Do you cosplay with your significant other?Do you mach cosplays/Lolita ?What do they think of you cosplaying/Lolita if they don't?
>>10126853Made the first kinda couple cosplay with my gf last month (Goblin Slayer and Priestess) and it was really enjoyable. Took us half a year but now we already got lots more planned

My hubby and I have cosplayed together and won a few prizes at small cons, but since cgl has a big stick up its ass about MLP content, I can't post them here.

How do I acquire a cosplayer bf?
My boyfriend was willing to cosplay with me last Novermber, in a small LoTR group with some friends. It was nice - it was his first or second convention and first cosplay and over all it was a nice experience to cosplay together. The convention was shit though, unfortunately (way too many rude people, or i guess I'm just disillusioned with conventions now...) and we ended up leaving quite early on. I very much doubt he'd ever wear lolita with me one day (possibly because he's 6'4 and quite broad shouldered.....and also much more into historical reenactment and swordfighting than being pretty). He dresses nicely when out with me when I'm in lolita though - maybe one day I'll get him into a dandy-ish, or vintagey outfit? He's sticking to button-up shirts for now at least. On another note, I'm trying out historical reenactment thanks to his interest for it, and started working on a dress (he does the "viking" era, so I figured I'd try that out). It's very fun to walk around med fairs, chat with people, and see him sword fight in armor with his group, and will probably be an even nicer experience when dressed the part, so I'm eager to have that happen this summer.

>>10126853>significant otherLet me just stop you right there.
My gf and I cosplay together ama
>>10127451How'd you two meet? How do I convince my SO to cosplay with me? They always say "Oh when (if) I do cosplay I'm going to want it to be really really good" which basically translates to "I'm never going to do it at all because I don't want to spend the effort on it"
I wish my bf would cosplay with me so badly. He's only done it once and said he didn't enjoy it. I think it's mostly an insecurity thing, but I try not to push it too much. I'm a little jealous since it was with his ex, but I'm still grateful he gives me lots of encouragement and help with my cosplays. He's very sweet - I just wanna cosplay my shameful OTPs with him.
>>10127458A Si-Fi convention
>>10127458>>10127539>Continued Convincing you SO to cosplay isn’t exactly an exact science. Maybe try encouraging them to cosplay media that you both enjoy, be it an anime, video game, movie, tv, ect..That’s a good start, but you have to get them commit to it, and the best way to do this is to make it a date activity you do together!>Oh when (if) I do cosplay I'm going to want it to be really really goodIronically, I remember being just like this with our first couple cosplay, but my gf was actually very supportive and helpful to me with the whole construction process. Now It does takes time and EFFORT, but it’s actually quite enjoyable to work on cosplays together as a couple. I would start out with easier cosplays and move up from there. ( I say this but my first real undertaking was building a full ass suit of armor rip)Now in all fairness, my cosplays have never exactly been top tier stuff, and our first couple cosplay was quite an undertaking for a guy with 0% artistic or constructive skill (fucking kill me) but my SO and I bonded over it so it was all worth it really. I guess all in all, if you’re not going to have fun with the process, you shouldn’t do it; regardless of the outcome. I hope some of that helps! :)
>>10127538Maybe let him know about your insecurity around the issue. Also tell him that would mean a lot to you would probably put his rear in gear. If not dump his ass
>>10127538My wife and I have cosplayed as these two.
>>10127655>>10127831Ahaha, I don't know. When it comes to everything other than this he's a real good guy. He'd never cheat on me or anything and he does a lot of thoughtful things for me. I know it's not like we have to have every hobby in common. I guess it's mostly a bummer because when it comes to cons/cosplaying we don't have a lot in common. I like meeting new people, having a couple drinks, going to shoots and panels, just sort of making the most out of every con. He gets annoyed in crowds, doesn't drink (not a huge deal y'know but it makes you feel a little awkward when you want to get tipsy), doesn't cosplay, doesn't like me getting too loud or goofy, doesn't like to take pictures together, doesn't dance. Generally he's done for the night at around 11pm while I'm still ready to go. I don't know. I don't want to break up over a hobby, but it's not what I've been used to at cons up until this point. Sorry to get feels-thready lol. I get a bit torn. >>10128015I'd love to do some Fate shoots with some of my favorite pairings, it's my favorite series! He'll never do it but he'd get jealous if I ever went through with it with anyone else ahaha.

