To start the new thread off with some discussion:

Are you planning to buy any new pieces before the end of the year?
What was your favorite print release this year?
What was your favorite non-print release this year?
Favorite non-dress releases? (jewelry, purse, shoes, jacket, etc.)
Which brand do you think had the strongest releases over all?

Least favorite print?
Which brand disappointed you?

>Are you planning to buy any new pieces before the end of the year?
Yes, probably AP's Christmas print unless it's bad, and Toy Museum
>What was your favorite print release this year?
BABY Wizard of Oz
>What was your favorite non-print release this year?
AP Ennui Doll, I'm glad it flopped though because I'm hoping to snag it on sale
>Favorite non-dress releases? (jewelry, purse, shoes, jacket, etc.)
BABY Fairy Tale Herbarium jewelry, especially the necklace, pic related
>Which brand do you think had the strongest releases over all?
BABY
>Least favorite print?
Girly Sticker. I don't hate it but it's definitely my least favorite
>Which brand disappointed you?
AP, it's like they get so much right and then one thing wrong and it ruins the dress
>>
Anyone have any recommendations on a-line petticoats? My old one is on its last legs.
>>
>>10495453
Melikestea or Aurora & Ariel. Both brands are constantly recommended around here.

>I've yet to see evidence of a Lolita coat that can handle regular negative degree weather on a daily basis
>I don't really wear Lolita too much outside of the house so no point in a lolita coat
Sounds like you're not looking then.
>>
>>10495457
>>10495457
Good job leaving out the part where I said when that happens ie the weather consistently being negative temperatures, that I stop wearing Lolita as much outside of the house. Because it becomes dangerous to do so.
>>
>>10495475
It isn’t dangerous jfc, you sound stupid. Just get a wool cost like everyone else and actual winter boots. Yes, Lolita coats are made with wool if you look outside of AP
>>
>>10495479
>It isn’t dangerous
so do you actually live somewhere where it regularly gets -50 and below or? because temperatures that low actually ARE dangerous. A coat simply being wool isn't good enough

I will buy new pieces, but there is no planning involved.

BtSSB Kumya's Ice Cream in ivory
>What was your favorite non-print release this year?
AatP Francesca Frill, but it's not my measurements

IW's oldschool style blouses and headdresses
>Which brand do you think had the strongest releases over all?
Meta making moves into the fat market is strong
>Least favorite print?
there have certainly been some ugly prints i would not pay money for, like AP Girly Sticker, but if someone gave it to me for free then I'd wear it. So overall the worst is that trevor brown shit, because i would not wear it even if it was free. was that even this year? it's all blurring together.
>Which brand disappointed you?
IW not adding DHL or Yamato is total bullshit

the JetJ Bosch dress

Coppelia Doll Frill OP by VM

pic related IW blouse
>Which brand do you think had the strongest releases over all?
I think Meta did pretty well this year, also Btssb.
>Least favorite print?
>Which brand disappointed you?
IW's main piece designs. I just find their post 2018 designs so unflattering and boring. And it's not just poor material choices. They only know three cuts these days: Tiered JSK's, underbust JSK and Long OP's. VM starts to annoy me as well with their constant OP releases, but I can forgive them because what they come up with is pretty and nice quality.

>Are you planning to buy any new pieces before the end of the year?
I'm getting a new gaming PC and some other big $$ purchases so I think I'm going to hold off for a few months.
>What was your favorite print release this year?
Neon Star Diner, by far. Nothing else really stood out to me this year.
>What was your favorite non-print release this year?
Love and Cherish You series by BtssB.
>Favorite non-dress releases? (jewelry, purse, shoes, jacket, etc.)
The Neon Star Diner sailor blouson. I think I'm going to get one in all 3 colors, it's cute as hell.
>Which brand do you think had the strongest releases over all?
Print and design-wise I think AP had some great releases. But I think Meta's move towards multiple sizes and emphasizing their basics series is going to be a huge boost for the brand.
>Least favorite print?
AatP's Devil Cat and the Hourglass of Ending.
>Which brand disappointed you?
AatP. All of their releases looked really bad. The prints were ugly and on their solids the fabrics looked so cheap and shiny, with puckered seams and stuff. It was a rough year.
>>
>>10495483
So you go out in lolita wearing your normie parka on top or what? Because if not, then this isn't about you. Anon was complaining about the lolitas at meets that just throw on a shitty normie jacket over their coord. It sounds like you don't even go out if it's that cold. God.
>>
>>10495492
I have no idea what you're talking about but I don't live in either of those places, it's not just Alaska that gets -50C (or -50F I guess, once you start getting that cold C and F get kind of interchangeable)
>>
>>10495516

if it's cold and I'm wearing lolita then yes, I'm going to wear a real winter coat, and if it's snowing, real winter shoes too
>>

