The upholstery fabric VM release is out. What are your thoughts? Did you get it?
does anyone recommend any lolitas that make lots of different-looking coordinates with a few pieces? I want some inspiration on how to coordinate my dresses in more waysbonus points if they mainly wear dark jewel tones
>>10551045Obvious but Fanny re-wears a lot of her pieces in different, creative ways.
Pics of VM's Valentine's release.

>>10552964Weird, that coat on the right looks almost exactly like MM’s Charlotte Coat OP, one of their last new designs before going dark.
>>10553110Never mind, I’m an idiot. Zoomed in and the Mary Magdalene tag is visible. Does this photo come from VM’s social media or a fan?
>>10553113Pretty sure VM would never publish a photo with an MM item in it since they're rivals.>>10552964The Valentine's dress looks a little boring, even though I love grandma classic. The bib also has a bit of a grey cast to it, but that could just be the filter.
>>10553132I've found VM's 'cimnamon' color tends to have a greyish hue in general>>10551045You might have more luck looking for lolitas the toe the line between classic and gothic, but (from the IG thread) petit_piafrosa.witchadventurelibrarianhousehaunterDarkxdeliriumThere's probably others, but those are ones I follow
>>10553132>Pretty sure VM would never publish a photo with an MM item in it since they're rivals.Well, it’s definitely an MM dress, so where’s the photo from?
>>10553132Why do people think that "rivals" means that they hate eachother not that they are just different brands? There is nothing to support they hate eachother and would never have connections. They make about the same products.
>>10553132It's a mint/sax color, that's why. They also have a brown one with a lighter brown color but it sold out already. It's on the website, btw, it literally says 'chocolate mint'>mfw I lingered too long on this release and it's sold outO-oh well.
>>10553477Mary Magdalene's head designer worked for Victorian Maiden until they had a falling out.
>>10553560how long ago was that?they might be on alright terms now though since some of the staff left VM after the revival
>>10553600Nimura Aya left VM after the turnover, so probably. Who knows. But even disregarding that I think it's fair to say that VM and MM have always been rivals in the sense that they're business competitors.
>>10553560I think rumours like this, like the one about MM's owner's scandal and the one about JetJ's designer working at VM previously, should be taken lightly until there is some sort of statement from the people involved.
>>10553623I'm not sure about the MM stuff, but JetJ's designer mentioned she got into a fight with VM's head designer in an interview.https://www.jame-world.com/en/article/107810-the-tea-party-club-s-5th-anniversary-starring-juliette-et-justine-q-a.html
>>10553628Also I think it's pretty common knowledge that Tanaka-san and Nakamura-san worked for VM before starting their own brands.
>>10553023It's such a meme but that looks like Taobao. JetJ is dead to me now.
>>10553635JetJ actually is taobao, isn't it?
>>10553635It doesn't help so many taobao dresses just download a 12mb jpeg and slap it on a dress calling it a day. This is so sad.
>>10553628Oh dang, I haven't seen this. Thanks, anon!I think it would be cool if we compiled a list of articles about/ interviews with classic brands. If others could throw up articles they know of, I wouldn't mind compiling them into a post!
>>10553639Unironically the Elpress Mermaid dress almost looks better than JetJ's botched rerelease. JetJ cheapened out by cutting the scales/petals bigger and in a lesser amount so it looks like a shitty replica next to the older one. JetJ really went downhill after they got popular.
>>10553693>Unironically the Elpress Mermaid dress almost looks better than JetJ's botched rereleaseI do not like modern JetJ, but I politely disagree with you on this. I don't think the Elpress dress is comparable with even botched JetJ.
>>10552964I barely ever wear the one classic dress I have but I love this so much. Might try and cop it secondhand.

>>10553785Thanks! Beige doesn't look great on me though, I was hoping to get the mintxbrown colorway but I hesitated too much. Oh well.
>>10557396The mint chocolate colour? Wunderwelt fleur has it.
>>10557391And it's still completely sold out... Along with the headdress, and the bear.Guess she wasn't kidding about people not being able to get their hands on stuff.
>>10557406It's been sold out already
>>10555404I really want to touch the dress. What does it even feel like?
>>10557550Like short-pile velveteen, probably?
>>10557550It’s definitely more like the faux suede that sofas are sometimes made of. We established that it’s actually upholstery fabric. Looks nice to me though.
>>10557565It's probably quite nice IRL but from the pictures I can't shake the feeling that the fabric is dusty, like an old couch begging for a good slap.
>>10557406>>10557530Hey anon I managed to get the last one thanks to you! Sorry about not replying earlier but thank you! I also got a good discount because of my low key shopping addiction points and the 10% off so I feel good about it haha.
>>10557628Lucky you, congrats anon!
>>10555397>>10561923Fuck this is so cute. I wish more brands did coats that have hoods.

>>10563636
>>10563639
>>10563633I really wish they had the lighter, more delicate pink they used to have. This one is a bit too salmony for me.
>>10563633Why does it look so much baggier on the models?
>>10564095probably because it is pretty big for VM? At least compared to old vm.
>>10563633I wish I could bring myself to be excited. The lace overlay is really nice, but I'm personally not interested in these colors or such a non versatile piece for coordinating. Their coral color also always irks me.I'd just be happy if they released some boleros/cardigans in more interesting colors.
