a lot of secondhand clothes I get from japan have little brown spots on them that I just can't get out. what is this?

Which brands are ethical, non chinese shill for egl/jfash? I can only think of 2. q pot where they seem to hand make everything in japan, and bb and b deco seems to be all hand made in california as well.
I’m willing to pay a lot for my feels to not worry about chinese slave factories and things falling apart

Most likely a paper tag from the dry cleaners, that's how they're usually attached and some sellers leave them on

fabric, glue, plastic, findings, threads, etc. to make basically anything will all be sourced at some point to unethical labor. the supplies to make both qpot and bb & b definitely are (esp bb & b; you can buy a lot of their jewelry findings on taobao easy). its very literally impossible you get away from. drink some vodka, take a deep breath, and suck it up.
>>
>>10531647
It depends on how well everyone else knows each other. If it's a bunch of close friends, you might feel excluded but bigger meets tend to be more open for people to meet new people.
>>
>>10532268
This is true, but I want to support healthy and compensated workers as much as I can. There is still a difference between getting a dress straight from taobao. versus getting a dress from a company that sources thread and buttons from taobao, but pays their workers fairly and makes the dress in japan or somewhere that isn’t china

Things with Made in the USA tags are often made using forced immigrant/prison labor? This seems like a weird hang up
>>
>>10532313
I wasn’t aware of that but thank you now I know and I’ll be more diligent about what i buy from.
Most of my clothing is from fair trade eco friendly companies so i don’t think it would change much for me in particular .
but also i just fucking hate china and i’ll throw money at prison made shit if i have to, before buying anything that says made in china. I’m chinese myself so i don’t want to get into it but yeah there’s my hangup

>>
>>10532317
>Most of my clothing is from fair trade eco friendly companies so i don’t think it would change much for me in particular .
If you didn't even know about domestic prison labor I sincerely doubt this is true. Most brands that say they are ethical/green don't report their supply chains and are lying
>>
>>10532317
The most ethical purchase you can make is secondhand, regardless of origin. The manufacturer has already been paid and by purchasing new clothing you're just using up new resources, regardless of how "green" or "ethical" they are. As another anon mentioned, most "made in USA" products involve prison labor at some point. Even Whole Foods uses prison labor to process some of their goods. I highly suggest you do a lot more research if you weren't aware of this but only buy from "ethical" brands.
>>
>>10532317

I wear US 9 (maybe an overstretched 8.5), but had to order size 41, instead of a 40. Only reason I knew that was the right size was buying a con priced inflated pair where the seller said "these are labeled as a 10, but they're more of a 9."

Maybe stick with fancy updos where you can fake volume with curls pinned strategically with large accessories and at worse, a fake bun. Use volumizing shampoo/mousse to add extra oomph.

If you have oily hair also, def avoid the usual blunt bangs and invest in a good faux bang clip in, otherwise you'll suffer stringy gross bangs.

I have really fine hair. I like to put a smaller ponytail high up on my head and fluff it out to fake more hair lol. Basically any style like that. I will also put it into smaller pigtails with some still down to puff it out.

Quality varies, some pieces are excellent quality and some are not so great. I personally feel like there’s often something about their designs that just doesn’t sit quite right, many of their sleek pieces just don’t have the same refinement as MmM or Boz and their busier pieces can come off a little too “hot topic-y” sometimes. That said, I do still own a fair amount of BPN and definitely think it’s an underrated brand.

How long is Wunderwelt taking to invoice for shipping? Haven't heard back from them in just over a week. They did send an e-mail saying Yamato shipping was taking a little longer to pack and invoice for, and I'm not in a hurry, but I'd appreciate an estimate.

Can confirm. I own the "daily" one, and the lower part of it slopes down under the weight of my skirt. It's still more of an A-line, as there's no curve around the hips, but it's definitely a more subtle one. On the plus side, the petticoat doesn't look out of place under bell-shaped skirts.

Stupid wig question:
People who buy wigs and just part the long bangs instead of cutting them always get shit on (often for good reason since it looks weird).