I'm planning to do one more Moitie haul before the end of the year, so yes.
>What was your favorite print release this year?
VM Stripe Rose Ruffle Dress, pic related. (Florals count as print, right?)
>What was your favorite non-print release this year?
VM Coppelia Doll
>Favorite non-dress releases? (jewelry, purse, shoes, jacket, etc.)
VM Romantic Setwear and AATP Chloe Blouse.
>Which brand do you think had the strongest releases over all?
You have no idea how badly I want to say VM, but I'm going with Moitie. I think AATP, Sheglit and Meta also had relatively strong releases but Moitie gets extra points for having someone to liaise with the English-speaking community and for actually taking suggestions.
>Least favorite print?
The AATP beta fish print. I think it's called Rumble Fish or something?
>Which brand disappointed you?
MM. The coat release was late and they haven't put up their the survey they said they would do yet. I'm glad they are alive, but still, disappointing.

Already eyeing the new series by VM, will likely buy tonight
>What was your favorite print release this year?>>10495612 has it right with the VM Stripe Rose Ruffle dress
>What was your favorite non-print release this year?
The Florence Frill series - so elegant!
>Favorite non-dress releases? (jewelry, purse, shoes, jacket, etc.)
MMM's accessory releases these past couple of months were inspiring! I love their coffin lace headdress and more recently their rosette headdress
>Which brand do you think had the strongest releases over all?
I still liked VM the most, but MMM gets a consolation prize for having the best hype train with really well coordinated social media.
>Least favorite print?
I'd hate to generalize but while I sometimes eye AATP's non print releases, their print releases this year have been a disaster. It's a shame because this is the same brand who did one of my favorite stained glass prints.
>Which brand disappointed you?
Innocent World, and I like tea length dresses. I absolutely hate their poly - it never falls well even with the right length petti - and their cotton releases are noticeably thinner and stiffer than before.
>>
Im so disappointed, I just received my Cotton Candy feet shoes and I want to like them but they're just.... kind of sad and cheap looking for $70 shoes. Anyone else have a bad experience or am I being too critical? :(

>Are you planning to buy any new pieces before the end of the year?
Not likely because this year has been mostly fruitless as is
>What was your favorite print release this year?
Honestly, my favorite print this year has been Lady Sloth’s Nevermore series. This year has been pretty dull.
>What was your favorite non-print release this year?
Elizabeth jsk, closely followed by Moitie’s Nun mini OP
>Favorite non-dress releases? (jewelry, purse, shoes, jacket, etc.)
Usa/kumya slippers
>Which brand do you think had the strongest releases over all?
Tie between Moitie and Btssb for me. We’ve been complaining for Moitie accessories forever now and they really showed up, however Btssb has really come out of nowhere to hit us with all these Usa/kumya releases!
>Least favorite print?
Nobel collection
>Which brand disappointed you?
IW. As a brand I buy first hand more than others, I was super disappointed with their releases. Super lackluster, and even if they weren’t total shit, you couldn’t even order them from overseas even if you wanted to. I know it’s been corrected now, but it’s been too little too late imo.

>What was your favorite print release this year?
Not really a print person, but Rose Castle ~Invitation from the Duke of Bat stood out to me. I even bought it and I don't regret it.
>What was your favorite non-print release this year?
The recent short release of the moitie nun dress.
>Favorite non-dress releases? (jewelry, purse, shoes, jacket, etc.
Coffin lace everything.
>Which brand do you think had the strongest releases over all
I feel biased as a moitie fag, but towards the end of the year moitie really pulled through after having a bit of a slump. Special mentions to baby for all the cute releases that showcase kumya and the Elizabeth two piece.

