I saw something today about how tagging other users and brands in your posts reduces visibility and reach, a lolita was apologising for not tagging where her coord was from or any friends in her pics. Is that true? If so then wtf? Surely Instagram benefits from tagging and would want to encourage it
>>
A while ago in one of these threads someone asked for good lolitas with few followers, and someone else replied with a gothic lolita who mainly wore old(?) moitie and posted a lot of detail shots of her clothes. She might've been Finnish, but I'm not sure (it's not ventovir though). I know it's a pretty vague description, but does anyone remember this and what her name was?
>>
Is there an official fanplusfriend ig account? Some account called Fanplusfriends started following me but on their official site they don't list Ig under their social media links.
So is that some creeper account pretending to be an indie brand?
>>
>>10135617
i don't know who that is but I would love some recommendations for good lolitas with few followers
>>
>>10135623
What do you count as few
>>
>>10135615
That's weird, I've never heard of anything like that and it doesn't sound like something IG would do
>>
>>10135615
Maybe it only reduces visibility in someones feed and shows up under tags more instead.
>>
>>10135625
anywhere from zero to a couple of hundred I guess? The exact number isn't super important, i mostly just want to find some sources of inspiration that aren't just the usual semi-efamous suspects that get posted all the time
>>
>>10135615
This isn't true at all, and people who believe it are retards.
>>
I don't know what's up with the algorithm now but I'm getting pretty much no interaction on my posts (less than 50 likes) when I'd usually get 300+.
Tags don't seem to help at all anymore. I just use instagram for fun so it's not a huge deal but it's definitely weird.

What is considered a high follower count for a lolita account? Like what would you need to be in top 10%?
>>
>>10137315
I'd say above 10k. There are a couple of lolitas with many more followers than that but if we're talking top 10% of all lolitas, >10k seems about right. This is still a niche fashion after all.
>>
Out of curiosity, anyone have a suggestion for a resize program/app?
>>
>>10137338
Can you post a list of some lolitas in that range?
>>
>>10135615
For social media, having 2 tags/hashtags increases your visibility by 20 times. 3 or more drops the number to 17 times and lower.
>>
Is it really worth it making an Instagram just for cosplay? I have a personal account that I post cosplays to, but I think a decent amount of people that follow me aren't really into my cosplay posts.

Just a smol account for my hobby. I don't post very often. Surprised to see I just broke 5 hundo followers, thinking about doing a giveaway or something.

@DreamCathedral
>>
>>10137624
bruh i have 300 followers and like probably a third of them are spam accounts that just randomly started following me
>>
>>10137732
Yeah, I don’t think it’s these people’s fault that a lot of their followers are fake. Spam accounts follow anyone, but especially accounts with high follower rates. They just haven’t blocked them.
>>
>>10137745
You can remove spam followers btw. If you go to your follower list and tap the ... next to their name, you can remove them from your followers list.
>>
>>10137774
Thanks anon i'll do that, but i do imagine it would get very tiring to look through every follower you have if you have thousands of followers. I don't blame any high follower acct pages for having to deal with that constantly
>>
>>10137793
I just block them as I go and now I don't get nearly as many as other cosplayers around my follower count so I think that might help
>>
>>10137732
This website is known to be inaccurate asf
>>
>>10137732
This website isn’t the most reliable, you need to do it a couple times. They just select a random 200 followers from the account and examine what percentage of those are fake. This is why you can get different percentages every time. In my experience, if someone is over 60%, their followers are mostly real.
>>
Dumb questions here.
I had built my cosplay/lolita insta to around 2k followers then stopped using it for like a month. I think I lost over 1k followers. How many do you think we’re actually followers and what the likelyhood or regaining them? I had a lot of spammy/private accounts following me. Never bought followers so I have no idea if the found my hashtags like f4f and like4like - should I even have used those?
I don’t want a ton of followers just people to interact with and talk cosplay/lolita
>>
I'm tired of seeing sluts in the lolitafashion tag. I cant. Can someone be a filter and post actual coords here?
>>
>>10138034
Block them. It’s the only way to counter spammers.

1. Don’t do the whole like/follow for like/follow tagging. You’ll only get a bunch of randos who don’t give a shit about what you post. They only care about you liking their stuff or following them. Honestly that one should be pretty obvious but whatever

2. 95% of them were fake followers, meaning they were either fake accounts or real accounts of people desperately trying to become Instagram influencers by following and later unfollowing massive numbers of accounts in the hope that they will follow back. Either way, you don’t want those kinds of accounts following you

3. You’re not going to get 1k followers back easily. It’s going to take some time and you’re going to need to work harder on the content you’re posting
>>
>>10138247
She kinda rude tho
>>
Can anyone give me some advice on how to take better pictures of myself? I used to never take pictures of myself because of self confidence issues so I never got good at taking pictures.
>>
>>10138338
Thanks for the reply. I read somewhere that using f4f tags was the way to go but obviously not if you want real followers. People that follow then unfollow after a few days are annoying what’s the rule of thumb-block them? Same with no content accounts I’m assuming.
>>
Anybody else here has a disproportionately high number of south american males following them? I'm from Europe and I have no contact at all with south america or Spanish language
>>
>>10138895
Someone commented in Spanish about how I am beautiful, my dress and shoes are beautiful and my stance is bow-legged.
Thanks man! But yeah I tend to block random male accounts, so he got blocked too.

