No I Love snow fags edition.

Endless days of lockdown.
Vaccines being rolled out.
Cons set to return later on in the year.
>they say

Any plans at ALL for this year, Brit anons?
>>
>>10554189
It won’t happen. Glastonbury leads the way for festivals, and festivals lead the way for cons. And Glastonbury just cancelled until 2022. We’re fucked
>>
This weeks Covid vaccine numbers from the 1st to the 7th is 2,997,639 meaning that the estimated time everyone will be vaccinated has gone from July 11th to June 14th in that time
>>
>>10554205
Glastonbury attracts 200,000. Toko and Hibana attract 250-350. I agree with your logic RE things like MCM, but you can't put much smaller events in the same boat.

re OP: I'm feeling like I should start working on stuff because I'm reasonably confident I'll be able to go to a con this summer, but at the same time, I really can't be arsed to start without an actual date to work towards.
>>
>>10554255
God I hope so I haven't left the house in fucking months and I'm going crazy
>>
>>10554461
Same here anon, I just want to see friends again and have somewhat of a social life. Though if no conventions happen this year I will probably save up to go to Japan instead.
>>
>>10554594
>saved up enough last year to go to japan three times over
>still can't fucking go anywhere

By the time I'm allowed to go there I'll have enough to buy Narita and build a supergreggs
>>
>>10554623
use that money to buy gold coins.

Youll thank me when your fiat becomes toilet paper after lockdown ends.
>>
>>10554205
Glastonbury is end of June. Autumn will be fine.

I'm praying that the Studio Ghibli orchestral concert in August doesn't get cancelled.

This. MCM will happen in October properly with maybe some added precautions but that'll be it. Better get ready for a back to reality homefags
>>
>>10556586

>Better get ready for a back to reality homefags

I fuuuuuucking hope so, even if MCM in that month has already fucked over some smaller cons, but imagine having a vaccine passport to enter cons now lol
>>
>>10556522
Organise your own then up north. It’s not hard, people organise meets where they live.
>>
>>10557571
Yeah tbf anyone can host an EGL UK meet, we sometimes see some in manchester/leeds/shef and I’ve seen CLAM and the newcastle comm open up their meets to anyone occasionally in the past I think?
>>
>>10557551
Probably going to happen. Only way the government will probably allow any activities without social distancing.
>>
>>10554255
Update:
This week's vaccination total from the 8th to the 14th is 3,006,145

Daily cases have dropped from 13,000 to (allegedly) 10,000

I... I dunno, I don't mind In a weird way, I just want to see friends and meet-up, I don't need the stress of dealing with all the mental gears that are involved in a con. Just take a train trip somewhere nice and hang out for a day or two.

I think doing something big will make me too anxious anyway.

I guess Tucky is spending the money faster than he’s selling tickets. With 2 extra years to sell tickets for one event I wouldn’t expect them to need donations otherwise

>>
>>10577602
The people still waiting for refunds probably do. They’ve told the traders they can cancel but they can’t have refunds until the tables have been resold too.
>>
gonna finally lose all this stupid weight and cosplay for the first time in October lads
shit better be open by then
>>
>>10577632
That'd be outright illegal and reportable to trading standards. Do you have any evidence of this?
>>
>>10578204
Yup, I’ve seen the email that was sent to the traders and urged them to report, I’ve got a friend who has been waiting for a refund since last Wednesday too. Considering the refund drama they had last year I thought they’d have sorted themselves out by this year
>>
>>10578346
I have a friend who works closely with trading standards. Can you post a copy (redacted of any personal info obviously) and I'll ask them on their opinion about this
>>
>>10578349
>>
>>10578361
Uh what? How can they not have the money for refunds? They surely would have had put money aside for their venue deposit and paid it before opening ticket and table sales. So where's the money taken from the subsequent sales gone?

