Is it ok to go barefoot to a con?
>>
>>10273976
sounds gross and uncomfortable, wear flipflops or something easy to take off and when you want to take accurate pics you can take them off? if you're real dedicated to accuracy
>>
>>10273976
i'd say no but take them off for photos if you really want to
>>
>>10273976
No, it's gross and you'll get infections or fungi. Make yourself some invisible shoes with clear shoe inserts and bra straps, keep your bare feet for the photoshoot.
>>
If the con has a carpet it shouldnt be too bad

I mean Ive seen other people walk around barefoot at cons so its not unheard of
>>
>>10274031
>you'll get infections or fungi
most of the ground isn't a restroom.
>>
>>10273976
No, that’s fucking disgusting
>>
>>10273976
You shouldn't (for your own safety), at least bring slippers or some other shoe you can take off quickly for photos
>>
>>10274052
But people who walk through restrooms don't wash their shoes before exiting. Sure, a lot of the ground isn't that dirty, but over a whole day of walking through and around the con you're bound to step into something nasty.
>>
>>10274062
This is essentially my opinion too. I love walking barefoot and at some events you actually can because they banned glass for example. However cons are usually in urban areas where such precautions can't be made. The streets can be a lot more dangerous for your feet, so yeah. For your own safety, I'd wear something easy to slip off for pics.
>>
>>10274066
Properly callused feet have a strong barrier against infection. Nothing is going to enter the body unless you have a deep cut.
>>
only if you want a staph infection
>>
>>10273976
no , think of the gross stuff that get smeared on the pavement, convention floor
>>
Are your shoes covered in shit when you go to a con? Then why would feet be any different.
It doesn't affect you anyway if someone wants to go barefoot
>>
>>10274052
>>10274126
Do u know how germs work
>>
>>10274207
Do you? Walking on a sidewalk or a convention hall or a hotel lobby isn't going to give you a fungus or infection. It isn't the right environment for those sorts of things to grow, too dry, too many cleaning chemicals.
>>
>>10274212
This. Especially on a hot day. There would need to be a substantial level of bacteria or spores present in the first place (unlikely) and they would need to survive the harsh environment and then somehow find their way into your system, which bacteria can't do unless there's a skin break. Fungus can take hold more easily, but you just aren't going to pick it up in large quantities outside of a very damp and high traffic area such as a shower room.

People in many parts of the world go barefoot, it ain't no big deal.
>>
>>10274219
what about parasites? or those bugs that grow in flesh? i think they're called melon worms or something?
>>
>>10274227
Most parasites are transmitted from skin to skin or hair to hair direct contact. You can get scabies from sharing clothes but that's very different from just walking around.

Think of all the bare surfaces you touch with your hands.
>>
>>10273976
im not gonna sit here and tell people what they cant and cant do but i side eye in disgust everyone i see barefoot at cons.
>>
https://www.andsewingishalfthebattle.com/invisible-shoes/
>>
>>10274415

They're just feet, anon. Everyone has them, including you.
>>
>>10274431
And everyone shits but I don't want to watch it
>>
>>10274052
Stray dogs, cats, and homeless people poop and piss all over convention center grounds.
>>
Ok but what if the ground is super hot? People have gotten burns on the soles of their feet from walking on the sidewalk. And what about sharp objects?? There’s drunk people everywhere, what if someone stomps on your foot?
Shoes aren’t only there for show, they are meant to protect you.