Seconding this, but they might have gotten slowed down by the fact their coats sold so be well they had to re-negotiate with the factory. It isn't like VM who were dead for maybe five minutes before coming back; they probably need the extra lead time to adjust.

I was definitely looking forward to them putting up old stock though, unless that's what has been causing those Closet child dumps.

I've already bought my wine noble collection JSK, so i think i'll pass except if... I eventually manage to pass my driving licence, I'll treat myself with this gorgeous Red Riding Hood set from baby (if it's still available by then).

What was your favorite print release this year?
Noble collection.

Favorite non-dress releases? (jewelry, purse, shoes, jacket, etc.)
AP Noble collection accessories.

Which brand do you think had the strongest releases over all?
AP this year, even if it's not my favourite brand anymore. Noble Collection and Little Witch were great and reminded me why I fell in love with this brand few years ago. It sparkled the magic again for me. although I'm waiting for meta velvet season releases.

>>10495860
Nayrt but good proper normie coats aren't cheap either and many winter meets are going to end up indoors anyway. I don't see why you kiddos don't just quit with your whining that everyone isn't perfectly aesthetic all the time when they're trying to keep warm. It isn't even about being poor or not; some people just don't care because they know they'll remove the normie coat indoors for coord pics and if your coord looks fine indoord/during the meet or in your photos who cares?

I hope so. They managed to pull burgundy off, so I'm hoping they can resolve the factory issues.

It's light, airy and has the most wonderful pleats and ruffles. The butt ruffle is honestly the best part about it as well as the ability to pull it into a bustle. I love everything about it even if I only find myself wearing it on fancy occasions.

>>10495878
The scenario I brought up involves people wearing the fashion indoors and wearing the fashion but with a normie coat on top outdoors. What is the difference between that and wearing gym clothes on the way to a meet and changing once you arrive? Either way you are wearing the fashion at the event you intended to wear the fashion to, just in a way that is convenient.

Are you going to say people who don't wear their coords while driving or in public transit aren't real lolitas because they change at/right before the meet?

I wish you the best of luck, anon. I'm trying to build a new PC too and the parts shortage, especially the gpu shortage, is so bad that it's impossible to get anything at its normal price. Even 20 series gpus are going for $1k or more secondhand.

>>10495699
If I saw the print without knowing it was Baby, I would've assumed it's Taobao or Bodyline.
>>
>>10495923

Regular coats don't inherently look like shit with lolita. Some classic coats (and dresses for that matter) look super normie already to me as a sweet lolita. Depending on the cut and substyle of lolita you're wearing it could easily look fine, just not as nice as a lolita coat in most instances.
>>
@ everyone wearing normie coats with lolita, do you take your petti off or where are you getting normie coats that can be buttoned/zipped up over lolita? I stopped buying normie outerwear since I couldn't button it above a petti. Short coats or open coats, even if just the bottom half, lets in loads of cold air in my personal experience so I couldn't justify it
>>
>>10495699
This is really, really bad. It seriously looks like they did a google image search and photoshopped the results together

>photorealistic piano
>old timey illustrated cats
>what is perspective
>giant cat silhouette stock art
>random ass birds
>piano keyboard on hem is neither straight nor wavy enough - makes it look like the skirt is weirdly crooked and sagging
>text banner towards top of skirt lost in the folds so it's always illegible
>bows either disappearing in the mess or clashing terribly
>looks both faded and shiny like a taobao poly disaster
>>
>>10495935
Did you read the original comment though? We're complaining about those people at meets that wear ugly normie coats when they've been in the fashion for 5+ years. Some meets I've been to are indoor/outdoor so we even get pictures outside.
>>
>>10495938

AYRT, that makes sense! It may just be my taste then; I prioritize more daily "wearable" items and would like to see them make more of those (I actually own a few of the dresses in >>10495757)

Selfishly, I would also want to see perhaps a tea-length Antoinette OP or Fiore (pic related) released in Cream/OffWhite. I have Fiore in Rose/Wine and if they had it in a more traditional "wedding" color I could definitely see myself getting married in that dress. Those are definitely far-fetched, though.
>>
>>10495959

I'm >>10495809 and I wear loliable classic granny boots I find online from brands like born and cobb hill. Also thermal tights.