>>10129653This is actually kind of sad. I'd say you have to have a talk about this because if I had to make a guess, she's jealous of the attention you get/you did something to really piss her off/one of her friends talked her out of doing it and she never verified that rumor with you. I hope you can have fun together again, anon...
>>10129653Please talk to her about it anon. Seriously, next time the topic of cosplay comes up (literally whenever) just say "Hey, I really enjoyed when we cosplayed ____ together and got to hang out a lot during the con. I'd love if we got to do something together again, I feel like the groups you do with your friends take up a lot of your time during the con and even though we're cosplaying the same thing, we end up not spending much time together. Could we plan something together soon?"It's awkward and feels shitty but if there's actually a reason at the bottom of this anon, you'll never know unless you bring it up.
>>10129740>>10129744it could also be because when I'm in her pics she loses like 10 insta orbiters. I can def tell it hurt her when i got asked for a photo and I have to say "i have second half right here! you want both of us?" and the person just goes "eh sure i guess" i'll try to bring it up again but the convo usually goes >hey i saw you and friends are gonna be doing earth bound >yeah we almost got a full party of 3 and 2 >i can be duster or lucas' dad! >those characters are ugly. no >but you already have a ness, lucas, po, and jeff>yup >....

It's probably easier for gay people to find SO's from cons, you just have to dodge all the cripplingly mentally ill and drama-hungry people. We met when we were 18, and we're both 25 now.

>>10132376Godspeed anon. You're literally living my dream.
>>10129653What do you mean by "got clowned"?
My SO wants to do couples cosplay, but he says he doesn't have the time or mental space to build his own cosplay (which I believe, full time job + CS major). He does have money, though, and he's suggested he buy his costume instead. I don't know how I feel about it, especially when I want us to match in style, quality, etc...
>>10127337how attractive? can I get away with having 'autism: the personality' if I'm fit?
>>10133266>but he says he doesn't have the time or mental space to build his own cosplayNot to be rude or bash your SO in any way, but as a general rule of thumb whenever people say that, they're just making excuses. If someone really wanted to do something, then they would *make* time for it.Let me tell you exactly how this situations going to pan out if your SO purchases his costume (I'm assuming you were planning to make your costume yourself).>you spend the time and effort to create a costume>your SO purchases a pre-made one>after weeks your hard work has been rewarded. Your cosplay is finished and you feel a sense of satisfaction for accomplishing what you set out to do.>at the same time your SO's purchase arrives in the mail>you both go to the convention>I made this myself!>I uhh... bought mine from taobaoSounds like he's just trying to get brownie points by saying "Let's do a couple's cosplay!" but not wanting to put in the effort.
>>10133311That's exactly what I was worried about. On the other hand, he really is working 60 hours a week. Asking him to learn a whole new... let's be honest, it's a craft, not a hobby... seems overmuch. He's worn stuff I helped him make before and says he enjoyed it, and wants to do something together next time. And he is kinda paying for my stuff... I just don't want to have to make his whole cosplay for him, and he knows that too. I'm feeling really split over this.
>>10133331I mean, if he's paying for your stuff and willing to pay for the materials for his, it's kind of lame that you don't want to make his cosplay for him. If I had a SO who wanted to do a couple cosplay and was willing to pay for the parts I'd be fine making it. If it's because it's a character you don't like can you figure out something you both like? I mean, if he doesn't know how to make costumes (which it sounds like since you said he'd have to learn the craft), the costume isn't going to turn out to your standards if he makes it. You'd have to hold his hand to get it high quality, which would probably take longer than just making it. Maybe ask if he's be willing to help with simple parts so you can work on it together.
>>10133343>it's kind of lame that you don't want to make his cosplay for him>If I had a SO who wanted to do a couple cosplay and was willing to pay for the parts I'd be fine making it.Nayrt, but I interpreted her post as wanting to do the activity (making the costumes) together. So the problem isn't "I don't want to do this for him," but rather "I want us both to do this together". Though, personally I agree with you. The division of cost and labor can be equal (fair) depending on the circumstances.>>10133331>the costume isn't going to turn out to your standards if he makes it. >You'd have to hold his hand to get it high quality, which would probably take longer than just making it. >Maybe ask if he's be willing to help with simple parts so you can work on it together. The answer you're looking for essentially boils down to this.

