scouring the second hand market
>>
>>10586904
I hate fatties so much, so many dresses sold that have shirring have fatties in the comments asking the max stretch of the shirring. Those poor dresses...
>>
>>10586906
Whenever someone asks me the max measurements of a dress I’m selling I always say it runs really small.
>>
>>10586904
I saw that too and thought it was pretty dumb.
86cm is ~34 inches, which would be an XL or size 15 is the US. That's plus-sized.
Most of these girls are so big that they don't realize that they aren't just plus sized anymore. They're super sized, and at some point, clothes aren't going to be made to fit them. Especially not a random niche fashion.
I'm so tired of them screaming about AP being ~farphobic~. Like no, honey, you just need to accept that brands don't want to eat the cost of making clothing that is exceptionally large.
I'm American and I hate it.
>>
>>10586916
It was the oppression olympics in that thread. So embarrassing
>>
>>10586916
There's technically not really a size 15 US is there? It's usually 14-16, which is the smallest end of plus sized but still an XL and big enough for most healthy people unless you are super tall or buff maybe.

Do so many sellers not understand that LM gives you the winner's paypal info on the listing? The number of times in the past year I've had sellers PM just to wait for my paypal address before even trying to send the invoice is a little weird.

I'd understand maybe wanting to double check the info is correct for buyers with newer accounts, but not for established accounts with a lot of feedback. And many of the sellers also have longstanding accounts, which is even more baffling.
>>
>>10589026
I usually invoice right away but recently after I invoiced someone sent me another PayPal to invoice instead. I guess it doesn't hurt to ask but if you send it to the wrong one it wouldn't really matter either.
>>
>>10589026
I never understood this either. Some LM transactions go so smoothly I get the item and never even have to talk to the seller, just pay the invoice and get my shit, and some the seller has a lot of feedback and yet doesn't see the big green box with my email on the listing page? I do ask people to make sure their shipping info is correct in PayPal when I send invoices to avoid losing protection shipping to another address, but the actual email is already there, I'm shocked so many people don't notice this.
>>
Anyone else suddenly getting pop up ads on LM?
>>
>>10589035
Hmm, odd. For me that feels a little shady, but I guess if a parent or a partner is paying for a certain item it could make sense.

>>10589037
I've had this happen too, where the seller asks for my shipping address *after* I've paid the invoice. I do get that it happens, since there are people who live in multiple places for college or whatever, I think your way of reminding when you send the invoice makes more sense though.
>>
>>10589058
It’s not at all shady. LM unverifies you if you change your PayPal on the site. Easier to just tell sellers to send the invoice to another email than to deal with the LM mods who may or may not even get around to reverifying your account.
>>
I bought some things from closet child. A few days later I got a second Paypal invoice from them for around $15, no explanation email or anything. I already paid for my shipping in the 1st payment.
I paid but I have no idea what it could be for. Did they miscalculate my shipping or something? This is my first time buying from them so I don't know if this is a common occurrence

If you didn't message me at all during our transaction I'd leave neutral or negative feedback. Jsyk.
I hate when buyers don't let me know if there's an issue or if the listing arrived and the only way I find out is through feedback if they bother to leave it.
>>
>>10589200
Can we not start this argument again?

>>10589202
As someone who always sends/replies to messages myself: Get over yourself. As long as there were no issues with the transaction, there is no way neutral or negative feedback is warranted.
>>
>>10589210
Nayrt but not responding/messaging at all IS an issue. There’s a field asking about communication for feedback for a reason. Just entirely being silent 100% warrants a neutral feedback. Maybe even negative depending on circumstance.
>>
>>10589217
Nayrt but seriously...?
When you buy from Target or Amazon online, do you ever expect speak with someone at the company? No.
If someone pays/ships quickly and doesn't send any messages other than a tracking number, I see absolutely no issues. Why do you need someone to play nice and hold your hand?
>>
>>10589210
It is an issue when I don't receive feedback or a response from the seller saying the item arrived in one piece.
Or worse: getting negative feedback when they can message me to resolve the problem.
>>
>>10589219
Do you actually complain when someone doesn't give you feedback?