Of note, I haven't really felt the need, but if you're out for extended periods of time (think 40 min or more) I used to wear toe warmers when skiing. That might be more useful. Toe warmers are kind of proof that everyone gets cold toes, even if they're wearing north face and wool socks with their ski boots.
>>
>>10495879
Another aspect of farutetto's popularity might be that it's one of very few MM dresses with a big back shirring panel.
>>
>>10495935
That's not what they were talking about. I know exactly what they mean. North face and weird puffy windbreaker jackets with a sweet or gothic coord was common in my old comm, nobody was wearing a nice wool peacoat. We never stayed outside longer than maybe 30 minutes to walk places. The weather would be from 45-35 F at the fall meets, above freezing or I wouldn't go.

All the lolita coats I have are comfy at this temp besides the sweatshirt type AP parkas. Usually I can stay out for about an hour or two in my AP or Baby coats depending on the wind

If you ever get to that stage of your life, you could definitely ask a seamstress to make you a wedding dress in that style. It wouldn't have to be an exact replica if it was full length - years ago someone did that with BtssB Pockets Embroidery but with little puff sleeves instead of straps

The "one brand defines lolita" thing has been around forever among perma-itas and noobs. ime it comes from girls who desperately want to wear AP but can't because they're too broke or fat, or too ugly to pull it off.

In a sense it's accurate. AP definitely "defines" sweet lolita, and lolita as a whole to some extent. It's the biggest and most successful brand with the most international reach. It's had the highest number of iconic blood bath releases. It tends to be one of the earliest to jump on trends or lead them. And of all the brands it's probably had the most reach outside of our jfash community, in that it's been worn by celebrities and normies who are into 'harajuku style' and kawaii things might recognize the brandname.

I think noobs and permaitas pick up on that and it makes them mad. They might be able to squeeze into some lame secondhand meta fully-shirred skirt, or bodyline, get a fattychan dress from taobao, but they can't afford/fit the cool dresses. And either they wind up in comms surrounded by girls who CAN wear AP and other nice brands while they're in shitty clothes, so they get bitter. Or they wind up in a comm of perma-itas who talk shit about brand non-stop, so they get bitter.

And even if they could have an AP dress there's a good chance they can't afford everything else in the coord. Or they're ugly and can't pull off such an outlandish style. So they feel like it doesn't suit them, they feel bad, and that makes them more angry bc all their adorable lolita dreams have been destroyed.
>>
do people actually think AP is small?
I recently got mcd and the full back shirring is ridiculous (esp with no corset lacing). the dress is soo roomy there is no way that it would fit the average Japanese girl properly.
so sick of hearing people complain about size when they are 30 pounds overweight. especially when AP offers way more shirring than the average Japanese brand
>>
>>10497976
Yes, but only fatties think that. No one who’s normal sized thinks AP is small.
>>
Why is this board so dead?
>>
>>10497976
I don't, but Western lolitas complain about it all the time because they're too fat or tall or what have you. I often wish I was part of the Asian lolita community instead because I feel like this size sperging is really exclusive to the Western community and it's incredibly tiring.
>inb4 there are asian fatties/tall-chans too!!!
Yeah, but I doubt there are as many sperging about it constantly.
>>
>>10497976
Their older dresses are small but from 2012 onward just about every JSK fits 100 cm busts comfortably. And their current OPs are around 94 cm bust/ 74 cm waist which is definitely not small, but closer to the higher end of western average (not Amerifats). I’m a fatty myself but MCD and CCC fits loosely on me.
>>
>>10497976
I'm tall but AP is generally fairly roomy on me. Mostly it's the goddamn high waists and too-sleeves that cause some problems, but the measurements themselves are perfectly fine. There's some older (pre-2007) pieces that are too small, but modern AP is huge
>>
>>10497986
*that are too small for me personally
>>
>>10497986
Remember when AP thought sleeves too long were cute? Bring it back AP, I needed that length.
>>
>>10497976
AP's not small by any means, but their dresses are definitely made with a small cup size in mind even when they technically fit a bigger chest. That's fine though, their main market doesn't usually have huge titties.
>>
>>10497986
High waist dresses can go burn in a ditch
>>
>>10497994
Agree with this. I’m at 98cm bust but I get definite boob loaf even on dresses that go up to 120cm. It’s like >>10497959 said, it may fit but it still doesn’t look great and that was disappointing when I first got into lolita and got my first AP dress in the mail. Some people don’t take disappointment well and get bitter. Ive learned to have an eagle eye for cuts because there are some with a larger cup cut than others, regardless of actual max shirring stretch
>>
>>10497981
Yeah but people can lose weight I can’t lose 5 inches off my height lmao. I get where you’re coming from but one is a permanent condition, the other one can be changed
>>
>>10497981
Yeah but you can always lose the weight, good luck trying that with height. Underskirts are ugly 99% of the time so a lot of tall lolitas just get screwed
>>
>>10495419