For that matter, where's the money gone from their fund-raising drives that have raised several thousand pounds from their loyal members? This all seems extremely fishy to me.
>>
>>10578361
Happy to take thousands in donations but can’t refund starving artists, how pathetic.
>>
>>10578368
They spend the ticket money on themselves as soon as it rolls in. The fundraiser money they even said they were going to use for YouTube videos and things.

If you watch their postponement video he even says that right now they would need to be ordering the wristbands etc but they don’t have the funds to do it.

Idk how he’s expecting to run next year on what will be the slowest year of sales out of the 3.

He best get selling that PS5 so he can get these people refunded. Can’t refund because they have no income but can buy a PS5
>>
>>10578375

This reminds me of Nemacon, and weren't Sunnycon the main instigators behind the demonisation of the organisers of Nemacon for not keeping charity money seperate?

You'd think they'd run a squeaky clean business since they've been throwing shit at any other place that so much as sneezes the wrong way.
>>
>>10578380
Yup, I’m pretty sure they even made a sly dig about NemaCon in a video a while back, probably a behind the weebs one about auctions or whatever
>>
>>10578380
If I recall correctly, wasn't that what basically killed Nemacon off?
>>
>>10578385
Yeah, it never ran again after that, the staff tried to relaunch it as OneCon but that only lasted 1 or 2 events
>>
>>10578375
To all intents and purposes they're admitting that the business has no cash and is effectively bankrupt. At what point does this inevitably explode in their faces?

Does anyone know if Sunnycon is actually a limited company or if it's under Tuckwell personally? If it's the later then seeing Sunnycon implode due to no money next year might be the least of his worries?
>>
>>10578389
No sign of it on companies house so I’m assuming it’s not a registered business. I’m sure he’s said previously they’re not making enough money to have to be registered or something along those lines.
>>
>>10578389

Looks like he should have stayed partnered with twitch and then his minions could have kept donating bits to him.

Nah, once he becomes a youtube star, Sunnycon will be rolling in the money and the "sky will be the limit on guests".

What I said in quotes was legit what Tuckwell said on one of his videos about himself on youtube. He doesn't seem to understand that to be a successful youtube star you actually have to be likeable. Just sad.
>>
>>10578814
Yeah, I remember when they got cancelled last year, he was on twitch saying he was going to have to get an actual job. About a week later it was suddenly ‘we’re putting everything into twitch and YouTube to make this happen!’ then he stepped down from being affiliate with twitch and then quit altogether after admitting 30min into a 3h stream that he doesn’t even want to stream games. If he can’t force himself to play a game he chose then what’s his chances of actually getting anywhere as an ‘influencer’?

To top it off they started that “forgotten footage series” then quit before that had to show how Liverpool really went, and started focusing on tiktok style mashes of cosplay photos they’re ripping from people’s profiles.

There was even drama on Twitter because they reposted someone’s video a few weeks back. Same person who stood up for people about the refunds last year.
>>

How does AL keep winning?
>>
>>10584362
al has to cancel way more cons than these 3 put together... claims they winning
>>
>>10584499
And let’s not forget the bluster of AL constantly suggesting their events are still running, then having to cancel only because the venue refuse to let them run. AL aren’t winning, they don’t give a shit about anything but a payday, they’d happily cram you ALconners in a room for £25 regardless of if any of you would get covid
>>
I doubt you can say anyone's winning during the middle of a pandemic - the only difference is who loses the most.

If the government roadmap goes ahead as planned, those who were going to run this year lose more. If it doesn't and another variant hits causing all of 2021 to be cancelled, then the likes of AL, MCM, Showmasters and Wales Comic Con lose more.