>>10133311Dude works 60 hours a weekThis isn't "making excuses," he literally doesn't have the time.Nothing wrong with buying or commissioning a cosplay, unless you're a SERIOUS purist. Some people have time to spare. Some people have money to spare. Few people have both.
>>10133573People seriously forget that cosplay is about dressing up as your favorite character and having fun. How dare people do that without sinking dozens of hours into sewing/crafting if they have the choice not to.
>>10132376Literally living the dream anon>you just have to dodge all the cripplingly mentally ill and drama-hungry people. That’s a lot of people to dodge
>>10133573Okay, full story time.I'm making my own 2B for Momocon in May. Couple nights ago I come up with bright idea, "Hey SO, why not do a 9S and couple cosplay like we always talked about?" He goes "Sure."So we talk about us being cute and stuff until I get around to talking about helping him make it, then he starts balking. We're both up to our eyeballs in schoolwork, and then his job (which he hates) on top of that, so time is crunched for us both. The short of the argument was, I wanted him to learn to sew so he can start doing full cosplays on his own, but he'd rather use his little spare time for his own hobbies. He put it like this:"It's like you and my football hobby. You'll come to the games with me and root for my team, but it's not like you're so into it you're memorizing rules and players and stats and whatever."Which I thought was a good argument. Still, I didn't want to go around con with a mismatched 9S in tow. I was angsting over just letting him do it because I love him, right?Good news, this story has a happy ending. We talked it out last night and agreed to a compromise. He'll buy us both a couple's cosplay (Ichigo/Goro) we can do together for Momo for one day and I can just focus all my efforts on 2B. Then we'll make our dream couple (Zeref/Mavis - yes we're casual trash) together over the summer when he's not cramming for graduation and save it for AWA.
>>10133550>be lesbian gull>be short with feminine features>into lolita>be singleI just want a qt3.14 gf who likes punk and ouji, I don't even care if she's as short/shorter than me. Gay dating scenes, especially for nerds, are such a pain.
>>10133573>he literally doesn't have the time.Absolutely wrong. There are 168 hours in a week, 60 of those hours are taken up by work. That leaves you with 108 hours where, if you had actually read my post, would realize that, you would have to *make* time. To literally not have the time you would have to be working 24/7, which this is not the case.
>>10133615>what is sleep>what are responsibilitiesDo you live with your parents who clean after you?
>>10133652Why don't you try using your brain and try thinking a little before posting instead of immediately trying to put down others. Your post contributes nothing to the conversation and only serves to stroke your own ego as you assume the position that you're better than me. But sure, let me do the thinking for you and give you the answer. Of course people need to sleep and everybody has responsibilities, but the thing is, everybody's schedule is different. The only thing I do know is that person works 60 hours a week. The remaining hours of the week are for them to fill in and figure out how to *make* time. I'm not going to assume to know what that person's schedule looks like. The fact still stands that no one 'literally doesn't have the time'. That's why you *make* time. With that said, why don't you tell me how sleep and responsibilities take up the remaining 108 hours with absolutely no room for adjustment.
I have yet cosplay with my gf. She's a lolita and seemed to be interested when I mentioned it.
>>10132376Damn anon you're living the dream. I'm somewhat petite and with a babyface, wish I could find myself a tall, androgynous gf to cosplay with but I always end up with other petite+babyfaced people, no matter butch or femme
>>10133652Anon obviously never had a job. >60 hours of work >35 hours of sleep (assuming meager 5 hours a day) >16 hours for eating (assuming about 45 mins for each meal) >1 hour for bathing (assuming they take less than 10 minutes in the bathroom each day) >5 hours for the bare minimum of choresThis doesn’t even include time for cooking or for going to the washroom or getting dressed or commute. They probably only have a few of hours a day of truly free time left. And time is not the only factor, but energy too? I know all I can manage to do after a long day is drag myself to brush my teeth and then to bed.

since i started dating my bf he's been quite interested in cosplaying (though he's more interested in making realistic weapons). we thought we wouldnt be able to cosplay together for a while but recently my friend made a BNHA group which i decided to join with my boyfriend. He is going to be Mr Aizawa (because he has that kind of personality) and im going to be Tsuyu (just because i will be cosplaying her a few months before the group). My friend said its an interested ship but now i feel tempted to switch to Ms Joke (since I have more of her personality and it would be more of a pairing with my boyfriend) what do you all think?
>just tryin to find something cute and matching that i can wear with my SO>post looking for matching costumes that I dont have to make/buy from cosplay store>give measurements for me and him>all people who replied clearly did not look at my measurements and are offering costumes that are several sizes too big/ nothing for matching>wtfLooks like I am going to buy something online then.