>I don't even have bow legs...
>>
>>10138898
I got the same comment. Is he going around lolita tags telling people this? I'm knock kneed if anything. Maybe he has an aversion to the pigeon toe pose.
>>
>>10138428
Get a tripod
Experiment with different angles
If you’re using your phone instead of a camera, use the rear facing camera. I know it’s a little extra work, but most phones have a better rear facing camera than front facing one

Have any of you run into that tights-fetish guy who has commented about DMs on a few lolita IGs?

>get DMs from him a few months ago
>he's into tights and liked my abilletage ones
>has a weird probably fake story about how a female friend of his has a fixation on girls in tights doing karate kicks
>claims he is collecting pics to help add to her blog
>I am morbidly curious so I check the blog
>the pics on the blog are pretty innocuous and kinda funny to be honest
>literally fully clothed girls with tights on doing karate kicks and laughing like they're having fun
>no weird captions or anything obviously sexual
>so innocent it almost doesn't seem fetishy, more pure than the average creep
>I don't know how to respond
>he asks very politely if I'd like to contribute to the blog or send some pics of my tights privately
>British instincts kick in
>say I'm not interested right now and I'd let him know if I changed my mind
>tried to let him down gently, looking back on it I should have just said said no outright
>he was polite and seemed to respect that I wasn't interested
>seemed to
>after a while he starts commenting "DMs" on my posts
>after a few of these, my friends notice and ask if he is a creeper
>I go back to his DM to check what he wanted
>had basically just sent "Princess Anon?"
>politely explain to him that his comments were a bit weird and made my friends worry so I'd appreciate if he stopped doing that
>he is actually cool about it and agreed to stop commenting
>pleasantly surprised
>what a not completely terrible guy
>low key wish him well with his blog
>A few months later
>suddenly notice him commenting "DMs" on a couple of other lolita's pics
>well fuck

I'm a little worried that he may be bothering some of you. If he is commenting these things to you, don't ignore him because he won't stop. Block him if you don't want to engage or ask him to not message you, my experience at least is that he is quite reasonable and will back off if asked.
>>
>>10139079
Is it that bert guy?
>>
>>10139091
His username begins with B but it's not Bert. His user pic does look like a muppet but it has a moustache, so not Bert.
>>
>>10138998
I would have never thought to get a tripod... I always thought people got someone else to take the picture for them. Thank you!
>>
>>10139079

My Instagram is toptyr_cosplay I'm wondering what other content I should post to maybe catch people eye more instead of the only a few posts every few months, should I do wig and make-up tutorials for my cosplays? I really don't want to waste money on shoots with such a sad follower count.
>>
>>10139749
You can post more WIP pictures and detail shots, on a plain clean background would be best
>>
>>10139145
This, I understand the hesitation to name someone if you're unsure whether they're creepy or not, but I'd like to be able to preemptively block someone like this.
>>
>>10139749

Lolita is so weird
>>
>>10140509
Just do it anon, I always check the accounts recommend here and am always looking for inspiration. I just wish people would stop posting accounts that update twice a month or set some weird limit (under 2000 followers)
>>
>>10140509
Self posting is only a 4chan thing. Not a lolita thing. No one cares if you self post on other social medias.
>>
>>10139079
I've had a similar experience like a decade ago in some place other than Instagram (cosplay.com maybe??). I wonder whether it is the same person and how come he is still active...
>>
>>10139126
I do both anon! I have this large tripod that has a selfie stick crudely put on the end so i can put my phone and have an actual standing tripod to get any angle i will need. i also have a friend who takes pictures for me but he's not always here and his pictures are usually hit or miss (the last time i had him take one he managed to make me look obese in every picture, and i wanted to cry. so make sure the person is capable of taking pictures)
>>
I hate social media on these days.
>>
Should I be offended that my best friend never likes my posts?
I know she goes on Instagram regularly and has definitely seen my posts, she just never likes them
>>
>>10143064
she's your "best friend" but you can't even tell her "bitch like my posts!" jokingly? you sure you're that close?
>>
>>10143064
Do you like hers? Comment? Engaging in their content is a good way to get their attention.

