A question, if you will, ol' chap.

Remember to only buy broad market index funds. 99% of professional investors fail to beat the market, what makes you think you can? Simply buy the entire market and live your life. Stop stock picking. Stock picking is literally gambling, and you don’t want to gamble. Buy the passive index fund.

>>
>>24138140

this has historically been the best move but I don't think it will be the best move going forwards.
Looking at what I get if I buy a broad market index fund the top picks are
>Apple
too expensive
>MSFT
too expensive
>AMZN
possibly too expensive, we'll see
>P&G
decent
>VISA
too expensive
>NVDA
too expensive

and so on.

central banks have caused PE-inflation from hell, I seriously doubt Apple will deliver 8% yearly return from here, it needs a correction badly.

This. Look at SPY, way to weighted on Apple. If the top holdings get taken down a notch by reality those etfs are gonna sink and stay down long term after all a heavy concentration on the best performers will also dump it hard when they fall and all the other holdings were low to begin with. Id rather take my chances with individual picks that have better odds of making me rich as Im more researched on them. Plus i want to retire young not old which i can just let the government handle rather than spend my time investing.

SPY at the bottom this year and using Friday's closing price has yielded approximately a 1.62x return

So many individual picks have yielded much more. Personal picks that have yielded a 3x, wish i went all in on these picks. Or meme stocks that have yielded 5x or greater. Nonetheless most of my picks have yielded better returns than SPY.

This corresponds to a 0.28% crude mortality rate to date, or 279 deaths per 100,000 population, or 1 death every 358 people. You're not healthy after getting coronavirus. 70% of "asymptomatics" have damaged organs.
You guys are so naive. That's the point of a virological attack, you make it seem not dangerous at all and it rapes your target in 5 years.

Truth. Most chinease shit, even stocks, is entirely made up. Literally this is no secret. Don't touch chinease shit. Its like fucking an expensive street whore. You might like it. You might get aids.
>>
>>24140256
I am saying that you shouldn´t be scared about long term effects. This shit is the least problem you will have. Yes it might take you a long time to recover, but you probably will. Also the chance that you will have serious long term effects is very low.
>>
>>24140291
I bought some calls for January that are finally in the positive after this last week, will probably sell sometime in the next few weeks
>>
>>24140302
It depends on the individual. What do you count as long term effects? Some people are tired all the time, others don´t even see it as a problem etc. etc.

Some people invent/imagine long term effects. "Hey I got Covid, yeah if I think about it I am getting out of breath very easily." (Didn´t do sports for months or had proper movement)

People make it worse than it is.

Honestly if I got it I would probably end up falling in that category because I was a lazy ass for most of my life and barely ever went outside. Now a days I try to at least walk for an hour or so everyday but if I actually got covid I would probably start getting paranoid about every little shortness of breath while doing something, thinking that it's the 'rona when in reality it's just that I'm an out of shape piece of shit

>whats happening with oil? any anons going for long positions on oil?

oil is bearish long term imo but some of the big oil companies such as BP are going into renewable energy, which is bullish. so i'm accumulating BP because the resources of huge oil company behind a renewable push is an investable prospect. XOM is staying with oil and will probably keep climbing in the short/medium term but the world is changing quickly and therefore i won't invest anything in XOM

Coming back to the index fund discussion. I have a Total world index fund where most of my money is in at the moment. Should I sell and start trading myself again? My returns were better but I stopped because I was putting too much energy in it I guess. Or do I make a combination of both ?

it's a tough call to time it. you don't know when the next news about increased oil supply, or another breakthrough in green tech will happen. at the same time, if you think there will be another war soon (many seem to think we're due a war), that will lift oil and if it's middle-eastern then it will constrain supply and lift oil further

I expect oil stocks to rally once the vaccine starts being rolled out and plan on dumping early next year.

Tesla is a poorly built toaster that will burn you.. Problem is that the American agencies don´t give a shit about safety. It is the same shit that happened with Boeing. They released the Tesla self driving and this shit will steer your car into a wall or the other side of the road. Even the chinks forced Tesla to return over 100.000 cars because of security reasons..