I always have a better time if he's with me at cons, whether as my handler or in cosplay with me. I also wear lolita, which he thinks is cute but doesn't really "get". He'll happily tell me what he thinks of my coords when I'm preparing for a meet though, and wave me out the door with well wishes for a fun time with my comm. He just doesn't come out with me when I'm in lolita because as a normie dude he doesn't feel there's a place for him at meets, which I think is fair enough. >>10155661>>10155661I don't think thats true at all. If you've already been dating awhile and circumstances change, than its likely worth it. But if you don't have that foundation already, then alot of the trust building and getting to know a person doesn't happen, and its too easy to obfuscate some ugly truths or cheat or other events; and you're likely dating a 'fantasy version' of the individual, and not the real version. That's my two cents.
>>10155671You might be either projecting your own experiences or your imagined simulation of how things would go. I don’t know what else to tell you other than it worked out really well for me and for the dozens of other people I know displaced by their jobs for years at a time. If you have ugly truths you feel you need to hide it’s likely being close to each other probably wouldn’t help things. It’s like when a dickwad expressed that he would fuck any girl who came by if his wife wasn’t with him. That’s just him, and it’s likely just you.
>>10155692I mean I could also reference my own library of anecdotal experience and reveal how so many people I know also don't think LDR's work and could pontificate multiple horror stories people have had from them. Just because they work for some people and not for others doesn't invalidate either of our opinions, but slanting it as only positive is a disservice and unrealistic.
>>10155713Slanting it either way is a disservice. I acknowledge it’s difficult but it can be done.
>>10155713Cont. All I'm saying is that yeah, it 'could' work, but just blindly saying it works 'if you care enough' isn't the full picture, and many people have negative experiences from it that shouldn't immediately be dismissed either. At least putting down parameters or limiters or describing other factors on precisely how it works is more beneficial. The way I understand it, more people have had negative LDR experiences than positive ones and saying "if you care enough" simply...well, it's not enough. It takes more than just love. There's tons of compromises and commitments and everyone is an individual who has their own sets of needs. Knowing yourself even well enough to want to commit to an LDR is half the battle already.
>>10155721Yeah to give pointers I'd need specs. It's like giving relationship advice, period. You know why those wikihow articles don't work? Everyone works differently. One person who doesn't like scenario A may work well with A.1, and person B may be the opposite, etc. It's like that with LDR as well, and while we both have different experiences, there have certainly been instances that work.Relationships are like that. Each one is different, and I can't give you a guidebook to it no matter how much you want it.A ton of relationships that aren't LDR don't work either. You sound like the kind of guy who needs things spelled out, cut open, and served on a platter to you. LDR certainly isn't like that, but neither is the world. Go out and live it instead of shitting on other people for not conforming to your expectations of a 100% local relationship that will somehow keep in check all the things you've mentioned simply by being close by.Sage for OT.
>>10155895and of course I was a dumbass and didn't, sorry.
>>10155895lmao 'go out and live it' ok buddy
>>10156490Yeah that’ll be hard for you. Good luck.
>>10127538>>10128557>>10137210All of this sounds like you're looking for petty reasons to dump him for. So why don't you just stop pretending to be someone who you're not and finally end the relationship?
>con crush asked me to do a couple cosplay with her >Or rather asked to be the second half to my cosplay that had couple cosplay potential H-help
>>10157082Why are you here and not planning it out with her? You won, go claim your prize.
>>10157030>>10127831>>10127655>>10136514>>10127538What's wrong with you guys. Homie over here just telling a cute story about bf being too insecure to cosplay together and y'all trying to get her to dump him immediately. Are there really people who'd trade up a great partner who supports their interests, just because they don't actively participate in one of them.
>>10160564ya gotta understand dawg, these bitches be puttin themselves in person's shoes. and they selfish as FUCK. god forbid they compromise be a thing for em
>>10153635samus and lil mac?
I want to cosplay with my SO, but our tastes in series is so off that it's a bit difficult. Add in the fact I'm willing to try and make him cosplays but refuses doesn't help.(I know one of these days we wanted to be Squall and Rinoa, on the grounds he's the Shield Knight to my Shovel.)
I like cosplaying with my bf but desu it's a pain in the ass. He's not really a cosplayer so I have to get the costume and help him put everything on, including makeup. He's willing to wear whatever I ask of him which is nice; since he's short and we're almost the same height, I mostly have him do girls with me. I do most of my couple cosplays with my taller friend for height accuracy.
>>10160577I’m sorry, Jamal, I’m unfamiliar with ebonics. Could you speak a little slower?