how did we survive for millions of years without shoes?
>>
>>10274922

what if bees are attracted to you after you step in someones gum?
>>
You don't go barefoot in public areas, most places prohibit it. What makes conventions different? There's even the invisible shoe method, there's no point in going barefoot.
>>
>>10275050
Agreed, there’s just no point in risking potential injury to not wear shoes. Wear clear crocs, or something.
>>
>>10275050
There's no law against it in most outdoor spaces, only indoor places have such rules
>>10274922
as someone who grew up in the country, big kek. That's what calluses are for
>>
>>10275076
Conventions are more often than not indoors.
>>
>>10274227
you're not going to get melon worms at the fucking baltimore convention center
>>
>>10275050
>most places prohibit it
lmao where?
I'd love to see the laws you have on the books so I know what dystopian shithole I need to stay away from.
>>
boy there sure are a lot of foot fetishists trying to rationalize not wearing shoes at a con in this thread
>>
>>10275107

do you seriously think everyone who goes barefoot to a con has a foot fetish?
>>
>>10275107
Right? If you’re going to cosplay a barefoot character use clear shoes. There’s absolutely no point in cosplaying barefoot. These scrotes should just admit they like feet
>>10275098
Restaurants, stores, all public places >>10275076
Conventions are mainly indoors
>>
>>10275098
>dystopian future
>being forced to wear shoes

What a simple life you must lead where that’s dystopian
>>
>>10273976
Not if your feet look like that.
>>
>>10275107
>have foot fetish
>don't think anyone should go barefoot to a con
>>
do you honestly think girls go barefoot at cons just to appeal to foot fetishists?
>>
>>10275098
Does it really matter if it's an actual law or not when the vast majority of businesses can and will turn you away for not wearing shoes?
>>
If you don't mind foot fungus or getting stepped on by an alt-girl with her brick platform shoes then by all means do it.
>>
>>10273976

There are online tutorials for "invisible" sandals you can make to seem barefoot in photos while still protecting your feet for a Moana or Luffy character who goes shoeless.

ex:https://www.andsewingishalfthebattle.com/invisible-shoes/
>>
>>10275098
There is now law

But establishments reserve the right to turn away anyone as long as it not on the grounds of race, religion, gender, disability

Do remember that Conventions and Hotel are also used by many professionals/businessmen. Establishments want to maintain acertain standard of clientele
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BK1kd6BSAzY

barefoot has many benefits
consider that shoes are unnatural and we evolved millions of years without the need for them
>>
>>10275457
People's foot shapes are actually super warped due to wearing shoes. Tribes of people who have never worn shoes have more spread-out toes and no useless hammer toes or squashed pinky toes.
>>
>>10275462

The shoes are less the problem and more the antiquated and overly standardized lasts that are still used to make them. Shoes should really have far more customization options to fit comfortably and healthily but mass manufacturing has limited that.
>>
>>10274126
Enjoy your athlete's foot
>>
>>10273976
I wouldn't, I'd wear some flesh colored socks at least.
>>
>>10275462
I grew up mostly not wearing shoes and as a result, my feet are wider that they usually make shoes it my size for.

what if you are in body paint then what should you wear to stop it rubbing off?
>>
>>10275492
Painting your body is your first mistake, wearing colored tights saves you money on paint because that's not cheap and application time, and you don't have to deal with it looking patchy or rubbing off.
>>
>>10275550
Or using an airbrush machine with mehron paint like every well known cosplayer
>>
>>10275915
Everyone I know does paint for the face and chest and tights/bodysuit/armsocks for the rest of the body
>>
>>10275915
>>10275933
It depends more on whether you're actually wearing it to a event or just doing a photoshoot. Airbrushing everything will give the best look and is a good idea for a photoshoot, but it's not really as practical for a con.

>>10275492
That said, use a sealer, even for just face paint. There are both purpose made products and diy routes (corn starch/baby powder and hairspray can work in a pinch). Don't be that dick that gets your paint all over.
>>
People do that in conventions all the with or without cosplay. Walking around gets tiring all the time especially at events like cons. I don't think it's weird for the cosplay but bring an extra pair of sandals or something just in case.
>>
>>10275972
Does this seal your flesh so that nothing applied to it can get out? I never knew about this, it seems useful so that your makeup doesn't run
>>
>>10276883
You know makeup setting spray exists right?
>>
>>10274031
Naw, floor germs will be the least of your problems if you step on something pointy and/or rusty. Enjoy your tetanus shots.
>>
>>10276915
It's a myth that rust increases risk of tetanus.
>>
>>10274052
Speak for yourself
>>
>>10274031
I haven't worn shoes in 20 years except to go in restraunts, and to cross hot tarmac, sometimes boots in a briar patch or very cold/snow, cosplaying characters with shoes, and that one time when I got pulled over in Alabama I pulled flipflops out of the glove box and slipped them on because driving barefoot is illegal for some stupid reason in that backward ass state.