I follow a ton of people and Instagram has hidden posts from my friends. Don't take it personally.
>>
>>10143064
nah, i only go on instagram if i'm going to post and tend to miss a lot of my friend's stuff but it doesn't mean i don't love them. it might be that even when she's on insta she's just doing her thing. life tip, don't read ill intention into people's actions unless they're obviously being assholes--makes things so much easier
>>
>>10143097
I like all the stuff she posts and she doesn’t follow that many people so I don’t think it’s possible for her to miss every time I post.
Sometimes I’ll make a story saying I have a new post but she still doesn’t like my posts. I can see everyone who views my story so I know for a fact that she knows I have new posts up
>>
>>10143064
No. Sometimes people don't "like" someones posts, despite actually liking it. Don't make up things in your mind and take them personal.
>>
>>10143147
>being unable to ask your "best friend" to like your instagram posts
kek
>>
>>10143064
I never like anything on instagram and only go there if i'm going to post myself. Some people just engange differently in social media. Please don't hate and accept this.
>>
>>10143105
>>10143160
>>10143192
Lol why do you even follow people on Instagram if you never look at or support their work?
>>
>>10143228
I barely follow anyone, just very close people. If I like their outfits, I will tell them irl.
>>
>>10143064
Wow a grown ass adult complaining about trivial shit like this? Maybe you should be ghosted.
>>
>>10143228

nayrt, but I really only stopped going after instagram changed their fucking algorithm and stopped showing me things from sources I don't "like" enough.

Right there is your answer, I have to keep "liking" a source whether or not I like their posts in order to see it in my feed, so "liking" posts has no meaning anymore, it doesn't mean I like or dislike it. Meanwhile the Supergroupies insta where I insist on only "liking" my fandom and not every single otaku collab they make, completely fell off my feed when they did some idol group collab I don't care about and I didn't "like" any of their posts for a few months.

So yeah, I just end up going to my insta to post something now and then, because I do have an account to post things, but it's easier to open the supergroupies insta once a week to see what they're doing rather than wade through insta's horrible new algo.

I still see my friends irl and we still discuss the things they already posted, so I don't see a problem there.
>>
>>10143228
for me social media isn't really a platform i use to interact with my friends. it's to share my own "work" and put myself out there. honestly i play it for myself, like a numbers game. people use tools in different ways.
>>
>>10143064

Why does this matter.

My best friend doesn't always like my posts. Big fucking deal. She has her life and I have mine, we talk when we can, I'd rather she take the five seconds to actually be able to talk to me than liking some inane photo.
>>
>>10143147
You should only worry if your friend is the type of person who would not like their friends posts out of spite.
>>
What is considered a "large" amount of followers in the lolita j/fashion scene? I know a lot of former lolitas and etc. switch to "generic kawaii" for the views because it's a bigger audience, but for strictly lolita I've heard 3k is considered high. Is that right?
>>
>>10144049
Yes

I want to see if I can get to 1K without resorting to “f4f” tags and so on. I got to around 450 real followers in 3 months, with each post getting me about 10 new followers, but now growth has slowed. How can I continue to reach more new people? I’m lolita, btw.
>>

Are you too picky? What's your IG and what styles do you like?
>>
>>10144914
You don’t need to have the exact same taste as someone else to interact with their page or get them to follow you
>>
>>10144756
If you have good, crisp pictures and interact with others you can get more followers easily. Using a hashtag on your stories helps get more views too. Keep engaging with followers when they leave a comment and leave genuine posts on other people's pics. F4F crap drives people away, try asking for shout-outs with accounts who follow you or ones you really like
>>
>>10145248
Gemma sell me your telephone dress not like you can fit in it anyways
>>
>>10144049
Huh, I see more likes on lolita pics than generic kawaii jfash. So I always thought it was the other way around. I’m in the generic girl jfash and nanchatte camp and don’t even have 400 followers. But, I don’t interact or anything it’s kind of just an online diary of my outfits for myself really.
>>
Any good plus size Lolita accounts?
>>
>>10145772
bowsbeforeboys is one of my faves
>>
hi I'd love to follow and possibly befriend some girls who are into more casual things as well like himekaji
>>
I mostly post cosplay progress and finished shoot photos. I’ve noticed though that a lot of stuff that actually gets attention on insta are costests. I feel so frustrated because I work so hard on my cosplays and editing shoot photos, but it doesn’t get as much attention as these costests. I’m considering starting to do them too, but I’m nervous because it feels like I’m selling out or something.
>>
>>10145772
>bowsbeforeboys
Adding hellobatty to the list.
>>
>>10144049
for strictly lolita that's rather high. There are a ton of generic kawaii/jfash instagrammers with 10k+, so maybe 50-75k would be considered a large following. I'm sitting at 30k right now and still feel pretty small in the community
>>
Quick question to those who subscribe to lolita and j-fashion accounts: do you read captions to outfit shots? Do you auto-translate them if they are in a foreign language? Does auto-translation make sense?
I currently write in my native language but I consider switching my insta to English. I am not generally talkative, and writing in a foreign language will result in even less text than usual, meaning just a couple sentences per post about why I chose to wear this or that, and I don't even know if it is worth the hassle?
I have roughly around 1000 followers, most vocal are my real friends who speak my native.
>>
>>10150826
It depends on whether your insta is aimed at only people who speak your language or if you want to reach a wider audience. If it’s the latter you should definitely switch to English since more people speak it.