I feel like I'm not able to being attracted to ppl from my country so I fantasize with my cosplay crushes on Instagram, thinking that I'll be part of their cosplay group someday.Oh my, I miss having fun with a gf in cosplay.
>>10151302Lisa Simpson and Homer.then he could be in-character pretending to hang out with Lisa at some boring ass place.
>>10127305I dated a theatre girl and turned her into a cosplay girl. Easy transition
I've done partner cosplays a few times with mine; we've done the Sebastian/Fem-Ciel normie pairing with bought costumes, then both made DIYs for the first time for a Jack Skellington and Sally Ragdoll set, and then she did a custom Togepi dress one year and I quick threw together a Pokemon Go trainer to go with it at the last minute.Right now we're working towards doing 2B and 9S, though I'm trying to do a slightly older version of 9S with an updated outfit and longer hair since I'm taller than her.
>>10129737Hey, I know you. met you at FL Supercon! Your Unicorn is looking great bro!
>>10161620He could be telling the truth if he's just got a bit of the tism like. My boyfriend's best friend is a fairly good looking 6ft gym lad but just has no clue how to talk to girls without stuttering or tripping over words.

I really want an SO to cosplay with, I recently met a guy at a con I was starting to like but it turned out he was just trying to use me for sex T~T
>>10127300gross, dump that fatass and get yourself a fit Chad bf to cosplay with
>>10129653Fucking...you sound like a cuck. Grow some fucking balls and actually fucking talk to her. There could be ten hundred thousand million reasons why she wouldn't want to do cos with you, like maybe you're super cringe and she doesn't want to hurt your feelings or smth. Flinging the "SHE MUST BE JEALOUS" thing is sexist, stop imputing her feelings and actually fucking talk to her god damn
Gf wants to cosplay something from ow but I’m too old for this shit so I told her no
I was THIS CLOSE to getting my bf to cosplay OTGW with me (wirt & beatrice....I bought the fabric for his cape and everything), but we broke up before it came to fruition lol
>>10126853>Your significant other
>>10129653I really don't understand the "got clowned" part of your story. Also everything else doesn't add up. Why did you do? Why do people "clown" you? Do you act like some moron?
>>10126853cringe....why would anyone do this
Got my first couple costume coming up, he's generally a photographer and DESU my bag bitch because I'm constantly juggling props in a cumbersome cosplay I can barley move in but I pitched something casual, comfy and easy to wear and he's on really on board and I'm excited to actually have the freedom to just enjoy the con a little more instead of having it all hinge around a costume.
I want to do couples with my bf but whenever we agree on a couple he gets insecure abut not looking like the character and just gives up, i'll be honest, he's 5'4-5'5 and really skinny, but has a very masculine face so he doesn't suit traps, he isn't exactly the ideal animu male or a super buff vidya guy, but neither am i or most people even, so i don't understand why despite being extremely excited at the thought of cosplaying together he lets his insecurities get the best of him. I hope together we can work through his insecurities and finally do all the cosplays we've been wanting to do.
>>10129653literally leave her asap she's toxic
>>10147038And the aftermath....Was actually alot of fun and would recommend getting cute cosplay gf if possible.
Our first cosplay as Futurama.I went as fryfro

how to acquire cosplay bf?
>>10184918Be a qt asian anime grill of course.