But if blunt bangs don’t look good on someone and they want to wear them as a side part - how can they cut the wig so it doesn’t look like „I just took this out of the bag and slapped it on my head?“

I’ve been thinking about getting a wig but I can’t pull off blunt bangs for the life of me

I'm sorry if this question is incredibly stupid, but this is the stupid questions thread after all.
I have mainly been wearing very very beginner gothic lolita up to this point, but i want to move a bit towards sweet with the black colourways of some BTSSB dresses i've been eyeing. I'll probably coord them with black stuff, seeing as most of my current starter wardrobe is black. But i'm also an insecure shithead and don't want to be seen as "bittersweet" with all the annoying controversies, but i'd also feel stupid wearing something and not being able to name it. If i wear the black colourway of a BTSSB jsk with a sweet print, and coord it with all black, will it just be sweet lolita in dark colours, or gothic with a sweet print?
>>
>>10534577
Although each substyle has common colors associated with it, it’s the actual clothing style and not the colors that make a piece gothic or sweet. You could be wearing head to toe black without any print, but be sweet if the details are (puff sleeves, lots of ruffles, etc)
>>
>>10534577
>But i'm also an insecure shithead and don't want to be seen as "bittersweet" with all the annoying controversies
First thing's first is you probably shouldn't way the semantics of gulls this heavily. But besides that, I'm still in the "it's just dark sweet" because gothic is more than a black dress, it has it's own motifs and aesthetics. That's not to say some kind of "gothic sweet" can't be done, but it's going to be a harder setup then say "sweet classic" because sweet and gothic are aesthetically a bit at odds in the look they are going for. But again, see first point and don't worry too much about the semantics.
>>
>>10534579
That actually makes a lot of sense and really provides some new insight to how i should look at stuff, thank you!
>>
>>10534581
I'll settle with calling it sweet in dark colours then, thank you for the clarification. I like gothic motifs, and dark colours, but I also like sweet motifs, but not light colours, which would logically end me up doing sweet in dark colours, which makes sense now. Before, i always thought that sweet couldn't be truly sweet if the colours weren't light also, but now i've learned.

>>
>>10535332

>>
>>10534577
It's still sweet if the overall style is sweet. That being said, with plain colour items the colour can affect the styling and how an outfit is perceived - for example, a plain-colour classic outfit in wine x navy might read classic in that colourway, but gothic in all black with minimal changes.

Probably a question that’s been asked a billion times but what kind of makeup is generally accepted in lolita? Everyone says “natural” but what is the line between good makeup and gaudy
>>
>>10536382
If you're so new to the fashion and/or makeup that you have to ask what's appropriate, then stick with "natural" because otherwise you'll look like a clown. Minimal makeup is fine, but gaudy and bold makeup looks take a lot of skill and may not fit the aesthetic.

There's a lot of tutorials on youtube, but the best place to look for a beginner is Japanese lolitas for two reasons. One, jfash makeup is more subtle and uses different techniques than western styles. Second, Japanese makeup tutorials generally focus more up-close on the face, and don't shy from showing details like skin texture or clumpy mascara. Most western makeup insta/youtubers use bright ringlights and filters to obscure this, as well as further shots, which makes the tutorial less realistic and less useful for beginners.

I've never used MK as an SS, but i wouldn't submit an PP claim unless it's your last resort. You'll be blacklisted by her and will never be able to use her service again.

how can I look for this old style jfashion legwarmers on mercari? is there a specific japanese word for them?
>>
>>10536405
I'm not sure if you just did not list this step, but did you actually ask her to ship it?
>>
Im considering selling off majority of my lolita.

Am i best off listing things individually or in small lots? The only reason i havent done it sooner is its often a lot of work and often only sell things when people ask me if im willing to sell.

If i make lots, should i do it like 3 or 5 pieces each lot and keep it like similar colorways? Similar brands, similar styles. Or do i make coords?