You would be surprised at how many people are actually reading those captions.
>>
>>10150826
I read captions. In fact, I like when people write stuff, it makes me feel more comfortable reaching out and interacting with other people. I wear Lolita daily, but I’m usually too busy to attend meetups and may as well be a lone Lolita, so I like to make friends and socialize through social media.
>>
>>10150826
I write long captions and always read other people's. Translation works ok for some languages like Spanish and German and badly for others. One thing I've seen is that some people will write their captions first in their native language and then in English. Whether they are translating themselves for the English or using a better translator like Google Translate, I think that format works pretty well.
>>
>>10150879
Of course I would like to expand a little. But I know for a fact that if I switch to English at least a part of my local following will be irritated. People who write in English instead of local are often critisized for making mistakes or wanting to show off.
>>
>>10135615
Tagging brands and shops if you're a lolita greatly increases visibility because some people go to brand accounts on insta and click that tab that shows all the posts where they're tagged, and on twitter brands might like or retweet you.
>>

Are there any good brolita accounts?
>>
I just made a post today and when I checked the hashtags I used, my post didn’t show up in any of the hashtags under the recent tab, but the post showed under the top tab on some of them. Can anyone explain what’s up with this?
>>
>>10157478
You're shadowbanned, m8. Are you in a pod or buying likes? Either way, Google is your friend and can help you get unbanned
>>
>>10157527
Idk what a pod is and I’ve never bought likes. Idk what I could’ve done to get shadow banned? I haven’t done anything differently than I normally do
>>
>>10157568
Did you use hashtags you have never used before? I was once shadowbanned like that, it was lifted when I deleted the post
>>
>>10157740
No new hashtags. I went through each tag and I see new posts from other people in them. There was one that was a little weird though. It showed posts from this month, then about a dozen posts from several months ago, then it went back to showing posts from this month. I haven’t had problems with that tag before, but maybe it’s broken now.

I also noticed that even though my posts aren’t in the tags, I keep getting likes from people who aren’t following me. I checked and almost all of them follow one or more of the tags I used. Is it normal for someone who is shadowbanned to not show in hadhtags, but to still show up for people who follow the tags?
>>
Is anyone else having problems with losing followers? I lost over 200 this week where I'd normally gain as much or more. Is Instagram deleting bots? My content hasn't changed, only thing different is I took about a week hiatus and came back, would that effect it though?
>>
>>10158221
I'm not sure about losing that many at once, but I had a post yesterday that I knew had about 2,000 likes show that it only had 45 for about an hour, then the original number came back? It was really weird...wtf is insta doing
>>
>>10158221

I gained quite a few so no.

I was very stagnant for a while but these past two weeks had a strong showing. Wish that translated into likes. I’m pruning for obvious storefronts and spammers and it’s not increasing engagement at all. I’ve accepted my fate I suppose.
>>
>>10158230
Why prune storefronts? If you've got enough of a following the free shit is kinda nice
>>
>>10158231

I don’t want knockoff adidas sneakers though and I make enough money that I’m not desperate for cheap shit.
>>
>>10158221
Me too though not as extreme. I'm getting quite a few people following me, most with fake-looking usernames, but my follower count has dropped. My content is just as boring as ever so what gives?

>>10158229
Also had something similar happen a few days ago. A couple of friends had similar things too
>>
>>10157887
Haven't noticed losing any, but noticed a definite drop in growth rate. Sometimes it just comes and goes in cycles so I wouldn't worry too much.
>>
>>10158231
having stores follow you =/= getting free shit. A lot of stores will mass follow thousands of people just to get some exposure
>>
>>10158231
Stores don't interact with your posts and lower your overall interaction rate.

@bambibeanie
>>
How many followers would you say that a cosplayer should have before they’re considered “popular” or just good enough to be friends with popular cosplayers?
>>
>>10164628
You don't even need an instagram to be friends with a popular cosplayer, there isn't like a threshold to reach to be "good enough" for them, and if they think like that why would you even want to hang out with them? You become friends with popular cosplayers the same way you become friends with anyone else. Are you serious or are you trolling?
>>
>>10164628
Ngl just this question alone makes you sound like a clout leech that doesn't understand how friendships work.
>>
>>10164628
What. I have less than 500 if you don't count bots that just want to sell me shit, and I just message or compliment famous cosplayers and treat them like a freaking human being. Wouldn't you like to receive the same? Or are you just trying to leech popularity?

It's easy to befriend people, whether they're popular or not. Just be yourself and don't have ulterior motives behind talking to them. If they're a decent person and aren't swamped (remember everyone has different levels of time/energy), they'll probably be cool back to you.
>>
>>10164628
Cmon man, this just makes you sound like a huge asshole. "Popular cosplayers" are just nerds who dress up like the rest of us. I have less than 1k but am good friends with people who have tens of thousands up to hundreds of thousands of followers. That's because I treat them like, you guessed it, PEOPLE. If you're friends with someone because they're popular then you're a clout chaser.
>>
>>10150918
That's dumb. How will you get better if you don't use the language??

I'm a cosplayer, but I follow people who post in German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Japanese, and I try to use the translation feature or read what I can. I'm only semi-intelligible if I write in Japanese, but I try anyway, because that's why I started studying the language to begin with...?