>>
>>10498061

>>
>>10498061
$0. I don’t care if people alter their own brand as long as they do it well, but it’s not something I’d ever buy. Maybe some bigger AP if the alteration was taking it in, but alternations are always to make dresses bigger and I don’t need that.
>>
>>10497959

Thanks for the reply. I guess I never really knew what lolita looks like to outsiders and newbies, if I had to pick a defining brand it would be either btssb with shimotsuma monogatari (kamikaze girls), or Moitie with Mana/Malice Mizer. International reach would've been Meta, which was the first brand to accept foreign payment and ship internationally without needing an SS, or h.Naoto, which Amy Lee from Evanescence wore. Would never have figured AP as being 'defining' due to being worn by western celeb/normies.

This is such a shitty attitude to have, though. When I joined I was too big for VM and btssb but at least I knew enough to keep my mouth shut. I'm not even really sure she's bright enough to realise that people are calling her out because she's basically spewing hate-talk.

It also kills me that she's so fixated on AP's "style". They have so many releases even lolitas have trouble remembering them, and AP quite often releases blunders (Radioactive Cupcake for eg). No one's going to bother whether she wears well-styed Meta/taobao/Bodyline vs AP anyway. So her misery is all entirely self-inflicted over things that don't matter, but now she's going further trying to get a hate group started so they can pick on other girls who don't even have anything to do with her. What a mess.

Anyhow, thanks for the perspective.
>>
>>10498061
Around $75-100, I personally consider altered brand to be on par with damaged items and should be priced as such. Now with that being said if someone wants to pay loads of money for it, hey it’s their money and I’m not going to reeee about it.
>>
>>10498061

>>
>>10498074
Before Social media took off, Baby was king. After Instagram, it's AP. AP is way more photogenic? Idk something about it just draws people to it
>>
New Meta release today. Has anyone gotten their plus plus size before? I'm curious to see the construction of it
>>
>>10498061
It would depend on what the alteration was and how skillfully it was done. For the most part I'd consider the piece "damaged" and even if I'd be happy to buy it I wouldn't pay full price.

But on the other hand I could see paying even $150 for something really awesome, like... idk, if someone took a Guardian Unicorn dress and turned it into a Cinema Doll style skirt. With the dropped waist, and all the embellishments and stuff. Or if they took something like the Dream Bear OP and made a JSK version that still had the cute collar details and was no longer high waisted.

If the end result was as good as the original piece, or had some modification that I thought would make the dress look better, I might be very interested. But I've never seen something like that, just people pulling out shirring or adding janky extra panels to make it bigger.

I think 10-20 years ago that would be accurate about BtssB and MmM being the defining brands! A lot of lolitas who joined the fashion in the late 90s to late 00s got interested through visual kei or jfash-centered media like kamikaze girls and Nana. Lots of people also got into it because of anime like Kuroshit, or other weeb interests.

But I think that's shifted a lot in the last decade. A lot of that stuff is 20 years old now, or more. It's dated. Lolita and mainstream fashion have both changed a lot, but I think the biggest change is how people are introduced to the fashion. Now most people will find it on instagram, or they'll discover it through some related cute asian fashion style. There's a lot less weebs and a lot more kpop stans. And the brand they'll see the most of is AP, which shapes their perspective of the fashion as a whole.

