it's a pretty bad price, but at the same time, the stuff will last you a long time. if you can afford it without stressing over it at all I would say just buy it. it dries softer than super glue, and it will pay for itself pretty quickly, even at $20.

the issue with freestyle is that it has no endgame
so the endgame in flatground and vert is for the casual "as youre riding" tricks, when youre rolling up a sidewalk you could just get off the board, pick it up, and set it down on the sidewalk but insteas you learn a basic flatground trick to stay on the board
when you see a rail you could get off your board OR you could use some of the movement you've learned doing vert at the park to get down it

there is never a situation where "now im gonna pogo my board" is useful
apply that to nearly all freestyle tricks and youve got a corny dance club on skateboards
>>
>>12924048
freestyle is literally the basis of all street skating lmao
>>
>>12924095
that does not matter
to be a good skater you dont need to first master caspers, primo tricks, and handstands
hell you dont need to do any of those at all because freestyle isnt fundamental
>>
>>12924048
You don't actually skate, you just think about it alot and headcannon shit, don't you? Lmao, yeah, these steps would be a nuisance but I have the skill to just ollie them or frontside this rail, how convenient! Holy kek, nobody has ever just done this while cruising, or did it blind, it's a long, arduous journey just to learn it, then try it at every different spot and eat shit thousands of times in the process. Picking up your board and walking down the stairs is a much more convenient and carefree thing to do

It's just another type of skateboarding man. Neither vert nor flatground are "useful" per se. Instead of talking out of your ass get on that board of buy a bike if you want "useful" because riding up and down on a wooden bowl and biting concrete a lot of times is not really useful neither.

in a recent video, Ben Degros says he finds that 99 wheels actually slide better than 101s, but I don't think there was any evidence or ideas given about why that would be the case. has anyone else found that to be true, and why would it be true? not sure I believe him
>>
>>12925185

I’ve never met anyone who does it who isn’t queer irl
>>
>>12925209

I’ve found that when a 99 gets going it slides more predictably and smoother whereas the 101 is like on/off. This keeps going down the further the durometer scale you go, to other softer wheels being harder to initiate/needs more speed but when you are are actually sliding they are very responsive and confident. Similar reason to why those downhill guys slide on like 77a wheels and not 100a

it's kind of cool because it comes from an era where people were still figuring out what skateboarding was supposed to be and nothing was offlimits yet. also there's a reason why blender/gonz/rodney etc invented most of the tricks that *did* end up sticking around as opposed to a lot of the hyper tech shit that happened in the 90s and then went straight into the dumpster until the end of time.

IMO you should force yourself to skate switch with every new skill if applicable, and sooner rather than later, because if you think about it otherwise you'd be greatly limiting your versatility and making it more difficult to gain it over the long term. It also helps with evening out muscle growth and wear and tear for shoes, wheels, etc. I also think it helps to use a double kicktail board when starting out to avoid any nose/tail logistics fussing which as far as I know only really matters for the more advanced stuff. That also helps with evening out wear and tear. FYI I'm a beginner/novice.

>>
>>12927628
>>12927761
There really are no rules to skating switch but best practice would be to have the basics down in a stance that you're comfortable with:
>ollie
>Pop shove it
>at least one type of 180
>Kick flip
> 50/50
Even then i wouldn't say rush into doing switch. Its fine to dabble in it and work on switch tricks here and there if you're comfortable with it, but doing some kind of checklist where you do one trick your normal stance then one switch will most likely make it even longer for you to get your tricks down

Rollerskates welcome? I want to get into it but I don't know what to look for in a pair. Ideally I want to just move around, have them as a bike alternative basically.
I'm also a big dude, 195cm 110kg (like 6'5" 240 or something) if it matters for the skate selection.

When i was younger switch was rare among locals even if they were super good. Its more common now and kind of a necessity or so it seems like.
I can only do 3 tricks switch - but i'm 36 so I'm content where i am. Learn them if you feel you need to but i would say don't feel pressured like you HAVE to do switch tricks.
>>12927824
is right though you def need to get comfortable with riding switch at a minimum
>>
>>12927788
>they're probably better off just using a normal popsicle and getting used to what a nose feels like
Yeah I considered that and do agree but I should have specified that when you're just trying to get the very basics down like balancing and steering the thought of what's nose or tail and the act of checking and reorientating the board might get old fast.
>>12927858
Yeah there's that argument as well. Since people naturally have varying degrees of ambidexterity and adaptability what you're saying applies more to some others.

Hot communist died hair activist crust punk goth etc type chicks come to the local backyard sessions here on quads and nobody bats an eye. It's pretty sick, imo. I like watching them. Sometimes they do Hoho to fakes which is pretty cool. My buddy actually just married one, and another friend started dating one he met at a session. Idk why it's a girl thing but it is def more feminine than skating. If someone Showed up on literal fruit boots they would be told to leave and heckled during their barefoot walk to the car. Something about a grown man strapped into skates is just too funny, the intro to the house vid where that guy on roller blades kicks the shit outta that drunk skater is seriously hilarious
>>
>>12929246
You just said a lot of things that I didn't understand, like hoho to fakes and caring about hecklers. I don't take myself that seriously. I'm also going to need that video.
However, quads are somehow more feminine, I don't know why. I don't dislike the aesthetic, just not something I'd wear.

