I really hope all restrictions get dropped in April or May. In Israel 97% of people who are dying right now are people who didn't want a vaccine. It doesn't make sense for everyone to suffer because somebody didn't want medical treatment.
The US is distributing 1,500,000 doses every day right now so we're on track to have most adults vaccinated in May. I don't see why this would need to continue.
>>
>LVL Up Expo is kill

There’s an asshole born every minute.
>>
Probably shit ass Nakakon in Kansas City
>>
>>10554400
>we're on track to have most adults vaccinated in May
This is COMPLETELY fucking false. We'd need to get 3-4 million people vaccinated per day to get to the herd immunity level by May. That's not going to happen.
Restrictions being dropped in April or May is not a possibility. Best case scenario is the 4th quarter of the year, and even that is wishful thinking.
>>
>>10554434
We aren't waiting for herd immunity to drop restrictions. That's absurd.
>>
>>10554436
herd immunity is important, BUT if the current covid rates continue and we don't have some superbowl, valentines, or any other holiday or travel related screw up, we might get cases to 0 or really low. so maybe then we can open up but if people start acting up right away, we gotta do it all over again.
>>
>>10554443
Why would we? 80% of deaths are people over 65, and they're the ones getting vaccinated. If people aren't dying who cares if you get the sniffles?
>>
>>10554328
Youve been using that unfunny picture for like 2 years now for every ax thread kill yourself
>>
>>10554434

Also betting ACEN drops by march
>>
>>10554434
herd immunity isn't the target, if the majority of people who would be the most likely to die of COVID are vaccinated then stuff can go on
>>
>>10554458
Those people will be vaccinated (well, have the opportunity to be vaccinated) in the first wave of vaccinations.
If you think large or even mid sized conventions are gonna start happening after that first wave, you're going to be sorely disappointed. There will be some easing of restrictions (in the lesser populated states in particular), but it's not going to be anywhere near 'normal'.
It fucking sucks, but that's just the way it's going to be. The notion that there will be some dramatic change in restrictions in the first half of the year is nonsensical as the "no cons until 2024" doomerfag mentality.
>>
>>10554454
ACEN will move into Iowa, Kansas or Missouri at best if Illinois Gov continues to fuck and not moving to open up fully.
>>
>>10554467
>Those people will be vaccinated (well, have the opportunity to be vaccinated) in the first wave of vaccinations.
Have you not seen vaccination deaths are starting to spike up due to people taking the vaccine early. People are staying away from it.
>>
>>10554579
I've seen articles about people developing rare blood disorders like autoimmune conditions where their bodies attack their platelets and they brain hemmorage and die. Only supposedly 32 reports, some of which may be repeats, and not all of them died possibly and the ones that are noted as dying are all over 50 or 60. But it's scary because the main issue is people having undiagnosed conditions that would have been signs they should avoid the vaccine because those conditions lead to this blood disorder when given other non COVID vaccines too. It's hard to know if your body has something like that going on when save serious emergencies and COVID a lot of people have been avoiding doctors and hospitals for the better part of a year at this point.

Debating on moving to Florida/Nebraska/Texas. Choosing one of the three.

Good idea or bad idea?
>>
>>10554597
Texas is objectively the better state of the three but if you're moving purely for cons that seems a lil dumb. And we don't need anymore of you faggots moving here anyway.
>>
>>10554597
Florida would be your best bet just head to a small town closer to the city and also be prepare for Hurricane season every year have food, tools and supplies at best.
>>
>>10554602
Blame your Democratic leaders you voted even your Gov Abbot is betraying his own people.
>>
>>10554610
Since when is Greg Abbot a Democrat?

I heard he was fucking over big cities (which he has a history of doing) directly or indirectly by not sending enough COVID vaccine doses but sending weirdly high amounts to more rural areas where people are less likely to get poked anyway. If we don't get cons in Texas again I blame shit like that.
>>
>>10554602
Moving there for cons is a dumb idea, sure but if you’re desperate for a (reckless) weeb vacation, those states are the ones to watch
>>
You forgot E3, OP
>>
>>10554626
He's fucking those cities because they are refusing to open up fully and also the vaccines are making patients more sick than the virus. Seems like the media keeps lying to you.

It maybe dumb but it's surely the best and saving idea for AX.
>>
>>10554664
E3 has been dead for years, this will be the year it finally kills itself for good.
>>
>>10554688
>vaccines are making patients more sick than the virus

Even if every report of severe complications from the vaccine were 100% true with no caveats and we use the most optimistic COVID numbers this is false. I don't think the vaccine is perfect considering the short time it spent being tested and how it was only approved because this is an emergency situation according to the government, and I think the companies should be required to do further third party testing so we gain more info. But it will hopefully stop healthcare workers and weaker people from dying soon enough for cities to open.