Never got a foot fungus
My feet stay nice and dry in the sun and don't soak in nasty shoes all day like all the other swamp foots out there.
>>
>>10277507

Do you get a lot of creepy foot fetishists attention?
>>
Ya'll gonna get the foot fetish creeps Ya hear?
>>
>>10277556

Guys like legs boobs and ass too I guess I should kerp those coveted at all times

Oh wait guys also like faces time to hijab
>>
>>10277554
No
Sometimes I even wear shorts but a leg fetishist hasn't jacked off in front of me in public yet.
>>
Any con with any sense at all requires at least flip-flops or something to cover the soles.
>>

Does India even have anime cons?

I think it's cool when people go barefoot to a con. Most people don't do it a lot, but it's cool to see cosplayers doing it for the cosplay.

I went barefoot to a con once, it hurt a bit in the escalators on the way to the con but was okay.

I think people should be allowed to go barefoot, and I've never heard about a con banning it. Would be stupid.

I thought about this a lot for a Yunalesca, and decided I'd probably go with sheer hose and another layer of those tiny nylon footies that are meant to stay hidden in heels. I didn't end up doing the cosplay, but I'd say that is the only acceptable answer short of wearing something temporary except for pictures.

>>10273976
Absolutely not, not to mention (people in the PNW) spit on the ground all the time and throw their cigarette butts on the ground. Homelessness is a big issue and people just piss in the streets.

Gross

Anyone who says it's gross or disgusting is a mentally ill tranny. Nothing wrong with going barefoot. There people who live such lifestyles, so the haters are obviously dumbfucks who can't into reality

>>10273976
Bro, I've fuckin' trudged through third world countries without shit on my feet and I'm fine.

If you're worried about germs and shit, man up you fucking pussy.
But if you're worried about if the shut in pussies around you at the con will think your disgusting, then yeah you should put on some flip flops or some shit.

God I fucking hate how weak the standard American has become.
>>
>>10289617
What if they're a woman?

Does that change whether they're a pussy for not wanting to have gross shit on their feet?

It may be paranoia but people have gotten flesh eating bacteria resulting in amputations from small cuts in legs and feet that go unnoticed. Highly unlikely but another more common thing is tetanus and the shot you have to get is fucking huge and painful.

If they wanna do it sure they can but it isn't crazy that people would rather wear shoes out in public than not.
>>
>>10289617
>HERES WHAT I WENT THROUGH
>I fucking hate how weak the standard American has become.
So.. you’re mad because we aren’t in a third world country? Or you’re mad because we prefer basic hygiene?
>>
>>10289617

As someone living in and has visited other third world countries -- why the hell. Why did you have to go barefoot, or is that a weirdo tourist thing?
>>
>>10288292
I agree about the point that there are people who live such lifestyles. I've known two different people who always went barefoot everywhere, at least until it became very cold outside for one of them, and the other one went barefoot into the winter, and only stopped when tiny, pointy rocks were frozen into the ice making them into spikes.

I respect doing that, and it's so true, people are dumb. >>10289617 also said it right, you are a pussy and Americans (and people of other countries) are so pathetic and dumb.

>>10289622
Woman changes nothing. One of the two people I knew was a woman. There's no natural law that says women have to be weak pussies.