If someone's going to judge you over it, they're not worth your time anyway. You'll reach a larger audience being bilingual and will make up for the sour grapes.

For fellow lolitas, how do you deal with weird followers? I get the same few lolita at heart types or weirdos that tell me they wish they were a lolita and leave self depreciating comments on my posts. They reply to almost all of my stories as well and I don't even know how to reply half the time. What's the best way to handle these types of followers?
>>
>>10165131
I've taken to just blocking these types of people, they're often just after pity and their self-demeaning comments are exhausting, especially when in the past I've often given them advice, but they just continue to complain. You don't need that negativity in your life imo
>>
>>10165131
ignore em, they’ll probably go away after a while
>>
>>10165037
I recommend using a neutral, light colored background, ample natural light, and don't forget to remove lint and dust from both the background and your piece before taking the picture. If you want to invest, you can also get a lightbox/"mini photography studio" to give you a plain background and nice diffuse light, but it won't fit entire garments.
>>
I’m thinking of starting a second account for cosplay. My main account is pretty strictly lolita and jfashion and I don’t really want to mix cosplay posts into that. I’m pretty new to cosplay in general but would love some advice and pointers on the best route for newbie accounts.
>>
>>10165354
What kind of wip photos do you/others like to see? Almost finished garments, mock ups? Finished elements? or less finished looking stuff
>>
>>10165671
nayrt but I find that if I post anything too close to finished, everyone’s hype goes into that post and it blows up more than I’d like. Then when I post nice, professional photographer photos they get lackluster engagement.
I personally like seeing aesthetic close-up shots of embellishment details that might get lost in final photos otherwise. Then I can appreciate the the work that went into the final images more. Step-by-step process posts are really nice and informative as well, since they’re like informal tutorials.
>>
>>10164718
>>10164830
I’m sorry, English isn’t my first language so I suppose I didn’t word that well. I mean more so, like I see the super popular cosplayers like Leon, Jessica Nigri, Jenna Meowri, etc seem to only rly speak to people at or close to the same level of popularity. And it’s not even that I want to be friends with them for “popularity”, I’ve just followed them for a while, like their stuff, and would like to be friends. So I was curious if there was a unspoken rule on how many followers I’d have to have before people like that would give me the time of day.

People with that many followers usually just don't have the time to reply to every single person that wants to talk to them, so they have to scan their incoming pms for names that they already know because, you know, generally speaking people are more willing to spend time on someone they know or care about. Chances are that they have heard of other big names before, so naturally they feel more inclined to answer to their pms instead of a perfect stranger's.
That being said, if you are interesting and have something to say that isn't just a version of "I love your costumes! or "you're so pretty!" (which they hear hundreds of times every day) chances are that they will respond and you can get to know them.
I only have around 10k followers, but even that small number means that I have a bunch of people trying to strike up a conversation with me every day. I try to respond to every one, but I often just don't have the time for a full, lengthy conversation if someone just tells me they like my outfits or want to know where I got something from. However, if someone is funny or has something more interesting to talk about, I take more time replying. I became friends with several people who only have a few hundred followers that way.
>>
>>10165741
>ou know, generally speaking people are more willing to spend time on someone they know or care about. Chances are that they have heard of other big names before, so naturally they feel more inclined to answer to their pms instead of a perfect stranger's.

If they aren't responding, they aren't looking for friends. It doesn't matter how many followers you get, try actually having something in common with them that you could connect with on in a way that they'd gravitate to YOU (skill, interests, hobbies). But when you go out trying to make someone SPECIFIC notice you, no matter how you try to disguise it, it's going to be kind of obvious on the outside. Especially since you seem to have a list.

I've got friends who post wondering why someone hasn't noticed them, or I'll hear them make comments that come off a bit creepy about how much they like a popular cosplayer (usually for their body)... when those people are people too. They'd like to be treated like people, not a piece of meat/a friend to 'attain'.

You'd be better off just pursuing what interests you, posting passionately about it, engage the people that inspire you with real genuine intent (when you compliment them, don't be doing it so that they notice you. If you like something say it, or make a comment about how you find it relate-able, but leave it at that.) But don't forget what it is you like about the hobby and engage with people you genuinely like regardless of if they are popular or not. It will be very very obvious if you're more focused on the popular kids rather than people who are your peers.

Looking for some advice.
My account is pretty established and focused heavily on lolita fashion. I have loads of old posts from before I understood hashtags in the community. The pictures are mostly all nice and good quality but severally lacking in likes. Would it be silly for me to archive these posts and then repost them occasionally to help attract new followers and likes to my account especially during the times I don’t have anything to post?

Thanks in advance for any help.
>>
>>10172052

Can anyone recommend some good mid skill level cosplayers? Preferrably male since those seem harder to find.
Seems like most of the recommended cosplayers I get are either movie prop tier guys or girls with 100k+ followers
I typically only try to follow people with under 100k because it just doesn't feel quite as genuine with the shopped and professional photos vs the wip shots taken in someone's basement.