Abbot doesn't target big cities because he gives a shot about opening up or people tho. He has done it forever because he hates Dems and cities tend to vote for Dems which is fair I guess. Austin in particular he is shitty to cause UT is there and he's an Aggie. Even though no one at UT has cared for a while about that retarded rivalry since they don't play football against each other anymore.
>>
>>10554443
But we're gonna have screw-ups. Americans are so stupid and selfish that they can't even wear masks correctly over their mouth and nose, and they can't abstain from the hair salon for a month because muh freedoms. Any fantasy you have about a perfect situation where everyone behaves as responsible adults is pure masturbation. Tampa just had maskless partiers after the Superbowl, people are gonna continue travelling and partying maskless for Mardi Gras, spring break, 4th of July, etc.

The cons that were able to run this time last year, Before Covid got /really/ bad will probably be alright this year, but if they can't go on next year.. it's rip

Now for the cons that happened (Well, canceled) during the pandemic (So spring, summer, fall and winter cons) are likely not going to happen this year - So it's looking like those probably will cease to exsist.

I think Otakon (????) is worried and has started a fund raiser. So we'll see

We gotta face it, kids - Cons as we know it likely won't ever be the same again and if they aren, it will be a really long time from now.
>>
>>10556336
Society will not comply and this was never public health and safety this is all about control and power. Like I said if Biden and his administration does this which is less likely you can expect citizens will storm the capital and it will be much worse than the first one.

>>10556744
That seems unlikely given they just secured enough vaccine supply to be able to vaccinate almost the whole country. As long as people don't mind getting poked the events will resume. Especially given that vaccination rates are beginning to outpace new case numbers for once. Maybe all the inclement winter weather across the whole country will keep dumbasses that shouldn't be partying or whatever else indoors long enough for these cases to continue to drop and things can begin to reduce restrictions locally fairly soon.

>mfw you need proof of a vaccination just to buy a con badge
>>
>>10556802
Why would that be an issue? Cons and other entities that focus on entertainment especially have every reason to be very cautious and adhere to protective measures like masks or requiring vaccinations to their completely voluntary and optional spaces/events. They have to play it extra safe so they don't become the "super spreader" (I hate that term though) that leads to spikes in cases and ruin future events for others in the same industry by setting a negative example.

I think something like that would be more excessive than just waiting until things pass to have cons again, but I also see why event planners would want to use an abundance of caution
>>
>>10556744
Like I said they are going to pass anything since vaccines are fault and could cause more deaths than the virus itself. We shall see how death toll will be in the next couple of months.

In a perfect world everyone would wear a mask and social distance, which is unrealistic in a setting with hundreds of people packed like sardines.

Unless the convention plans to have literal mask police going around and kicking people out who don't follow guidelines I can;t see this happening in 2021.

Expect your favorite large con to be cancelled, its the reason why I haven't bothered to by AnimeNYC tickets this year.

Even if cons do come back, the programming is going to have so many SJW bullshit panels covering topics such as tackling stereotypes in anime, identity politics in pop culture, how to further advance LGBTQ in comics and manga. >>10557223

>>
>>10557229
Cons will eventually be back in some capacity as long as society doesn't completely collapse.
I'm not even gonna try to guess when that will be, but there will always be a desire to hold large gatherings of people whether it be for communal feelings or profit incentives.

>>10557235
Cool, you can go ahead and run an anime convention in Iowa then if you think it would do so well. ACen works well because it's by one of the worlds busiest airports and a very large population center.
>>
>>10557240
>Cons will eventually be back in some capacity as long as society doesn't completely collapse.
Society is already collapsing. Whenever it is deemed to safely hold mass gatherings, people will stop going because they don't have the finances and motivation to attend anymore. Cons are moving in the same direction as movie theaters and will be extinct in a few years.
>>
>>10557257
Society has been much in worse than this fake pandemic don't worry we will get this through.
>>
>>10557257
Movie theaters were already being hurt by streaming services before the pandemic happened. They were never going to completely go away though.
There's not really an at home equivalent of an anime con that approximates the experience despite what cons have been trying to do for the past year.

>>10557264
>There's not really an at home equivalent of an anime con that approximates the experience despite what cons have been trying to do for the past year.
Well, we have to make the best out of what we can get. Cons are not a priority as of now, especially if it could potentially affect other people. I won't bitch and whine about when in-person cons go extinct because that's so selfish and offensive towards people who are struggling way more than you and I. This pandemic has affected everyone.

If only Trump were, like, president or something and had power to do something about it. But yea, state governors, over half of which are republican, all just tried to hardest to make republicans look bad.

