Has anyone catch their cosplay being mocked off on normie social media?
>>
No, but I’m sure it’s happened. Every year at acen there’s a bunch of locals passing by the con who’ll ask for a picture of me with my friends even though we’re all cosplaying from different things. Sure some of them might look at the work we’ve put into our costumes and think it’s neat, but I’m sure at least a few of the people who have taken these photos over the years have done so in a mean spirited way
>>
>>10385654
Same. I can feel their intentions when they ask me for a photo.
>>
>>10385654
The picture someone got of me was actually from the route to acen. I was running late to a shoot so I already had makeup and full costume on. A friend sent me the link to some guy's social media where he tried to roast me, but Chicagoans have gotten desensitized to cosplayers and my costume was just a jumpsuit and bear makeup so the post was really underwhelming and died quickly.

Another time, I never found the post, but I fell asleep on the train coming home from con and woke up to a guy taking pics of me. He said he felt bad tho and wanted me to know he just wanted to post on fandom twitter.

dammm I hate normies so goddam much

Last year I went to a convention that happened to be in the same building as a sewing/crafts expo. My buddies and I wandered in while searching for good photo locations and the boomer ladies loved my cosplay. It was pretty wholesome until we got yelled at by a Karen to leave
>>
>>10385650
A couple of years ago I was at the local city con and a group of lads came up to me and were harassing me a bit when I was on my own. Got to my friends and fortunately they broke off. Then I found out they slapped a bunch of stickers to my outfit that one of the stands were giving out. Turns out they were doing it to a few people, not sure if they got kicked out or not.

They were very much not the typical con-goer type, and I guess they just swung by since train and entry tickets were fairly cheap.

>It was pretty wholesome until we got yelled at by a Karen to leave
what, why?
>>
>>10385650
While I was at AX a few years ago, I caught some local trying to sneak a photo of me over her shoulder while I was waiting for the shuttle to the convention center. If I hadn’t been such a self conscious wimpy teen at the time I might’ve told her off, but I think I shouted “thanks for the pic” before she walked too far away.
I thought for sure LA people were used to this nonsense at least, but apparently not.
>>
>>10386837
Because we were in the sewing expos space, apparently.
>>
>>10386770
What a shitty thing to do. I'm glad the post didn't do well. No free clout
>>
>>10386770
>but I fell asleep on the train coming home from con and woke up to a guy taking pics of me. He said he felt bad tho and wanted me to know he just wanted to post on fandom twitter.
That's kind of wholesome
>>
>>10386972
Someone taking pics of you while you sleep is NOT cute wtf
>>
>>10386972
No it's terrifying, are you a man
>>
>>10387179
>>10387171
You know, I originally read it as "cosplayers out in the wild" and "kakashi has had a hard day of accounting class" things. Maybe because his intention was to post it on twitter for funnies and not for like "personal use", but upon a second and more clear reading I def wouldn't feel comfortable if someone did that to me.
>>
I've found people I know in bad cosplay/make up threads. And I agree with then, they looked fucking terrible.
>>
>>10385650
I got roasted on Weibo. Twice.
>>
>>10387196
That was actually what he was going for. I was cosplaying Toad so he was supposedly making a "hard day in the mushroom kingdom" post. While he was nice and apologetic afterwards, taking pictures of people sleeping, cosplay or nah is still really weird.

>>10385650
all fags. useless people. all of you.

Not even going to give you a (you), idiot.
I would bet my ass that most of /cgl/ users have jobs while /pol/ have a bunch of neets

I know someone who did a Dark Link cosplay with facepaint and was accused of blackface on Tumblr. He is black.
>>
When I went to a convention in middle school with a group of friends, most of them had a costume but I didn't. One of my friends always tailored and made a bunch of her own costumes. She lent me her John Egbert costume to wear so I wouldn't feel left out. I tried out the wig but it looked dumb with my face shape so I just decided to go without it.
Felt kinda self-conscious about it since I had long brown hair and it was barely the character, my friends said it could be like a female spin on the character or something idk.
People would still want to take photos with me and genuinely complement me though. which I was surprised about. I remember some girl was gushing over me while I was waiting in line for the tickets.
There are definitely pictures out there, but I've never seen em and I hope I don't lol, I was a damn gremlin in grade school.
>>
>>10387429
You must know that while tumblr is filled with people with brainworms, there is also a bunch of trolls. I used to follow a bunch of these when I was an edgy teenager
>>
My local newspaper published a photo of my cosplay group and it received a bunch of haha's from the most hideous people I have seen on facebook. You can make fun of me whatever you want but at least have the decency of being good looking
>>
>>10386786
Is this Tekko?
>>
>>10387844
No idea what that is, so probably not.
>>
>>10385650
Went to the Texas Renfest one year as Nu Pennywise. Someone on their facebook called me Pennywide.