Moitie matters to us oldfags because to us Mana-sama is like the king of the whole fashion. But to someone who joined in the last five years Moitie is probably less relevant than Boz or Sheglit. Likewise with Baby, Vivienne Westwood, etc.
>>
>>10498096
>Vivienne Westwood
Has never been a lolita brand anyway. They’ve made things that fit the aesthetic and are famous among lolitas for their RHS and orb necklaces, but it’s a normie luxury brand. Regular lolita shoes aren’t anywhere near £500.
>>
>>10498098
Vivienne Westwood had a whole line in the 80s called the “mini-crini” which used historically inspired crinolines for gothic/punk-leaning looks, often paired with RHS. If she didn’t heavily inspire early lolita, I’d be absolutely gobsmacked. Just because RHS are expensive doesn’t make VW not an important brand to lolitas, newbie.
>>
>>10498121
It’s still not a lolita brand
>>
>>10498125
Id put it in the same category as Pink House.
Some is lolita, lots of it is not but both have been extremely influential to the lolita aesthetic.

Again, thanks for the perspective. Sheds light on girls who don't seem to see any of it as holding sentiment, it makes sense if they only ever saw it as a fleeting instagram trend.

Agreed. Some of AP's stuff straight up won't even fit smaller people without looking like a tent.
>>
>>10498061
Depends what it is and what the alteration is. If it's altered smaller, I'd definitely be more interested. Or added features like pockets. At most I'd pay retail for whatever it is or the market rate. I wouldn't pay more for it unless you could tell from the pictures it was really well done. But it has to be well done for me to even consider it in the first place.
>>
>>10498061
I’m not against altering, but I just don’t know why someone would want to buy brand altered like this. That Dreamy Dollhouse just looks so bad. It’s like when AP puts in full back shirring but the front of the garment is the same size and the cut of the bust is still shallow. It’s just not going to look good even if technically it’s bigger. Why would you want to wear some thing that looks like garbage? I think they’d be much better off turning the dress into a skirt or using the fabric to remake the bodice completely. Adding side panels is just the worst, laziest way to make a dress bigger. I’d never buy a dress that was altered like that. There are older AP prints I’d love to wear but I’m too big for that I would consider buying if it was altered correctly, but I don’t see that happening because prints are just so hard to alter. I have bought old school that was altered bigger but you can’t even tell because they did such a good job. They completely took the bodice off the dress and the bodice was made two inches larger because I took it to a place that does bespoke clothing, not the lady at the dry cleaner who mostly just hems pants. It cost $150 but it was worth it to me because I loved the dress. I didn’t butcher the waist ties, either. I found matching fabric. It took forever and I had to go to a bunch of fabric stores, but I eventually found the perfect shade. I guess it helps that it was a non-print dress, so there’s that. When they reattached the skirt they completely re-gathered it evenly all around. None of this side panel triangle-shaped dart garbage. Gosh that dreamy dollhouse is hard to look at. The way it’s a triangle that comes down so that the zipper part didn’t have to get re-set is awful. Bad. Bad alteration.

My original plan was to add it all to the bodice but if the torso is too long in proportion to the skirt it looks strange. I've seen that happen in custom taobao dresses. If I ever do slight alterations to improve the fit of a dress (longer straps mostly solve the majority of my issues), I also like to add pockets/a second pocket. If I'm going to "ruin" a dress, may as well increase functionality.
>>
Maybe it's because I have made my own clothes for years, but I find it so much easier to make a dress from scratch than alter an existing dress. I've altered a couple dresses and they turn out nicely because I spend time finding matching trim, looking for less desirable damaged pieces for extra matching fabric so I can preserve waist ties, etc., but I would rather just find some cute kokka border print cotton and a nice comfortable lining fabric and make my own if I want an OTT sweet look, or solids, velvets, and allover florals for handmade old school.

I'm probably somewhat biased because I don't really get obsessed with specific prints in lolita to the point I feel like I HAVE to have them and wear them to appreciate them and enjoy the fashion.
>>
>>10495419

Idk if this has been brought up in another thread, but what does everyone think of the new petticoats Lor and Ghostgirlgoods are making in partnership with that Dancewear company?

It seems pretty cool that they're working with a local business and sort of reminding newbies they need a goddamned petti.
>>
>>10498511
I didn't watch the full vid bc I have plenty of pettis and bloomers, but the prices were really reasonable. It would be awesome to have a reliable North American maker. I get tired of waiting for months for basic pieces.