A question for people with accounts with higher numbers:
Do you ever hit a wall where you’re stuck at a certain number of followers?
I feel like I’ve been stuck in a certain range for the past month or two
Do you do anything specific to get past it? Or does it just happen in cycles and you wait it out?
>>
>>10173298
>>10170772
Damn, you post on your feed, /cgl/ says they don't care about your normie life. You post on your stories, and you get the same thing. What do you guys like to see in stories? I have to admit, people that only post stories that match their feeds bore me to death. I want to see what you enjoy outside of lolita.
>>
>>10182137
lolita feeds with more "personal" stories don't bother me desu. it only becomes bothersome when the stories themselves are annoying because the person is annoying-- like weak flexes, oversharing about issues hundreds of strangers don't need to know about, constant "oh woe is me" type things, etc. those are just my personal pet peeves.

but bring on the hobbies, the places you go, interesting things you see day to day, non-lolita outfits, pets, stuff like that. i'm all for that kind of normie life stuff.

13 is very low compared to others, and begging for follows and trying to get a high number of followers without really following anyone or interacting seems kind of cringe to me. Seems like they're trying to be a big shot but don't want to network with other people in their same area and follower count.
>>
>>10185329
It also sounds like a case of "follows then unfollows after the person follows back"

>>10185329
1K isn't exactly a high number for someone in the cosplay community. If you look at popular cosplayers their followers to following is about the same as this girl's, but on a much larger scale so it's not as noticeable.
>>
>>10185518
>1k followers isn't that high
Are you serious? Seems pretty high. Out of a lot of local cosplayers I know, 500 followers is quite a bit and near the high end
>>
>>10185520
I know a few cosplayers in my area with over 5k followers, one is even coming up on 10k. 1k isn't really enough to make you a big shot
>>
>>10185520
1k isn't remarkable at all, anon.
>>
>>10185520
I feel hardly unusual or remarkable at 20k so it's always interesting to hear the outside perspective of something like this. That said, if you're in a big American area over 1k is pretty average if your photo quality is decent.
>>
>>10185870
I don't know if it's photo quality or cosplay quality. J think it's how well people play the game of posting the right content at the right time frequently and also being the right body type.
Seems like boyish women who post a lot of BnHA every day get a huge amount of followers. Someone on my feed posts pics of her same all might cosplay every day, same makeup, same wig, same clothes, but gets a huge amount of interaction from followers for it.
>>
>>10186105
With a few exceptions (cosplayers who focus exclusovely on hyperpopular media or who are hot and marketing sexy cosplays) photo quality/artistry matters most. My cosplays aren't great for the most part and my sources are generally obscure or at the very least not fotm, but I put a lot of effort into presentation and a lot of my friends around same numbers as me are in the same boat.
>>
>>10186105
>>10186151
Obviously playing the social media game amd marketing is a huge part of it too, but I don't think the accounts that get hella interaction from only doing one this are gonna be super successful in the long run because people just followed for Only That and not actually liking them or their body of work.
>>
One thing I've learned from insta is people don't like wip shots. People prefer "costests" that are basically finished pieces. It's all about looking as out together as possible
>>
>>10186182
People like seeing process photos, but they don’t like seeing them all as separate posts. Wait until you’re finished, then post all progress pics with a finished pic in the same post
>>
Randomly got reposted by an account that only shares anime screenshots and other reposted fanart. Me and others in the photo (including the photag) got credited, but I still feel kinda weird about it. IG doesn't have a RT option I guess, and it's not unusual for more popular cosplayers to get reposted, but I can't decide my feelings on it because we're all sub-1k and only do this for fun. Am I just being weird? Advice/thoughts?
>>
>>10186686
Seems kind of bullshit but I'm sure if you asked for it to be taken down they'd cry about the exposure being good for you.

Personally I'm petty and have had a few posts of my cosplays taken down from places like Reddit, just message the mods with a timestamp of your cosplay and they'll take it down.
>>
One of my posts got an unusually high number of likes, so I started using the hashtags I used on that post on all subsequent posts. All was well for a while, but suddenly my reach seems throttled and I’m only getting likes from my followers. I’ve been reading up on shadowbans and it seems like this might be an example. Could I be shadowbanned? How do I get out of it?
>>
>>10188747
you probably just didn't reach any new people. If you do the same thing over and over, you reach less people and eventually some people might unfollow and leave
>>
To those of you who do costume/cosplay/make things as the theme for your Instagram, how do you generate enough content to stay relevant? I feel like people tend to leave if I post progress shots and I don’t see fast enough to post more than twice a month in finished products.
>>
>>10188804
I'm not relevant
to your question though, most of the relevant people take their cosplay shots and space them out over days and weeks, do "costest photos" and "casual cosplay" photos of just makeup and a wig, and use tiktok style videos of them dancing around in cosplay to pad out their content.
>>
>>10188804
I take a shit ton of photos in one session and post them about 3-5 days apart. That was 6 or 7 photos can span a whole month and it wouldn't seem like I'm ever gone for a long period of time. Set aside a weekend to take pics of a few different cosplays and you'll be set

