Last Thread
-lots of song releases, notably Resoluscia's debut, Non Sweet's debut, and a new single from Melancholiiah
-do vtubers have a place in the overseas idol community?
-Tambourine gains a 3rd member, one of the graduates from Danzoo Dash
-Is Onlyfans trashy if you're an idol, or the western equivalent of gravure?

No starting topic, just going to share that if Non Sweet's video for "Merry Xmas Kiss" gets 3k more views this month, they'll get a new original song from SHUN.

I’m not a fan of vtubers being in the idol community.
Of course, I’m also someone who can’t stand instrumentalists and cosidols in idol fests either since I don’t think any of them embody the spirit of what idols should be doing. Talentless weebs or not, at least they’re trying to emulate Eastern idols somewhat.
I’m also gonna be the one to say western idol “gravure” fucking sucks ass, and is akin to awkward soft core porn. It looks like when a certain western idol decided to try gravure in Japan and just came off looking really awkward.
>>
>>10528163
>>10528273
I’m extremely surprised that people act as if the vtubers in the idol community werent already here. Phoebe, Milky, Natalie from Peachy. They were all overseas idols who decided to become vtubers. Most vtubers don’t associate with overseas idols anyway. If we’re having this discussion though, vtubers are the closest to idols than other merging communities (they debut, a lot plan on doing music, and at the heart even Japanese vtubers are based on idols).
>>
>>10528301
Maybe it’s because I get really nervous not being able to see someone’s face.... if I can’t see your expression it freaks me out, so vtubers really just bug me.
>>
>>10528301

22/7 and Idolmaster have been using rigs for some time - 22/7 for longer and usually for full body recording for their music videos and then eventually for Youtube videos for variety show style videos.
Im@s only recently picked it up recently however their rigs are phenomenal.

So I think the problem for me personally is that because I've seen it done well and know of the quality you can get it's incredibly hard to stomach some of the vtuber models which are constantly bugging or look like their eyes are half open for the majority of the time.
A lot of them look like shitty avatars from an online game from the mid 2000's made because they've just paid someone on fiverrr to do it and called it a day.

But I also just really like seeing someone put some effort into their appearance and get to know the real them - like most of the idols mentioned in >>10528301 we got the opportunity to see some of their faces well before this vtuber thing kicked off and it's reassuring to know that their vtuber model does actually reflect the person. There's a lot of nuances you pick up from someones actual expression that you can't get from the vtuber model.

I think they'll just become another sub-category of idol, much like cosidols and instrumentalists are treated at the moment. I think the hardest part will be trying to keep things interesting for viewers because of the limitations set because they can't stand up or interact with items so conversation in between songs if they have a live could go stale. I'm interested in seeing how this goes and seeing who actually has a talent for this niche.
>>
>>10528381
I agree with this entirely.

So far, I think Phoebe is really shining through in this niche. I've been able to see so much of her personality in her streams that I was never able to before since she's located all the way in Cali. She's genuinely really sweet and likeable. The way she interacts with her audience and builds her community is something I think a lot of idols (virtual or not) could benefit from.

And then Nyaru is in the same agency as her and is beginning to develop herself as an idol too through via VTubing (her art looks really familiar desu is that San's?). Tons of potential.

I have yet to find the other overseas idols turned virtual but like you said if they put in actual effort in all aspects and don't just shit commission off of fiverr and call it a day, I think this niche could be a great addition to the community. They need to put in the same effort, if not more, than when they were irl.
>>
>>10528529
At least now they can't complain of money issues if they were before. That stimulus should be more than enough for a proper model.....

Honestly I think it's the lack of faces that scare me. But maybe I'll go be Phoebe and nyaru a try if they're really shining like you're saying. One of my goals is to face this fear anyway so what better time!
>>
>>10528566
Are you kidding? $600 is nowhere near enough to get a model drawn and rigged. I see them going for closer to $1000.
>>
>>10528566
>>10528592
Models go for $500 at the lowest and $2000 at the highest. And that’s not including extra expressions or outfits or even rigging. For $600 you can get a base quality or a bust up from some people. Even San raised her prices after her first batch ($100 to $500).
>>
>>10528566
Yeah the art alone looks to be about $1k while rigging can get to about the same price too. I think that's why those cheaper fiverr models can seem like a shortcut or hack, but end up being shit quality.

Did they use music directly from the rhythm game? All the tap noises are still in the song...
>>

Is it evil of me to link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-0z-KW44JU

anyway it isn't necessarily bad right? I know nothing about dance but when I watch yosakoi videos on youtube it's really disappointing if you can't hear the narukos, some extra loud beats on top of the music can be a good thing.

Maybe it could have been cooler if she added a little bit of extra power to her dance moves when the tap noises played, so make some sort of connection between the noises and her dancing. And use editing, like camera switching, if the moves don't allow for that to create an impact in a different way, which it actually looked like she did at times

What's the current opinion on Holly Heart? I know she's not a great dancer and she still does cringey shit occasionally, but I have to admire her on some level. She's been doing this for 10 years, barely has 500 Youtube subscribers and is lucky to get 100 views, but she still takes part in idol festivals and seems mostly positive.
>>
>>10533609
I think holly is the epitome of doing it for fun. She doesn’t let shit phase her. It’s great honestly.