It's okay that people wear shoes in public, but don't disrespect the people who don't.
>>
>>10289617
>Bro, I've fuckin' trudged through third world countries without shit on my feet and I'm fine.
>If you're worried about germs and shit, man up you fucking pussy.
this Is one privileged take from whats probably a day tourist. I am lowkey insulted as someone who actually grew and lived in a 3rd world country (Philippines)

News flash: being barefoot outside the house is not the norm here. You might see some barefooted people in the streets, but its usually kids who come from really LOW rungs of society who cant afford to have a new change of clothes. I bet they would be happy to have footwear
>>
>>10289778
To add, just because we live/lived in a poor country doesnt mean its okay for us to step on human piss, dog poop, pigswill and carcass
>>
>>10289663
>or is that a weirdo tourist thing?

yt tourists want to pretend being “open minded” and “ woke” by ~living like the locals~

Like boo, get your pictures and just gtfo
>>
>>10289769

Nothing is wrong with them wanting to go barefoot, but it isn't being a pussy to care about not getting things caught in your feet or just not wanting to step in other people's trash.

This is a convention center floor. People will spill things and drop things and there will be city grime and dirt I imagine. Not wrong to like having feet bare but also not pussy behavior to want to avoid stepping directly on the potential trash with your bare feet either.

Just imagine a city like LA where human excrement is everywhere, then imagine comic con and walking around where people's shoes could be covered in all that crap. Sure you can be "tough" and deal with it but why bother when you can just keep flip flops on (even clear ones that don't show up in photos) instead and not step in all that crap?
>>
>>10289617
This post is insensitive to the actual people living in those countries with numerous people suffering from ringworm, tetanus, leptospirosis, elephantiasis, dengue etc... because unbelievable poverty could afford them cheap flip flops to protect them

But this privileged tourist wants too look ~TOUGH~ and ~BRAVE~ by choosing to go barefoot to stunt on his peers

Actually there’s a type of parasitic worm that will burrow through your skin, enter your blood stream, find its way to your lungs, then burrow through to your esophagus so that they can enter your intestines and soak up your digested food. Entering the body through the feet is what they’re known for.
They’re not common in more developed nations due to the prevalence of shoes but in some populations where shoes are uncommon the infection rate can be as high as 100%.

I don't know about you but I don't want a drunk congoer smashing my toes with their demonias.
If you don't want to wear shoes, you don't have to, but be aware that everyone who is wearing shoes is tracking around a lot of E. Coli and other bacteria that can lead to fungal infections like >>10290475 said. And yeah, you're not eating with your feet, there's no reason to constantly wash them, but just know that most people like to avoid skin contact with fecal matter and other germs. Not to mention that dirty feet in cosplay pictures are nasty as fuck.

maybe it depends on which con you go to how dirty the floor is
>>
Most people wear shoes and take them off for pictures. Somewhere there's a picture of me holding my friend's shoes in the background looking like an absolute beta.
>>
why do people here think it's nasty... the soles of your feet can be washed off, its like 6 cubic inches of skin that touches the floor, unless you have open wounds it is not like anything you step on will go anywhere else other than that tiny area of skin. just bring a disinfectant wipe in case you do step on something gross.
>>
>>10273976

>>
No. For several reasons.
>unsanitary. You may get an infection or fungi
>you may get hurt or step on sharp objects
>if you get hurt, you may be able to legally sue the con you are attending, hence why it is against con's policy to go barefoot
>feet get sweaty and you are exposing others to your feet sweat. Inconsiderate and gross.
>no shirt, no shoes, no service. You will be denied entry into the con by staff.
>>
>>10305943
Not that I disagree with you, but how sweaty can your feet get if you're already barefoot? Foot stank is the result of being trapped in a sweaty shoe all day, right?
>>
>>10275915
I cosplay the joker regularly and always ALWAYS airbrush and seal that shit. I use armsocks or tights if I do like the vacation joker but if my arms and hands are showing, airbrush it. Water based paints are liable to sweat off or run if it rains, and cream/grease paint get literally everywhere and both are hard to get solid.
>>
>>10306060
nta but that's not how sweating works. you don't get to pick where you sweat from or anything. i get really sweaty easily, mainly from feet, hands and pits, but i'm definitely not wearing gloves and socks and shit at home all day to do it.
>>
you Americans are so weird about taking off your shoes. (you dont even take them off inside your house) there's really nothing wrong with it, or is your immune system that bad? in facts, it's healthy to let your feet breathe once in a while.
I walk around barefooted all the time at home and outside around my house and it's the best feeling to be rid of those crampy shoes and socks