Looking on lacemarket it seems only blouses and accessorie lots sell.
>>
>>10536604
sell off main pieces and more valuable accessories alone i'd say. cheaper stuff you can put in lots by item type, color, substyle, motif, etc. probably 3 to 5 is a good number.
>>
>>10536604
Imo you would make the most money listing everything individually. but if you want to make things easier sell everything from the same series together, like main pieces with their matching accessories, and accessories in same color lots. Don't make coords

What's the best way to hang OP dresses with elastic at the shoulders? One of my OPs is being repaired right now because I hung it up "normally" on a coat hanger and the elastic stretched out for years until I noticed the damage, so I folded the dress over to hang it at the waist.

Is there a better way to hang dresses with elastic? I don't mind hanging it that way but I guess it throws off the 'aesthetic' of my wardrobe.
>>
>>10536863
You could sew in your own hanger loops to bear the weight of dress

Is there like, a more normie version of baby/ap? I like their dreamy sweet prints a lot. but I want to stay sort of normie and not do petticoats. I picked up some hoodies and cardigans by them but I wonder if theres anything else?

>>
So my Kumya Christmas market has been stuck in usps hell for a month now. I know usps is having a ton of delays, but when should I contact them about lost mail?
>>
>>10536979
If you are in the US, there is no shipping going there, for everything else there should be no reason for that (besides Japan going in lockdown now but that's today's news).
>>
>>10536979
Her store on BOOTH ships a little slowly sometimes. I had a similar situation a month ago. The Japanese New Year holiday probably slowed it down at first, so I'd wait a few days and then contact them.

How long does shipping from AP to Tenso usually take?

>>10536910
If any of the prints are up your alley, you could always wear those low waist AP mini skirts casually with no petticoat. I think they look great with hoodies and cutsews. Salopettes would also be cute in casual coords, if they look good on you.

Closet Chilod is paying 40% for people who are willing to sell their MMM and Boz pieces. Does that mean that we can expect more of these brands the next weeks, or nah?
>>
>>10537038
No, CC rates are actually low, 40% isnt a lot more. People who sell to CC do it because they dont care about resale.

What are the limits of j-fashion?
I think it would be awesome to wear a long, knitted scarf and knitted socks up to right below or above the knee in summer. Could that qualify as j-fashion? And does anyone agree it'd be an awesome idea?
>>
>>10537245
Why do you care if it's considered J-fashion or not?
>>
>>10537249
If it's J-fashion it'd make me cool, if it's not It'd just make me dressing like a retard. It also influences what communities I can be a part of. If it's J-fashion, I can ask /cgl/ for advice. If it's not, I'll have to go to /fa/, and I have an idea that /fa/ fashion is less fun. It'd also mean I couldn't wear it to weeb meetups, for instance.
And if it's not J-fashion, maybe I could make adjustments to the idea to make it fit the definition
>>
>>10537272
Have you gotten your ASD diagnosis yet
>>
>>10537272
Why do you live your life so scared that you must follow the rules and definitions? Lurk more and figure out what you like and what looks nice together. If you ask cgl something and we tell you to go to fa..why is it such a big deal?
Also...why do you think jfashion will make you look cool? What do you even think is j fashion?
Nobody here wears j fashion to look cool. it’s not ‘cool’ by any stretch, it straight up looks retarded in most public places even if you have a great outfit.Wear it if you like it. Its a subculture.
>>
>>10537011
When did it ship? What's your current status? I've a had couple packages ordered and delivered within the last few weeks both international and abroad so you might want to contact them if it's been over a week and a half without budging.

>>

wearing jfashion includes being interested in, following, and shopping from japanese fashion brands, particularly the ones in shibuya109 and harajuku. and emulating the look on your own if you absolutely can't support the brands. but you should at least know what they are.

you don't, so you don't belong here.