>>10564096I don't know if baggy clothes are a trend or if it's part of appealing to a wider audience, but I hate that I'm swimming in VM now
>>10564099Just get it taken in, it's pretty cheap and looks better on you than off the rack will. I'm tall so I couldn't fit VM very well before but now that everything is a bit bigger, I can make it work.
>>10564096It's not that much different from this similar release. They increased the bust by 1 cm and the waist by 3 cm among other minor adjustments.https://lolibrary.org/items/victorian-maiden-rose-lace-elegant-op
>>10564103Oh shit now I remember I did want this... in burgundy.Did they run out of burgundy lace or something? That'd be tragic.
>>10564095Kurumi (model in pink) is extremely tiny, like 15-20cm below the dress measurements and also short
>>10563636>>10564202Sort of a dumb question but I was never quite sure, is Kurumi a designer/former designer for VM or does she just model for them really often?Though she looks like she's swimming in it less than the actual stock photos. The white colorway one is especially bad. Maybe she just had a better photo.>>10564097Agreed. Lately it's been a lot of pieces, especially OP's, in specialty fabrics that are a little too extravagant for my tastes or to wear often. I wish they would bring back more items that are easy to coordinate in various daily wear outfits.
>>10564563Kurumi just models for them.
>>10564103vm catering to fatties? :(
>>10564697Believe it or not, their current sizing is still smaller than their 2010 sizing.
This >>10562133 conversation about the state of the classic market in the 2ndhand thread made me curious: a discussion/poll for fellow classic anons:>Which sorts of classic items are you mostly into purchasing currently- collecting older releases you missed out on, or new releases?>What classic brand's items do you buy most often these days (either new or 2ndhand)?>When was the last time you made a secondhand purchase of classic from the western market? The JP market?>When was the last time you bought a new classic release?
>>10565147Here's my own answers...>Which sorts of classic items are you mostly into purchasing currently>What classic brand's items do you buy most often these daysI'm mostly buying IW pieces from the 2010's that I missed on release, lately, but I don't have much left on my wishlist.>When was the last time you made a secondhand purchase of classic from the western market? The JP market? Both within the last week or so>When was the last time you bought a new classic release?Bought on reservation from VM in the summer. I might have ordered some accessories from IW in the last year but they still don't ship to the US and I haven't liked anything quite enough to go through an SS.
>>10565151>Which sorts of classic items are you mostly into purchasing currently- collecting older releases you missed out on, or new releases?I've been collecting Mary Magdalene items of varying ages on the secondhand market while I patiently wait for the brand's return (with the stray VM/IW accessory thrown in for good measure)>What classic brand's items do you buy most often these days (either new or 2ndhand)?MM is love, MM is life (a close second is VM, but only because I keep finding their shoes in my size)>When was the last time you made a secondhand purchase of classic from the western market? The JP market?Western Market: maybe a month ago? The purchase kinda found meJP market: a week ago (my shoes should be in Monday!)>When was the last time you bought a new classic release?VM French Marine back in 2016(?). I tend to not buy new
>>10565147>Which sorts of classic items are you mostly into purchasing currently- collecting older releases you missed out on, or new releases? Both. I think I prioritise buying new because I'm deathly afraid of brands closing down.>What classic brand's items do you buy most often these days (either new or 2ndhand)?VM. >When was the last time you made a secondhand purchase of classic from the western market? The JP market?Western market: 2 months ago.JP market: 3 days ago.I realised I've only bought from the Western market twice in the last 5 years. It's cheaper and easier for me to ship from Japan than from most Western countries, so I rarely look at the Western market anymore.>When was the last time you bought a new classic release?VM Swan Lake Series. I will probably get >>10563633 too if I don't win the Moitie teacup fight.
>>10565147Fun, thank you.>Which sorts of classic items are you mostly into purchasing currently- collecting older releases you missed out on, or new releases?I'm trying to avoid main pieces at the moment, to focus on accessories/auxiliary items. But if it's on my wishlist and/or a good deal I've still been picking up older secondhand items. >What classic brand's items do you buy most often these days (either new or 2ndhand)?Victorian Maiden, by far.>When was the last time you made a secondhand purchase of classic from the western market? The JP market?Western market--earlier this month, but before that it was sometime this past summer.JP market--last week, one major wishlist item + a decent deal since I was already using an SS. And just a couple orders during the fall/summer.there's been a significant price jump in my favorite prices/styles this past year, so I'm mostly riding out the storm.>When was the last time you bought a new classic release?I tried but was unable to get the VM roomwear set either time :(
>>10565147>>Which sorts of classic items are you mostly into purchasing currently- collecting older releases you missed out on, or new releases?Everything but MM especially. I also love collecting items from VM's most sought after florals (eg classical bouquet and rococo bouquet)>>What classic brand's items do you buy most often these days (either new or 2ndhand)?VM just because it's more plentiful, but MM is a close second>>When was the last time you made a secondhand purchase of classic from the western market? I won an item off of Y!Auctions a few days ago.>>When was the last time you bought a new classic release?Swan series, and I'm tempted by the white version of >>10563642 to tailor to my size for my wedding, maybe
Sweetfag passing by and wow this thread is so much nicer than the rest of this board. You guys act normal. Love y’all.
>>10565321This thread is a wonderful oasisI have a discussion question, from what I remember, VM tends to put out Rococo Bouquet items around this time of year (with delivery around late spring). Would you buy them? Which cuts or styles would interest you?