> Is the "online cons are a perfect substitute, nobody wants to go to real cons anymore" thing bait
Yes, bait. Every sizeable thread on here has to have at least one "no cons until 2023/4/5" doomerfag, and at least one "online cons are the future" person. Sometimes they're probably the same person.
I realize people like different things and have different opinions, but you can just search online and find literally everything you'd see at an 'online con' at any time.
Want to see a panel? Go look on Youtube.
Want to see art or shop for collectibles? Go look on Deviantart or Etsy.
Wat to see cosplay? Youtube, Instagram, Twitter, etc.
There's also no real money to be made from online cons which is why many of the ones that have cancelled recently aren't bothering to have them. Thus, they aren't sustainable and there's no future in them.
I challenge any of the people that pretend to think online cons are so great to intelligently refute any of those points.
They won't, and if they respond to arguments like those at all, it will amount to something like "you're stupid, kys".

Bigger yes, but better - we'll see. This is probably on me for not being in the cosplay scene (I was a stick until the year before rona started when I finally started working out, but then rona closed the gyms down and undid all my great work), but the past few cons I've been to felt less like going to a convention and more like going to an anime-themed shopping mall. I'm more likely to find recommendations from enthusiasts for shows that I'd enjoy by lurking on this site than by looking at things at cons, and the same goes for "anime-adjacent" hobbies that I have as well. Having said that, swap meets are still fun and just about the only time when I actually talk to strangers at cons, so maybe I'm just doing this whole con thing wrong.

Also what >>10557125 said, we've already lost San Japan and MAGFest to "lack of diversity", and more cons will likely follow their lead. The last A-Kon I went to was the 2018 one before they lost the convention center, and there were so many pride flags everywhere that it felt less like an anime convention and more like a nerd version of a pride parade. I think people should be free to express themselves like that since that's what cons are all about, but if it becomes this much about social justice then it's tempting to just leave the con scene behind altogether as someone going there for anime.

must just be one crazy coincidence that the US has some of the worst case numbers in the world.

Things were bad when Trump was in office and things got better when Biden came into office. Almost like one of them is actually better at the job than the other.
>>
>>10558318
I wonder what shape ReedPOP will be in if they have to cancel all of their cons again this year. They've shoved almost all of them into the 4th quarter of the year hoping that restrictions will be loosened up enough to hold them then, which seems to be very wishful thinking. And they haven't even set a date for NYCC yet, which shows they have even less confidence that con will happen.
>>
>>10558686

That was not the case and you know that this all on incompetence on the democrats didn't want Trump to ban China even push for people to hug and to enjoy everything while the virus was spreading.

>>10558689
ReedPop will have to push moving AX and Comic Con to Florida this year if possible. Ron DeSantis is probably gonna give a ton of money ReedPop in order to do this.

This is the best interest to save themselves from losing a lot of money.

Lol. There are so many anti-vax people out there that we're likely never going to hit a sufficient number to effectively deal with this. Vaccine distribution has also been a total shitshow up until this point.
Even with everything not really under control we're probably still going to see more things open back up at some point in the not so distant future.

2022 has a chance to be more "normal" but the virus won't be gone.
I could see small cons happening at that point, but not in the way that they've historically been held. Things are gonna be weird for a while.

People ages 0-60 have a 99.86% change of recovering. This is based on the numbers in Ontario Canada. People ages 60 and up have 80% recovery. Most of it comes from the ages 80 and up with 60-69 being around 97% recovery. 70-79 at 90% recovery rate.
Covid isn't deadly when looking at raw data. We also seen that the deaths in the US were mostly done in Dem states. NYC has their issues of sending sick people to nursing homes causing a high death toll. Most of the dead are coming form old age homes.
Even when looking at Ontario Canada more then half of the deaths come from nursing/retirement homes. With 95% of all deaths being ages 60 and up.

the recovery rate was never the issue, it's that at risk people have to go to the hospital in order to recover which strains the medical system.
>>

Risk people should stay home or advised to stay if they are suffering. This is now their fault or all on the government and politicians who abused their power.
>>
>>10559102
>People ages 0-60 have a 99.86% change of recovering.
thats 360,000 deaths if everyone aged 0-60 in the US got the virus, which, btw, total, nearly half a million have died from it. over 2 million worldwide.
but as they say, the death of one man is a tragedy, the death of millions is a statistic.

I can't doubt that any of these will happen, because Florida. But you can bet that if those larger cons happen in Florida happen in the summer, there will be restrictions.
With that said, I guess every state is going to go through the "open, but with restrictions" phase with cons. Florida will just get it out of the way earlier.

Yeah, that's true, and a reason for some amount of optimism.
However, I think people are looking at those coronavirus charts, and getting way too optimistic just because of how far things have fallen since we peaked in January.
We still have a long way to go. The decline in cases will fall at a slower and slower rate as time goes on. We may very well see it rise again at some point (certainly nowhere near the peak January levels, though.)
I can't predict the future, but I just don't see any way that mid to large size conventions will happen at full capacity this summer.