That's fine if you don't want to bother following other people back. But if you have the time to shill your insta here like the original poster did and you have no intention of following anyone back because you 'don't have the time for it' then you can just fuck right off with that shit.

if you have no intention of following that many people to network or be a part of a community it seems weird to plug your insta and ask for followers then
>>
>>10191816

I consider insta to be a 'community' of sorts as I talk to a ton of people on there. If someone is only following <50 accounts I don't assume much, that's their prerogative, but if they're angling to shill their mediocre shit that's really not a good look.
>>
>>10191823
i'm not any of the anons who posted their instas, jsyk. i was just giving my piece. not plugging anything.
>>
>>10191816
I don’t think anyone expects you to literally follow back every single person who follows you. The issue is that Instagram is a social networking platform. When you’re actively trying to gain followers for cosplay or lolita, but you refuse to connect with anyone else in those communities, you end up looking like a stuck up asshole who thinks their above everyone else. No one really wants that kind of shit in our communities.

There’s a local cosplayer here who has 1k followers and is following less than 30 people. She’s not even following the person who she claims is one of her best friends even though they do cosplay shoots together all the time. It’s just not a good look

that’s not true at all, there’s tons of chinese fob lolitas in the us. they don’t usually use tags though, you have to look through their tagged pics and follows
>>

>>10194502

They're around guys. Quite a few of them actually.

A few that I follow (I'm classically oriented so they're mostly classic lolitas):

>mintlittlefox
>wolfling.s
>homeriro
>lolitd_
>shadowcat831
>drewandran

There's a ton in the brand tags too. Especially and not surprisingly the JetJ one.

For cosplayers out there. When you meet a popular or famous cosplayer(with like 60k+ or so) should you fan over them? If you really are a fan of course. Or does this bother them? Just wondering. I know everybody says to be natural and yourself since popular/famous cosplayers are just people too, but...yeah.
>>
>>10206474
people like this feeling comfortable enough to post their shitty normie feed just goes to show how dead cgl is these days
>>
>>10206819
telling someone you’re a big fan of their work is fine, following them for the next 30 min gushing about it is not. don’t pretend you don’t know them to try to act cool, it’s actually really obvious when people do this and someone cosfamous probably isnt going to go out their way to approach you anyways since there’s so many other people who willingly ask for their attention. don’t go out of your way to ass kiss them and become friends with them solely because they’re cosfamous/someone you’re a fan of, because that’s also super obvious. just let a friendship happen or not naturally like with any other person

Not her or a fan though she’s cute (I hope to not make things worse and get her accused of self-whiteknighting and sockpuppeting) but stop sperging. She doesn’t seem to claim any sort of style and wears what she wants while still keeping it j-style. Call me when a normie wears a pink dress in frills and bows.

You could be wrong and right. 1k real followers is absurdly high for a non-famous cosplayer. 1k REAL followers, so no spam, fake followers, follow4follow types. So each post should have 500 comments approximately. And the same amount of likes. I rather have that, then 500k followers and 0 fans.
>>
>>10185094
It’s annoying. Many youtubers did that. Curlypenny for example used to have a curly hair channel and spammed her stupid videos EVERYWHERE on each video (mentioning her because she never got called out for it) and now she quit making hair videos and does...vlogging. Lol, that girl even has a ko-fi link. Not worth to follow. I mean I don’t care about attention whores like them but just don’t follow. Their videos aren’t hard work. So many hard working cosplayers and artists in general get 0 attention because they don’t have friends or connections nor did they spam.
>>
>>10210541
Content not videos*
Though i’m not surprised she’ll set up a youtube channel. I am not salty btw but she should put more effort than spamming and unfollowing if she wants my follow.
>>
>>10210539
>someone with 1,000 followers should have 500 comments on every photo
Lmao you have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about. Stop pulling statistics out of your ass

>1k real followers is absurdly high for a non-famous cosplayer
That implication is absolutely ridiculous. It’s not that hard to reach 1k followers on Instagram. Plenty of people have 1k and still aren’t considered famous. I mean it literally took me less than 4 months to reach 1k and I’m definitely not “cosplay famous”

A cosplayer with 1k followers isn’t uncommon. In my area I’d say average follower count is 400-700, but there are still quite a few people at 1k and a handful of people between 3k-14k.
>>
>>10210539
Tf are you on

Most cosplayers have a "real follower" rate of 80-90%, though that percentage falls slightly as you get higher following and more bots try to autofollow you.

Keep deluding yourself if ya wanna pretend all those people aren't actually doing way better than you, though.

Everything you said was so clearly retarded that I can’t imagine what nitpick you’re referring to. Even with 1k rEaL followers, 500 comments would be a comment from every other person. That is completely unreasonable.

Very normie, nothing standout here, so nothing really makes me want go see more and follow. No one here cares about j-fashion ’inspired’, and you are posting way too many repetitive photos. Post at most, one posed shot and one candid shot of each fashion look. Learn to focus, adjust your exposure and white balance, and get better at photo composition.