I present to you… the Saga of Scalperchan. I left out a lot of non-lolita related milk about her personal life that she has posted about on her blog, let me know if you'd like a compilation of that as well and I'll put it on the farm. Happy Easter!
>>
>>10589223
Uh, yes, I know. It's just a blanket comparison as to why online sales don't need any communication other than payment and a tracking number.
I still don't understand why you need someone to make small talk with you in order to give them positive feedback.

The "communication" rating is on LM because the site is extremely basic and isn't coded to know if communication took part in your order or not. So it's there as default. The site giving you an option to rate communication is not your signal to spazz out if they never sent you a message. It's there in case they were explicitly rude or failed to respond to questions. Please use common sense.
>>
>>10589217
LM is notorious for having issues with sending email notifications for their messaging system. Unfortunately it’s happened to me and sometimes I haven’t seen the messages until days or weeks later because of this. Don’t punish someone for a website’s shortcomings.

You guys see the new plus size pandering tags on lace market. The size categories START at fat. Even the smallest option is fat. No wonder burgers have completely lost touch with the size a healthy adult should be.

Wow so you're just an asshole/doing a shitty job as a seller that you don't trust the item to arrive intact or the tracking to work? Or you are selling items with undisclosed damages?

I don't expect anyone to leave feedback for me and I rarely leave feedback for sellers unless they actually ask for it. But if they are doing such a good job I literally have to do nothing but pay and receive my items there's no reason for me to leave them negative feedback out of nowhere, cause there are no issues, and I see that as a good sale. If there was an issue I'd message the seller, obviously, but most people receive their items and the items are fine if everyone was honest, which is an ideal and seamless transaction imo.

What are you doing that so many buyers have problems they are too scared to message you about or just leave in some random negative feedback?

I was the person who posted >>10589037 and as a BUYER, why would I ever need to talk to a seller if they never sent me a message and I paid my invoice immediately? If they send a message I'll reply, like saying thanks if they send a tracking number but I usually just get that via PayPal in an automated email once they upload the tracking number there.

Leaving negative feedback for a buyer for not messaging you when you're the seller and you didn't send a message would be beyond retarded, anon.

If the buyer leaves feedback and there were no issues to be resolved they don't need to communicate with you at all. You have all the info you need. When a buyer doesn't leave feedback I just don't leave them feedback either. Neutral/negative feedback is for when something goes wrong during the sale.

As someone who has had many buyers who don't message me a single time during the transaction, I really don't see what the problem is. As long as they pay on time and don't cause problems, who cares if they never speak to you? If anything, I prefer it that way.

>>10589217
>There’s a field asking about communication for feedback for a reason.
Yeah, for when actual issues are caused by lack of communication.

>I hate when buyers don't let me know if there's an issue or if the listing arrived and the only way I find out is through feedback if they bother to leave it.

Isn't leaving you feedback the same as letting you know the item came in, though? Why is it necessary for people to both message you that it arrived and leave you feedback for it?

NTA but
>if they bother to leave it
Reading comprehension is a useful skill

But the anon is complaining that leaving feedback isn't good enough for them.

I'm pretty surprised no one jumped in at the end for the mint Vanilla-Chan socks on LM. They sold for only $81. I guess pink is a lot more popular than mint?

From what it sounds like, buyers are not leaving feedback

Pink is probably more versatile.

So pissed the sheep garden OP got reserved for someone when it started as an auction. I was ready to get into a bidding war
>>
>>10590178
Then you should have placed a bid on it...
>>
>>10590188
It hadn’t even been up for 24 hours. Got the e-mail notification, went to bid right away but it had already been reserved by then

Anytime restyle-Chan’s shit pops up on the new listing section of LM I wonder if she ever buys stuff because she genuinely likes it or just can’t fit into it and has to offload it

Also lol, there was a Harlequinade OP in red on LM for $215 briefly, I wonder if someone else bought it.