Oh she definitely gets fazed by stuff, she posted this earlier, and I know she's seen some posts about herself on here before. I feel kinda bad for her, but at the same time she's never really improved in all these years.
>>
>>10533998
Idk is it just me that gets annoyed when people post shit like that? Not just Holly, I’ve seen so many people constantly complain about their follower count. Social media is like that. My follower count fluctuates all the time.
>>
>>10528529
Agencies? Vtubers?
Can you elaborate?
>>
>>10533609
Honestly, she does what she loves and she doesn’t let anyone stop her, which is admirable. Even though her dancing leaves a lot to be desired, I think her charisma makes up for that to some degree.
>>
>>10534069
"Vtuber" is short for "virtual youtuber", someone who makes videos and streams as a virtual avatar controlled through their webcam instead of as themselves. This has become a big thing especially in Japan, with big production agencies like Nijisanji and Hololive hiring tons of streamers. There are plenty of Western/English speaking virtual streamers too, and they can also be part of agencies too (although I'm not sure if there's any money or business stuff happening behind the scenes like with a big agency, or if it's just a way to get your name out there). Phoebe and Nyaru have both been streaming a lot with their virtual avatars and are both part of a collective called Shirayuri Production. Hope that helps explain things
>>
>>10534054
I think she's just a bit of an attention whore at times. She'll wear the shortest shorts and crop top to show the most skin, then act annoyed when people compliment her appearance. Her newest video is literally dancing in the snow in a short skirt. Or she'll say something like how she doesn't think her upcoming video is good enough - if you're not happy with it, why upload it?
>>
>>10533609
I assume she's on the spectrum
>>
>>10534212
Can i audition for that production/agency?
>>
>>10534766
Why don’t you just look it up yourself?
>>
>>10534766
They periodically open auditions for English vtubers/singers and I know that they just had one, but I don't know if the deadline for that one has passed. Like a previous anon said, you'll probably be able to get more information if you look up HololiveEN audition.
>>
>>10534766
don't fuck with hololive. being an indie vtuber gives you more freedom.
>>
>>10534941
This. You get instant exposure and money with Hololive but you also get doxed and stalked so good luck with that.
>>
>>10534947
not to mention if you get replaced, they keep the vtuber model and all of your fans and merch rights.
>>
>>10534891
>>10534939
thank you. im drafting up my avatar now. im really excited even though im not an idol.
>>10534941

>>
>>10535083
They have auditions open for their EN branch that close January 28th, but it’s more singer focused than streamer like their usual members.

>>
>>10534947

>>
>>10535145

>>
>>10535202

>>
>>10535212
grow a thicker skin before coming here. and stop acting like we owe you anything. you sound like a man, and an autist. you aren't special, just stupid.
>>
>>10535196
>>10535196
NTAYRT. They find their address, pictures, family info, etc. Mano Aloe for example was a Hololiver very briefly before she was run off by stalkers and trolls and had to quit. They found her phone number and harassed her. Good luck if you have a significant other bc you'd have to hide them. Hololive makes it pretty clear they consider their talent as idols and treat them as such. they don't discuss having boyfriends or partners irl. Jp fans in particular don't like that sort of thing and it seems to extend to the EN branch as well to keep up the idol fantasy.
>>
>>10535212
>that’s not the insult you think it is
You being actually autistic makes it even more fitting, and amusing actually. Now stop shitting up the thread.

>>

>>
>>10535311
you can blame the newfags for that.
>>
So anyways, how do people think cons or idol events at cons will change after corona?

Do you think there will be more idols? Do you think people will have used this off-time to improve? Do you think it's going to be a cringefest since people might have lost their social skills during all this time?
>>
Also, to turn around the discussion, I'm honestly disappointed in the number of idols that turned their accounts into vtubers. It makes me think they didn't really want to be an idol in the first place and just wanted to hop on the trend. It disappoints me because I want to see a real scene evolve here but it's almost impossible when you only have 1% of people really try.
>>
>>10535434
I definitely think that we're going to see a new pool of idols. I've been seeing new groups popping up left and right and have also been seeing a lot of debuts planned. Hopefully when cons start back up we'll get to see some of the newer idols in action.
>>
>>10535300
lol ok
>>
>>10535436
i agree with this. a lot of them probably just wanted e fame of some kind.
>>
>>10535436
I agree with this, it feels like a lot of them are just looking for attention. Half of these vtubers have never even streamed before, and yet they shell out tons of money just to hop on the new trend. Personally, I’ve found myself becoming more of a fan of a lot of idols who are sticking to the idol scene through it all, since it feels like they’re really here to stay.
>>
>>10535440
Does anyone else find it really irritating how many new groups are springing up that are run by the same, like, 3 people? In the OIC servers I always have to laugh when I see certain people posting about all their new projects since it seems they switch gears every other week and start something new
>>
>>10535583
elaborate?
>>
>>10535583
I think I know who you're talking about, but for the sake of protecting the privacy of the servers I'm not going to mention names. But yeah. It seems like it's people who are good at making logos, Instagram pages, and application forms, but not much else. Your brand new idol group doesn't need a trainee group, a worldwide virtual group, and a brother group before you've even done anything. They need to calm down and focus on their skills and creating good content before anything else.
>>
>>10535632
Yeah, didn’t want to name names for that reason. It’s just kind of both frustrating and funny to watch them pile on more and more groups without actually doing anything with them.
>>
>>10535583
It is frustrating, agreed. But I have been seeing new groups other than those pop up. Some of them are holding auditions (with not much luck) and a few others I've seen are debuting soon.
>>
>>10535714
Its all role-playing for them, nothing serious. That's why I left the discord long ago.
>>
>>10535714
I feel like right now is an awful time to hold auditions - most people who want to debut quickly are going solo, since they can’t really meet up with a group, and people who really want a group seem to be hedging their bets until after COVID if they’re serious about it. Hopefully the serious groups manage to get some momentum.
>>
Wow people are really desperate to get the thread removed this time.