The only thing that concerns me is the etsy page made it sound like they'll only be accepting orders in sporadic batches. In which case, that's just as annoying as waiting months for shipping.
>>
>>10498531

The video mentioned it being a temporary thing to help the business stay afloat and sort of test run, which it seemed like they will continue should things be successful. If I can afford to (rona job loss) before preorders and all close, I'll definitely support them since my only good current pettis are low-poof for old school after a wardrobe cleanout.
>>
>>10498502

I have this same line of thought, but somehow I'm still always lusting after some brand stuff. Not even because of something as shallow as the print, but ironically enough, because I can sew, sometimes it's the fabric that gets me.

It's great that we can now buy yuwa, kokka, spoonflower prints, but I've never been able to find chocolate jacquards, cute sweet flocked fabric, or whatever that stuff that SDC is made of. Not only that, they're pretty consistently one level above others -- the screen printed Kingdom dress from Baroque might look similar to SDC but the drape, the fabric, the level of detailing are entirely different. I've bought lolita-printed polyester from taobao brands, and also bought AP polyester dresses, and quite frankly they don't really compare. As much as cgl wants to diss AP polyester most of the time it just drapes better and is much hardier than the other stuff.

I mean, I agree it's easier to just make a dress from scratch, but I can still see why people would take a dress and alter it just because the materials are just rare and different. Even the fabric for Dreamy Dollhouse is cotton twill, which kokka/yuwa/etc rarely use, or maybe they just really like the novelty embroidered tulle lace, or whatever else.
>>
>>10498442
I thought my dress from them was really good for the price. Their custom sizing was also on point. My dress was very heavy though, it weighted more than 2kg.
>>
>>10498544

Your response got me thinking and I looked it up and there are places that do custom jacquard fabrics. When I have some more time it seems like something worth looking into depending on pricing; the stuff I found was US based. Idk if I'd do a chocolate jacquard cause that feels like weird copycatting of AP but other more textured prints could be pretty cool!

I've always been into handmaking stuff in general so stuff like the AH/Dandy Puppetrois laser cut looking AP style jewelry or new ways to create iterations on aesthetic choices or materials brands have used seem really fun to explore in personal handmade pieces! (probably not economical to try to do for profit though based on the DP prices of their first release)

If it's smaller and done by a professional I'd pay retail price because I'd have to do the same for myself anyway. I've always sold my altered brand at lower prices though, because of this prevailing sentiment that the dress is considered "damaged" after alterations have been made regardless of source.

For the jacquard, you could probably do pretty much any sweet theme and it'd be pretty novel, what's commercially available is usually grandma couch florals. You could pretty much just arrange them the old fashioned way (like a damask pattern, but with candy and cake instead of florals).

Do post your findings, I always believed the machine setup costs made it so it's difficult to custom it in small quantities; it'll be interesting to find someplace that will do it. Heck I'd even take 10metres of it, the rest can probably be dyed different colourways or something. So long as I don't have to commit to, like, 300yards of it.

There's a lot of makerspaces for rent now, apparently some libraries have them too, so lasercutting isn't really expensive (I don't think it was expensive to begin with, any signmaker can usually custom cut some acrylic, just that they might not want to deal with small fry customers who aren't ordering large signboards or 100s of corporate gifts). So if you want to be a third AH/DP, this actually isn't hard or expensive to try out.

Where I think people get lazy is with finishing the edges so that they don't cut you, cute designs that aren't directly copying AP, and with getting interesting matching findings -- there's something about the plastic stuff, you can't really just whack it on a metal finding and call it a day, there's gotta be some shiny beads around it or something, otherwise it does really look like a piece of plastic on a metal chain.

>Are you planning to buy any new pieces before the end of the year?

>What was your favorite print release this year?
Don't really have one. The only prints I bought this year are secondhand things. Maybe Little Witch? If the hype dies down I might get it.
>What was your favorite non-print release this year?
Probably meta's sailor series, just bc I love em and it's smth that stands out in my memories.
>Favorite non-dress releases? (jewelry, purse, shoes, jacket, etc.)
Those mask clips Baby did. Wish I'd gotten one...
>Which brand do you think had the strongest releases over all?
Probably Meta, which wins mainly bc of the disappoints Baby and AP have done this year.