>>10565147>Which sorts of classic items are you mostly into purchasing currently- collecting older releases you missed out on, or new releases?Mostly older releases I couldn't get back when I was a student with no money but I often find myself buying newer releases secondhand I didn't like at first but that ended up growing on me later.>What classic brand's items do you buy most often these days (either new or 2ndhand)?IW, MM and VM. Mostly new for IW as I prefer their current designs. Kinda disappointed in MM's revival as I don't like the Genoise Coat but I'm really excited to see what's coming up next. Both new and secondhand for VM, I'm not a huge fan of their most recent releases but their Preppy Check and Harvest series are some of my favorite items in my entire wardrobe.>When was the last time you made a secondhand purchase of classic from the western market? The JP market?Last week from the western market, though I very rarely buy from it. Around a month ago from the JP market.>When was the last time you bought a new classic release? Two months ago, Renée Dress from IW. Nothing has really caught my interest since.
>>10565147>Which sorts of classic items are you mostly into purchasing currently- collecting older releases you missed out on, or new releases?Lately I’ve been buying a lot of VM circa 2008-2015 that I can find for good prices. Mostly solids but the occasional all over floral. I tend to buy the same pieces in multiple colours often as I am trying to round out my wardrobe with flattering staple pieces.>What classic brand's items do you buy most often these days (either new or 2ndhand)?Most of my classic wardrobe is VM, new and old. I find their stuff fits me the best and is much easier to obtain than MM, so it’s the brand I seek out the most.>When was the last time you made a secondhand purchase of classic from the western market? The JP market?I don’t think I’ve bought from the western market since the sweet boom started and there’s been barely any classic stuff I like circulating, but for the Japanese market maybe 2 or 3 weeks ago? I just got two packages this week so I’m pretty satisfied at the moment.>When was the last time you bought a new classic release?I reserved the swan prince blouse or whatever it was called from VM, but it’s been a while since I bought a main piece I can’t remember remember what it was.On the topic of rococo bouquet that >>10565346 brought up, I only have one JSK of rococo bouquet at the moment and I desperately want to change that, so if they do a big release I’m prepared to drop a grand or so to get a few main pieces. I would really love some long cuts the most though.
>>10565346Rococo Bouquet is love, Rococo Bouquet is life. VM does such a good job with Rococo Bouquet that the cuts I would not want would be so because they do not flatter my body. As for cuts I want, I love a lot of hem, but I would love to see the Long OP (pic related) or the Long Sundress cuts to make a comeback. Also the Rococo Bouquet bonnet! That was gorgeous.
>>10565346Rococo bouquet items make up over half my wardrobe. I would snap up anything new or a rerelease of something if it’s a good cut, but especially would love some accessories like the old hats or, be still my heart, parasols. I’m >>10565212 and still desperate for the RB Roomwear set but have only ever seen one item from it on the secondhand market, and it went for $450ish at the time.I will say while a lot of the classic market is lagging, RB items are 2-3x what they used to be. A few years ago you might find a jsk for $90, but many sell for $200+ now, especially on the jp market.
>>10565346I'm not usually into gentler florals, I tend to like them in dark colorways because light colors wash me out. But I keep thinking about Rococo Bouquet in gray... I think I'd like to own it in one of the just waist JSK cuts, I like the cuts in the vein of pic related.>>10565358I wish Preppy Check had come in a skirt cut! I was surprised at how generous the sizing for that series was, I regret not getting something since it seems like it could work well in a more casually JM-styled way, too.The series I'm regretting not buying the most right now is the horse riding series. I thought I would be swimming in it but looking at the worn photos now I wish I had just taken the plunge.
Hello, I’m new and getting into classic! would this work for a casual coord? I think the shoes make it more punk/oldschool but if it looks fine, thats ok with me. I want to be able to walk around so i feel my choice in shoes might be limited
>>10565601Belatedly realized I dropped my pic, oops
>>10565612If anything, your choice of shoes is much larger in classic that in other styles. I don't feel these shoes work, but I'm not seeing much close to a full coord here. What head/hair accessories are you going to use? Purse? Legwear?
>>10565612This blouse is going to look odd with that JSK. You're going to have a lot of negative space around your neck, and the chest bow on the blouse will either not show and be lumpy, or look awkward. A high-neck blouse would be better.
>>10565622I have this dress, anon. It's my only rococo bouquet piece, but I love it. It's incredibly versatile. I didn't think that when I bought it, but you can coordinate it with so many colors. >>10565612i tried to put together a coord for you. I would remove the blouse bow so you don't have 3 bows going on with different colors like >>10565652 said. also tried to use things you could find easily / were in stock. The original shoes you had don't really work well for classic.
>>10565612I have to ask if there's a specific reason for those shoes apart from you just finding them comfortable to walk in? Are they the only shoes you have? Like other anons said they don't really work, but classic probably lends itself the best to more comfortable, less lolita specific shoes. If you look at normie brands or vintage/historical inspired shoe brands you will find a good variety of boots, brogues, maryjanes or loafer style shoes etc. that would be easy to walk in and go with a lot of classic coords. I recently bought some leather brogues from Clarks of all places to wear with my daily classic wardrobe, and I plan to get them in a few colours. I think the shoes you have picked are too bulky to work with the delicate florals of the dress and make it look unbalanced. Like you said it's a more punk/oldschool style, but neither the dress or the blouse are punk or oldschool. I would go with something daintier.