>>
>>12927858
This is probably the most logical way to do it. you'e gonna suck ass forever if you try to do a trick switch once you learn it regular.
But also there are people that can only do certain tricks switch. but even then you have to get decent in what you're comfortable with before you start doing tricks differently. Maybe even start with nollies after you have basics and confidence down. I know we all want to be the next "skate goat" (lol) but don't feel forced to do switch stuff right away.
I can match most of my flatground tricks switch and some grinds and tricks off things. but i didn't even start trying til like 2 years in.

>>12930641
>if you try to do a trick switch once you learn it regular.
that's how i learned every trick. you learn it all four ways at once. doing tricks switch is the easy part. learning to go fast and be comfortable pushing and stabilizing w/ your non dominant foot and probably undertrained muscles is what's hard. if nothing else, learn how to drop in switch, it'll help you a lot later on and make the whole prospect of going _ to fakie much less intimidating

Dunno how much this would apply to advanced skateboarding but just speaking from my personal experience training myself to be ambidextrous in general life tasks the learning curve mellows out as my general coordination improves so advancing might not be as difficult or time-consuming as some might expect.

What wheels would be the same width and shape as Bones Rough Riders, but in a normal durometer like 95-99a? They’re 56mm diameter and 40mm width.

Spitfire has measurements for all their wheels. I think you might have trouble finding something that wide in a hard wheel from any brand. But Conical Fulls are the closest from Spitfire. 36 mm wide.

What I've tried recently that feel really nice are the independent aftermarket bushings in independents, and supercush in ventures, if you need a replacement for whatever reason. i actually like the stock thunder bushings but you really have to work those in. Krux and Ace sell very nice bushings too but you have to make sure they actually fit in your truck.

Yes, and if that bothers anyone here, then good.

Can someone post a video that was posted here before and it had the Vengaboys song Boom Boom Boom as the music?
>>
who here /top skater/?
>>
>>12937189
Well I posted it that time for the first time. It's been in the OP before too

Wondering why a bunch of adult skateboarders are losers is insane. No shit they're losers. If they were worth a shit they would be doing normal shit like jogging or weightlifting or something productive. Instead we get our rush smashing up other people's shit w our trucks and bothering traffic and pedestrians. Its honestly lame from a wider perspective, but you don't pick your brain so here I am
>>
>>12937757

yeah ok anon.
Truth is CKY and Big Brother were able to pull this stuff off in their videos and make it work. Baker 3 did a good job too.
The antics in this video aren't really the big problem for me- its just fucking boring dude
>>
>>12937790
You don't skate street? We means anyone that has fucked up the paint on a curb or anyone that's chunked up a ledge. It's true, smashing other people's shit for fun is literally a loser activity
>>
>>12927518
Me too anon, only been able to skate once since getting a decent setup and been fucked be the weather since. Reminded me of being a kid and getting scraped up, good shit!

I i want my board to be extra grippy how many sheets of griptapes do i need to put on it?

dont feel forced to put on so many sheets right away for becoming professional and that will turn your shoes into powder in no time
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXEnM5uLkM0
>>
one time I saw a kid walking down the sidewalk with a fresh complete with no grip on it. I stopped him and told him his deck would skate a lot better with griptape on it and he said he knows hes constantly sliding around and cant stay on it but he just needs to get some wood glue to put it on and I was so dumbfounded I couldnt even tell him to go to the skateshop around the corner and get some grip, I just told him to have a good day.
>>
>>12941586
what a STUPID story
>>
>>12941637
yeah the kid was like 16 too.

another time i met this dumb young girl who showed up to the spot and started rubbing her griptape down with sandpaper and I asked her why and she said its cause its too grippy she cant move her feet so someone told her to do that but she rubbed any and all grip off the board completely it was completely smooth, I told her not to do that any more. then she was tryna practice ollies and went in the grass because someone else told her to do that to practice but it was late at night and there was already dew on the ground and she was just getting her shoes and board all wet and sliding off just standing on her board so I told her thats not gonna help her and then she just went in the crustiest spot of the parking lot possible and tried to ollie and fell down.
>>
>>12941707
did you show her your dick at least?
>>
>>12941713
nah I already felt bad I was drinking beer when she showed up and within 15 minutes she told me she was 16 and in an alternative school for troubled kids with issues and her parents are mad strict and shes not allowed to have a phone. she kept asking me every 5 minutes what the time was because she didnt have a phone but needed to get home at a very specific time or else her parents would beat her. I was like man what the fuck Im just tryna skate.

I also like the stability of tight trucks, but:
1. you won't be able to carve bowls/curved transition at all.
2. it's harder to roll away
3. it looks like shit having to ticktack more often.

I imagine it's also harder to find that pinch on k-grinds and whatnot. maybe even impossible with super tight trucks, idk honestly.
>>
>>12951224
I'm fine with what i have for now. I did order some Grind Kings but those aren't shipping to me til probably the end of the month- but from what i heard the turning is a only a little better than Krux so we'll see.