Tetanus shots I've heard are very painful and usually not neccesary until AFTER you step on something rusty unless you're in certain circumstances. People in the US rarely need to get them from what I know because we don't have as much exposure to random rusty shit piercing our skin in everyday life.

n-no it's a vaccine, you have to take it before you get exposed to something rusty. It's not really painful, just a standard shot and afterwards the spot might feel a bit sore but not really bad.
I'm from West-Europe so I think our living conditions are about the same. You can easily come into contact with rust, even in your own backyard.

I think the reason it was painful, is because it was not the vaccine but something they give you afterwards? In my country they give the vaccine to everyone, it's even standard in schools to give it to all children and I've never heard anyone complain about it being that painful.
I didn't think about the cost though because medicine (and especially the recommended vaccinations) is very cheap in my country. I understand now why you guys wouldnt get the shot.

Pretty much this. Unless its freezing or too hot or the ground is too rough. From personal experience you get used to it after awhile and your feet toughen up.

Footfag here. Barefooters should have their feet stepped on and most footfags should be pushed into traffic.
>>
>>10321175

What makes you think you are better than the rest of the footfags?
>>
>>10321190
Same thing that makes girls think they're different from other girls. He doesn't behave like the vocal minority who shitpost on the internet. 95% of footfags are regular people who know how to behave in public.
>>
>>10321190

Imagine you like women. Someone comes over and says "Hey, I heard you like women, so here's a few pictures" and proceeds to post hags and hambeasts. Immediately a pack of howling retards start screaming "OMG I LOVE WOMANZ! MOAR! MOAR!", encouraging the initial person to continue posting the stuff of vomit. Every time and everywhere until the fetish becomes any-woman-will-do, and it's relevant places and galleries become a photo collection of circus freaks and Resident Evil rejects.
At some point the cycle repeats itself, only this time the someone posts pictures of naked ugly women just standing there with nothing going on whatsoever. Like a Loomis proportion reference. And the howling retards again get excited over it until it becomes a thing. Also every time this happens, the howling retards make remarks like "I want to lick her bacteria-laced sweat" and "I want to sniff her bullybutton".

This is how most footfags are. They lust after every malformed chernobil foot they see. They want to sniff stench, and suck toes like toddlers. Sole pics are like staring at a medical reference diagram.
God damn fuck those disgusting guys and also fuck the creeps who take their private interest out in the public.
>>
>>10321251
The people you're describing are the 5% that >>10321216 is referring to.
That said, if you're a self-professed footfag and you don't like looking at feet or sucking toes or smelling or any of that then what the fuck do you do?

I have a female foot fetish but I would strongly recommend people who are wearing costumes of a barefoot character to just get some slip-on, nude colored covers. The kind girls wear inside flats, where they barely cover the toes. Barely noticeable and if you absolutely just must take them off, they’ll stuff easily into a pocket or waistband invisibly, and after the pic you can put them back on. Much better than walking all day barefoot in public areas.

Nayrt, but also American: my experience has been the same as WHO guidelines, you get vaccinated several times when you're little then another one every 10 years. It might just be my pitiful pain tolerance, but Tdaps from when I was 11 and 21 hurt like a bitch during AND after. The nurse even had me say a tongue twister for the former, presumably as a distraction.
Anyway, the "shot" they're talking about that you get when you're already injured (and the one my grandparents and mom threatened me with as a kid) is probably the TIG antibody meds. The only way you're getting an actual inactive tetanus vaccine in the ER is if you didn't get your childhood ones.