>>10184918be my type dawg lol
My bf enjoys cosplay but it's closet and meme tier (Think "hipster Robin"). He doesn't want to put too much effort in it and that's fine, he has fun. He wants me to cosplay more, but so we can fuck in the costumes. I told him I'd only do it with cheap stuff because no way in hell am I going to ruin an outfit I've worked months on and risk ripping, sheering, and getting stains on.
>>10180980>I'm saltier than the guy spending two posts to try to explain why LDRs never ever work from his peripheral experience Ok buddy.
>>10191149>Ew.stay mad fatty
>>10160564It's common for people nowadays to have no clue how relationships work and to always think that there must be something better waiting just around the corner. Same mentality with Lots of people thinking they can just fool around until their 30 and then find the perfect partner for life and kids. People are completely dispatched from reality.
>>10192797It's more that people have been fed lies from movies about "the one" and forget that every relationship has issues and fights.
>>10192801Yeah, that too. In addition people don't really seem to know how to resolve issues and fights or even know how to express their feelings. Like the guy whose fiance treats him like shit and he's too afraid to confront her in a constructive manner.
my bf and I cosplayed as parappa and lammy at the last con, it was super fun! I definitely want to do more couples cosplays, but he isn't really into cosplay and weeby shit as I am and we couldn't really do anything too complex because he would need to get the supplies and make his own since I don't want to make both cosplays...
>>10151302Takeo and Rinko from Oremonogatari

>>10199020Doesn't matter. I'm not wrong and you know it.
>>10165149>make all my cosplays and spend quite a lot of time on them so they look bretty good>get complimented all the time>some girl gave me a doodle of my character and her insta title since she liked my cosplay so much>never learned to flirt since I was always a nerd>also don't want to look like a creep or get metooed given how many conpeople are batshit crazy>even when girls flirt I act aloof since I think they're jokingI HURT MYSELF TODAY
>>10199174Never learn to flirt or talk to girls. It only makes you realize all the times you missed out. Real talk, just asking girls if they wanna grab a drink at the bar at the con is a quick, none creepy way, to asses it. Don’t ask them to join you at your hotel room; incel started did that to my female friend and she gave me the biggest “get me the fuck out of her” eyes ever.

>>10198928>$45,000That's so poor tho. More like $80,000.
>>10198928All of these but I am poor and watch anime
I have a dream that someday if I have a short girlfriend, she would do a liliruka cosplay and I would find something to match, because the giant oversized backpack is so freaking cute.
>>10198928I'm all of those except I like anime. More so in the past than now. Just leaving AX today. I've met most of my gf's at cons.
>>10126853Dang, I just looked through my files to see all the couple cosplays we've done, and there's a good number of them. When we met, he owned a cosplay, but wasn't really much of a cosplayer. He was interested in it though, so I would show him how I made stuff, eventually leading him into wanting to make his own. Despite what it looks like, a lot of our cosplays are actually individual characters, though the years, the more time we spent with each other, the more that our show watching, and game playing time overlapped. Because we’re so invested in the same shows, It makes it much more likely that we can pick characters from the same series, easily opting for couple options. With that said, now Cosplay is a much more major part of our interest, and we’ve actually focused a lot on our diets and started exercising leading up to AX to feel better in our cosplays and cosplay photos. We even hit a unique milestone, where my BF was in cosplay, and I was the bag-holding cosplay support. (refer to black asta photo)But yeah, overall I feel that cosplaying with your SO can be worlds of fun. If someone is cosplaying with me, as opposed to just hanging out and having to hold my gear, it makes me feel less guilty when we get asked for photos in the hallway. Having a good friend there with you during the con day is a huge blessing. No one will better understand you when you want to sit down cause your shoes are hurting you, or when you need to step out and fix your wig. In addition to that, Its helped keep us focused on personal goals for ourselves. We watch more stuff together when we used to just watch stuff on our own. So I say, if you have the opportunity, try it. You just have to remember not to take yourselves too seriously. I’ve seen enough of our friends stress out over con crunch, throwing blame, getting jealous, and trying to one up each other. Cosplay is about fun, and being proud of what you accomplished.
>>10215900yaaas amwf couple. you guys are super qt
>>10129826I've had to part ways with people kinda like this from what you've said. In my case, these types of people usually value followers, attention & fake-fame over their own friends or significant others! It's pretty immature behavior, and they can never admit they're just embarrassed of whoever they're shafting/leaving in the dust. I think you should ask her what she values most, sort out each others priorities. She could not be aware of her selfish behavior. At the end of the day, it's only dress-up. People are more important.