>>10565650I thoght i would just let my hair down behind my ears but yes I do need to think about accessories and legwear now that you mention it! And i’ll get different shoes>>10565652Thanks this makes sense! I will get a higher blouse and think about the bows>>10565658Thanks this is helpful! I have a better idea what to look for. Yes i saw this dress and thought it looks easy to wear often and coord (well if i wasn’t a newbie). Yes i will get different shoes.>>10565682No reason besides i have 2 pairs of similar chunky shoes coming in the mail and was hoping i dont have to buy more shoes. I like chunky shoes. But yes it makes sense to have daintier ones. I found picrel in my closet that would work better in a pinch. but i think i will look at clarks and get something more mature and classic/daintier
>>10565147>Which sorts of classic items are you mostly into purchasing currently- collecting older releases you missed out on, or new releases?Basically this, I've been trying to catch older pieces. I haven't seen much that I'm anxious to get new for a while now.>What classic brand's items do you buy most often these days (either new or 2ndhand)?VM. First brand I fell in love with and it's my eternal ride or die. I'm starting to hunt for very old JetJ though, and I've been keeping an eye on Seraphim though it's not really lolita.>When was the last time you made a secondhand purchase of classic from the western market? The JP market?Last two weeks for both, hah.>When was the last time you bought a new classic release?Eh, during the big VM closure scare. The stuff since hasn't caught my eye like the older pieces, but I'm hopeful.
>>10565721Old JetJ is such a needle in a haystack... I have a lot of that on my wishlist too and absolutely never see it come up
>>10565147>Which sorts of classic items are you mostly into purchasing currently- collecting older releases you missed out on, or new releases?Dresses which are versatile and kind of understated. VM did a great job doing exactly this in the past 2 years, so this is were my money mostly goes. Also always hunting for versatile cutsews, cardigans and outerwear.>What classic brand's items do you buy most often these days (either new or 2ndhand)?VM for dresses, MM for outerwear and dresses>When was the last time you made a secondhand purchase of classic from the western market? The JP market?Last second hand purchase was a MM Odile Coat 2 years ago. I mostly buy new these days.>When was the last time you bought a new classic release?I bought 5 VM dresses last year.
A few recent photos found from Kurumi.
>>10565883
>>10565861Oh yeah, definitely noticed that. I feel like I’ve hit the sunset of my wardrobe building though, so having this sort of slowdown is fine by me.On a completely separate note, I realized that I don't have much in the way of necklaces that are more classic-themed - I know there are nice ones by JM and possibly some by axes femme, not fond of peppermint fox's neck pieces, so if anyone has recommendations I’m all ears.
>>10565912I've found myself collecting a bit of IW's old jewelry as I'm fond of their (and JM's, on that note) old cast-metal jewelry. Schwarz Schmetterling also pops up from time to time on fril at decent prices. If you're into cameos and florals there are still a lot of nice handmakers around, MyInspiration on etsy has really lovely embroidered floral pieces.
>>10565914Thank you so much for the recs! I had forgotten MyInspiration's name for the longest time and spent forever trying to find them again, they're perfect for what I was looking for.
are you effing kidding mewhat the heck is this price
>>10567480And it's not even the same color as the dress. I really wonder what they were thinking
>>10567480>>10567482jesus. I'm a poorfag anyways so I don't usually buy vm releases but that does seem incredibly overpriced. also, does anyone else feel that their colorway choices have been incredibly lacking recently? they've managed to ruin a lot of thee nice cuts of their recent dresses with these subpar color choices imo

Can we please please please bring back burgundy. I'm tired of coral purgatory.
>>10567565They really be trying to sell that flimsy ass cape for 29k? In this economy?VM what are you smoking.
>>10567585Is. Is it just the ribbon holding the dress together what the fuck.
>>10567591There is elastic under the ribbon
>>10567480$300 for this shamwow and plastic ribbon
>>10567565The OP is beautiful, but not for this price, sizing and material. I'll just save it in my inspo folder and get it 100% cotton from a seamstress someday.
Enlarged the cape from >>10567565 and I think the chiffon isn't plain, looks like there's some kind of lace texture or print on it, or under it, or something.I don't know if that explains the 29k yen price tag. I mean, at least it's not like a bare strip of plain nothing chiffon?
>>10567613I guess the lace pattern comes from the under fabric, anon. Like, the cape is made of lace, and the chiffon fabric is over it. So we are seeing the lace through the plain chiffon.
>>10567613Just for comparison, pic rel cost 30k yen and was released in 2020. Granted, it's a more simple dress, but still. I'm not a seamstress, but the dress seems like more labor and costs.
>wake up to this underwhelming shittime to go back to sleep and dream of good releases...
>>10567618I get excited every time VM releases something and then I see that it's some plain ugly shit.2021 has been disappointing so far but at least I'm saving money.
>>10567613>>10567614Yes, that's exactly what it is. See >>10567565>Outer material: 100% polyester (chiffon)>Lining: 60% nylon, 40% rayon (Russell lace)I still don't think the lace justifies the price. Pic related was 22,000 yen. The tablier is nice though, I might get it.
>>10567565>38,500 yen>PolyesterThey almost had a great spring dress, but then they wanted to play it this way.