How can you tell if a print is faded? I'm having such a hard time with my Fancy Paper Dolls JSK in the pink colorway. Compared to all the images online, it looks just as pastel. But, there aren't that many images, and there seems to be a difference in vibrancy from the dresses to the totes? All the lines are distinct and the print color looks consistent throughout, but I'm so paranoid. Any tips for figuring our if it has faded or not?
>>
>>10537782
I would compare it to places in the seam, or underside of the hem. Anywhere that hasn't been exposed to the sun or friction. That's the best you can do without a second dress that isn't faded.
>>
>>10537782
i don't have tips but FPD just looks faded by nature due to how light the colors are. i wouldn't worry too much as long as everything is distinct and you've been storing it properly.

>tfw buyer complained that the FPD i sold them was faded when that's literally just how the print looks

Im about to sell a dress with full back shirring and adjustable/removable(removable?) straps but as i went to try it on, the straps keep unbuttoning as i try to adjust it into place. It doesnt seem like the holes ripped bigger as theyre sewn/hemmed to be that large.
Could it be that the dress hanging by the button stretched them out? Its been hanging for a few years. I have no problem with them staying on the hanger. And although the dress is old; it doesnt seem like the elastic gave out making the dress just flop/hang down. The button also seems to be normally sewed on. I dont think its an issue of me being too big for the dress because i still fit my AP and Baby unshirred OPs. I wore this dress once a few years back and i dont remember having this happen but i did wear a cardigan over and no blouse under unlike this time.

Is this just a common thing for full back shirring and removable straps? Its meta if that also says anything.
Do i mark it as minor damage? Do i write this in the comments as damage?
>>
>>10537905
Nayrt, but you should definitely reply so there is no confusion.

Eh, it often looks pretty bad. I use a sparkly light eyeshadow on the eyebags and a light colored but not white color on my waterline. Pic related is obviously an exaggeration, but stark white eyeliner looks pretty dumb without loads of photoshop.

If you want tips on how to make your eyes look bigger, you're better off watching a bunch of k-makeup videos to see what they do.

How do gulls feel about aliexpress jsks?
>>
>>10538074
The higher quality ones will be from Taobao resellers. The other ones I've found to be bad replicas or hilariously low quality. I would just tell you to buy brand secondhand, and if not just Taobao brand.

Depends on the type of material the sole is. I have a Bodyline pair where the "wood" is foam, so it stays on very flat surfaces so I don't roll my ankle. If you worn any sort of flatforms before, treat it the same way.

Looking for stock pictures or any information on the release of a newer Usakumya rucksack that's black, has tartan bows and red eyes, like the 2005 boy version. Want to add him to my wishlist, but can't find any information on the thing apart from instagram photos.
>>
>>10538120
Apart from being careful on steps as other anons have said, I find them very comfortable, probably moreso than heels. It's a good option if you want the height or silhouette of heels without the instep.
>>
>>10538190
The really really big one? I bought it from BABY last year; it was one of the oversized ones so cost like $300, holds a lot, great for snuggling. I could have sworn it was still on the BTSSB Japan site late last year cause it never sold out.
>>
>>10538074
I only ever order from a few resellers who don't hide what brand it's from. just ordered the Portrait of a Lady from Infanta, and it was only about $10 more than buying direct with free shipping.

YMMV, I would stick to Taobao resellers who aren't shifty about where their items come from. I also avoid non-printed dresses on aliexpress since they can just be replicated at worse quality.
>>
How do you style scrunchies? Basically pigtails? I have a couple from AP but idk wtf I'm doing. They don't seem to be very tight fitting so I think they're more decorational vs functional?
>>
>>10537997
You could try a champagne or peach or very light pink depending on your skin tone, it's a little more subtle but it can still look kinda weird irl. That's more of a trick for photos/stage
>>
>>10537936
The buttonholes are likely stretched a little but this is an easy fix. Either buy some generic buttons that are slightly larger and fix it yourself, or note it in the description and lower the price a smidge to compensate.
>>
>>10538333
i use them for single ponytails and i've seen some cute coords with one scrunchie on one pigtail or braid and bows/etc on the other. i double wrap to make them hold my hair. not my favorite kind of headwear desu but they're good for casual coords