If it was like normal winter weather, sure. People would be more inclined to go out and spend time in shops and have indoor gatherings.

I grow tired of this anecdote. I guarantee you would have had the same thing even if covid was never reported. And Im sure this isnt the first time anyone in your family has gotten sick. Cognitive bias makes you believe that no one has ever had the flu or cold before 2020.

>>10563237

People die more from eating fatty foods and little exercise, but the government hasn't done anything to stop them there. They just fire focused on this virus from China all of a sudden, from a place that our government has been working at for decades. Hm, suspicious af. What's even more suspicious...

>no flu cases

Surely you see something wrong here. Surely.
>>
>>10563493
maybe people are treating covid as being worse than the flu because covid is worse than the flu.

>500k dead in the US after one year
>"its just the flu bro"

In case you want to pull some "well people for from the flu every year" bullshit, it's true, 12-60k people die annually. But covid is way deadlier and can have long-term effects even after recovery.
>>
>>10563493

You don't know nor understand the difference between chronic and acute health issues. If you did you wouldn't have posted something this retarded.

500k people dead is fact as are thousands of people having lung issues, losing their taste/smell, breathing problems, fatigue etc after supposed "recovery"

My mother died from blunt force trauma in a car accident and they listed "covid" as the cause of death. Fuck you and Fauci dick sucker.

Any idea of when cons won't require face masks? I imagine in some states/cities without a mandate, they might be optional in open air areas, but indoor rules might be different. I'd really rather go to a con where I can see people's faces.

Except no one has shown any long term effects yet.

Btw, the flu and influenza already have long term effects after getting it. So this isn't new.

Not any of the ayrt here but all this sperging about how COVID is no worse than the flu just means we should all be more serious and proactive about avoiding/reducing spread of the flu (which a lot of people were already doing in places it spreads easily like schools and college campuses with trying to make sure people get their shots well before COVID actually became a thing, and in Asian countries wearing a mask when you're sick or during flue seasons (or heck even just when you're ugly that day so no one has to see you) as a courtesy to others has always been common.

People are always going to be nasty or unhealthy. I use to be like you, where I thought I could help people eat better and do more proactive things, but most people are content being slobs. So instead of worrying about others, I just worry about my own health, and help whoever accepts it. When someone says "I don't want to", I just move on. They aren't my responsibility, and they should not be yours.

No one wants your "courtesy".

Go back to /pol/, it's ironic to say thats stupid or propaganda when all your derailing is propaganda.
You need to take a step back if quarantine has made you believe it's rational to believe anonymous strangers on 4chan claiming obama was drinking orphan's blood and travelling people through secret underground tunnels more than anyone who backs up their claims.
Only reason I'm a little grateful cons are dead is because it would end in crazy terrorism at the event in the US at this point.....

Florida cons are requiring masks outside. While you can walk into any store without a mask now without much trouble cons still require it, likely due to how they rely on the public's goodwill more.

Okay, so tell me if you can find any articles that say "we'll survive" or give any other happy news that isn't fearmongering 24/7 about covid. Your types are quick to find another negative post, but you have lots of trouble ever showing any kind of hopeful messages. It's like you love the depression so you surround yourself with nothing but bad news constantly. You're addicted to the attention and virtue signaling.

Let them continue lockdowns because it will be one step closer civil violence between the people and the government that no one ever voted them.

In the next couple of months Momo-con staffers will post "Save Momo-con" charity event for closing it's doors for good. Congrats you all deserve it.

Good luck trying to get homeless people out of convention centers if they have been converted to a shelter. It would be really bad PR for the local governments to kick out the homeless people in favor of your local weeb nerd con. So expect bums to shit, pass, and leave syringes all over convention center grounds for the unforeseeable future.

I doubt cons are ever coming back when everyone just wants to watch anime, play video games, and zoom chat all day.

Someone people need to get a grip. I saw this exchange on fb:

>“OMG I can’t believe someone I know is going to an anime con happening this April in Ohio when the state opens back up! How inconsiderate!”
>“But the next con in Ohio is Colossal in June?”
>“Well no, but the state is reopening up a tiny bit in April!”

So you’re upset that someone is going to an anime con in Ohio in April when the state is gonna open back up but there are no cons happening there in April and the state may only relax restrictions a tiny bit?

I think the main problem is not covid, it's that the con admin are naturally not risk takers and further will follow whatever the government tells them what to do. Which is funny cause our scene, including the music scene, are suppose to be naturally against whatever the normies care about. Instead of being inside, we should all be defying orders left and right with open protests and doing whatever you want. I never seen youth so scared in my entire life. Youth usually went against the grain and took risks.