>>10567623And this blouse still hasn't sold out. I don't know how they think they will move of those capelets
>>10567625Search up エアドレープシフォン. The product listing that comes up rates it as very thin and rather breathable. >https://yamatomi.biz/products/detail.php?product_id=3435
Does anyone have coordinates with black tabliers?
>>10567605Jesus. ‘One size fits all’ is a dangerous road to go down. It looks so bad and lazy without the ribbon. If you lost the ribbon or can’t find it, then byebye dress.
>>10567630If you lose the ribbon, you should be putting a jsk or an apron over it. Kind of like the Royal Lacey OP.
>>10567605That looks horrendous
I don't really understand why everyone is freaking out about Fleur Garden Chemise OP. It's just a slightly longer version of Juliet Ribbon Ruffle OP in a poly-rayon blend instead of 100% polyester.
>>10567630You know you can just buy a new belt or ribbon right? Pic related, this IW OP also has an ugly elasticated and loose waistline underneath the belt. I prefer a more tailored fit myself but this is far from the first time brands have done this.
>>10567659Idk people were also freaking out over the witch's tea release even though VM had also used the same fabric before. I think cgl in general tends toward negativity and venting. I have a feeling I may get it despite my misgivings but we'll see
>>10567632>>10567662It’s the principle of the thing. Obviously you can buy a new ribbon. but I hate the fact that the dress 100% depends on the ribbon, or having an apron or just something to hide the shirring. And it looks just alright. I dislike all the dresses like this, I just hadn’t followed new releases outside of the random cgl post. so it may be my bias. Give me a tailored waist any day ;_;
>>10567669Honestly for most dresses both in and out of lolita fashion, a belt just helps define my waist more lolita or not, so it doesn't really matter in the end, I'll probably end up looking for a ribbon even if the dress doesn't call for it.
>>10567659>Juliet Ribbon RuffleWe cannot buy Juliet Ribbon Ruffle right now.
>>10567673Thats true, I do always have something there at my waist even if its the attached ribbon. I think my issue is, I’m scared that vm will just be lazy and keep make more one size fits all dresses. They have really great fitted tailoring. I’m just not a fan of the gathered material look in the front (for shirring) and it seems this whole collection is lackluster compared to past releases. I mean it is still cute. I would wear it to a garden, but not spend $$$ on it.Roccoco bouquet part X, when? ;_;
>>10567682I don't know how to say this, but I swear I thought I saw them say they were running out at one point. Rococo bouquet is a yuwa fabric. I'll try to look up to see if there's any in stock when my internet is better.
>>10567682You're blowing this out of proportion. Of the 30-ish dress releases from last year, only 2 were "free size". And so far this has been the only non-fitted dress they've released this year. I'd be way more concerned if they released several sack dresses in a row.>>10567684They definitely mentioned running out of the greige (best colourway RIP).
>>10567686Oh thats good to hear! I wasn’t following new releases but the last two i saw here had the shirring thing so I got a bit anxious. Plus every other brand release i saw here was also meh lately, besides the mary magdalene one. And maybe bears chocolaterie socks.>>10567684Like, running out of all yuwa fabric? Is there something wrong with the yuwa fabric producers
>>10567689No running out of rococo bouquet. >>10567686Ahhh that would make sense. Too bad, that is also my favorite color agh.
https://yuwafabrics.e-biss.jp/sys_shop/pc_shop/meisai.php?code=625618#top_02Speaking of yuwa, looks like a rose basket rerelease could have been possible albeit slightly different colors>>10567686I second greige is the best color..
>>10567565Ivory and navy OP swatches whenI feel like I might love it navy, or it will go terribly
>>10567565I was momentarily worried about having to get the tablier and then realized that I have two of them that are near identical to this one. I'm with >>10567562, I wanted the cut of the lady long dress/christmas dress but motherfucker the color choices suck. I'm also assblasted that the cutest bodice designs have the laziest hem finishes.
>>10567565God I love VM but this is ugly. The elastic waist does not look good. It might fly with other brands but people buy VM for tailoring, no one wants an elasticated waist. Imagine if the dress was all cotton and the bust was gathered into a waistband instead. It would be so pretty! But they give us this, the fuck? Also that cheap ass gift wrap looking ribbon on the cape, what was the reason? I desperately want to support them and buy new but every release like this just drives me more towards buying old shit instead.
Are there any decent quality indie brands for classic? I guess there is jane marple sort of. but they don’t have too many pieces without slapping a bunch of teacups and giant flowers on it or something
>>10567796Jane marple isn't an indie brand wtf.
>>10567798Shit i meant indie and other brands not vm/iw/mmI’m trying to branch out
>>10567803Ok. JM was there before any of the brands mentioned were even founded. You should probably get acquainfed up eith lolita history -fyeahlolita has a good blog post on it.I personally like millefleurs. LotV has nice classic print releases too.
>>10567805>Acquainted with lolita historyWow phoneposting fucked up for me today, apologiesAlso of note is that despite its relative obscurity here, it is very popular in Japan.
I can't help feeling something's just off with VM ever since their comeback. The colours, the lack of detailing, the lackluster accessories. Is it just me? I miss their corsages.
>>10567699I want to believe, anon
>>10567805>>10567807Damn I didn’t know that about jm! Thats pretty cool. They might have some older stuff i might like then! Their recent things have too much going on for me but i do have an ice cream sundae shirt from them that is nice.I’ll def check that tumblr and also millefleurs and lotv.