It's been talked about every few months, but my engagement tanked starting in July. It nearly halved and it hasn't gone up since the beginning of the month.

Did anyone else have this issue? Did the algorithm change AGAIN? I'm not using banned hashtags and didn't change my posting time fwiw
>>
Is there a way to view reach/statistics on a normal account? I’ve recently seen cosplayers posting screenshots of their post’s statistics, but they’ve all been business accounts. I don’t really NEED to see these things I’m more just curious about it, but not curious enough to change to a business account

>>10223067
Switch things up a little. Sometimes if you’re posting too many samey things, the post won’t do as well.

Things you could try to fix it:
-post on a different day/time than usual. You can switch back to your original time later, but I’ve found that sometimes it’s helpful to just post at a random time once in a blue moon
-if you use the same hashtags all the time, find some new ones and drop a few old ones
-switch up the content you post. I’ve seen a lot of people just post photos from the same shoot until they run out of photos. It’s boring when you see 10 posts of the same thing in a row. Save up the photos from your shoots so there’s more variety in your feed

Instagram is weird. Consistency is super important, but sometimes too much consistency ends up screwing you
>>
>>10223073
There is now a creators account you can switch too that has analytics. Try that out.

But the normal account won’t show you info like that
>>
>>10223073
You can switch to a business / creators account really easily and switch it back to personal immediately, I do it sometimes just out of curiousity but don't want to get caught up in the stats.
>>
>>10223067
Yep, algorithm changed and a lot of people have been reporting that since July, their engagement went down the drain. It happened for me as well, i was sitting at around 15% and now i'm down to 6%.

Do you think twitter can be a good instagram alternative for posting harajuku fashion and kawaii stuff? I'm quitting instagram since I'm disliking it more and more...
>>
>>10233412

Well most Japanese use twitter over insta, so most Japanese brands are actually on twitter first, and other platforms if they have an international market.

So at the very least, on twitter you'd actually be able to get fresh news directly from the brand, even the smaller indie ones that don't have a lot of international presence yet.

Of course, if you're looking for likes and internet points, that might be a lot harder to come by if your stuff mainly appeals to people who are on other platforms and they don't make the move to twitter with you. You could try running both accounts together for a while and see if it takes off (using ittt (if this then that) would help with cross posting your content, if you feel like you can't handle posting to both platforms).
>>
What's the point of trying to get lots of followers on Instagram? Is your goal to make money from it?

I have a Tumblr blog that I try to increase my followers on so I have more customers for art commissions. I don't understand why people give a shit about follower count if they're not monetized at all, which from my understanding most IGs aren't. You like the attention? You want to make friends? It makes you feel powerful?
>>
>>10233465
>You like the attention?
Ye, very much so.
>You want to make friends?

>>
>>10233412
There's a small group of westerners on Twitter for lolita. I think your circle would be even larger for kawaii fashion. You also might get Japanese followers and if you tag brands they generally retweet your stuff.
>>
>>10233510
That doesn't sound bad at all! I'll give it a try.
>>
Is it worth it to build a following on IG? Right now I'm only followed by convention friends plus a few randoms. I don't cosplay much, only at conventions, and I go to very few conventions a year. I want to cosplay more, even if it's just at home, and I feel like having a goal to build a following would also motivate me to engage more with the hobby. I struggle a lot with motivation, especially when it's just for myself. Things are easier when I'm doing them with others in mind.
If I could get motivated, it would also give me a reason to practice makeup, wig styling, sewing and everything else I suck at outside of the time leading up to a convention. Would that be a reasonable strategy, or does a large following lead to too much pressure? I can't decide whether I should keep it just for con pictures and keeping up with people I don't see often, or actually putting some effort into it.
>>
>>10233735
>does a large following lead to too much pressure?

That really depends on the kind of person you are. I’m close to 4k followers and don’t really feel any pressure to do anything specific because it’s just social media to me. Meanwhile I have a few friends with 500 followers who legit have breakdowns on their Instagram stories apologizing to their followers because they haven’t posted new content in a week
>>
>>10233735
Good luck building a following on instagram without paying. Unless you are extremely pretty or post extremely good content, it can be very frustrating. But I can totally relate with instagram helping with motivation. I think it depends on the person but it can definitely help you with that. Same thing for pressure. For me with 2k followers I do feel it a little but nothing too bad.

How do I find Japanese people on insta (or is Twitter better?) Who wear stuff like Lolita (all styles) and things like visual kei etc. Non-mainstream stuff I guess
>>
>>10237245
Check the Japanese translations of tags
Lolita is ロリータ
You’ll have to wade through some western people using the Japanese tags for a wider reach, but when I checked the above tag it didn’t take long to find some actual Japanese people

Having a small feed is nice. I don't follow people I'm not friends with or don't like the content of because I don't want shit I don't care about on my feed. When you don't follow a lot of people, you get to see the things you genuinely want to.