>>
>>
Going barefoot to a con is entirely dependent on you. As long as they don’t have a rule against it, it will be fine. However, there are quite a few things about going barefoot that most people overlook. If you’re the kind of person who regularly walks around barefoot, then you won’t have any issues, but if you wear shoes all the time, then there a lot of things that you need to take into account.

First of all is just how comfortable you are going barefoot. If you have very sensitive feet, then you will want to practice walking barefoot just so you get used to it. You may experience muscle soreness after a while, chapped skin, or you will just get fatigued from it.

If you have worn shoes all your life, then there are habits to how you walk that don’t translate well to walking barefoot. You can tell if someone doesn’t walk around barefoot regularly by how awkwardly they walk. Walking in shoes, we tend to get lazy and walk heel first. When walking barefoot, you need to walk on the balls of your feet instead, almost in a tip-toe walk. This is a more natural style of walking when not wearing padding under your feet, and will feel more comfortable. You will also want to lift your feet off the ground higher than you regularly would in shoes. It’s easy to accidentally brush your feet along the ground when walking which may lead to cuts or scratches if there’s something on the ground. Also pay attention to where your walking more closely so you don’t step on anything or stub your toe. Make sure that when you set your foot down, you’re setting it straight down to prevent scratching yourself. You can tell when someone isn’t used to being barefoot when you see them walk with a heel strike and they kind of stumble around and have an uneven gait for the above reasons so make sure to practice.
>>
Try going to a park, or a track, and walk/jog around on the grass to get a sense for how it feels and how your legs/feet move when barefoot. Then move onto different surfaces depending on what’s available to you (sand, soft/hard packed dirt, asphalt, etc) and practice walking with a forefoot strike and get comfortable with it. Of course wash your feet when you’re don’t, but also, pay attention to your body the next day as you may be using muscles that you haven’t used as much previously. You may have sore calves and arches, small scratches on your feet that you didn’t notice previously or slight bruising. Adjust your style of walking and practice until you can do it comfortably without too much soreness.

Finally, make sure to just take care of your feet in general. If you have feet in good condition, then people don’t really think about them, but if they’re nasty, then it’s like a big ugly mole on your face – it’s the only thing people will see when they look at you and they will be disgusted. Trim your nails, or get a pedicure. Use a pumice stone to remove any rough spots/dead skin on your feet. Put lotion on regularly to make sure that they are properly moisturized. The day of, make sure to keep them dry as moisture will attract dirt and debris. Bring along a cloth and some baby wipes so you can clean and dry them regularly. Finally if you still aren’t sure, bring a pair of slippers that you can wear if it becomes too much for you at any point.
>>

One thing that people always like to throw out is that you will get fungus, or ringworm, or athletes foot going barefoot.

No you won’t. It’s not possible. You can definitely get it if you take off your shoes, walk around barefoot and put them back on though.

Why?

Because Fungas, Ringworm, athletes foot all require a warm, dark and damp environment to grow and take hold. This is basic science, you all should know this.
What is warm, dark and damp? Shoes.

You can’t catch anything if you go barefoot and stay barefoot. Don’t put shoes on after you have taken them off.
>>
>>10425013
What makes you such an expert? What happens if you step on any of those when it’s just chilling on the ground?
>>
Holy shit this thread is old.
>>
Only times I’ve been barefoot at a con have been at waterpark cons and even then I put on flip flops until I was in the actual waterpark part of the hotel
>>
>>10425013
this is fucking dumb, animals that wear NOTHING regularly get fungal skin infections. you're more likely to be -exposed- to fungi in warm, damp environments, but your body is warm enough to support plenty of fungal life simply by being normal human temperature. there are also other specialized species such as intestinal parasites (hookworms are just one example) which are transmitted to humans through the soles of their feet. i ran around barefoot all the time as a kid, but it's ignorant, disingenuous bullshit to suggest that it's just risk free.