>>10567810It’s not just you, they’ve had some great releases since the revival (preppy check, lady bloom ect.) but they’ve also had a lot of misses. I feel like there are less intricate details and fabric manipulations than before, and their choices in fabrics and colours are always a bit strange, especially that coral they keep using. It makes me wonder if there’s something going on with their suppliers making it hard for them to find certain things they used to have, or if the designers just genuinely think this stuff is what people want?
>>10567793Ngl I almost like it but would’ve strongly preferred unshirred in front, fully elasticated back waist like AATP did recently
>>10567803VM, MM, and JetJ are the only classic brands that matter. There's no point trying to branch out, except maybe for accessories.
>>10567617Regret not buying this, it's simple perfection.>>10567686>They definitely mentioned running out of the greige (best colourway RIP).Noooooooo>>10567753Same, I actually think I like this dress but I would only buy in navy, so...>>10567810>>10567821I feel like they've gone more quirky and yet also simple... I miss their older releases that sometimes had a more gothic flair to them, I miss more hats, I miss darker prints like regimental stripe. They're definitely at least partially pegging onto the floaty ethereal trend China has made popular and I'm not as into it.
Can VM just release parasols again? That'd make my day
>>10567684I was thinking maybe VM uses enough of the fabric that they could order a separate printing of it?
>>10567821I think suppliers is part of the issue. I know my friend once looked into getting the ribbon they used to use and it's apparently a Japan only ribbon which the manufacturer stopped making. With people looking for cheaper options, there wasn't enough demand for the good quality stuff, so they eventually shuttered. If you notice, there's no more of that ribbon anymore in their releases.
>>10568176which ribbon?
Fabric swatches for the Fleur Garden series are out>https://twitter.com/atelier_pierrot/status/1367045454249095171
>>10568231Their cotton satin ribbon as shown on this jsk.Since new VM I've noticed they've been using chiffon or fabric belts instead.
>>10568176>>10568330I don't think the manufacturer stopped making the cotton sateen ribbon atogether. Coppelia Doll uses the 7mm for the bows.
>>10562798Why did you do this. It added nothing to the thread.
>>10567699On the topic of fabrics, is there a list of classic-cut dresses for OnS issues somewhere? Might be worth compiling it myself if there isn't.
CC update was wild. I made too many impulse purchases and regret it already
>>10569662Feel free to sell them to me~
>>10569663did you get any spoils anon?my problem is I'm trying to avoid pieces that are hard to coordinate multiple ways. A lot of the dresses tonight were lovely, but the cuts make them hard too coord with cardigans, etc
>>10569665I didn't. I only heard about the update when people started posting about it on /cgl/. I'm glad you managed to get some! The items for sale were grogeous.
>>10569662I had a look and holy fuck, so much good stuff. All that MM already gone... did you get either of those AP or Baby dresses that were <2000yen??
>>10569663Anon I would love it if you scalped me. But for real you should enjoy the dresses. >Mfw the cc updates are at 4am my time and I have to be a responsible adultFucking kills me
>>10569722It's making me mildly insane that not only have they pushed updates out to 2am or later my time, they're doing that shit in waves so that the really good shit doesn't appear til the second later update.
>>10569769I was so thankful when cc updates were at 2am my time so I'm really upset by this update too.Oh well, at least I can afford the inflation on mercari and fril, so there's that I guess.
If it makes you feel better anons, in the mad rush to check out, I neglected to properly look at the description and it turns out the dress I bought smells.
So sad I missed it, two dresses I really want gone. Oh well, maybe some other time...
>>10569795what dresses did you want?
>>10569797>what dresses did you want? The MM Ekaterina OP in pink and the Elmelia OP. Especially lamenting the Elmelia since this is the second time I've missed out on the pink. I'll get it someday.
>>10569813I didn't get those, but would offer if I did. I have Ekaterina in pink, but would like a different color before I sell. If you wanna leave a throwaway I'll keep you at top of mind if I ever get another color!
>>10569814Oh awesome, my throwaway is cglwishlist@gmail.comThanks again, good luck in your search!
>>10568411Not that I've seen
Where do you get classic accessories like hairclips and corsages? That you don’t have to bloodbath the brand site for? There isn’t a lot of 2ndhand brand (for accessories) out there either. I’m missing some corsages and hair clip bows from classic jsk I have.I looked at aliexpress but the pics look so crap, they use shiny ribbon and glittery things when I want something more natural
>>10567896>Regret not buying this, it's simple perfection. It's up on CC right now in every colour except black.
>>10570091Yeah, I saw... where black is the color I really want. I appreciate the heads up though!
>>10567565Damn I had a cape like this years ago and got told wasn't Lolita. Just like those peasant blouses
>>10567896I bought it - don't. It's a nightmare to wear without the most perfectly sized petticoat because it lampshades awfully even if your petti is off by an inch. I am really high key upset with this particular release.
>>10569779If it's a perfume smell I've gotten a few pieces like that, it usually airs out within one or two washes that you throw vinegar in with + plenty of outside breeze. Worst case if it's sunny in your area letting it bake inside a closed car can also do wonders. Gotten a lot of cigarette smells out of books that way.>>10569946For bows I'd consider making your own so you can choose better materials and matching colors, that's the conclusion I've come to after looking around for classic accessories and coming up generally short.