I'm not going to try to teach you anything, but i will give you something to think about -
Go to your favorite charting site or broker and load up a monthly chart of SPY or SPX or AAPL or whatever big stock or index you like. Make sure to load up the volume along with it. Squeeze the chart as much as you can and tell me - what pattern is easily recognizable upon looking at the volume through the years?
Now, try to think, where are we going forward from here?
Another point to think about - if everybody knows that investing in safe blue chip stocks and the big indexes is "better" than trying to beat the market, what will happen going forward?
Hint - when a crew is on a boat and everybody yells "all to the right side", what happens to the boat?

considering you're in /smg/, i bet you're babysitting your profile anyways so there's no reason to be diversified that much

Are you trolling? Knock-outs don’t have an infinite life. Their expiration is just tied to the underlying asset’s price instead of time.
>>
>>24142473
that's fair

i've seen dumbasses here diversify into that many picks when they only had 4 figures

Tesla is losing all its market share in Europe and China, while NIO is growing fast and already has 30% of Tesla market share in China, plus it's expanding to Europe next year, where competition is struggling hard.
NIO will absolutely rape Tesla and the competitors, and whoever doesn't realise it, hasn't done any DD about NIO.

This battery as a service that NIO does....it will catapult them to #1 EV maker.

NO ONE WANTS TO WAIT 30 FUCKING MINUTES FOR A CHARGE.

Swap batteries for NIO vehicles can be done in less than 90 seconds...Brilliant

depends on what those picks are, i have a buddy who is low 6 figures and he stopped falling for the diversifying meme and just shuffled his entire portfolio into only AMD and TSM from January this year. I think he had around 25K into TSM right now and at least 100K into AMD

I'm still 5 figures so I only focus on 1-2 positions too, though maybe it doesn't count when that 2nd pick is sometimes just QQQ (when i lack confidence on anything else outperforming it)

>>24142346
Willing to put another £2000 I to it which will be roughly 20% looking at possible good growth stock like BGS and WPC for the divis too. Waiting on ABNB
>>
>>24142613
i dunno man, i'm poorer than you, don't take advice from me lel
My buddy that I leech DD from has around the same portfolio size as you and is 100% into semiconductors though, just don't buy INTC. NVDA is questionable too with how highly valued it already is (like 25x of revenues compared to ~10x on TSM and AMD)

>>24141544
You're talking as if the stock market moves with rationality.

Intel is still a strong company. But the market looks forward. AMD looks more promising.

Intel is the new IBM with nowhere to go. They need radical changes. 180 degrees the other way.

kek when we were talking about EVs my father made fun of Tesla saying they were retarded for not simply swapping batteries instead of charging them for an hour. He arrived there independently which means Nio understand what the common customer wants

I work the common man job. Quintessential normie. I'll never buy a Tesla. I'm not going to "supercharge" my vehicle for 30 minutes on long trips. Ain't nobody got time for that.

Your father made sense. Smart one.

Is it a good time to buy NVDA and HD? Help frens i want to yolo in them before xmas rally.
>>
>>24142599
Exactly. Waiting 30 minutes for a charge is fucking annoying, and that's if you're lucky and there aren't 10 cars more waiting for a charge.

Tesla tried the battery swap years ago and failed to implement it.

Also, you can't even compare NIO service to the others. NIO Houses etc...

NIO is the only brand that truly innovates, and their quality is insane. More than 40% of their sales are from referrals, because people see their friends NIO and instantly want one.

If you're on margin diversifying with usually poorly correlated instruments can help you lower your downside by having price variations cancel each other according to the square root of the sums of each instrument's weighted variations, which can help you avoid margin calls when using high (>3x) leveraging.

well the cucknada pension fund has BABA as its highest holding so im sure it's safe at least
>>
Tesla will implode in less than 5 years. Elon Musk is an incompetent CEO who thinks that building more factories = more sales with exponential growth. Truth is the Chinese factory is also doing European Teslas because they are wasting resources on China due to low demand.
>>
>>24142783
it's never bad, but you have to consider who you're talking to here. half of /smg/ is disabled neets with extremely limited income, so if they want any chance of making it, they have to take on a lot of risk

like what the fuck, only +15% after 2 years?

I'm actually back in school since Sept 2018 (so my performance stagnated there when I liquidated most of my TFSA into cash just to be safe), if i wasn't a pussy back then I would have enough to pay off overpriced pharmacy school before I graduated