No one wins in this situation.
>>
I think toko is the only con that will run this summer. That's my call
>>
>>10584741
only way that can happen is if a) the government allow it to and any other event or b) they find a way to take everything outside. If you’ve ever been to toko, you’ll be aware they have a few buildings on site that they rent too. So maybe, but it’s not as easy as “it’s camping, it’s fine”

EGX in 2019 was unironically better for cosplay than MCM that same year. Less cosplayers but every cosplayer there was nice and we all had a good laugh without weirdos ruining it.
>>
>>10588565
Just a little sad it moved from NEC personally, but I heard one of the reasons for moving is some companies weren't able to fly their people direct to Birmingham, so they were losing exhibitors, but everyone could fly to a London airport.
>>
Seems the government plans to go ahead with events fully back end of June onward with their testing and passport plans for mass events. If they're trialling football matches in the next month and planning for the Euro 2020 finals to be near or at full capacity start of July, then we're definitely seeing cons this summer onward.
>>
Toko is the end of July, do you really think that they will allow events that soon after the Euro finals test has been completed? They need to wait at least 2 weeks to see if it had an impact

The events will happen. MCM is coming back. But a lot of people I know are crossing their arms saying they won't go to any cons until every last person in the country is vaccinated. Which is fine by me. More work, more money and more space to breathe. Maybe there will be less weirdos and cunts at MCM. Just imagine a Lewisless or Obayedless con.
>>
>>10590142
A win all around
>>
>>10590142
MCM is October, that’s way more realistic than July. If it blows up again it will be obvious by then and will likely postpone. Toko is so close after the Euro finals, which is meant to be the first test of a fully attended event (the earlier matches being restricted on numbers). Is it really going to happen?
>>
>>10590171
Tokonatsu is an event of less than a thousand and set outdoors. Given the number of similar festivals which are planned in August that are intended to be ten or twenty times larger, I'd say Toko is nailed on.

Probably will require vax proof or negative test though.

>>10590319

Realistic approach: The MCM's planned for Lon/Birm will be a utter sham and most likely, the lowest taking of tickets ever, causing it to dissolve and hope for the con surge in 2022 with ALL venues open.

The weirdos and cunts as you brand them keep events like MCM alive, cope on that.

>>
>>10593813
This, MCM has that yankie money now, they are more robust than ever. It will likely be the super local cons that struggle first
>>
here we are then
>>
>>10593257
Your mum. Touching pigs is haram.
>>
>>10593892
Indeed. With all the extra restrictions and likely limited capacities, cons will either need to charge double the price, lose money, or have lots already in their bank accounts.

Which category do you think MCM fall into? They're going no where.
>>
>>10595093
Also looks like AL are sticking firmly to their July restart date as well. Along with Tokonatsu likely sticking, there will be events this year.

Or you could just wait till 2022 and go crazy indoors for another year. I know which I'm doing.
>>
>>10595096
ALcon stands 0 chance of running, if you think for a single second it will you are delusional
>>
>>10595093
MCM will just take the loss and be aiming to capitalize on 14-16 months of convention drought to bring in extra cash. That’s my take.

Smaller evens it all depends on how they run, i know some have overheads that cost them all the time, other events have very little in the form of cash owed and should be fine.

I think the local events are the ones that will be hit hardest, the profit driven ones that are a side hustle/business venture. Sure some of the fan events may struggle, but my guess it will depend on how far they got into running as to if they have to fold. I’m pretty sure i heard old school fan events were started with a whip around to get them off the ground, if that it true, then surely any that struggles may return that way.
>>
>>10595337
its 100x easier to hold a lot of tiny ass 0 budget events than one big shitfest like MCM. Doubt AL would even comply with safety standards.
>>
>>10595757
Looking at the government website, from 17th May events of up to 50% capacity or 1,000 people in at once will be allowed.

Sounds about ideal for AL where they stuggle to fill out their venues normally anyway. If the roadmap gets stuck at that point and never leads to restrictions being removed, then we may even see AL returning with their, what, dozen events planned this year and uh MCM not.

Food for thought there.