>>10570109Was it in the same era that everyone was trying to shoehorn vintage nightwear in as lolita? Trends change, striped socks weren't considered lolita at one point on egl.
>>10570131Oh dear... maybe that's why all those dresses are up on CC right now, lol>>10569946Most of mine are straight from IW and VM but I have a handful from either handmade sources or taobao. I don't know if FoxCherry or NightWhisper are still around but I liked them, also Haruhi Clover has some alright clips but they're not anything impressive.Back in the day SurfaceSpell used to make VM corsage knockoffs that you might still find 2ndhand here and there, they were quite nice.>>10570171I'm so glad the peignoir trend is past
>>10569946I regret not getting one of IW's matching headdress for a release recently, I didn't realize how hard getting the RIGHT headrests is.
>>10570573Odd, I usually hear this mostly for sweet, not classic.Anyway, without knowing which particular dress it was, I'd like to suggest matching it to another major item, eg if you're wearing a bolero then matching your hair accessory to your bolero could work. Or, making your hair accessory, bag and shoes a matched set.Flowers generally work for most lolita dresses, too (again without knowing which specific dress, but a lot of stuff, especially classic, have florals on them)
>>10570897This is my usual approach, but this is dress's construction doesn't lend itself to different colored accessories (pic related). My alternative it is an ivory headrests with wine embellishment, but I feel like this dress needs a slimmer headress that has lace similar enough to the sleeves that you wouldn't notice they don't match.
>>10570903Ah, I see what you mean with this dress. At this point I'd just go to the fabric store and start DIY-ing stuff, maybe you can find a tailor willing to make some appropriate headbows or something. Good luck with your search. It's a gorgeous dress and deserves a nice headdress with it.
This new coat from VM is lovely, but why are they releasing a new long wool coat in March?Southern hemisphere rise up, lol
>>10574262they took reservations for it in September, so I don't think it's new. leftovers.
>>10574271Oh, that makes way more sense, I must have missed it.
Does anyone know why this dress is so limited? Like was it a Kera only release or something? I think this is the only stock photo I've seen
>>10574669Speaking of Madeleine Chiffon, it really feels like Mary Magdalene's second hand prices are going up
>>10576707I always wanted the Cordelia OP but now that I could afford it I don't think I can fit anymore. Getting old sucks.
VM is re- releasing their long chiffon underdress in 8 different colorways starting at 19:00 on 3/19/21. In addition to the usual white, black, and generate, they also have peacock, green tea, lavender, navy, and light blue.
>>10578391
>>10578392
>>10578394
>>10578396
How is the quality of VM's jewelry?
>>10578391Is this the first time they’ve included a shirring panel in the back? I’m tempted
>>10576707What site is this? I didn't see those on y!japan
>>10578484Those are sold auctions on yahoo japan
>>10578484Yahoo auctions but they ended. I also was tracking it but I wasn't feeling too strongly about these colorways. >>10578474I would believe so! I have a previous release and it does not have a shirring panel in the back, only a zipper.
>>10578474No, it's not. The 2011 release and the 2017 release had partial shirring.https://lolibrary.org/items/victorian-maiden-shirring-cotton-under-dresshttps://lolibrary.org/items/victorian-maiden-shirring-chiffon-long-underdress
>>10578488>I have a previous releaseIs the dress see-through or can you wear the dress just by itself?I consider getting it as a simple summer dress.
>>10578507You can definitely wear it by itself. As for being a summer dress though, it's all poly and lined with poly too, so I end up not reaching as much for it during summer unfortunately.
>>10578507>>10578518They definitely did a cotton release in the past as well, which would be more suited to the summer.>>10578488>>10578487Thanks anons; I must have missed it.
>>10578518So it's no real chiffon? Shame. >>10578573I'll look up the cotton version then. Sounds better for my purposes.
>>10578588Just for your reference, the cotton release has poly lining, and the amount of ruffles makes it thick on the bottom. It's probably still more breathable than poly/poly though, I just wouldn't think of it as a summer sort of dress.
>>10578588chiffon isn't a type of fabric, moron, it's rarely even made of cotton.
>>10578391Damn, these colors are so pretty but I have nothing to wear them with.
>>10578640I am aware of that? There are differences between chiffon and regular poly fabric though. I do find high quality chiffon to actually be quite breathable. I have no issues wearing JetJs chiffon in summer for example. If the other anon says it's non breathable I guess it's not the light and airy chiffon kind.
>>10578656A fabric being a heavier weight doesn't make it not chiffon though. Whether something is chiffon is defined by how the fibres are woven together.
>>10578518I’m thinking of getting something like this one or a cotton one for wearing as an underdress but I’m wondering about static, do you have any experience in that regard?
>>10578391The colors are very pretty but I don't see this as a very practical garment. As an underdress, the shirring panel would make it bulky under another dress (it would be more useful as just a skirt in that case), and as an overdress, the thin straps look too flimsy for formal lolita looks. I would just want to wear it to the beach.
>>10578865I don't recall much static, which is why the lining exists I think. It's a pretty solid underdress overall, and while >>10578882 has a good theoretical point, in all actuality the bulk kind of goes down IRL. That being said I have worn literal OPs under JSKs so maybe I just have a different mileage.
I'm not a classic lolita, but Usagiyouhinten just got a MM Ekaterina in Cameo Rose and it's NWT. Just thought someone here would want it.