I responded by stating I'm actually his lesser known cousin; Poundfoolish
>>
Weirdly seen the opposite more often. People with very simple or not that great cosplays reasonably ignored by the cosplay community, but getting their "talent, creativity, and artistry" lauded by normie communities. Way back in high school I was objectively a shit cosplayer but everyone just thought it was THE COOLEST THING EVER because I was the only/first cosplayer they knew.
>>
>>10385650
I'm a fat dude and I wore a sexy women's costume at one of the larger American cons.
My cosplay's gone viral on different social media sites in multiple language circles. Never seen anything but supportive comments. i dunno how to feel about that.
>>
>>10390080
fuck thats funny
>>
>>10385650

The guy was completely self-aware and took all sorts of funny photos, including one where he was talking to Lucy from Peanuts cosplayer with her famous psychiatric help stand.

>>10390115

How would you feel if someone took an Onion article seriously?
>>
>>10390080
>Pennywide
Why did I laugh so hard at this
>>
>>10385654
This. I guarantee It's happened cause mainly I crossdress. And of course Wasn't good at the start. Also, one year I tried "less is more" form makeup. God the cringe

>>10390080
Deeecent

>>10387429
Weird.i haven't seen him do it for about three years, but iknow a guy who did a black faced dark link and I've never seen anyone bitch about it
>>
>Some person walking to a con dressed as a Pokemon
>Several kids recognise the character and want photos with them
>Some hysterical moron posts the photo on a local FB group
>OMG WATCH YOUR KIDS WHO IS THIS WEIRDO DRESSED IN AN ODD COSTUME?!?!
>Promptly gets mocked
>mfw I didn't screenshot it before it got deleted

Looks like ben affleck
>>
>>10391251
I love when normie behaviour backfires.
>>
>>10385650
I'm in a really old photo(2003 I think) that's been laughed at for years, but it was an intentionally ridiculous cosplay group. Some people just don't seem to get that it was supposed to be funny.
>>
>>10391641
For the love of god, stop saying you are famous for a picture without posting it. We want to see
>>
>>10391641
Are you the neckbeard sailor moon guy?

I chucked, but only because it's extremely cute seeing Fatman
>>
>>10393929
>fat
he's full bear mode. Look at those muscles
>>
>>10393536
i unironically saw boner robin in the meat flesh at ALA 2019, he runs cosplay deviants now and tried to invite some friends of mine on stage with the strippers
>>
>>10385650
Pic not related I assume? The ideal crime fighting body right there not gonna lie.
>>
Some Japanese fanboy (for idol gaming) took a screen shot of my friend’s Instagram and he posted it on his own account and fat shamed her. She experienced other forms of bullying before so it didn’t shake her much. Plus she’s not that fat.

I take public transit to get to cons in my city and go in complete cosplay and often by myself. Most people keep to themselves and will give compliments here and there, only once did a crazy old guy start yelling at me on the subway. I generally just brush it off and go on my phone. Most ppl know what cosplay is and there are so many alternative fashions here no one really blinks at a cosplayer.

I went to anime north a few years ago and took a route I wasn't familiar with but would apparently get me there. I got on the wrong bus that was more express and went right by the convention centre and had to get off at a mall in the suburbs. I was waiting for my next correct bus and there were two teenage girls there with me who really liked my cosplay. Took selfies with me. It was pretty great. I've also had great conversations with bus drivers and old ladies while commuting, so if your friendly it's usually fine.

Once at fan expo toronto a Karen asked me what was going on since the Ripleys Aquarium is right beside the convention centre. I had to really dumb it down for her to essentially "do you know Startrek conventions" and boomer's typically know what that is.
>>
>>10407017
make fun of his tiny penis and sexless culture in return
>>
>>10407017
Anime fans have a warped perception of fatness anyway, good thing it didn't affect her.
>>
>>10398893
I saw him at Momocon. My bf and I went into the Cosplay Deviants booth and my bf was telling me about how Boner Robin runs the site. I was incredulous and laughing about it, and I said something to the effect of "well he finally put that boner to use". Turns out he was sitting at the counter 2 feet behind us. I want to die whenever I think about it.
>>
No but I've seen just about all my other friends get mocked. Shit's hilarous cause all my cosplays are zero effort shit with my big fat gut hanging out.
>>
>>10385650
normie here
i never done cosplay or go to a con

people dont care, at best its a "look a nerd convention" "cool its that guy from metal gear 5" "that chick look hot" "haha he looks bad in that"

thats the maximum atention you will get unless you pull a really good cosplay or a really bad one

you are being delusional
Normies tend to be so uninteresting and devoid of any talent that they recour to make fun of people like these because 'mocking edgy humor' is the easiest kind of humor to do..
>>
Not posted on social media but I was cosplaying as Zenitsu and was having an anxiety attack outside the con once and a group of bald beer belly men came up to me and demanded a picture, i'm sure ended up in their shit whatsapp lads group. (britfag)
I did say no but they took one anyway, points for being in character tho?
>>
>>10411440
should've fallen asleep then did some ass kicking maneuver