Baby's upcoming cat symphony clusterfuck.

probably aatp, but that's nothing new
>>
>>10498832

Replicas are probably abysmally cheap poly and might melt and stick to things if the heat from the iron gets too high though right?
>>
>>10498995
They're not cotton but some cheap polyester so they'd absolutely melt. I'll probably take the lace off and use it for something else and make pillows out of them or accessories for when/if I ever buy the real ones. (I did think about that one poor anon's ironboard case, classic)

>>10499053
That definitely isn't how tax deductions work
>>
>>10499070

Did they disappoint you by having fatty sizes at all or are the normal sizes now too big? I had always heard Meta standard sizes sort of always ran a little big even before the plus and plus plus sizes. They're also catering to tallitas too, to be fair, in addition to fats.

does it look dumb to wear usakumya with AP?
I'm making a coord with cookie cream collection and kumakumya, it's cute, but feels wrong/kinda off
>>
>>10499234
If I had a nickel for every time I heard this question I’d be rich. It’s fine
>>
>>10499234

Depends on your coord I guess. Personally I think kumakumya would be better as she's nearly the same colour as the cookies anyway. The white usakumya you probably want to check whether her bow colours go okay with the rest of your coord, and whether she's too white for your coord.

If you're asking about mixing brands, you should know that the black usakumya comes with blue eyes and girls commonly match that version with black x blue Moitie.
>>
>>10499234
considering non of AP's mascots are even half as cute as Usa/Kumakumya, I'd say its not an issue
>>
secret
>>
>>10499272
Based opinion; kumyas are just objectively cuter than most AP mascot plushes or bags.

AP mascots look cute in the prints to me, but then look super awful in 3D. And Milky Bear is just weirdly basic and uninspired to me.
>>
>>10499276
agree, most of the print animals are so cute and then as plushies they look very soulless lmao
I do like chick-chan though, but even then its just a chick, not a brand mascot

They already have released a plus size coat this year, though its a cape so I'm not sure why they even bothered (more length maybe). I meant actual coats with sleeves. Cloaks are easy to find in plus sizes or make oneself. Coats are trickier. And like >>10500371

Is it just me or are sales moving really slowly lately? I get new views and favourites on Lacemarket, but no inquiries. I usually price my items reasonably and sell rather quickly, bit right now is really eh. Does anyone else experience this?
>>

>>
>>10500667
Same, I've done multiple price drops too but I'm running out of price drops without pricing ridiculously low. Might just have to wait until people have money again
>>
>>10500672
Yeah that’s my problem as well. I feel like I have to either underprice my items or wait even longer.
>>
>>10500637

Neither are quite the same as a coat though which was my point.
>>
>>10500667
Same. My listings have generally over 300 views and 10-20 favorites and they just don't sell. In the past I would be able to sell items with less than 50 views. My prices are reasonable, too. I don't get it.
>>
>>10500667
I guess it depends? All my things sell out within the first listing. Last month something got a bid within the first hour and sold for BIN a few hours later.
And I've mostly only sold my taobao shit. (Sold one burando thing so far)
>>
>>10500667
Out of taxes/rona money, buyer exhaustion, a lot of new brand releases people would rather buy.
>>
>>10500667
Well, in the US we're in the middle of a recession where multiple job professions have disappeared. And since the GOP couldn't be bothered to pass a long term stimulus bill, people are missing rent and etc.

Same thing is happening all over, hobbies take a seat behind rent/bills/etc
>>
>>10500664
I know this sounds normie af, but why can't people just dress normally? It feels like all these shitty takes on lolita come from itas who just want to be praised.
>>
>>10500667
Older and popular modern AP sweet still sell pretty fast
>>
>>10500664

>>
>>10500667
like everyone else said, people are running out of rona money.

But also, it's November! It's pretty normal for sales to droop a bit this time of year because people are prioritizing their holiday spending. Personally I placed a few big SS orders in October and I'm waiting for the last big burando releases of the year, but I go big on Thanksgiving and Xmas so that's where my money is going.