For the maybe 2 anons interested, Rosa Bianca, a smaller classic lolita brand, is re-releasing their 'Black Cat' dress. In addition to the pictured colorway, they also have a black lace with black colorway, and a white lace with navy colorway. It comes in a shorter and a longer length as well.I know some other anons have bought from them before but I decided to take the plunge and buy this dress since I missed out last time. I'll report back with a review whenever I get it.
>>10578391I bought this to wear as lounge wear by itself. I can’t wait for it to arrive hopefully next week
>>10586267Looking forward to your review anon! I always follow their releases but I’m wary of buying because I never see reviews
>>10586267Oh that looks gorgeous... I'm torn on what size I should get, my waist probably needs a petite 11 to have enough space but then the dress will be over 10cm larger in the bust. Does anyone know if they do small alterations in size?
>>10586629I have no idea. I'm sure if you can message them in Japanese they could possibly accommodate? It wouldn't hurt to ask for sure.
>https://innocent-w.jp/onlineshop/en/211008_kokuti_e.htmlDamn, Innocent World really said no burgers allowed
>>10590911Damn, not even an option to bite the bullet and just watch the feed. When the fuck is ems coming back?
>>10590915Probably not until the borders to Japan open again since EMS uses passenger planes, and that all depends on how the current battle of vaccines vs new variants pans out. In best case scenario maybe end of 2021?

>>10591259This is something....new. I actually really like the bust but to me it would be much cuter without the corset lacing
>>10591258Judging by the photoshoot, they were going into the direction of Larme.
>>10591259Wow this kind of looks like what ero lolita SHOULD be
>>10591290It looks like they just repurposed the bodice from picrel but changed the loops to grommets.

>>10591322Nah this looks way shittier, the new release looks more structured, like an actual boudoir piece. I love it
>>10591367no it fucking doesn't.
>>10591367>>10591374Isn't it great that different takes on the same idea exists and everyone can have what they want?
>>10591379no, because some of you have the wrong fucking takes.
>>10591322Hmm you're right, they look similar but the new one still looks more structured to me, like it has actual padding (which is what I like about it).
>>10591288Me neither anon, it looks nice in photos but for that price I'm not a fan. It's so much more expensive than >>10591322But less detailed.
>>10591330Gorgeous. I'm excited to receive mine!
>>10591312I got a vaguely Dita Von Teese vibe from the name combined with the model's hair and makeup.
>>10591328I'm considering getting the OP. The bodice and sleeves are lovely, but I think the skirt could use some extra frill.
>>10591258>Burlesque DollI find it somewhat amusing that we have a whole ero lolita thread going on right now that many posters have treated like an April Fool's joke, while one of the most traditionally buttoned-up brands is apparently trying to single-handedly revive the aesthetic.
Are there any plus-size classic brands? waist 75-80, bust 92-96
>>10592843Innocent World and maybe some of VM's shirring stuff from around 2010. You're kind of SOL for good classic stuff if you're larger than 90 bust 70 waist.
>>10592849time to lose weight and get a binder :/ oh well maybe taobao has something. Thanks, anon for helping me
>>10592843IW's size large and shirred stuff should pretty much all fit you fine, just be aware of the cut you buy so you can avoid boob loaf as much as possible. VM's full shirring stuff will all fit you (just hard to find unfortunately). Some of moitie's newer stuff in the larger sizes may work too if you like more gothic leaning classic, or you could look for pieces from brands that fit you that you can style in a classic way, for example btssb's rococo garden jsk should just fit you (prob better with a binder) and that jsk would look lovely if styled right. It really depends on what style within classic you're going for. Unfortunately like the other anon said you're kinda SOL for the popular or "good" classic stuff, but there is lots of nice things that would fit you, just spend some time searching around on lolibrary and reading measurements. Be thankful your bust is under 100cm cus anything past that is kinda impossible for classic unless you get really lucky finding full shirring stuff or you like the "neoclassic" taobao look with 6 underskirts lol.
>>10592850If it makes you feel better when you lose weight you do start to lose cms on your bust too. Maybe it sounds silly but I didn't consider it would be as dramatic as it was. Really helped to fit into things.
>>10592868Seconding this. Even small girls can get boobloaf in IW because the dresses are cut for a small cup-to-band allowance, over a C cup will usually look loafy even on a small bust. So if you have a large bust measurement but a small cup-to-band ratio you should be okay in shirred size L.
>>10592868Neoclassic is a nightmare, its so hard to find nice, cotton or linen dresses that aren't obviously mori inspired or kinda bag lady. If I find some good taobao shops, is it okay if I dump them here? Or would it be better for me to link it to the taobao thread?
>>10592914Agreed, neoclassic is usually awful. I've seen the occasional coord or main piece that was decent, but it's usually not my cup of tea. As for taobao finds, I personally think it may be better to link in the taobao thread, but I'm sure many people would appreciate if you mentioned them here! :)
>>10592914maybe do a photo+link dump in the taobao thread but a collage summary with a link to your first taobao-thread post in the classic thread?
>>10592914Akane+Alois on Taobao has nice cotton/linen stuff and comes in larger sizes.
do you think Mary magdalene didn't make as much as they'd hoped from the coats or something...it doesn't make sense though considering they had to contact the factory for additional orders.I just don't understand what the reason could be for this radio silence