MCM is going to be grim but it will absolutely happen at this point unless Boris has us in lockdown by October. Hopefully my cosplays will be done by then. I'm having to build a shed just to 3d print and cut foam.
>>
>>10595874
It’s not “or”, it’s whichever is lower. So half of 600 (300). Not a problem for ALcon as it hardly tops 150 anyway. The language on the roadmap is they “may” allow “sporting events and performances”. Conventions are neither, but it’s ambiguous at best
>>
>>10596221
They also state conferences and exhibitions which is what cons would be classified under legally
>>
>>10596221
Imagine paying money to stay overnight for fuckin alcon. At least the local ALs are a reason to dick around for the afternoon and move on with your life.
>>
Just figured out I can go on Booking.com book one of the really posh hotels for MCM for really cheap and not pay until the day before. Don't even have to pay a deposit. If Boris fucks us about I can just cancel. If not, i'm paying £300-£500 for 4 nights depending on where we go. Last I remember Novotel and that Boat hotel was about 600 to a grand at around the same time in 2019.

Just doing a PSA for the gulls here. I hope me and my friends can get shitfaced on the green again.
>>

Not on the plan, it never states conferences or exhibitions. "Large events" relates to 21st June and they say that they will look at lifting restrictions on them based on the pilot (EURO finals).

Look ALcon will run anyway because it's run by imbeciles, if you want to go to a shit-tier event, then go for it, but I guarantee it will get shut down, so make sure you can get home early if the bobbies turn up.

*Yawn* Yes it does, all there on the government website -

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-organised-events-guidance-for-local-authorities/coronavirus-covid-19-organised-events-guidance-for-local-authorities

"Events that are able to commence from Step 3 (May 17th) include those where:

People are likely to congregate in one area for the duration of the event.

People are likely to enter or leave the venue in large numbers at a similar time.

This could include events and activities such as:

business events such as conferences, trade shows, exhibitions, charity auctions, and private dining events such as charity or gala dinners and awards ceremonies, and corporate hospitality"

Further to that, also on that link -

"All events recommencing at Step 3 will be subject to the following capacity caps:

1,000 people or 50% of a venue’s capacity, whichever is lower at indoor events

4,000 people or 50% of a site or venue’s capacity, whichever is lower at outdoor events"

So, thats all AL events easily running. The government basically confirms they can run and only *hopes* that larger events after that can run in June onward. Put simply, AL events have far more chance of being allowed to run than MCM has. Any event with less than 1,000 people in at once is basically looking good, 4th wave permitting.

Also, if you legit think that any venue would even *allow* any company to run if it was not legally allowed then you're off in fantasy land. I mean, really? Venues don't operate like that, they'd be in even more trouble than AL if they were to allow anything illegal.

Noice!

Anon, you have to read. Also you are forgetting the conventions even smaller than ALcon such as Unleashed and similar up North like Anime Attacks or any other local event they are all still planning to run this year in July when restrictions are lifted. If you want to live inside your mancave all year go ahead. Also there are way more events than just MCM, AL and Koko

Pretty easy to do since most places give free cancellation up until a week before the event. I booked a 3 bedroom apartment on the docks for £1500 across 4 nights and can cancel whenever

Get bent you ALcon shill.

“ Event organisers will need to adhere to the three requirements set out at the start of this guidance. This includes the need to follow the relevant COVID-secure guidance, taking reasonable steps to limit the risk of transmission, completing a related risk assessment, and adhering to all legal requirements, including ensuring that those attending an event do not mix beyond what is permitted by social contact limits.

These social contact limits for permitted organised gatherings will be:

Indoors - rule of 6 or 2 households
Outdoors - 30 people
Organisers should also mitigate risk to public health by controlling attendance, limiting numbers to take account of the space and ventilation of a venue and implementing effective infection prevention and control measures.”

>Does not understand the guidance at all here.
Watching you have a meltdown on here as AL events run this July and August (and indeed other events such as festivals, theatres, football matches etc) and you're stuck indoors on your keyboard will be priceless.
