I work long hours and live in a tiny apartment. Owning a pet is not feasible in my situation. But I feel so very lonely when I get home.What are some pets that require the most minimal of maintenance, and that can live in such a small space?Also, I work a job where I could die or get incapacitated any day, so the pet should be something that would not be too heartbreaking if it died.
Maybe you should try going outside and talking to people instead of keeping a pet isolated in your tiny sad apartment for 10 hours a day
Goldfish. Carp are indestructible if you have a nice setup and they can easily survive a wide range of temperatures.

Get a big lizard. They don't eat much, and are cool to look at. Start up cost is a terrarium, heat lamp and some hidey holes. After that you just feed it crickets. They also live way longer than dogs. Iguana, chameleon, monitor lizard, bearded dragon. They all live for way longer than you think and are bad ass. Even a salamander sanctuary is cool.
